Wasn’t blown away when I first saw it, but gave it a go anyway. I have literally used it with the flame bulb every day since receiving it after the sale. Love that simulated flame. Good for bed time or taking a relaxing shower (sitting on the counter of course). Thanks for the info!

Prepared Guy, your review is spot on. The only thing I would add is that if one is not using the lantern, it is important to lock it out to maximize the period it will stay charged. The motion sensor that powers that indicator light has some small amount of parasitic drain. Someone clued me in after my lantern had discharged in a couple of months; an aha moment, obvious in hindsight. Since the regular lantern, Olight has come out with the Obulb and Obulb MC (everyone should have an Obulb ;-) and mini lantern. They went with metal on the mini lantern probably in response to some comment or to give a quality feel. The design changes are fine, but I wish they had stuck to the same materials, then it would have been significantly lighter in weight for potential ease of carry. Since the mini lantern is a sealed unit I do not know why it is only IPX4. The Obulb for those reading and unfamiliar with it, i.e., that have not seen your review, is IPX7.
I am using the Olantern currently with a pumpkin "topper" on it for Halloween. An intriguing aspect of this design.
I revisited this review after having used the Olantern for a while and having it pop up as a related video, when I was watching your review of the Sofirn IF22A. As I commented there: "My only Sofirn is the BLF LT1, an exceptionally fine lantern. I think they may have upgraded it slightly since I bought mine. I like the C to C charging, various high CRI tints, that it will run on 1 to 4 x 18650 batteries, and sturdy construction. If I had to pick one lantern, the BLF LT1 would be the one. Like the Olantern one can run it while it is plugged in and charging. A good aspect of both lanterns. Although one might want a crib sheet to operate the BLF LT1 for maximum flexibility, it will work just fine if one is not too picky by pushing the power button. LOL.
A side benefit for Olight users of the lantern is that it comes with a long MCC3 cord. Of course now that they have the Oport, which will adapt any USB C cord, that might not be as important. Cost considerations are as you describe; better to obtain it on sale, or at least look around for a 10% off code. For anyone that after weighing the pros and cons, does get an Olantern, I imagine they will like it.

Yeah, I thought it looked cheap as well until I received it and it's also much smaller than I expected (a good thing). I only ordered it during the flash sale to bundle with other lights for the discounts and the freebies. And of course to add it to my already massive Olight collection 😁🔦

yea am with you about the light led module they should include an LED that makes the flame animation. am a NITECORE fan thou cant wait to buy the TM20K monster. do a review of the TM20K please.

    • @PreparedGuy
      @PreparedGuy  2 роки тому +1

I'd love to do a review of the TM20K but unfortunately it's none removeable non replaceable 21700 battery disqualifies it for a review on the channel as the standards have changed on the channel over the last several months. New review policies we put in place to have stricter guidelines for long term use gear. 20,000LM in a pocket sized light would definitely be sweet to check out. I might reach out to nitecore and see if they would send one. I've actually stopped working with nitecore as of a year or so ago due to their warranty issues. I found out they weren't standing my their warranty without a hassle. So we will see if they will send me anything at all. 🤷🏻‍♂️😎👍

@@PreparedGuy thank you for the honesty. And yea i had a beef with them wen i had the concept2 flashlight and refuse to send me a new 1. They send me an email saying the light was fine but wen i received it. It had same problem after 3months new and never droped would not charge. Now i have the tm9k i use for my job and my daily edc life. But the tm20k is on my list unless u recomend something equal to the tm20k.

I bought it on sale too and like it so far. It's tiny, powerfull, has good runtime.
I'm not sure about the LED Modules and standard Price though.

Thanks for the review and getting the batteries out, that would void the warranty because you're disintegrating it as well as technically modifying it, improper mantience and misuse. No other reviews have done this, even though they didn't pay so thanks! I would have expected them to use higher quality batteries (protected Samsung 35Es). Are they 18650s or 18500s? I only ask because you said lithium ion battery cells and there are way too many types.

Thanks for taking notice. I try to give my viewers that real review experience and not just go through the motions to get a free product like many other review channels. 👍🏼😎

@Shadow Master - If you go back to :31 you will see Prepared Guy showing the 18500 1900 mAh 3.7 volt battery x 4 with the contacts and chip on the side of the 4-pack. In other words Olight is shaving off 15mm over an 18650 to make the base more compact or the Olantern less tall, whichever way you want to look at it. ;-) Olightstore also specifies "4 x 3.7V 18500 1900mAh Rechargeable Lithium-ion Batteries," not that one can really take advantage of this information.
Although I love my Olantern (at the sale price) I think this is one con in that one cannot switch out the batteries. Olight should extend the warranty to the usual 5 years and make the batteries user replaceable, even though most users probably would not take advantage of this functionality initially. I certainly don't have any 18500 batteries laying around. A pro to this lantern is the approximately 4 ft or 120cm MCC3 charging cord. That is very useful to someone having a lot of Olights.
Thanks for the review Prepared Guy and for taking off the base. I really wanted to see what was in there, but did not want to risk damaging anything. As for dropping it, no need to torture it too much, Olight themselves (Sean) already had a video on that. Surprisingly tough little lantern. Running it over with a Dodge Caravan finally killed it, but I wonder if Sean opened the base and readjusted it, if he could bring it back to life.

@@donaldstrader7241I rewatched and noticed that thanks. You could replace them but there will be a higher risk of fuck up and the charging will break. This is more of a prediction. Why didn't they use replaceable 18500s or 18650? What knobs. Those batteries won't last 5 years, just imagine the internal resistance.

Hey brother, had my eye on this one. I’ve got a bunch of “competitor” battery lanterns, so I am going to have a hard time convincing my spouse that this one is a “need.”
I’ll have to wait until Olight starts accepting brand ambassadors again I think... 🤔
    Good review!

I've been trying for brand Ambassadorship program for 2 year now with this channel and they're still full. It's crazy. think it's definitely worth the $55 I paid in the flash sale but a tough sell at full price.

There's a bundle on amazon that includes this and the olight i1R 2 EOS in desert tan for around $70. So I might get that considering it's cheaper than the lantern at full price and you get an extra little light

    • @PreparedGuy

Not a con for some, did you know a guy died because he used a non- proprietary battery in an Olight flashlight. Google it. I rather be safe with a proprietary battery.
