Right, but I wanna hang out in her garden! It does not seem so lo ng ago that those chives were planted. I so want to try planting some...gotta try it!
Wow your idea is outstanding. I envy you because it's a self-sufficient life. And thank you for explaining the detailed manual and sharing it with me.🙆♀️❤👍💕
Me, too! They bloomed early, so I cut back to about 2-inches, and they are coming back up. Super tender and happy. I don't know if they will flower again (?!?) but, here's hoping so because I want so very much to make this lovely vinegar!
I've been experimenting with all kinds of homemade extracts, pickling and other recipes, now I have to plant chives and try this!!! Thanks for another great video. Loved the footnote about Mr. MuchMorePatient!!!! You crack me up!
Thanks Erin for this great tutorial. What a great gift idea! I inherited a crop of chives when we moved into our home 45 years ago, they are still going strong. I loved the border idea and now the vinegar idea. Gave new energy to this awesome plant! Loved your comment about mr. much more patient recycling!
Erin, I love your channel for the down to earth garden advice and your unique and casually elegant garden style. You also look beautiful on the still for this video!!
I must make some chive vinegar! It is so pretty with the flowers in it, I would want to sit it in my window while it is steeping. And using the strainer from the spinner is the best tip ever! Why didn't I think of that?😄
Covet it all, like you do pickles? Pickles, peaches, tomatoes, green beans, or anything you're canning. Using chives, flowers or stems, is a great substitute for onions because the flavor of chives is much more delicate. Plus I love the delicate little pink flowers. Virginia, zone 6 northern Ohio
Vicki Keeler took the words right out of my mouth. You feel like a friend. I loved the two little ditties, one of the pouring rain and the other of the Japanese beetle which I got a good laugh from. You're just so real. You are a favorite person ❣️
Now I’m sorry I’m not growing chives , I’ve bought a packet of seeds last year and didn’t plant them and the same this year, no more excuses, I will spread some seeds today, thank you 🙏 for the idea
You’re so cute! 🥰 Thanks for the great recipe. I don’t like chives or anything in the onion family, but I know my boss would love it and especially with chives from her own garden.
More simple garden produce recipes like this! I always have big plans to preserve, and never seem to get around to it or have the energy after a season full of glorious gardening. So easy peasy fresh garden preserving would be so appreciated. Thanks Erin!
Erin, this tastes great, even better if you dice a few garlic scapes up and toss them in the vinegar, along with the chive flowers! I use Rice Wine Vinegar which tastes wonderful infused with chives and garlic scapes. ~Margie
Hi Erin! This was really fun and interesting! I want to try this, but I only have one plant. I may have to find room for more. Thank you so much for sharing!
My chives got out of control, so we put them along the border of the garden to stop the lawn from encroaching. Maybe not our best idea... They are wild! Will have to deadhead. Never thought about that before. LOL. I have a ton of chives, so this looks like an awesome and fun thing to do with the flowers! Thanks, Erin! I love your videos!
I’ve made fruit flavored vinegars but never savory. Now I need to head out and see if I can find some chives at the nurseries. Thanks for this great idea for another homemade item to go into a cooking themed gift basket. Erin, you’re the best! 🌿
@@martinadarcy781 Hi Martina. It’s a very easy recipe. Nowadays fruits are being combined with other fruits and or herbs. That makes me want to try out a few recipes. I’m from Michigan, USA. 👋🏻
Where I’m from in Hawaii, everyone does this with small chili peppers. You see them on restaurant tables next to other hot sauces. I will have to try the chive flower infused vinegar. Sounds delicious. I love to grow chives. Thanks for idea.
Looks great! Definitely need to up my game on vinegar and oils. I have hedges, more like drifts or waves, of garlic chives that bloom late summer. Not as pretty, but I think I’ll make a go of it for the flavor. And , catch the the spring season chives on the next go around. Lol, yes, dead heading...a must!
Thank for reminding me to try this. I wanted to watch what you were doing but I was too distracted by your backsplash. May I ask what it is, please? Thanks very much. ~ Lisa
It’s vinegar so a LONG time. I’ve used mine 9 months later (and then my stash runs out). Because I’m always paranoid about preserved food and offering advice on it, I’d suggest also looking for a university extension guide on vinegars just to be sure.
Thanks for the recipe Erin, I’ll be making it this year. Quick question, I have a climbing hydrangea that is doing well but has never bloomed. It’s maybe 5 years old- how old was yours when it stared blooming?
Ok now I have to grow chives lol! Actually I bought chive seeds and have been meaning to start them anyways. Question did you start your chives from seeds?
At the risk of being exposed… I’ve had Serrano peppers in a bottle for at least 3 years, and I just keep adding vinegar to it. I would think that this would last longer with no fruit in it, even! 🤷🏻♀️
Erin, you are so comfortable on camera, it makes me feel like we are friends just hanging in your kitchen..
100% agree
Yes and I like her voice too, it's like a radio voice
Right, but I wanna hang out in her garden! It does not seem so lo ng ago that those chives were planted.
I so want to try planting some...gotta try it!
I just planted chives for the first time. Now I know what to do with the flowers. Thanks from Ohio.
I watched your video on poppies, and planted some, they are so beautiful, I had no idea they could be so beautiful.
Wow your idea is outstanding. I envy you because it's a self-sufficient life. And thank you for explaining the detailed manual and sharing it with me.🙆♀️❤👍💕
That recipe has my name all over it. Easy and delicious..I’m thinking cucumber salad and some feta..now I’m hungry 😋
The chive blossoms are BEAUTIFUL!
Blue looks great on you! 💙 A little more "chivey"...that is my new word for the weekend, chivey, I love it!
It's delicious and sooo pretty. Makes a lovely present in a pretty bottle with a herby sprig in it and a ribbon around the neck.
I agree ,It color and smell is good
Hello,how are you doing?
Excellent idea! Thanks for sharing! First priority, plant more chives! :)
My chives are done blooming but I will remember this for next year! Thanks for the great idea!
Definitely going to try this. I can just see a bottle of tinted vinegar on the table. A bar pour spout would fit perfectly in those bottles.
Wouldn't that make a great gift... the vinegar in a pretty bottle and the pour spout?!
Thanks Erin, now I have to ask my daughter for her chives, because I want some chive vinegar for my salads. 👍❤️😊
I remember watching this from last year, and guess what?
I enjoyed watching it just as much this time too!
🟣 Let's do this EVERY year!! 🟣
I will try this
How fun and what a good use of spent blooms, thank you for sharing.
loving that climbing hydrangea!!
Great video, thank you for sharing. I'm definitely going to try this!
Darn, I already deadheaded my chives! Oh well, I will definitely try this next time...thanks for the idea!
That’s what I just said! Ugh. Next time! I’ll have everything ready. Hah!
Ditto! Darn, would love to give it a try.

