    Such beautiful footage! My dad kept Oscars when I was little. They were big and derpy lovebugs....until the live feedings. They were pretty stealth and quite fast. Never a trace of "food" left! I remember them always rearranging the tank. It drove my mom nuts 😁

    Jason,
    I love both fish. I have a AC Heckalai that is in my 55 gal tank and a GEOphagus Steindachneri in my 55 gal tank. Both are super cool. I just recently finally picked up a black Tiger oscar with a little bit of red spots on his body. He is so cute and very active. He is growing out in my 55 gal planted tank with the geos right now. HE is only about 1in to 2 inches. I just upgraded my big aquarium to a 5 ft tank well over 100 gals of water. The oscar is going to move into that tank when he's big enough to join the tank mates. I have been wanting an oscar for so long and I only had a 4 ft tank and it was 98 gals. It wasn't big enough or did i feel comfortable putting an oscar in that tank. It may have worked it was a taller tank but i felt like it would be cramped. I waited till I got a 5ft acrylic tank and it has built in filtration in the back of it. So everything is hidden i don't have to worry about the oscar knocking heaters and other things around and possibly breaking something. The filtration is almost like a Sump except it's in the back vs underneath. Have you had tanks like that before? It has plenty of places to stick bio media and filter sponges. The big pump pulls the water through all the chambers. I guess like a sump would. Appreciate this video and like I said I love both of them.

    I have always loved Oscars. Had a 12 inch albino tiger oscar named Chucky that was the ultimate water dog. I miss that guy. Could hand feed him. He'd get excited when you would come over to the tank. You could get close to the tank and open your mouth and it'd piss him off and he'd bow up on you in kind. lol. But he'd never attack you if you had to put your hand into the tank. He'd just wait till you were done and then go about his business. I've never seen any other species of fish be so interactive with people. Hope to one day have a spot large enough to put a large enough tank to keep an oscar or 3. Right now i'm down to just a single nano tank.

    Just from appearance, I love both. The water puppy personality of the Oscars is so rewarding and endearing. But because of their size I am unable to care for one appropriately:(
    I am drawn to the Geophagus and the Topajos are a wonderful option. I am able to provide a good environment for mine in a 75 gallon.

    As a Geophagus enjoyer, I like the fact that most of them are quite calm compared to other medium sized cichlids and that I can keep them with comparatively small and peaceful fish. Oscars have much more personality, though. Someday I would love to do both in a 300+ gallon lol

    Beautiful fish that big dark red one. dont like the idea of keeping large fish. They just deserve at minimum a pond in my eyes but that's just me. I wouldn't want to be stuck in my living room for my whole life😅. Do they just not swim alot or fast?

    I have several red head tapajos. love them! I always wanted an Oscar. I have a 125g 6’ tank I am setting up. I have considered an Oscar but it doesn’t seem big enough for a 12” fish. The 72 length seems fine but 18” width for that big fish seems small. What do you think?

    I can't go bigger, but my tiger Oscar seems okay in my 55. I'd love a five foot tank one day, but I already have seven tanks running. Great combo video. Thanks

    Oscars have always been one of my favorite fish on Earth. Both their looks and behaviors are spectacular. However, they need A LOT of space, which I don’t have. So, I have 2 angels and a blue acara in a 55g, which are also amazing. And for personality, I have actual dogs! 😆

    I'm an Oscar guy. I've basically had one in my home since 1985. I'm not saying I always kept them in the greatest of situation, especially early on in my fish keeping adventures, but I have had at least one. I just can't NOT fall in love with their little personalities.

    I’ve recently taken on 7 small fire mouth cichlids. Would they be happy in a 75 gallon long term ? I’m hoping to create some mating pairs but also worried about he consequences on the other firemouth and clown loaches I have. I will be getting a larger tank for my clown loaches eventually but I was wondering if there is a benefit to buying a group of firemouth

    • @PrimeTimeAquatics
      @PrimeTimeAquatics  7 місяців тому +1

      I had a group of Thorichthys maculipinis in a 75 (like a firemouth) with no issues. If they start pairing up it might start getting a little crowded though.

      @@PrimeTimeAquatics exactly my thoughts . it’s mainly my 10 clown loaches in the 75 tank so I prepare to upgrade the tank size years down the line. But regardless, I have the fire mouth in a grow out quarantining now. - just wanted to make sure it’s a safer for my loaches to integrate FM into my main established tank.

    I have a pair, one black one albino, I had to split them up because the albino was hogging all the food and thus grew to twice the size of the black tiger, so now I have one in with my African cichlids, the larger albino. and the other I kept with my sharks because he was so much smaller and was still swimming end to end up and down, but for sure do not keep Oscar’s and iredescent sharks together, if they are the right size they can’t harm eachother really but the sharks spook easy and are missiles! They won’t harm you or anything else but they can harm themselves. This being said I’m in the middle of moving the sharks to a much larger forever home

    Love both these fish but Oscars are too big of a headache to deal with personality and maintenance wise. I have a saltwater tank in addition to my 55G freshwater tank and the saltwater tank keeps me busy enough trying to keep it clean and inhabitable for my fish and inverts(Saltwater is way better than freshwater when it comes to inverts). I like Geos a lot but I have settled on Angels as my centerpiece(s) because I think they mesh well with my Wild and active Turquoise Rainbows(who have put themselves at the top of my list of favorites now that I’ve put me a few in my tank). Plus my Black Neons are plump(in a good healthy way) and I don’t worry about losing them to Angels. Geos are astonishing and when I eventually do get another freshwater tank(a bigger one at that) they are on my list to keep. Always love videos and ideas for fish you give! Along with Joanna and John and Lisa I feel in heaven when I buy fish and see your guys’ advice and knowledge come to life in my experiences. I only tend to lose due to circumstances beyond my control anymore and not my own stupidity! As always thanks!
