Do you have a "motorcycle season" or are you a hardcore all weather rider? 😁
Yes, I have a "motorcycle season". Every time I'm on my bike doing a ride my motorcycle season starts (independently of temperature, weather or month) and when I step off and put it back to parking my motorcycle season ends 😛
I used to ride all year round for almost 10 years, as I didnt own a car. I only ride for fun now (and to make youtube videos as well) I have a KTM that I have treated like a baby and always clean ( too clean maybe ) So for 2025, the KTM is going and in its place I am getting a bike that I can ride all year and more locations too....
@@LifeofSmokey your videos are amazing to watch
Winter is my season, I do ride in the hotter months though.
Yes Smokey. We have a “Motorcycle season” here in western Canada. It has been -12 to -20 degrees C for the last month. The roads are solid ice. Admittedly one could ride in the cold, but the ice is another matter.
We usually put the bikes away in October when the roads become icy. Bikes appear again as soon as the roads bear off with warmer weather in say, March.
you buying a dct africa twin was the best thing that ever happened to this channel. dont let the plebs tell u otherwise. some people live in the past whereas you're looking towards the future. times are changing and so should we, and our bikes.
I crashed 3 times on a freezing night 400metres from my house, slid of on a right turn , slid off on a left turn 100metres later , got back on and slid off again on the next right.. i was 17 , made of rubber….
People who really enjoy riding are more adventurous than average. Riding in inclement weather to me feels like a mini adventure. I love riding in gentle rain
Coldest I've ridden/froze my nuts off was 36°f ...You're a Madman Sir Smokey
😂😂😂
When I lived and worked in the UK, I rode my bikes 365. All weather but snow. Loved it. Honda Varadero 1000. Getting into it again in the next 2 years when I am back in Europe. Canadian weather has too many nono months 🥶 + too many @#$^% on the road.
Another informative fun video
👍🙏
Some subscribers, not happy you buying a Honda ? As an engineer, I can tell you this : reliability it's an art. Honda, it's THE master at it. Having the fanciest bike in the shop floor all the time it's dumb . Honda has 30%+ of this hard market for a reason. Cheers !
Probably because this channel used to focus A LOT on KTM.
But man, you can't go wrong with the Africa Twin... such a great, reliable bike.
Yamaha is even more reliable. In EU and Asia, Yamaha had only 10% failure rate, Honda and Suzuki 14% (still amazingly low but more than Yamaha!) - for contrast; BMW, and Triumph both had 38% failure rate 😂😂 and Ducati and KTM were even worse with 44% and 46%😂😂😂😂
@nogerboher5266 Like I've written: Honda or Yamaha and you will be more than fine. You can't go wrong with these two top brands.
I rode up the local ski hill before Christmas. The road and parking lot were plowed but it was -5 degrees. Welcome to the west coast of Canada.
Anyone who says motorcycle season in Türkiye is called "tatsumo" by others. It means "Sweet Water Rider" ish.😅 Don't have an exact translation for it. Riding my bike all year long 💪
We say "Salonrijders" in Belgium wich translates to a nice comfy couch and a rider 😁
@@LifeofSmokey I will be looking closely for salonrijders on the road. Or should I say at home 🤣
I live in Pawleys Island South Carolina USA. We have mild weather in the winter. Once in awhile it gets down to 0°C but those days are few and far between. My golfing friends golf year round. Farther east they get snow towards Tennessee, and one state South gets ice storms at times, like near Atlanta Georgia. I hope you have an amazing New Year and stay healthy and adventurous
5 celcius is really not bad! I havent ridden a ton this winter in CO, but its honestly some of my favorite riding! I dont really go below 30F unless its REALLY dry with zero chance of snow and no recent snow either... but our lovely sun dries the roads so fast that i can usually get a handful of safe riding days in every month. If you have the right gear on you can ride to any temp... think about snowmobiling 😊
Switching between this channel and Itchy boots so crazy. So different lifestyle.
I'm to scared to do what she does 😂👌
@@LifeofSmokey that woman is Hardcore
@@LifeofSmokey I'm too.
That she never was raped or murdered blows my mind sometimes 😅🙈
@@LifeofSmokey exactly my thoughts...she goes places not even safe for white men...and she just goes about her day 🤣
That Goldwing guy is awesome!
Edit: And so is this smoky guy. 😁
Just got your favorite old man bike. 2024 R1250GSA. Was 30 F on first ride. My season just started.
That is a lovely bike indeed 😁👌
5*C is really confy for the 3 layers jacket :)
Happy New Year Smokey. We ride Year round, down here on the Alabama Gulf Coast, USA. Not near as cold as where you are, for sure ! I'm riding and loving my Harley Davidsons, but I'm looking to add a new AT to my Coral soon !
