    We only have 2 people in my household so I didn't need a 15 minute tutorial on how to freeze huge quantities of peppers. Thank you for a simple way for a simple girl and I look forward to watching more of your videos if they are anything like this one. I just subscribed!

    Sorry I didn't watch this when you first posted but in a zone 5 garden the peppers have been gone for 3 months now. After watching your pepper jelly video I had to come and take a look. Hoping that next summer I'll have a good pepper harvest and room in the freezer to try this. I already do this with tomatoes, don't know why I never tried it with peppers. Thank you for the video!

    Kim,
    I Can't wait for that new pepper jelly recipe! I've been squirreling away jalapeno and sweet peppers all year long. I wash & core them as I get them on sale here, and shove them in the freezer. I have a shelf full, and, will be making pepper jelly within the next several weeks. Your recipe is right on time, as I have been concerned with the high sugar content.
    My Tabasco harvest took off after the brutal summer heat started dying down. I had to spray for a bad aphid infestation, but, once that was under control, the plants took off. I've been fully loaded on 5 six-foot-tall pepper plants, at least four times now. This weekend will be my final harvest, then, I'm ripping the plants. Cold front moving in and will take them down. Also, I'm ready to plant something else in that space.
    P.S. I've been dehydrating all those peppers, then, grinding them into spice powder. Awesome-ness sprinkled on the plate!
    Hugs!

    Another way to remove air from the bag is to use a large container of water. Seal the bag most of the way (like you did in this video) and the slowly lower the bag into the water. The water will displace the air from the bag and then you can close the bag. Voila! vacuum sealed bag. :D

    Great tip. Never thought about freezing them whole. Now, tip time. I buy fresh pork shoulder butts @ $2.88 and grind my own sausage. Put in Tyme and sage from the garden. So now, I have some pretty inexpensive sausage. I buy family pack beef arm steaks @ $2.88 a pound also and grind my own lean ground beef. I pack them as close to one pound each. When I just have one or 2 bags to vacuum seal, the straw method works great. However, when I have all these bags of pork, beef or vegetables, I fill one side of my sink full with cold water. With my baggies ready to seal, I slowly immerse them in the water which pushes all the air out. When I have the bag submerged right to the top being careful not to let water in the baggy, I zip it shut!! I like to use the freezer bags with the little zipper on them as I am able to close them much faster.

  • @oregonpatriot1570
    @oregonpatriot1570 4 місяці тому

    If you do a lot of freezing (and you haven't already bought one)? I recommend buying a vacuum sealer and a couple rolls of bags. One 8" and one 11" covers 99.9% of my needs. They come in 150 foot rolls.
    Foodsaver is the most popular brand, but I find them overpriced and poor quality which seems to get worst each year. There's lots of cheaper ones (around $50). You just need to search for the features you need. Being able to manually start and stop is good for not crushing food, and having a 'port' for a Ball Jar attachment is really handy for marinades and long term jar storage.
    Thanks for the video! I've got a bunch of Jalapeno peppers for about ten pounds of summer sausage I'm going to make, but I'm not quite ready to start.

    good day ms Kim can you give me some advice because my peppers always attacks by aphid's and some pest insects

    • @lmjpilgrim2
      @lmjpilgrim2 7 років тому +2

      Spray your plants with NEEM Oil Concentrate. Early in the season, my peppers were getting black "soot" on them. Upon careful inspection, I had an infestation of aphids which were being "herded" by ants. I mixed up a batch of NEEM and literally drenched the plants, over and (especially) under all the leaves. In about three days, all the aphids were dead!
      Also, this season, I learned (I believe from MIgardener) about mixing a stronger concoction of the NEEM for this type of spraying. I have a 2-gallon sprayer, and added 3 Tbs. per gallon of the NEEM oil, for a total of 6 Tbs. Didn't hurt the plants at all, and truly knocked those aphids into submission.
      Hope this helps!
