    Hi!! Jim from Madrid, Spain (a New Yorker expat living abroad).
    Thank you for this truly honest and sincere review!!! (For real).
    I completely agree with you! This bike us for what it is... of course you can travel anywhere with anything, specially when you have nothing else to do it with because you don't have the resources to do anything else (for example- I know because I'm also an artist - people in the "1st World" spend hundreds and even thousands on painting materials, but poorer people create spectacular art with a blue ballpoint pen on a regular sheet if white paper).
    In my case... I want to thank you because I've been a biker since I got up on a moped when I was 13 years old, and I've never stopped until a few years ago due to several surgeries on my spine and right leg (having to carry implants and very inconvenient ones for the rest if my life), liv8ng me grounded for the past few years where I sold my bikes.
    BUT... I need something to help me move around and be able to do some (easy) trails with where I live (no highways, mainly smaller roads and lots if trails to even go with my dog)... And this bike us perfect for that. I can do some quick grocery shopping, do some other quick errands, move around town and to other towns around mine, go trail biking, etc... Perfect for my needs at the moment!
    And you honesty and forwardness has helped me make a decision (I strongly dislike modern smaller scooters)... Nice look, larger wheels (unlike scooters with small wheels) good for In and Off roads, not too heavy, enough power (if it had 15 horsepower would've been ideal, but I can deal with around 9 for what I need), easy motor and maintenance, etc...
    So... thank you very much to even spend the time on reviewing the owner's manual!!!! Incredible!

    I really like the practical ending of "who is this for". People always complain that some bikes don't do X Y or Z, but as you clearly laid out this bike has it's purpose

    i agree the owners manual was very nice and i also really appreciated the riders manual which was also included. as far as the tire upgrade i am interested BUT since i live in FL its almost pointless for me... it would be awesome though ( and needed ) IF i was going to be doing a lot of off roading. i would also remind anyone this bike can also be bump started. ( thats 3 ways to bring this beast back to life ! ) thanks for the videos :)

    Great segment and useful content. Thankyou. Love the retro looking green color instead of the red. Your mods for the most part make good and practical sense. Maybe it's because of my age, but I don't get the do nothing without your phone mentality. Everything, for some reason, needs a phone mount. There was a time when you prepared for where you were going prior to leaving and just looked up and around enjoying the scenery instead of finding all ways possible to be so attentive to phones. Even people walking their dogs or pushing a stroller are glued to and fixated on their phones while walking. Soon there will be a phone mount for coffee cups so we don't miss anything while having a cup of joe. Can't wait to download the new silverware app so I can eat with my phone too. Not in any way lost in my rant is this wonderful jewel of a bike you have. Definitely intrigued by the CT 125. Safe and happy travels for you. Seems like the perfect bike for doing so.

      I agree with you, as I am old school as well. However, I will say this as far as the phone and my application goes. I am not that great with directions and sense of direction. So, I will go exploring with this bike and literally get lost. I use the phone to GPS my way back home. 😂. It also eases my wife’s mind because she can track my phone when I go exploring (here in the mountains), so if something goes wrong, she can come find me.

    My application is exploring national forest where there are no trails.
    This is where ultra light backpacking gear plays a big part. So a few bushcraft tools, hammock set up and easy healthy meals are needed. Water is needed so filtration is a must.
    As for short pavement runs, yes ride it with the same considerations as a bicycle. As an example when you drop over a hill and an oncoming vehicle is approaching, hug the shoulder and be prepared to even ride in the grass to the right of that if need be.
    Safety is first. The Denali B6 rear mounted Red LED light bar can be seen for more than a mile in full sunshine.
    You can crush your jawbone even at low speeds on trails much less pavement so a full face helmet is a must for protection. Lower cost modular helmets such as the Scorpion 900 will work fine in this application. They come with a fighter pilot style internal flip down visor for those sunny days.
    The ct125,is a neat toy but it can hurt you. Be prepared not thoughtless.

    @23:05 I advise rev matching when down shifting. So just give a bit of throttle (just blip) and your rear wheel will be less of a jolt.

    I would definitely recommend a crash bar for the rear portion of the exhaust as well.

