I don’t understand people on here criticizing him for not “sticking with a certain club” he does reviews and gives his opinion on the club/product he’s reviewing. Really it’s not hard to understand.

I am reading a lot of those comments too. It makes me think of the Stealth 2. Most reviews last year at this time said it was great. Then we started hearing about the face cracking, caving in, popping off. Fargiveness, Fargiveness, Fargiveness. Turns out it wasn't forgiving at all compared to an older Ping or whatever. Ultimately the viewer must decide if it is a review or an advertisement and weigh it accordingly.

I think the main issue is, people buy a new driver , woods, irons , to try to fix poor technique and when it doesn’t fix their game they get upset with people doing reviews and saying this stuff is decent, no driver is going to forgive an 8deg L path with a 15 deg face R and then wonder why it still going 100 yards forward and 285 yards right

Pxg has made nice improvements in their drivers. They have not been known for putting out the best drivers as most have missed the boat somewhere. I was fitted for the gen 4 which ended up being the worst driver I’ve ever owned. But the gen 5 and newer seem to have fixed a lot.
My main issue with pxg fittings is they are inconsistent with how they do things. If you get a good fitter, they will alternate between the new club and you gamer and not just have you warm up with your gamer and then stick either pxg and a million shafts.
Most of us need more time to warm us and they should have you going back and forth to shot data is more consistent with how your body is feeling. Ideally it should be done over several sessions as well.
I saw a guy post the other say how he bought this driver because it was so much better. He posted his stats of his old gamer which had maybe 15 shots and then posted about 4 different combos of the black ops and shafts. And of course picked the best combo. I asked if he tried that shaft in his gen 5 pxg and said no. For all he knows that shaft could have been better.
Along with that, the data showed how his swing got faster and better as he hit more balls. Angle of attack went from 0 to 4 degrees which explains 99% of the difference results.
I wish fitters (not just PXG) would focus on more than just selling the latest club. So many of us could see better results just from a few tweaks.

I game the Gen 5 XF this past year and got refitted in December when they had black Friday pricing on this driver. I went with the premium shaft upgrade to a Graphite Design and added 20 yards from my current gamer. I ordered a 12 degree head that I will use with my old gamer shaft, but in a mini-driver configuration with a shorter shaft. To be fair, my fitter gave me a small setup tip that I was doing wrong, and that made an instant difference to the dramatic gains. So the fitting was worth it, but the gains are also in the premium shaft as it helped my tempo. No need for the latest head, at least not for now. Once I get broken in with the new combo, if I get refit in a year, I can just slot in my existing GD shaft with the proper grip size that I like and see if anything can really be improved from here, or if I just need better technique or more swing speed to find the gains. All this to say, I have access to a great PXG fitter where I am! There was no push for the upsell to the Gen6 head, even though I would agree that its better and the black ops is better still, but the biggest thing I needed was a shaft that works for my brain dynamics in terms of feel and feedback. I will be patient with more gains from here on out.

I'm surprised more manufacturers are not going to the 3 moveable weight system that this driver has. That coupled with the multitude of shaft options, allows a professional fitter (not just some guy working at the store) to match a driver to the individuals swing. Most golfers don't have the time or patience to change their swing.... so fitting the clubs to their current swing makes the game more enjoyable. BUT.... make sure you get fitted after you are into your golf season a few months. I live in the Seattle area and don't play from October to March due to the wet weather. 5 years ago, I went for a fitting in February. Since my swing was "rusty", I was fitted for clubs that worked for me then but didn't work as well after a few months of playing. It's nice starting the season with shiny new clubs...... but much nicer having the ones that fit your real swing. I won't make that mistake again.

I have no objections to anything you said, but I see it a bit differently because I am at a lower level for sure. I love golf and have become very interested in it. That said, I don't really get to play much. I try things with my swing, realize it doesn't work well, then change my swing sometimes very drastically and very often, lol. Club companies and fitters would recommend that everyone, even beginners get fitted. I wonder if a fitter has ever said to someone, you need to fix some stuff in your swing before you should buy a 600 dollar driver.

I no kidding also have my 10.5* sim2 cranked up one notch (+0.75*) total of 11.25* total.
It just seems to work far more often than even I expected.
It does just slightly close the race and my miss is already left, but it doesn’t seem to punish me. Maybe I can go at it harder and that lets me leave the face open a tad? I dunno

James, I was a big fan of your channel but what is frustrating is you did a shaft fitting video with the TPT that was really interesting and was clear in video used a TSR head but never explained what happened as far is if using that shaft going forward with the TSR head and also never saw that shaft in any of your new driver testing. If that was such a good shaft for you and were going to game it, why is not in any other videos? People like me rely on your opinion and used to trust your opinion but more and more seems like just doing videos solely for sponsors and clicks and not being as honest about product reviewing or what your truly gaming.

