- Hola Todos! Today we take you to the Panama Canal on both the Atlantic and Pacific sides (Miraflores & Agauclara Visitors Center) as well as the Portobelo ruins and El Cristo Negro. This was quite the adventure and we loved getting to take this trip with our new friend!
Starting off early, we drove about an hour from Panama City to the Colon area to check out the Aguaclara locks. These locks are newer and take ships from the Caribbean/Atlantic to the Pacific side of Panama. Definitely a different experience since the locks are completely different and were only finished in 2016! Next we made our way over to Portobello, a Caribbean style town that had 2 awesome historical sites. The first was the Portobelo ruins! Portobelo was established in 1597 by the Spanish to use as a midway point to bring gold and silver from Peru all the way back to Spain. Next we decided to go to Iglesia de San Felipe in the center of town to view El Cristo Negro (Black Christ). There are a lot of legends surrounding El Cristo Negro, but many people believe that it was found around the 17th century when a ship sailing from Colombia was forced to dock in Portobelo due to weather. After docking, the men on the ship could not leave due to worsening storms. They then threw El Cristo Negro off the ship because they thought it was “superstitious” and continued to sail with good weather. But hopefully you enjoyed this video!
Thanks so much for watching :)

Gracias amigo 😊🇵🇦
This is really cool, you guys. Can't beat having a local show you around! The old fort in particular is beautiful!
We think so too 😻 thanks for watching y’all!
The Panama looks really cool. I would definitely want to see it too.
Its cool that you had a guide who knows the area really well
The ruins look really interesting xx
It was a great time & so kind of Dalva to take us! Definitely one of our most memorable times here
Guys great video, make sure you check out the causeway and the biomuseum! ❤️🇵🇦
Oooh yes - thank you!🇵🇦🇵🇦
Panamá 🇵🇦🌴☀️🦋🌳🌊
Nos encanta Panamá 😊🇵🇦
Love watching y’all explore Panama! 👍🏻
Thank yall so much! :)
Hate not know what people are saying to us! haha 🤣 I'm like uhhhhh lol The tugboats were cool & so were the ruins! Love the video y'all!
Thank you so much Matt & Natalie!! 💜 I hate it too but at least we are slowly improving our Spanish 😂😂 Maybe by the end of it we will understand all the bus drivers!
Also make sure you visit multi plaza mall which is the nicest, and you already went to albrook mall which is the biggest in Latin America 🍀
Funny because we actually just went to the multiplaza mall too! :) It was HUGE - we couldn't find the New Balance store for about 30 minutes 😂 (we tried to find a good priced Panama jersey but none were Andrew's size) Thanks for watching & the recommendations!
Good video. As Andrew said, Panama Canal is about Engineering behind it, considering also the technology they have available by the time of the construction. In the orginal lock the water flow is just by gravitiy, the do not use pump for it. Great that you visit also Portobelo and tasted the food there, I personally like the Caribbean seasoned food.
Yes it's fascinating! Definitely crazy that it was build during the early 1900s. And the food was unbelievable we loved it :)
Excelente!
@@CharlieBrown0507 Muchas Gracias 😊
Ha ha! I toured the canal 40 years ago and it really is an expectation killer!
🤣🤣🤣
You have to know the whole story and visit the cemetery’s of dead Frenchmen and Pacific Islanders to appreciate the true wonder!
If you guys would just download the MiBus app you'd stop missing your stops. You get a live feed of the bus location. Unless you just want to practice Spanish with the bus driver, of course.
😂😂 yes we recorded this before your advice comment from the last vid! Kinda embarrassing it happened twice oopsy
Thank you Guillermo!