    I cut my heel shifter off the first week I had the bike (about a month ago). I ride another manual clutch bike and I really didn't like the idea of learning (if possible) two different foot positions. Plus I immediately felt like I would constantly be hitting the heel shifter when I didn't want to. So I agree that if you like it, keep it. But for those who don't, feel free to cut it off - I have found replacement OEM Honda shift bars on line for less than $40 so if you want to try it cut off and then decide you want it back, it won't break the bank to replace it. Also, FYI, I removed the kick starter too for the same reason. I keep it loose in my rear box, so could slip it back on quickly in the field if I ever need it, but when riding now it doesn't annoy my right foot either.
    I like the small seat and clamp-on foot pegs you added. I might add those too for the occasional times when my wife might join me for a short ride.
    And finally, loving my Trail 70. Loved the Grom I had before this as my small bike, but the Trail is a little more versatile for my uses. I'd encourage others interested in one of these to give them a test ride - if you can ever find one at a dealer!

      Thanks for the comments. It all comes down to making the bike the best for you. That said, instead of cutting the part, I’d probably just buy an aftermarket pedal that doesn’t have the heel (just not a fan of cutting original stuff - maybe old school thinking of vintage and resale).     All right so as far as that heal shipper is concerned if your feet are too big or your shoes are too big or whatever and you have trouble resting your foot on the foot peg and you’re hitting the shifter. You can loosen the shifter and turn it counterclockwise a little bit and will change the angle of the hill to shifter, so then you can just put your foot on and you won’t hit the toe shifter one way or another but you can still of course push down on the front of it and push down on the back of it and still use it so that’s what I did on mine no need to cut the back of the hill to shifter offit’s a very simple and easy modification. All you have to do is take one off. Turn the shifter and put the bolt back in.

    That top case looks so much like my Givi Trekker 42 😊
    I think those top cases are the best, so useful, strong and waterproof.
    The only reason why I would want the handlebar rack is to put a small bag to put extra gloves, microfiber rags and tiny stuff. Like you said, don't add too much weight to the handlebar.

      The only things i wish were different on the top case is 1) that it was slightly insulated, and 2) that the pockets on the inside of the lid could be deeper and actually zipper/velcro closed - as is, the pouches are somewhat useless.

    Thanks for sharing. I love your attitude about what this bike is all about. Sharing the road? Not really. I grew up in the 70s. Get the hell out of the way if you're on a road where everyone else is going faster than you possibly can. If everyone including bicyclists would understand this then everyone on the road could get along so much better. I have been wanting to buy a smaller bike similar to this for so long but have resisted so far because I don't want to be "that guy" who is holding up traffic until I can get out of the way. I hope other people considering getting one of these bikes will watch your video and understand that what you are saying makes all kinds of sense. Just DON'T BUY THE BIKE if you are in a position where you're going to wind up dead because you're riding it in places it was never meant to be ridden. Like roads with a posted speed limit over 45 mph or so.

      @@tablerockteacompany Thank you. I re-read my reply from yesterday and it sounds kind of harsh to me now. I didn't mean for it to. I drive a Kei truck almost daily here in NC. 660cc engine. It will do 70 mph but it takes it a half day to get there. I try to stick to roads with 55 mph or less speed limit and manage to do that 99% of the time. Just trying to say I can relate to the slower speed vehicles. I'm a fan of them, but I think more people would be if everyone who currently owns one would realize where those vehicles work safely and stay to the lower speed roads. Stay safe. 👍🍻

    I think the stabilizer and phone holder block the view of the speed gauge. Is that the case? Can you tell me if the exhaust will be very hot to the touch that it can burn? I ask this because when I was a young, I burn myself from a bike similar to this when my leg touch the exhaust.

    I like your side bar width gauge mod. I’ve scene a lot of people try to ride around something only for their saddlebag get snagged on it, or come very close without them knowing. It’s like a dodge dually I used to drive, very awkward with the back tires were way wider than the front.

    Yep, I really wish the regular cup version had a kickstart. The older ones did, but I found out that you can totally pop started by rolling it downhill and you can also pop start the trail version as well. With the trail version you put the key in the on position and with the cub, you have to turn the switch to the on position. Make sure it’s in neutral start rolling down the hill and then when you’re rolling go from neutral the first and then it will pop start.