Yes there is such a thing called motorcycle season here in Quebec, Canada, like right now in the winter, 1 feet of snow and -15 celsius.
No people riding bikes with spikes or something? 😅 Yeah Canada is on another winter level haha
100% crazy, you know it's true and the reason why we like you 🤪
got a few 2025 rides on my AT but not as cold here is Seattle. Why and how do you have extra screen attached above the Carplay/dash?
Last time I took this Honda out I was using the apple car play with my phone. I thought it was charging the phone but it was not so somewhere in the middle of nowhere in Germany my phone ran out of battery so that means the gps car play was gone also.....charger cable was broken so there I was....no gps anymore 😂. Took me some time to find a gasstation and a new charger cable , charging the phone and continue the journey 🙈
I am here allrdy waiting for the z900 vid!
I rewatched Band of Brothers this weekend and made me think, I bet you have a lot of WWII stuff around you.
I know I would like to see something like that.
Yep we have some stuff , good idea 😎👌
Any season is motorcycle season! Temperature makes no differance to me but i really dont like getting caught out in snow and ice. Small bikes where there is not much traffic i even like that!
Great video. I really don't have any cold weather gear. I live in the Houston Texas area, and we usually don't get much colder than 30 degrees F.
When I lived in Northern Wisconsin, winters were long and cold. The riding season was short. I hated it!
In Canada there are usually 3 months that are unsafe to ride motorcycles. They spread salt and sand to melt the ice/snow. That stuff is no good for the non ADV crowd. Today is -8c and snow. I don't say "motorcycle season" though 😅😅
What do you think of that AlpineStars Bogota' Pro Drystar Jacket, Smokey? Any good for all-year round use?
Yep I really like it for the price! It was around 800€ for the pants and jacket and that's a good price compared to some other brands. Will make a video on my gear soon by the way
@@LifeofSmokey Thanks for the feedback. I have an M1000XR Competition coming this month, but think I also need a sane practical touring bike. That Africa Twin DCT just might be it. I love the way it looks and particularly the way it sounds. Keep up the great work!
Link for the handlebar lights? Asking the horses if they have ever seen 102 horses PRICELESS 😂
The handlebar doesn't have any lights mate? 😅🙈
@ you said something about mine and my mounting some lights in the center there on the video
On the Africa Twin? I'm confused , getting late and had some wine. Problem is me 😅
In the upper Midwest USA we use salt when it snows and metal rusts.
If you could invent a liquid spray cleaner for the garage where you just spray and the garage is clean, yeah you would be rich. Smokey’s Garage cleaner, just spray for a quick one and done😂.
Yeah now that was a “cold start” for sure…. “Arctic Twin” maybe?😂
Haha good idea Steve for the garage floor cleaner!? 😁👌
Why did you go for the standard africa twin and not the adventure sports?
Explained this I think 2 videos back with full explanation mate. Bigger front wheel , better looks are the biggest things 😊
I am a seasonal rider, 2 times per month, winter 🥶 summe ☀️ and autumn 🍂.
For raining season, I would ride my 160cc scooter instead of my Ducati.
Smokey is it possible Wile dreving your DCT put in neutral and give some aceleration and then put drive again?
Like we do on normal motorcicle, press clutch and give acceleration ?
And Happy New Year
That sounds very scary....will try 😅
Smokey if you don't now if it's possible don't do it, maybe you can ask Honda if it's possible.
Hello @LifeofSmokey ! I've the exact same model as you, Hace you noticed problems with cold start? Usually mine start on one try but sometimes needs a couple, also, Have you see any " - " symbol on the DCT? I think I have a problem with N gear sensor... 😮
You are committed driver smokey😊
Hi Smokey...I was just passing by and I could see your garage and the most beautiful bike is missing there. 🤔🤔🤔🤔🤔😉😉😉😉😉
It's in a garage 5km down the road no worries 😁
@LifeofSmokey ,😞😞
I have the exact same bike they are amazing just the most fun on two wheels 😁
Smokey, are you coming to the ABR Festival in June in the UK?
Thinking about it this year yeah 😁
7:27 It’s hard to admit but I have a motorbike season. It’s no fun driving 40 minutes to work in the morning (04:15 am) in 0°! 😂 And all the salt on the street would require a daily clanging of the bike!
I got my tenere on new years eve, ive only rode it in ice and horrendous storms lol made for it.
What GPS mount are you using?
Touratech mount and Garmin Zumo XT Gps 😊
our season start on NOV. to April after that the temp. reach 55 c*
Far weather rider. 😂 that's me for sure 💯
No snow and minimal salt I'm on mine as long as it's not sub zero.
I ride by any weather! Also by -12C° on the German Autobahn! ;) Latly withe my X-ADV and now with my NT1100 ... ;):)
Small wheels is even more scary haha
@@LifeofSmokey Aber... die X läßt sich besser fahren bei Schnee und Eis als die NT1100! ;)
Maybe do a TET series in belgium?
