The movie that put Lou Diamond on the map is "La Bamba". He did a fantastic job playing the role of Ritchie Valens. Tragic true story. So envious that you met the man.
You should definitely watch Young Guns II. I think they're both equally great movies for different reasons. I really think you would enjoy it as much as this one. I kind of view Billy not completely a psychopath but more of a loose cannon that kind of enjoys the thrill of going up against the odds and coming out alive. He's definitely has a huge ego and doesn't mind killing at all. From what I know of this portrayal of Billy in both part I and part II. He does value friendship and is very loyal to the few he would call his friends. He's really just very reckless and incapable of making the most logical decisions I think. I'm not sure who I would pick as my favorite character in this movie but Chavez is definitely the most sympathetic and relatable. I actually got to meet Lou Diamond Phillips at a comic con here in my home city. He was super nice and willing to have a nice conversation with anyone who came to his table. I also got to ask him a question about a 90's horror movie he made called the First Power. Most of the questions people were asking were questions about Young Guns so I thought I'd mix it up a bit. In any case I loved your reaction as always Madison and I really hope you react to Young Guns II very soon.
There was a time, a mythical time when you could randomly shout out "Regulators!" and somebody and usually several somebodies would invariably shout back "Mount up!"
Hey Madison, remember the likeable young girl Janey from Lonesome Dove who was killed by Blue Duck? That was Nina Seimaszko. Her brother is Casey, who played Charlie the pugilist in this movie! Random, I know, but I couldn't help it.
Back in the early 1980's Emilio Estevez, Charlie Sheen older brother, was one of the biggest names among young actors. This movie had Emilio in the lead role with the string of up and comings, billed as the next generation of stars. "TAPS" and "Red Dawn" were also billed as a cast of up and comings stars. They all were.
"Chisum" is a John Wayne movie that's another version of The Lincoln County Wars. John Chisum was a wealthy cattle baron that owned most of New Mexico, was one of the founders of Lincoln, and had been an ally of Tunstall and McSween. The character of John Chisum does make a brief appearance in Young Guns 2, played by James Coburn.
Love this movie! I remember watching this and YOUNG GUNS 2 on CBS in 1995. Historians have said that this is the most accurate portrait of Billy The Kid they ever seen.
In the actual history, during the Gunfight at Blazer's Mill, Richard "Dick" Brewer wasn't shot in the chest by Andrew L. "Buckshot" Roberts, he was shot right through the eye. Roberts was shot in the stomach by Charlie Bowdre during the gunfight and died the next day from his injuries. Buckshot Roberts and Dick Brewer were both buried side by side near the house where the gunfight occurred.
Buckshot wanted no part of the war but since he use to ride with Murphy's men he knew he would be implemented if he stayed around so he sold his house and was coming to town to collect his money. The regulators heard about it and came after him. He refused to surrender knowing they would kill him if he did. The movie actually tamed down what actually happened. In real life no only did he kill dick but he wounded 4 other regulators. Doc's and chavez's injuries were potrayed
This is one of my most favourites movies of all time. I was 14 I think…and I was so excited to see both brothers together… Emilio is one my all time Billy the Kid portrayal…hands down.
I'm glad you're on the road to recovery 😊. Waay back in late 80's, I met Lou Diamond while he (and Kiefer Sutherland) were filming "Renegades" in the back streets of my hometown, Toronto. He was taller than I expected Lol.
Putting a plug in for the Civil War era Western, Ride with the Devil (1999) with Toby Maguire, Skeet Ulrich, Jewel, directed by Ang Lee. It's an under appreciated Western, great story. My favorite modern Western.
In the actual history of the Battle of Lincoln in 1878, Billy the Kid obviously did not hide inside of a trunk that was tossed from the second story window, as the McSween house was an L-shaped one story house. Instead, Billy led the Regulators out of the back door and into a hailstorm of bullets, where he managed to shoot his way out of the house and escape without so much as a scratch. The trunk gimmick was still a good idea, though. 😂
@@44excalibur The tv series, Billy the Kid, (who knows if its coming back since it stayed off in season 2A) is following the real story a little better but still taking liberties with story telling. There are a ton of Regulators in the show which makes it harder to get used to any. also the story is all about Billy so they don't really get into any of the extra characters. Chavez was introduced in last episode of Season 2A. I keep waiting to hear news of 2B. It's currently in the middle of the Lincoln County Wars and looks like it's leading to the McSween house fight. The entire first season was Billy's back story.