      @@tablerockteacompany the trail has a lot of advantages over the cub for me the deciding factor was the gear indicator and the cup was $1000 less with the same motor the trail is more tough. There’s no plastic. It’s much less likely to be damaged. If you drop it it’s got disc in the back. It’s got the snorkel, which is cool. It’s the trail had a proper gear indicator. I would’ve gotten that one.

    Good video What size is your top box. I have a GIVI Trekker 64 liter on mine have it set back the same as you have yours. In stead of the seat in front of it, I am putting a 50cal plastic ammo box, about 14" wide 8" deep and 10 " high, in it will be keeping a 2.5 liter gas can and some tools, battery air compressor that I can recharge from the power outlet on the bike but it should pump up bough tires no problem have pumped two trailer tires and still had power left, great handy thing to carry, and takes up very little room. Trying to get a Honda saddlebag rack and saddlebag ( large ) But having a hard time finding them here in Canada. As for speed I stay on the 80 Km and less roads witch is most of them hear on the island. Flat ground and small hills no problem staying around 80 km ( 50 mph ) But if no traffic I like around 70- 75 km. ( 43 - 46 mph.) on long slow hills and short steep hills can stay above 75 in most cases what seem to affect me the most is the high winds we get hear. But still able to stay above 70 Km going it to it even with a slight up hill. I also have a Honda CB500X but now I have the trail it is my go to bike for short runs mostly 30 to 100 Km. One thing I did add was a front rack the Honda one and put a set of small but very bright LED lights on it. It is only good for very light stuff think 3 lbs. or 3 Kg not sure witch. But the mane thing is for the lights. Thanks for the great video, ( the lights are so people see me coming and sense I have been using them on my bikes very seldom get cut of as before on the Dr650 was cut of a lot )

    Great review thanks. I would do the same mods as you have done for the exact same reasons. I am seriously considering getting one. I'm a little perplex as to the 35mph average. My son had a 50cc that would do that and can only imagine that a 125cc would do a lot better with more torque.

    Nice review and upgrades. One thing you might consider is the color of your fuel storage can. Might not make much of a difference to you. Standard colors for Gasoline cans is Red, Yellow for Diesel, Blue for Kerosene and Green for Oil. Depending on where you live there might be laws for storing flammable liquids in approved color containers.

    Really great review. I hadn’t previously considered anything like this but I’ve been looking into getting a small displacement second bike. Not that my first bike is overly big, but I’d like something to use around town. It’s nice that it has a normal seat height. I’m on the tall side and don’t like sitting below 30”. Thanks for sharing.

    I thought you were worried about steering and balance. With everything hanging on the back the front end seems to be affected as well.

      Different weight distribution has different effects. I can handle a bit in the back (which isn’t really there much compared to my body weight toward the front). Weight placed on the bars, however, does throw me off - especially if it’s something like a water bottle that sloshes (which is most likely what I’d be tempted to out there). But, if you like it, go for it!

    My daughter (30 yrs old, 145 lbs) is looking at getting one to carry on a hitch carrier on her Excursion camper conversion. I've ordered a 15 tooth front sprocket to help with the highway speed. I'm thinking should make cruising at 50 possible for her.

      It’s possible, but even so, I think she’ll still find 35mph to be the sweet spot. It’s a great little bike, but it’s a great ‘little’ bike :).

    Have you considered changing sprockets size to lift a little high end speed... My Super Cub is very revved at 40 mph. SI i am changing to 15T 33 rear giving me a 7 mph plus

      With the Trail, most people consider changing to a 13 for better low end. For my use (hybrid), I think the factory gearing is probably best.

    I have a tip for your phone holder. I hope it helps you out so if I were you and I don’t know if it’s a thing on your phone holder or not, but what would be good would be a vibration damper so if you don’t have a vibration damper for your phone holder. The vibration can wreck the camera on your phone, so if you don’t have that if you had it, it would be a good thing

    I’ve grown to be an old man, riding Harley Davidson‘s, love this motorbike however, I do believe novelty competes against practicality. I was trying to convince myself it would be worth spending 5K to go to the local pub and the grocer. Don’t know if it is thanks for the demonstration, my friend.

      Glad the review is helpful- it’s a lot of $ to drop if you don’t know what you’re really getting. Anywhere other than the US, no-brainer, great bike. But here, there are some big factors to consider.