Hello,how are you doing?
That was great! So funny! 😂
I will definitely try chive vinegar! First, I’ll have to grow some chives. Your hydrangea vine is spectacular.
I want more of this easy quick stuff. Love this idea.
Thanks Erin for this great tutorial. What a great gift idea! I inherited a crop of chives when we moved into our home 45 years ago, they are still going strong. A wide-mouth canning funnel is handy for this type of job, filling jars.
Great idea! Mind haven’t blossomed yet.
Erin, I love your channel for the down to earth garden advice and your unique and casually elegant garden style. You also look beautiful on the still for this video!!
Perfect timing! I have lots of chive and society garlic flowers ready to harvest, I think I'll do a batch of each! Thank you!
This is my kinda recipe! Simple and beautiful! So excited to try this out

Thanks for sharing! Just added white wine vinegar to my shopping list, so I can be ready when my chives bloom. I’m in zone 3, so about a month behind.
Wonderful recipe!!! Can't wait to try it!!
Can’t wait to make that after work today !!! Thanks, Erin !!!
Hello,how are you doing?
I started chives in a stackable planter- I’m going to give this a try, thanks Erin!
Vicki Keeler took the words right out of my mouth. You feel like a friend. I loved the two little ditties, one of the pouring rain and the other of the Japanese beetle which I got a good laugh from. You're just so real. You are a favorite person ❣️
Sounds (and looks) YUMMY!!!!!!
Absolutely going to try this. Thrilled that I did not deadhead my chives.
Thank you so much. Spectacular hydrangea.
Darn I just deadheaded mine too! I’ll have to remember this great idea. The chive hedge is so pretty! Great video ☺️
I had so many ants in my flowers, so keep an eye out for that. Thanks for sharing! 😊
I only have two plants so I’ll have to make a small batch but I’ll give it a try. Mine already bloomed once already so I’ll wait for a second bloom.
Now I’m sorry I’m not growing chives , I’ve bought a packet of seeds last year and didn’t plant them and the same this year, no more excuses, I will spread some seeds today, thank you 🙏 for the idea
Perfect timing for me. On things to do list is deadhead chives. Hope blossoms are not too old for flavor. Thank you Erin.
You’re so cute! 🥰 Thanks for the great recipe. I don’t like chives or anything in the onion family, but I know my boss would love it and especially with chives from her own garden.
I bet it does taste great in a salad or potato salad. Thanks for sharing. God bless

I am actually coming up with recipes in my head as ways to use this for vinaigrettes. AWESOME vid, Erin. Thanks for sharing this.
Oh I’m going to try this next year. My chive flowers ended 2 weeks ago. Zone 6b
Interesting, chive vinegar...may have to try it! Thank you for the recipe
I’m gonna try this, thanks!!!
Ooohhh! Definitely going to try this. I saw your chive boarder video and started a bunch from seed. Just waiting for them to bloom now. Yum!!
Cool 😎
Already harvested my chive flowers this year, maybe next year...

