These look good, and are excellent for tabletop play. And the most important part is that you had fun painting them. I'm really happy to see this video, because most people are not going to be painting master level competition minis like Sam Lenz or Trovarion or mini witch, Lyla Mev--especially straight out of the gate. Thanks much for this one. Holiday best and cheers!

3:00 I took a hair (literally one hair off my head) and I use that for painting really tiny details such as Nakrasha's scar. If you use a stiff hairbrush bristle, that can do the same thing. Another option I've used is the very tip of a needle.

I know someone who saves her cat's shed whiskers (when she finds them) to use for the super super fine detail painting. They're the perfect combination of durability and stiffness while still being a very very fine tip. They're even free (if you already have the cat), you just have to find the whiskers like some sort of rare loot drop

Hobby tip though, bake them in an oven for a while to kill all the bacteria and make it safe for use!

As someone that has been painting miniatures for about 30 years and has taught my friends and family how to paint, I gotta say that you're doing a great job! you've got the basics down pat and you understand layering concepts well. Just keep practicing and _enjoying_ the painting!
The one suggestion I would make for you would be to set up a miniature stand for the mini's while you're painting. I use some poster tac to secure the miniature to an old paint bottle so I dont have to touch the miniature while painting. It also makes it a LOT easier to rotate the mini and get into hard to reach spaces.
If you have videos of painting the other mini I think I can speak for all of us when I say that we'd love to see that!

As someone who used to get paid to teach people to paint miniatures, that's a really good job especially for a beginner. One thing to keep in mind when working with craft paints is that they are much thicker than miniature paints. While this isn't necessarily a problem if you can do what you need in one coat, going over the same spot to correct "mistakes" can obscure details over time. It's best to add water to get the proper texture (generally liquid chocolate is what you want your paint to be).

The greatest strength of mini painting imo is that it has a low floor and high ceiling. Extremely talented and experienced painter's make their minis into astounding works of art, but it's also fairly easy for a beginner to make something that looks pretty decent. It is essentially just a 3d coloring book.

I can not remember where I first saw this tip, but you can use dry tea (from a tea bag) and glue it down for a basing material.
It is only important that the tea be dry. If the tea in your tea bag looks too big, crush it smaller.
    -
If you want to put rocks in the base, tiny pebbles found in sand on the side of the road can be used. Just wash and fully dry them first.

I only recently got into D&D but have been painting mini's for 20 years. Very nice job on these mini's!! For basing you could just scoop up sand from your yard and sift it in the grade you want and then bake it to kill the microbes. For the skulls i saw shooting by i would recomend a sepia wash.
    Also a wet-pallet makes a big diffrence!

She came out great! What I'd say when it comes to painting faces, I'd do things like the eyes first, or at least the whites of the eyes. That way, you can just shape them with the flesh tone afterwards. And yes.....I know all too well the pain of putting down a highlight, hating how it looks, then painting over it again lol. Wet paint will always appear brighter than how it will look after it's dried. Sorry for the ramble; she came out fantastic! And if you do base her, I use the Army Painter basing stuff with some PVC Glue (Tacky Glue) mixed with some water.

The set looks great! It seems like you could achieve a bit more control over the paint by thinning it down some more.
On another note: I don’t use smaller size brushes for detail work, I only make sure that my size 2 brush has a superbly sharp point to it. I always ran into the problem, that the tiny amount of paint in a super small brush would partially dry on the way from the palette to the mini. With a large body brush, the paint will keep its consistency and flow much better from the bristles. Larger brush, still more control over the results.
I know it sounds backwards, but my painting has drastically improved since I switched to the larger brush. Positive side note, I don’t need to change brushes for any job (other than dry brushing of course). Just make sure to maintain the tip with proper cleaning.

You should do a cosplay of a random Subscribers character. If you have done this already just ignore me but if not I'll drop one in to get things started. :)
Alakir Kasan - Hobgoblin Arcane Cleric / Chronurgy Wizard - Background Investigator.
A detective from Xhorhas who failed to solve a case that was too personal. He quickly turned his focus from being an arcane cleric of the Luxon in the Kryn Dynasty to the pursuit of wizardry in particular Chronurgy in hopes of turning back the clock on the tragedy he failed to stop.
Physical Description - Lanky pencil gray skin with a hue of maroon showing through. Yellow eyes capped with sharp eyebrows giving the impression of intensity. Slick black hair with streaks of gray pulled tight to a bun. The bun is accented with an ornate hairclip resembling a dodecahedron a symbol of the Luxon. A neck cowl grips around the back of the neck formed from rows and rows of thin bones like that of a turkey's wishbone connected with a dark red silk like cloth. Under that is a white robe accented with black trim. Runes line the black trim. Carries a smooth staff capped with a floating dodecahedron accented with runes on each side.

Losing track of time while painting minis is super easy. Last year I painted over 30 minis in two months. I'm currently working on four ware wolves and one female tabaxi. Then I'm thinking of adding to my zombies by getting ten more zombies and getting four more skeletons for my skeletons. Eventually I'll get more kobolds for my kobolds. I like having enough monsters minis for a game of DND. I've got enough trolls, orcs, and devil's. A very good friend of mine printed out some minis that work good as ghost or shadows. Painting minis is a fun part of playing DND.

I have almost painted enough minis to feel comfortable painting one of these now. Just saw my set on my shelf this morning, so im hoping to feel brave about them soon.

They look great. I highly recommend using a zenithal high light after priming. I own a airbrush, but still do my zenithal high light with a cheap makeup brush to dry brush the mini. It makes details and areas that catch light pop out. Making blocking, shading, and high lighting easier. Cheers!

I actually saw a video where you paint the whole figure black & then lightly dry brush some grayish paint over the black , which helps create shadows ! Then you can paint over it with some colors

I recently got back into mini-painting (specifically Horus heresy) after a 15-ish year hiatus from the hobby (played warhammer40k before) and i find the painting much, MUCH more enjoyable than i did before.
There is a much wider range of types of (technical) paints available making it way more fun to add cool effects to your mini's
If you can, try out some contrast- and/or speedpaints, and use oil washes for easy shading (it is an easy and early step adding a lot of depth to your stuff)
As a last cool tip, for basing there are some really cool and interesting technical paints which 'crackle' in cool and random patterns that i would really recommend giving a go it's one of the things that gave me a good surprise and a lot of statisfaction when i got it under control. (i even used a ground texture effect on one of my mini's as a camo-effect on his cloak. lots of fun. :)
oh, and for metallics, try 'drybrushing' most metallic paints aren't really good for opacity and coverage, but with this technique gives you a great effect.
Just have fun, and the best thing i've learned painting recently, is that it's an additive process, you can keep coming back to it later and make things better :)

Awesome! While I can't afford this hobby I did enjoy painting some orks back in the day.
I hope you get to see how others paint these figures.

Good job! Looks better than my first attempt. Tips from friends was what took my minis to the next level. Dry brushing is great for armor and weapons but hell on a brush. I used an 000 brush for face detail.

I've been painting minis for over 20 years now. Great job as a beginner Ginny. You're figure looks great! I'd suggest using some Citadel Technical paint as your base. Then you can use a wash to tone it down a bit, and a couple of drybrushed highlights. Then add some grass and flower tufts from Army Painter, GaelForce 9, or another basing materials company. Keep going and happy painting!
