This song has truly inspired me, my soul has begun to stir in excitement and joy at this extremely fantastic celebration of all that is Tyne and Wear Metro. I can only hope a sequel is made.
i was part of metro the musical and I am very proud of what we done it was a lot of hard work and long hours I would do it all over again it was one of the best things I have done
i was in this film, had a great time and the after party was better (although i thought there was a buffet but there was not) i had no tea in expectation, some of the girls were pretty
i realy don't understand why people are hating on this so much. it's fun, positive and shows a community's celebration for a public service. it's definitely not the sort of music i'd pay to listen to but that's really not the point is it? well done everyone involved : )
People should remember this was made with local people who have worked really hard and put a lot of effort in to this. We should be proud of them and proud of this fantastic video. It's great for the North East AND it raises money for Children in Need with the sale of the DVDs! To the haters: give us your ideas of how to celebrate the north east.
An article about this metro in my Spring 2022 issue of Jacobin Magazine brought me here. Most excellent! Kudos to all from a Yank in the American Southwest!
Took me a few rewatches to notice this, but if you listen closely to where they all sing together, there actually singing the station names (Byker, cullercoats, north sheilds, Whitley Bay, etc. EDIT: whilst watching the credits, it says: GAFFER Tony Cook For those who don’t know, gaffer is a north eastern slang for ‘boss’
I remember 8 years ago my mom sended me this video when I was 5 because she knew how much I love the Tyne and wear metro such good memories back then. It's great to revisit this video again it gives me a sense of nostalgia of the 2010s good times😎
I'm looking for clarification about the story about Chelsea. Did her mate give the guard person Chelsea's name even though it wasn't even Chelsea at all? Or did Chelsea give her mate's name? Or did Chelsea give her OWN name? This prays on my mind a lot, anyone who knows more about this naughty Nexus secret, I'd love to hear from you.
I trust in the year since you wrote this post, you have found out the answer to the Naughty Nexus Secret. If you haven't allow me, as the writer, to ride in on my silver horse to save the day and give you peace of mind when you sleep at night. The lass singing is NOT Chelsea. Chelsea is her mate, and when the lass singing was stopped on the Metro for not having a ticket, she gave the guard Chelsea's name instead of her own. Chelsea then got into trouble. Horrifying. I can feel your shock. Basically it's tantamount to crying witchcraft... "I saw Goody Proctor with the devil..." Never tell me Metro the Musical isn't imbued with dark, brooding truths about life. Like Cathy Come Home on speed.
I honestly don't understand what all the annoyance is over. I was an exchange student in the Sunderland for about a week and absolutely loved it. It was so much better than America, and the disposition of the people was so much more welcoming that what it is here in America. I honestly don't see the embarrassment, this is awesome!
I would love to see any of you lot try and do a better job! I took part in this, and I'm very proud to say that I did. So many people from the North East put in an unbelievable amount of effort to show people that this is what the North East is; a great place full of great people. If you all think you can do better, don't just sit on your keyboard leaving negative comments to us. Get up and do something, if not please be quiet and take your negativity elsewhere.
i remember my mom showed this to me as a kid I loved it thats how I always loved taking the tyne and wear metro cuz the song was too inspiring for me as a kid
1980 A year of unemployment and cold war darkness 1980 And England emerging from winters of harshness The idea of disco was done, disco was done A computerised age had begun And in the North East corner of Britain (translated) 1980 An exciting new chapter had been carefully written 1980 The future arrived on a hot day in August, with a new bridge over the tyne. All of the colours and geometric lights intertwined underneath in a cornered black and yellow sign.
I am watching this and wishing that I could have been there to take part. It has the thumbs up from me. OK then, I wonder if Benjamin Till would like to try something similar for Manchester Metrolink.
This is the best video I have ever seen. I thought Michael Jackson's videos were great but now I've seen this, I'm amazed. I cannot believe this isn't getting played on all the satellite TV channels all over the world. Doesn't MTV know about this? The music does remind of the eighties. So much great music then like The Nolans and Saxon, The Goombay Dance Band. I'd love Benjamin Till to export some British class from the UK to places where they know nothing about music like Russia.
M-M-M- M-M-Metro. Aight, Imma be straight: I do not get what people are on about saying this is cringe or traumatic. Like maybe there's something cultural that didn't quite translate on my viewing-I'll admit that I didn't catch like half the words, excuse this ESL-but I think this is just a fun anthem and tribute to a piece of presumably useful public infrastructure, which frankly I wouldn't mind all that much we have more of.
I loved this. It's wonderfully put together and I loved the evocative composition. It made me laugh with its tongue in cheek humour and made me cry because I was so moved by the commitment of the extraordinary people who featured in the film. This is a true community project and everyone involved should be very proud.
Who else came here from @PhilosophyTube ?✌ Watching this from Sweden and enjoying every bit! This is what public service tv is for
Literally, and I spent my semester abroad/Erasmus+ in Sunderland back in 2016! :D

Hi to all the folks comin' here from Abigail's Philosophy Tube video.
The cultural impact this has had can't be denied - no joke a literal masterpiece.
This will have a surge of views very soon thanks to Abigail ❤️
I hope so! My friend was in this
It's like smoking, I'm pretty sure it's giving me cancer but I can't help coming back to watch it

Brilliant.

I was part of the production team in this project. I must say I'm very proud of how it's turned out.

This gives the Coventry Market song a run for its money. The BBC really had a sweet idea with these local social history musicals!
So moving, with everyone giving their utmost and, most of all, the genius that is the music of Ben Till.

Back again. I love how the lyrics for this song were released under the freedom of information act. Now I know what the choir bit is!