      Lol hello James. I was thinking the same thing. I own several HD including a Roadglide and always wanted a small grocery and chore getter. Well bought one of these and loved it so much I bought a 2nd one. Honestly what hoot and so much fun to get out and explore the old stomping grounds. Get one you won't be disappointed. Just need to get the bars right. I went with a 2" riser and quite happy so far. Cheers James J

    I'm really on the fence with getting one of these. I would just use it to scoot around town at around 40mph, and hit up some farm and wood trails around me. I'm afraid to ride though...8 years ago I lost my childhood friend in a crotch rocket accident and I haven't touched a bike since. I've been contemplating it everyday for over a month now, and I've never been so back and forth on anything in my life.
    I do think I'd be fine once I got comfortable riding again. I also tell myself how I road cycle, and going downhill in traffic I get up to 40mph+ which is probably more dangerous on those skinny tires and no real protective gear..but I don't know just the motor and the throttle are terrifying me for some reason, even though my buddy and I used to jump his dirt bikes when we were kids without hesitation.

      I will say it's as easy to use as an e-bike. I'm not an experienced motorcyclist, but I felt comfortable on this after just a few miles. Literally like a scooter with the automatic transmission. Just take it slow until you're comfortable - you'll see that the sweet spot is around 35mph.

      @@alaingoyette7103 - fastest I’ve been able to go is 54mph at full throttle down a slight hill. 35-45mph is the zone for this bike.

      I have the same cycling background and similar thoughts. Take one for a test ride in a parking lot - that should let you know right away of it’s a good fit for you.

    So I could be wrong, but I think if you did put a front rack and you put a little front box on your hunter cub it shouldn’t mess up the weight distribution because you have a box on the back of it. In fact, I think you might have the same box that I have on my regular cub so what I found out is that it actually helped with the weight distribution because now I have some stuff in the front instead of everything in the back having said that, though my box is lower, it is underneath the headlight and when I’m just moving the bike around and it’s not running steering, it is a little bit heavier and I was worried about it being more difficult to steer when I’m riding it but it turns out in my case the opposite is actually true and it’s actually easier steer and lean over and it’s more flexible but if you put your box above the headlight, you may not get the same result, but I think it would still help with some of the weight distribution, but you certainly do not need to put a front rack or a front box on it it will ride just fine with a back. I rode my back on there for a good long while, so if you put one on, you should be OK and if you don’t put one on, you will be OK

      I totally agree with the overall weight distribution, but what I'm not fond of is the balance on the steering (the 'localized' weight distribution so to speak) - again, probably because I didn't grow up riding, so it's not second-nature to me. I'm sure other more experienced riders have no issues with weight on front.

The seconf thing I wanna ask you is: do you know a Honda dealer who rents the Honda CT 125 to a german for about 8 or 12 weeks? I'm thinking of a great vacation in 2025 and I'm looking for a bike which is nit as heqavy as a harley and either not expensive to rent. Hope you can help me. Thanks and the best wishes from germany

    How would you compare the ride to a dirt bike? I like to ride all day on trails and back roads, and was concerned the suspension is not as soft as a dirt bike would be, and harder on your back? Thanks

      I would say you are correct. This is a dual purpose (on/off road), so if you’re just on dirt, there are better options like a Super Sherpa, TW200, etc. IMO this bike has a very specific niche for mostly 75/25 exploring country and gravel roads with some off roading.

      Good point! Thanks - I need to add a co2 capsule (race inflate). That said, the slime is actually compressed and does fill it.

    Did you have to modify the helmet lock attachment? I couldn’t get it to mount under the seat because of the extra piece that sticks out near the screws under the seat.

    The stock bike Does come with a helmet 'lock'.. Look in your tool box. There are Two item in it; the screwdriver and an Odd cable loop. Read the Owners manual. It is a loop that goes through the D-ring on your helmet and then goes into the the area under the seat, Close the seat and, yes, the helmet is now Locked to the bike. You need the key to unlock the seat and lift it up to release the cable loop/helmet.. These are cool bikes..

    I am sure that this has been pointed out or that you have already added to your carry kit. You should have a shraeder valve tool to remove/install the valve on the tube, and secondly a tire inflater. I bought a very good one that takes very little space on my 650 Suzuki Burgman.