For the amateurs amongst us our game changes one round to the next, and so does our swing and swing thoughts. Would it not be worth us going for a fitting, noting the final specs/settings suggested and then walking away. Perhaps a week later go for a fitting elsewhere and then mentally noting if we arrive at the same result. If we do, then great our swing is good enough and repeatable enough to warrant a custom fitted driver..... But if we don't, then we haven't blown £500+ because something clearly isn't right and the honeymoon period would have been relatively short, but they money has already been spent.?? What's your thought on this approach and where could it go wrong for the buyer/player?

    • @Chris54321

I got back into golf two years ago with an absolutely awful swing . Maybe every 6 weeks or so I go to 2nd Swing Golf and hit some balls on their Trackman to see my numbers and learn what I need to improve. Each time, I will buy something cheap, and I mean cheap, as thanks for use of the Trackman. I don't want a club/shaft/setup that helps a terrible swing. I want a decent swing, then I will consider a fitting and upgrade.

At last someone who talks sense! You're absolutely right. I play off 15 at a very tough links course, so the handicap travels well. For 4 -6 rounds been playing so well. Even in windy & wet conditions. Step out yesterday, nice weather, no wind. Couldn't hit a bulls arse with a banjo!! Hopeless with the driver, putter cold as ice. So what if I went for a fitting yesterday? Would've ended up with a completely different spec to if I went in the last few weeks. A club fitting needs to be done over a few trials. Problem for me is PXG are almost 2 hours away. They need more fitting pro's in the south of England.

Last year I got paired up with a guy who had PXG clubs. he also had a PXG hat, PXG golf bag, PXG water bottle, PXG pull over, PXG logo on his wooden golf tees, was playing the PXG ball and was wearing all black. I felt a bit like he took the whole bottle of aspirin. It was a little distracting when he walked up onto the first tee, you almost don't know what to say to him because he was absolutely outfitted to death. And everything was new. Yes, you could do this with any mfg, but it seems like they "get em".

Problem I have is all the driver reviews are on the same holes and the drives all seem to end up in exactly the same place. So operator hits the ball to that location, not the driver, in fairness it’s not James fault, the technology has got as far as it’s likely to get. Naturally all manufacturers will dissect the oppositions produce, steal some ideas and you end up with very similar offerings. This is review time of year, and James is no different, you can only review what’s put in front of you. If you buy based on reviews you are mad, go try the drivers, and use a good recommended fitter, rather than a sales operation, promoting the products that deliver the best profit. Try and hit your choice outside, not just on a simulator, and definitely make at least two visits, so that you hit the driver on a day when you are not really at it, you want the club that matches you, good and bad.

They do look promising. I’d be very interested if you would do a head to head for ball speed. I’ve had the TSR2 since they were released back in 2022. I’m interested in the AI smoke and Q10 and this black ops. But ball speed is my main factor. I’ve yet to hit anything that matches the TSR ball speed. But that AI smoke and Black ops has been calling my name. Thanks for all you do James. Keeping it real in the golf community. 💪🏻💪🏻💪🏻

PXG fitting experience second to none. The driver looks timeless and the feel is amazing. @@JamesRobinsonGolf Cheers! Be interesting to see if any of the new releases can best the TM Max this year. This is first time since SIM2 MAX TM has put out something for the average player.

I got to hit it at a hero pre release event and I loved it. I also played a shaft I avoided before.
I can't justify the price, but I loved the club.

Now there's the winner so far this year as far as looks go. I'm sure i could duff the PXG around the course just as well as any of em. Lol. Getting better every year though. I'm gonna surprise some of my buddys this spring and possibly win a beer or 2 from them. Kids and grandkids got me a driving net for Christmas. Trouble is, it's -2 and a foot of snow here in Missouri right now and my wife won't let me set it up inside. Says she likes the windows to have glass in them. She just doesn't understand the addiction.

Camera is offset to james right hand side if you moved straight behind him that angle would swap sides entirely to a turn over draw - lot of shot tracer shots often look near the opposite to what the shot actually is unless done directly or near enough behind the player 🙂

Why do you rip the head cover off so manically?

And a draw goes right to left, not left to right😂😂😂😂😂

I’m going to need complete new set after three fusions I’ll need new setup and I’m stumped what to do. I’m cobra guy but love those takomo’s and even Kirkland seem interesting.