Great insightful reaction again. You really can't leave it at reacting to Young Guns without doing the sequel which I find is highly entertaining. Lou Diamond Philips, Emilio Estevez and Kiefer Sutherland reprise their roles along with the addition of several more prominent actors.

The "It means nothing to me" speech by Lou Diamond Phillips is fantastic acting. But he's great in everything. Check him out in Young Guns II, Courage Under Fire and La Bomba. Did you see the size of that chicken? 🐔
You need to put the movie, "Hidalgo" on your watch list. The story of Frank Hopkins and his horse Hidalgo. Some absolutely great performances by the horses. Frank Hopkins was an advocate and one of the main reasons we still have wild herds of mustangs. Also the movie "The Outlaw Josey Wales", is a must watch.
Billy’s speech about testing yourself really made an impact on me when I was growing up. I had a moment when I was complacent with my own abilities and was so sure I could handle whatever came my way. Boy was I wrong. Pushing yourself to stay strong is necessary.
Nice, Madison. I remember this in theatres in '88. I afterwards bought the "Young Gun" Movies on VHS, back in the day. Must've watched this one 100 times, at least. Thank you ma'am for this little reminder of days gone by. Big shoutout from this old boy in Gatlinburg, Tennessee. Still liking your style. See ya on the next. Much peace, love, and happiness to you and yours. Go with God. Later.

William H. Bonney, alias "Billy the Kid," was actually born Henry McCarty in September or November of 1859 to Catherine and Patrick McCarty in New York City. His younger brother, Joseph McCarty, was born in 1863. Following the death of her husband, Catherine McCarty and her sons moved to Indianapolis, Indiana, where she met William Henry Harrison Antrim. They moved with Antrim to Wichita, Kansas in 1870, and then to New Mexico, where Catherine married Antrim in 1873, and Joseph took Antrim's surname. After Catherine's death from tuberculosis in 1874, William Antrim abandoned her sons, leaving Henry (Billy) and his younger brother orphans when Henry was only 14 years old.
Lou Diamond Phillips is a local guy. He grew up in the first town south of me, Corpus Christi. I've met him a couple of times back when we were in high school.
I'm somewhat of a Billy the Kid history nerd, myself. You are so right, Billy wasn't your typical outlaw. His circumstances were much more grey than some guy breaking the law strictly for monetary gain. Anyway, great reaction and I'm so subscribed! Tc!
You met Lou Diamond Phillips?! 😃 You have to watch Stand and Deliver (1988). It probably wouldn't win in a poll, but I'd love to see your reaction to it.

Great reaction! From what I've seen you are one of most genuine reactors out there. On another note, I know you know all about Billy and Jesse, but I would suggest looking into Wild Bill Hickok as well, I'm sure you'd find it interesting.
Tom Cruise was there, but not as Charlie Crawford. If I remember right, they used makeup and facial hair to hide his face. You can freeze frame and see that Charlie Crawford is definitely not Tom.
Another Billy The Kid movie, sort of is a movie called Chisum (1970), starring John Wayne, Ben Johnson and Forrest Tucker as Murphy. It's more about John Wayne's character but Billy The Kid is part of it and so is Pat Garrett. By the way, Pat Garrett, here. was played by John Wayne's son, Patrick Wayne. There is a sequel to this movie, Young Guns 2, starring Emilio Estevez, Kiefer Sutherland and Lou Diamond Phillips reprising their roles as well as William F. Young Guns is such a good one. Ive watched this and the second one so many times. I kindof like the second one better but both are good ones. Definitely worth watching the second movie.
Ok! One more piece of trivia. If you look at the credits, the first thing it says before anything else is something to the effect of special guest star as Pat Garret, Patrick Wayne. John Wayne's second eldest son. Before I even got into John Wayne, I knew him from a western I use to see on Saturday morning TV called "An Eye For An Eye". He was obviously in 7 or 8 of his dad's movies, and had an OK career otherwise. I always liked him!
Hi, just found your channel and subbed just because of the Lou Diamond Phillips story at the start. It’s great to know he’s a nice guy as he was a favourite actor of mine growing up but It’s unlikely that I will get a chance to meet as I’m from the U.K.