Ride on boring straight gravel roads you mean? 😁😁😁
I ride year round as a commuter. From 100-20 degrees Fahrenheit
Ik rijd al 5 jaar motor. Iedere dag van het jaar en 50.000km per jaar.
Wij wonen 100km van elkaar vandaan. Hoop ooit je tegen te komen met mijn k1600gt tuned beast
I ride all year all year round. I have a 60 mile round trip commute to London. Its dropped below zero this week and it certainly gets colder when the wind hits you at high speed. I've got the africa Twin adv Sport DCT on order - I guess I'm gay. 🤠
Haha join the parade!!! 😂🍾🥳
We can be gay together, will be picking up mine in a few weeks.
@@KoenPrins Now we have enough for a conga
How about some gear reviews, you put your gear through a lot, what works and what doesn’t?
Ok got it , will write that down 😎
5°? I ride my Africatwin under -15° !!! haha 5 degree is like spring weather !!
All year round . Avoid heavy rain though
used to ride all seasons but my bike now is to shiny to ride in the salt maybe if i buy a beaterbike
You need a winter beaterbike 😁
I am 60 and i use my Honda Xadv from january 1st to December 31…
it is called black ice ( in england ) hat invisible ice on the road..
I love how this video highlights the importance of embracing each challenge. It’s a reminder that progress happens when we face difficulties head-on.
😢😢😢 I didn't see my favourite bike in your garage. :(
Seems like the channel is moving in a direction I’m not so keen on.
Can you explain this a bit more Matt? I have a lot of things planned so it's important to listen to my audience 😊
I also have an AT and ride the complete year
Hi Smokey can you possibly do a video on the equipment you use like sat nav etc 😊
Noted 📝📝📝
japanese power!!!
Yeah oil spots on floors, coolant, burn out marks for in garage tire traction testing😂
Would be nice if one spray would clean the garage shelves , floor and walls and organize stuff 😂then ya can be rich😂.
Would have to settle for floor stain cleaner when ….bike gets nervous or marks its territory 😂
I ride all year mate
Looking out for youre container opening
33 minutes after
I also think an iPhone is a gay phone, but still there are a lot of self-proclaimed straight men walking around with them?
I love DCT!
why no more jimny videos ? :`(
How about getting the guy that bot your 1290r and drag race that against the African twin.
Will put it on my bucket list! 😁👌
Old bike against new bike.
I have the camera mounted on the top of my helmet...
I used to have that as well back in the day , turns out doing 300km/u on a GSXR 1000 caused neck issues with a camera on too 😅. Those days are gone but need to try something different 🙈
@@LifeofSmokey yes, it is tricky trying to find what is best for every situation. How about a helmet with Top mount for when you are on the Honda, and seperate helmet with chin mount for when you do other stuff... you aint smashing 300 k down the road on the Africa twin I would say... PS, thanks for the insparation and the great content. Hope to meet you some day...
Great idea Dean! Thanks for that and yeah I'm always up for a chat 😎
try too hot to ride , it is still 30 degrees outside where i live in these days :) , in summer it is unbearable :(
5c is not cold. Try-5C
Yeah felt like summer 😁
I love this kind of comment cause I live in Thailand and 25C is our winter. Our summer is 35C+ and when Westerners visit, you guys also complain about how unbelievably hot it is
Bro whats ur height 😅,
176cm 😊
DCT is working way better when you do real off road. Just focused on the track and have no worries about transmission tricks and all that
And I shook that machine has gender 😂
It's like people that use the sail boat hates people that use full machine boat 😂
Your workshop/ mancave is very ordered.....trust me when i say mine is a disaster zone.
Mine took 2 days of work to clean it back up 😅
4:03 Jesus, 40-50k views not worth it for you! l don't think my whole channel has 'so many' views! 😅Time to reconsider my life 😉😂
Of all People……You shuld not use anything other ARAI 😮😢😮
a motorcycle season is for sissy's :-) i always drive even in the snow, not that we get much snow in belgium ;-) i buy my bikes to use them not to put them in a glass case. love the vids makker keep it up.
Today was a nice example....snow afternoon and gone by dinner 😂
You want to do live streaming in Germany? Don't! Just don't! Out mobile network is utter bs. The signal is so bad, I sometimes don't have a signal while standing at the main train station of a big city 😂
👍🇧🇷 brazil
🥱
My mistake. I thought this would be about the AT. However it about how busy you are. Unsub.
Sorry to see you go , bye 👋
@@LifeofSmokey 😝
😂 I have been on UA-cam for over 12 years , video gave me +40 subscribers. I also think it's weird as I'm just talking about my life. 😅
Probably the worst video you've done!
