The RUSADIR (ex HONFLEUR) is a RoPax ferry originally built at the Flensburger Schiffbau-Gesellschaft (FSG) shipyard in Germany for Brittany Ferries. Due to construction delays, the initial contract was terminated, and the ship was later completed at Fosen Yard in Norway in 2022. As of 2023, the ship is part of Baleària's fleet.
The ferry was initially ordered in June 2017 from Flensburger Schiffbau-Gesellschaft (FSG) with construction number 774. The construction began on March 12, 2018, and the keel was laid on August 6, 2018. The ship was named after HONFLEUR, a French port town at the mouth of the Seine River, and was launched on December 14, 2018. The original delivery date was set for June 2019, with the ferry expected to operate mainly between the French port of Caen and the British port of Portsmouth.
Due to financial difficulties faced by the shipyard, the contractual delivery could not be fulfilled by April 30, 2019. The delivery was later postponed to the end of 2019, with the NORMANDIE continuing to serve the route in the meantime. In relation to the pandemic, the delivery was further delayed to 2021. In June 2020, the contract was terminated by the client. According to the shipyard, completion would have taken another 11 to 12 months, and the client was reliant on the ship.
The following month, the ship was taken over by the former shipyard owner, Siem Group. Siem commissioned the Fosen Yards shipyard in Trondheim, Norway, to complete the vessel. On October 25, 2020, the ship, accompanied by two tugboats, left the shipyard for Trondheim, arriving at the end of October/early November 2020. The ship was finally completed and delivered on May 23, 2022, after which it was relocated to Gdynia, Poland, and temporarily laid up.
In early 2023, the ship was prepared for deployment with the Spanish shipping company Baleària. Now renamed RUSADIR, the ferry operates between Málaga, Spain, and the Spanish exclave of Melilla in North Africa. The ship is equipped with a diesel-electric/gas-electric drive system. Four Wärtsilä dual-fuel W6L46DFA engines power generators, which in turn supply electricity to two electric motors connected to two propellers. The emergency generator is driven by a Mitsubishi S12R-M(P)TA engine. The ship is also equipped with three transverse thrusters.
The RUSADIR can carry up to 1,680 passengers and offers 261 cabins, a restaurant, a boutique, and spacious lounges. The vehicle deck provides 2,600 lane meters, accommodating 130 semi-trailers or a combination of 550 passenger cars and 64 semi-trailers.

Magnificent ! 😍
Thank you 😃
It looks huge from the side jeez.
Hallo Carsten, ein wie gewohnt tolles Passagevideo. Danke für's Zeigen. Daumen hoch! Liebe Grüße aus Berlin André
Lieber André. Vielen Dank für Deine nette Rückmeldung. Viele Grüße, Carsten 😃👍
Could you Maybe review the Trasmediterranea Fortuny sometime? Its the one that only passes between Malaga and Melilla. There arent any reviews on that one yet so could you do it?
Hi, thanks for your comment. Unfortunately this is not planned at the moment - I have too many others thing on my table. But who knows what the future will bring.
Did you do one of transmediterranea??
Yes I have
👍👍👍👍👍👍
If only she was with Brittany Ferries
Will you do a passage and arrival/departure on the new P&O Pioneer?
Hello , this is not planned for me at the moment. But I am sure that other UA-camrs will do it very quickly. Many greetings .😊
Hi Carsten! Very nice video!
Will you make videos on ferries around corsica this year?
i lefted corsica yesterday
Thank you very much! 😀
Yes, Corsica, definitely. I just got back yesterday. A few highlights to come are SARDINIA VERA arriving in Bastia, a trip with MEGA REGINA, A GALEOTTA leaving Bastia, A NEPITA in Propriano, and a few more. But it will take a while; first I have 3 more videos from Spain. But after that, it will start.
Das Schiff ist von der Kapazität her eher auf der Almeria- Nador Strecke gut Bedient, vor allem in den Sommer Monaten.
Ja, ist für diese Linie extrem groß. Läuft hier auch nur wegen der Subventionen.
There might have been some problems with the LNG system due to freezing of injection feed lines.
Hello John. Interesting hint. I had assumed until now that they would not (yet) run on LNG. But that could be a possibility for the slight delay.
Nice video! Maybe not so nice with an engine problem out at sea🥴 luckily they got it fixed, and did the ferry dock with the bow in and not with the aft in at the end of the video?🤔
Thank you. In my observation, they only dock over the bow.
@@JustFerries Aha ok 🙂
Apparantly the stern ramp is not compatible with either port without alterations being made.
Great Carsten! Couple of questions,
how come you didn’t show the interiors of the passenger areas?
You took a rental car across, (I assume) was it not possible to travel as a foot passenger, or just more convenient that way?
Hope you don’t mind me asking, just curious. Cheers.
Hello Mitchell . Thank you for your feedback. 😊👍
.About your questions:
I don't understand question one (passenger interior), maybe you can clarify what you mean?
Question two: I had to take a car with me for organisational reasons. Because I was going back with ALMARIYA (Video will follow in one week) to Almeria. And I had to get from Almeria to Malaga. I think that foot passengers are also taken along. 😊
@@JustFerries Footage from the public spaces, interior of the ship. Normally you show such spaces when you do a passage video.
That’s makes sense with the car, thanks.
From minute 6:34 you can see the interior for the passengers.
@@JustFerries Thanks Carsten, I must have had my brain in neutral when I watched that, because I just watched it again and don’t remember seeing it before. 🤪
Ha ha, no problem. I know this 😁😂👍
One deck?😮
Looks very nice and modern inside, but not very reliable :)
And what's with that strange bow-only entrance/exit? Never saw any ferry doing it, except Italian train ferries.
Thank you for your feedback 👍. The reliability will come. We must not forget that the crew is brand new on board and needs to practice a bit first. We should allow them that. If that was the reason, because of course we don't know the exact reason for this little delay.
They will need to make alterations to the stern ramp before they can use it as it is not compatible with either port.
