I joined my local swordfighting club and there is a mace wielder role so I picked it, I had no idea how much more lethal than I thought it already was. Although it is softcombat we still do like we get damaged or hurt like roleplay.
*how do I contact the history Channel about being on the show I'm a big guy and I've always wanted to do this I in Hema already. Guys please help me out.*
I’d wager more. Armor will protect you from a sword, a blunt weapon will turn your armor against you. Not to mention bones will be shattered, organs ruptured, all kinds of internal hemorrhage. Blunt force trauma wounds are a lot harder to treat and the victims may never fully recover from them either. It’s easier to heal from cut or a stab, not so much from being turned into a mash potato.
@@DaddyHensei Not so long ago i found a 1170-1180 priest manscript about a battle in nowadays France where an important nobleman was hit in the middle of the chest making him stumble and fall dead ( he might have suffered such an impact tah his heart stopped working right there )

does nobody realize that a mace is a single handed weapon used with a shield? a mace is a weapon that can kill even the best armored knight with a single hit do the head even with a helmet its basically a can opener for mediaval knights
12 century weapon... armpieces and gauntlets..... No, just no. Gauntlets and armpieces diden't excist yet this thing would be contending with full mail, gambeson and helemets. Sow the weight of your mail sleeves and mittons would be behind it.
(I've changed my opinion) two handed maces did exist in the form of morning stars and we have museum pieces and art depicting them, but weren't as common as one-handed ones. However, full steel two handed maces were used in India and much more prominently in later centuries rather than the middle ages. Plus, poleaxes and warhammers did exist in medieval Europe so why not use those instead of coming up with that thing? (Changed my opinion on this too, as using a poleaxe in a competition is going to be deadlier than using a mace, no matter if it's blunted or not) Sorry for being ignorant guys.

That mace could still cause concussions even if you have a helmet.
Majority of armored fighters used maces cause blades wouldn't do much to plate
That mace could fracture a skull even if it had a helmet for protection.

That’s what they’re designed for.

open wounds with sharp weapons are deadly and serious but in overall a blunt weapon is as effective if not more.
