HIKING WITH A COATI (Metropolitan Natural Park, Panama)

- Hola Todos! Today we take you to the Metropolitan Natural park (Parque Natural Metropolitano) here in Panama City to get some fresh air, search for wildlife, and view the skyline from the city’s second tallest peak.
While staying in Panama City, we felt that visiting the Metropolitan Natural park was a MUST SEE. First off, as Andrew says in the video, it is the only tropical forest to serve as a public recreational park for a metropolitan area - how unique! This park is located along the Panama Canal’s eastern shores within Panama City’s Ancon district, and is the only protected area in Central America located within city boundaries. It is home to 284 types of trees, 254 species of birds, 45 species of mammals, 36 species of reptiles, and 14 species of amphibians. Geoffroy’s tamarins, two-toed sloths and three-toed sloths live here, although it is apparently very rare to see them. You’re more likely to spot birds, reptiles, and of course TONS of ants. However, if you are dying to see a sloth during your time in Panama, you can also walk with a expert guide who can help point out some of the hang out points of the animals. The Park even offers guided tours to groups for a fee (five-person minimum) if booked well in advance.
However if you are just looking to explore the park on your own (like we did) it will cost $4/ person to enter. The park’s seven trails cover some 3+ miles (5 km). The Mono Tití Road ascends to the top of Cerro Cedro (Cedar’s Hill) and offers impressive views of Panama City. Sendero La Cienaguita also leads to this lookout, but is a longer and more strenuous hike. Sendero Las Caoboas has steep portions and includes an observational area that looks out over the city and bay. The other two trails, Los Momótides and Roble, are short and flat.
On this adventure we ran into 2 animals: a coati & a ñeque! We felt super lucky to have seen two mammals.
I hope you enjoyed this video! Thanks for your support :)

ya'll have become so comfortable on camera so quick! looking forward to more adventures from this trip
Thank yall so much! We learned it is easiest to be on camera when you are exhausted from a hike 😂😂
We appreciate it💜
We went through this park last week and there were two sloths right at the visitors center! Then we saw a big gaggle (?) of monkeys on our way out. What a great place! We laughed about your Uber driver- we had one here in PC that used his horn most of the way- such a relief to get to our destination😄
Omg so lucky 😍😍 We finally ended up seeing a sloth while on a wildlife tour but it was so high up in a tree it was hard to see it! What time in the day did y'all visit the park?
and yes the ubers 😆 I miss Panama ❤ Enjoy!
That's really superb and awesome place to see my friend.
It really is! Thanks for watching 😊
Very interest hiking and make me remember we ever had one trip to the mountain and met so many monkeys. They just really really love peanuts and grabbed from my hand so quickly. so funny, but that was in China so many years ago. Love to watch this video. Thank you! Our friend👍😊
In Panama, capuchin monkeys will swan over you and open your backpacks, bags, looking for food, They know how to open zippers and buttons. At least Coaties will ask you for food.
Neat! I’ve never been to that park. Very cool!
Oh wow! We really loved visiting this park :)
I recommend you El Valle de anton and Kuna Yala for trips while you are here.
Thank you so much for the recs! I have not heard of Kuna Yala yet but have heard good things of Valle de Anton but am not yet sure how we would get there. We will look into both! Thank you 🙏
Loved watching this hike!! It looked fun with the little creatures! :)
Thank you so much for watching 😊 💜 we had fun & learned a lot about the wildlife
Disfrute mucho el vídeo 💯.. Felicitaciones..Gracias 👍🇵🇦
Muchas gracias :) agradecemos su apoyo
You know they have coatis in south texas?! I almost took one home after our Mexico trip, hahaha!!
No way we had no idea 😂 They’re just so cute!!
I think Kuala Lumpur has a tropical rainforest park in the city as well
What an amazing adventure u had there~
Thanks for watching 💜
That Coati looks like a cross of a lemur and raccoon! Cute! And you guys get coffee at the end of the hike!
right! And his paws remind us of bear paws hehe🐻
Yes and Coatis are actually related to raccoons. Coatis are diurnal and raccoons are nocturnal, you can find both in Panama, but racoons seem to like coastal forests for since they like crabs and Coatis like deep rain forests. .
Congrats on your 10,000 steps! Thanks to introducing us to Paco and Taco. My daughter is Obsessed with Sloths also. Have you seen the prehistoric ones where they were bigger than elephants. You guys make the best of each situation and so positive. What I need to start my Sat.
OMG WHAT! I laughed real loud after reading that! A sloth bigger than an elephant sounds terrifying 😂😂
Thank you so much - we really appreciate it 😊
im loving you videos!! Maybe you can visit Cerro Ancon too , there is a lot of wild life in that part too and the views are awesome. And a lot of history too. Glad you are liking Panamá 🇵🇦
Wow! Thanks so much 😊 We have been looking into that area and hopefully we can make it out there! Thanks for watching 😊
My heart broke when you said the bus driver yelled and you and you two had to walk on the road to get there ☹️ so glad the rest of the day went well!
Literally laughed out loud at Andrew's apology video and love of toucans 🤣🤣🤣🤣
AAAHH those ant lines were sooooo cool!!
Hahaha its okay - i dont think she meant harm but I couldnt really understand what was going on! Probably a big language misunderstanding 💜 hahahahah Glad you thought those jokes were funny 😂😂 I watched Andrew cut half of his cheesy jokes out of the vids but those got to stay LOL
@Journey with Jen & Drew one day we gotta get a whole video just full of bloopers and cheesy lines 🤣😛
😎👍
😊
I’m sorry the bus driver yelled at you and made you get out early. At least it wasn’t super far to the park and you got to #enjoynature !
Its okay! I think honestly it was a big misunderstanding due to our mediocre Spanish skills hahaha. we learned that trying to understand Spanish when everyone wears masks makes it very hard😂 We loved the nature!
