  • Hello! In this video, I test and compare Platinum's old favourite, Carbon Black with their new kid on the block Chou Kuro which is reputed to be one of the blackest black inks on the market.
I also draw a fantasy map.
    Inks used in this video:
    Platinum Carbon Black
    Platinum Chou Kuro
I was sponsered a vial of Carbon Black and a sample bottle of Chou Kuro by WriteGear and Platinum through WriteGear. Thank you very much to both companies, this has enabled me to keep up to date with new reviews.
For viewers, please know that this does not change the honesty of my review.
You can order both these inks and a plethora of other beautiful stationary and materials online from WriteGear at www.writegear.co.za
they also have a physical shop in Woodstock (Cape Town)
The website that I mention with regards to translation in the map drawing section is: www.indifferentlanguages.com
I couldn't keep on without my amazing patrons over at Patreon. Thank you so much!

Thanks. I've used Carbon Black for years in fountain pens and been completely satisfied. Your experience with the Chou Kuro rules it out for me --- especially since it's absurdly priced!

Thank you for this long complete review. I was thinking of switching to the new ink for line work under watercolor. Clearly that would have been a mistake. You saved me from a lot of frustration.

3:50 How does Chou Kuro spread across distilled water? That is what they suggest is used for cleaning, instead of tap water.

I will need to try and see! I used to use distilled water but it made some of the inks behave in ways I didn’t like (they didn’t spread as well) so I now use spring water, but that is a very interesting question and I will experiment!