Hi Erin! This was really fun and interesting! I want to try this, but I only have one plant. I may have to find room for more. Thank you so much for sharing!
I have done this with left over champagne from New Year's Eve- put it in white wine vinegar. Lovely flavor-
Really,it must have an amazing taste
Hello,how are you doing?
I finished my bottle from last year the day this year's blossoms started to open. Phew! Sooo delicious 🌸
Have a lot of chives so I 'll definitely be doing this. Thanks so much for this video.
Love your videos
Love it! So easy and looks great. I’m trying to figure out with all the useless gadgets I have, why I don’t have a very useful salad spinner. 🤷🏻♀️
Looks great! Ty. Ever used a canning funnel? Makes those jars less fussy to fill. If you feel so inclined. ☺️
So true!
My chives got out of control, so we put them along the border of the garden to stop the lawn from encroaching. Maybe not our best idea... They are wild! Will have to deadhead. Sounds delicious
Dang. I literally just snipped them all and tossed them. Next year!
Love this!
Def trying this - thanks!
This is an awesome idea!
Sounds wonderful!
I’ve made fruit flavored vinegars but never savory. Now I need to head out and see if I can find some chives at the nurseries. Thanks for this great idea for another homemade item to go into a cooking themed gift basket. Erin, you’re the best! 🌿
Marti Hurford just found your reply, I'm on that now. I never heard of fruit vinegars before. I'm you tubing now😊 hello from Cork City Ireland

Learned something today!
Just going to try this looks so good

Lovely idea, I will try planting one for my daughter she love flower
Hello,how are you doing?
Going to have to try this.
Definitely trying this!
Chive blossom vinegar is my favorite of infused vinegars. I also do thyme blossom and lemon balm infused vinegar.
How on earth do you save thyme blossoms? They are so tiny!!!
Looks great!
Definitely need to up my game on vinegar and oils. I have hedges, more like drifts or waves, of garlic chives that bloom late summer. Not as pretty, but I think I’ll make a go of it for the flavor. And , catch the the spring season chives on the next go around.

Best things are the simplest
What is the shelf life for this once you've finished fermenting and straining?
It’s vinegar so a LONG time. I’ve used mine 9 months later (and then my stash runs out). Because I’m always paranoid about preserved food and offering advice on it, I’d suggest also looking for a university extension guide on vinegars just to be sure.
thanks Erin for the video i am going to make this. Love your channel!
Hi Erin, What a great video, thank you. Can the chive plants grow all summer long?
Note: Plant more chives next year. Also remember where I put my oxo salad spinner.
Thanks for the recipe Erin, I’ll be making it this year. Quick question, I have a climbing hydrangea that is doing well but has never bloomed. It’s maybe 5 years old- how old was yours when it stared blooming?
Not Erin but my climbing hydrangea was almost 10 years old before it bloomed.
@@southerncharmed4118 thanks,
Ok now I have to grow chives lol! Actually I bought chive seeds and have been meaning to start them anyways. Question did you start your chives from seeds?
Sorry that I just pruned my chives. 😒 when they rebloom, I’m tryin this
What is the plant with the huge leaves sort of between and in front of the peony and weigela?
Do you store your chive vinegar in a cubbard or refrigerator?
Question: will this vinegar “keep” for months? I’m thinking Christmas gifts 🎁
At the risk of being exposed… I’ve had Serrano peppers in a bottle for at least 3 years, and I just keep adding vinegar to it. I would think that this would last longer with no fruit in it, even! 🤷🏻♀️
Hi I made this last year but the vinegar went bad. I suspect the flowers weren't completely dry- should I try dehydrating to dry completely?
👌✨👍
Enjoyed the video thank you ( u k )
Peony looks like Festiva Maxima
😳🤯😋👍🏼
Why not eat the flowers? I make this and leave the flowers in vinegar.
You certainly can! I just don’t care for the texture of them after they’ve been soaking for a long time.
any aphids would get pickled anyway....I would have died rather than eat bugs when I was younger, but when you work so hard for produce, you eat it!
✋🏻I just NEED to know where I can buy that shirt please 🧄
Grayson, but a few years ago (they last forever). I only saw solids this year in linen but maybe they’ll add more plaids later.