      @@tablerockteacompany The center of the valve stem is removable which aids in completely delating a tube, plus the 'T' shaped tool screws on to the outside of the valve stem to aid in keeping the stem positioned when installing the tube and tire. A way to inflate the tube is required afterwards.

      I don’t recommend putting a bigger engine (or modifying to a bigger engine) because the rest of the bike isn’t made to handle it. They just need to come out with a dedicated 200+cc version.

    Having your top box set back so far, along with a gas can is likely to affect your front end a lot more than a small rack loaded with a few pounds up front. Are you sure that there isn't a helmet lock under the seat that secures your helmet by the 'D' rings when you close the seat? If not, then you can likely replace one of the bolts under the seat with a longer one and accomplish the same thing.

      Helmet lock was fairly inexpensive (and I liked that particular style/clean look). And yes, the box definitely changes weight distribution, but it doesn’t have the same effect on steering as a loaded front - just depends what you’re used to I guess.

    I would cut off the heel shifter for sure. No clue why Honda designed that since very few larger (or smaller) bikes have it. Why cut it off? I would cut it off to prevent accidental shifting.

      I actually use the heel shifter 90% of the time - not a fan of trapping my toes under the front to lift up, but that's just personal preference. But if I didn't want the heel shift, I'd replace the shifter rather than cut it - I'm a big fan of keeping OEM parts original.

      Here in Thailand, most people wear flip-flops and clicking up gears is more difficult than heel shifting. I thought it was bizarre when I first saw it but it’s pretty practical now.

    I go camping to escape cell phones, so I just have a rear soft bag for snacks and binoculars and carry the bike on a rear truck hitch. But I know I'm the minority out there reading a book while camping😊

    there is no good reason you cant cut off the rear portion of the shift lever. aside from that there are aftermarket levers that are not heel toe that would take 2 min to install.

      The slime actually pressurizes the tire. That said, I do carry a CO2 cartridge quick inflate with an extra cartridge

      ⁠​⁠@@tablerockteacompany2x16oz CO2s will barely get you up to 20psi. Slime is a sealant in situ to hopefully plug a sharpie puncture and does not pressurise the tube - that is done by an aerosol foam and is only to get you to a tyre shop ‘cos it cannot be removed so you will need a new tyre!

    I've ridden around about 1/3 of the WORLD for a total "time in saddle" of about 3 years, all over 23 countries, incl most of Central/South America & Southeast Asia on various bikes from 125 scooters up to a KLR 650. Smaller the better internationally! I'd consider taking one of these around the world, were I younger. I have an XT250 now on my RV bumper. I wonder if a CT125 would be a fun replacement? (I rode a
    XR125 Honda dirt bike for 18,000. miles and one slow YEAR around most of the Phuilippines major islands. Hubba, hubba! (That tiny seat would just about hold a Filipina chick!)

      Not really. The added functionality more than makes up for the (maybe) 1mph I might have lost. These bikes have a lot of low end, so you only notice weight above 45mph (which I never/rarely plan on going with this bike).

      Glad you liked the video (and you are correct on the rider assessment). If I were a serious off road guy, I’d (personally) go with a different bike - either an old Super Sherpa, F650gs, or TW200. The CT125 is perfect for my uses, though. Happy riding!

    the only real question i have is the USB you have on yours. is it still working. i have bought 4 different ones and none seem to work more than a month. if yours is still working. am so tired of changing mine every month or 2. i think the vibration is what's killing them. i put one in my truck and its still working after almost 2 years.

    The US motorcycle market is a minor part of the puzzle. Europe and Asia are more of a concern for manufacturers. They sell exponentially more units over there. This, they see many more models than we go here.

      I’ve done enough work on it to know that answer. Yes - I still like it (a lot). But, as I say throughout the video, you have to be very self-aware of what you truly want and of what this bike truly is. Otherwise, you’ll sell it within 1000 miles (and many do).

      I’d say roughly $500. The box was the most expensive. Problem with the other stuff was shipping from Thailand (it’s all made there). If you have a friend over there who can bring stuff back, it will be 1/2-1/3 the price as shipping is as much as the part.

    They need to make this bike do a stable minimum of 55 mph. Useless without that in most of the US. Like the bike though if they could just beef it up a little.