Great reaction Madison like always this movie is so good to underrated, did you know that Tom Cruise have a cameo in this movie? Tom Cruise: the fourth person shot when Charlie (Casey Siemaszko) bursts out the house shooting, at around 1:39:18. Cruise was on set one day, and the director thought it would be great to get him on the movie. And there are some fun facts abou this movie, Did you know that it’s not just Billy The Kid that Emilio Estevez plays in Young Guns? In the final shoot out, when Estevez was not needed to play Billy, he dressed as a bad guy and so was shooting for the other side at times in the film. And in the scene when Billy is in the bath and Doc is taking down a letter than Billy is dictating, they wanted it to look like Billy was making it up on the spot and so cue cards were used by crew out of shot to deliver the lines to Estevez to read, and contrary to the occurrences in the movie, “Dirty” Steve Stephens did not die during the Lincoln County War. Following the war, he survived and relocated, he said he was going to Denver, Colorado, but after this point he simply vanishes from history so no-one actually knows what happened to him or where his final resting place is. Keep up the amazing work.
Kiefer and Charlie Sheen both appear in Disney Three Musketeers. Kiefer plays Athos and Charlie plays Armias. Oliver Platt plays Porthos in the Dumas story.
Thank you Madison for your outstanding reactions! I so enjoy seeing, and listening to your reactions to some of my all-time favorite movies. Young Guns was one of those movies that captured my teenage imagination of what Billy The Kid and the Old West was like. Watching your reaction was wonderful as I realized that this great movie still has the power to transport me back to the very first time I saw it.
"Come to me, Son of Jor-El! Kneel before Zod!" Oh, wait, wrong movie. My bad! :) Great reaction as always, Madison. YG2 has to come next for sure. And for more LDPh, I see La Bamba being recommended and I can only agree with that. Looking forward to the next one. :)
In high school, my class went on a field trip to a ranch for horseback riding. And there was one part where the staff asked if anyone wanted to race back to the stables. I didn't want to, but my horse did. Luckily I didn't fall off, but my butt took a beating😆. I'm glad to hear you are recovering well.
Another Epic Star Studded Western is The Long Riders it stars the Keach brothers the Quaid brothers the Carradine brothers and I believe there’s also a couple more brothers but it’s been such a long time since I’ve seen it. Great, great movie.
First of all I'm sorry to hear about your horse riding accident. Hopefully you are on the mend. You got to meet Lou Diamond Phillips, that is beyond awesome. Definitely one of Hollywood's most underrated actors. Also thank you for reacting to this movie. Emilio Estevez, Lou Diamond Phillips and Kiefer Sutherland at their absolute best.
Since you're really into Westerns, thought I'd recommend a really good, under the radar one called, "Appaloosa". Stars Ed Harris and co-stars Viggo Mortensen (and narrates too). 🤠🐴
"Charlie Sheen" & "Emilio Estevez" are actual brothers from a famous family of actors. "Martin Sheen" aka Ramon Estevez is their Father & he's been a famous American actor since the 1960's,
Emilio Estevez is probably most known for his role as the Jock in the Breakfast Club. He is also Charlie Sheen's brother, Emilio taking his father's real surname and Charlie taking his stage name. Their father is Martin Sheen.
Groaning up in New Mexico I’ve always been fascinated by Billy the Kid. I agree with you on how I see Billy vs Jesse James. Interestingly my gf’s great, great grandfather was Sheriff William Brady. Great reaction as always.
Just so you know, Charlie wanted to be held by the prostitute because that was meant to be his mother. Sidenote, Tom Cruise plays one of the posse members that Dirty Steve kills when they try leave McSween's house.
Madison, sorry I am late to this party, but glad I got to see your reaction, great movie! Great cast!! Buckshot Roberts was played by the great Brian Keith, and Pat Garrett, was played by Patrick Wayne,John Wayne's oldest son, can't wait to see your reaction to young guns II, that's a great follow up, love Longmire as well!! Makes me want re-watch that series, glad your recovery is going well, hope you'll be back in the saddle soon, take care!!😊😊
According to Lou Diamond Phillips, Casey Siemaszko, and Dermott Mulroney, in the scenes where anyone in the cast was shown with blood on their faces, the blood was actually strategically placed to hide adolescent acne pimples. 😂
Longmire is so good. Have watched it a few times. Henry is definitely my favorite character. I was going to suggest it as a series to react to if you hadn’t seen it.
Lou Diamond Phillips' signature role is definitely as Ritchie Valens in La Bamba(1987). His role here as Chavez in Young Guns and Young Guns II is definitely way up there for him though, probably 2nd only to La Bamba. I would say Billy the Kid is definitely Emilio Esteves' signature role though.
The smirk on Billy's face after Charlie said, "Kill somebody?"...supposedly, the "somebody" was Frank Cahill, a blacksmith Billy killed in August of 1877. The story goes that Cahill was mercilessly taunting Billy and the taunting turned into a physical assault. Billy got the drop on Cahill and that's what led to him being on the run. Before this came out, I thought westerns were boring. This made them fun. We saw all these guys in other cool roles, so we couldn't wait to see them tackle an action-packed western. The western-tinged 80s rock soundtrack added to the vibe.
The movie that put Lou Diamond on the map is "La Bamba". He did a fantastic job playing the role of Ritchie Valens. Tragic true story. So envious that you met the man.
Stand and Deliver (1988)
“It’s another beautiful day at the Red Pony Bar and continual soiree.” 😂
La Bamba put him on the map
And Lou Diamond Phillips is of Filipino decent & not Indian/Mexican at all.
Exactly 💯

I've broken lots of bones including 2 big toes.the big toe is more painful than many much bigger bones! You have my sympathy. ❤
Dropped a round of cherry firewood (very dense and heavy) on my bare big toe once in the middle of the night. Took over a year to heal.
Young Guns II is also a great movie. A movie about Jesse James The Long Riders. A movie about the James/Younger gang
Outstanding reaction video 👍 📹
You'll love "Young guns 2"
Another Epic Star Studded Western is The Long Riders it stars the Keach brothers the Quaid brothers the Carradine brothers and I believe there’s also a couple more brothers but it’s been such a long time since I’ve seen it. Great, great movie.
The Guest brothers are in it as well.
Emilio and Charlie are actually brothers. In case you didn't know 😊
Young Guns 2 is also very good and definitely worth a watch the next chance you get to make an "executive decision" reaction ;).
I love this movie! One of my all time favorites!
Plus a neat cameo by Tom Cruise during the end shootout!
Wishing you a speedy recovery..
I love this movie. You should watch part 2
Pat Garrett was played by John Wayne's son Patrick Wayne.
The first role I seen Lou Diamond Phillips play was as Ritchie Valens in La Bamba.
I love that Tom Cruise cameo.
the sequel really examines his end and possible survival, as a proud texan, i like to believe he actually died much older in hico texas.
Since you're really into Westerns, thought I'd recommend a really good, under the radar one called, "Appaloosa". Stars Ed Harris and co-stars Viggo Mortensen (and narrates too). 🤠🐴
Far better book. Best author ever.
"Charlie Sheen" & "Emilio Estevez" are actual brothers from a famous family of actors.
"Martin Sheen" aka Ramon Estevez is their Father & he's been a famous American actor since the 1960's,
Interesting nugget…the real Tunstall was only a few years older than Billy.
9:51 is my dad’s favorite scene for some reason, my mom just keeps telling me it’s because of how he laughs😂
Emilio Estevez is probably most known for his role as the Jock in the Breakfast Club. He is also Charlie Sheen's brother, Emilio taking his father's real surname and Charlie taking his stage name. Their father is Martin Sheen.
Coach Gordon Bombay of the Mighty Ducks.
Groaning up in New Mexico I’ve always been fascinated by Billy the Kid. I agree with you on how I see Billy vs Jesse James. Interestingly my gf’s great, great grandfather was Sheriff William Brady. Great reaction as always.
Young guns II gets into the legend part of the story
You must watch ..The Big Country...its a long western movie ...1958...with great actors and performance..classic
Just so you know, Charlie wanted to be held by the prostitute because that was meant to be his mother. Sidenote, Tom Cruise plays one of the posse members that Dirty Steve kills when they try leave McSween's house.
Glad you are recovering. Young Guns with Emilio Estevez is a great Western. This was a range war between the Irish and the English carpetbaggers.
This one of my top 10 favorite movies ever!
Healing prayers for you 🙏❤p s my favorite Western is Young guns and probably my favorite Lou diamond Phillips movie will be La Bamba
One of my favorite movies, hope you're feeling better after the accident. By the way love the Zelda shirt.
Young Guns II.....
just as good.
Lou was great in La Bamba (1987), Stand and Deliver (1988) and Courage Under Fire (1996)
Grew up on this film I no the script off by heart I watched this over 100times
This FILM is actually very close to the historically accurate! Basically covered to highlights (BATTLES) of the Lincoln County War.
You should watch Young Guns 2
I loved your story about meeting Lou Diamond. This is such a good movie 👍
Lou was in another movie with Kiefer called Renegades, it's a pretty good movie
I keep telling you guys, The Quick and the Dead is the one ya wanna watch.
Man, I love this movie.
