- On a breezy but fine Spring day, we went on our Annual trip up to the Vale of Rheidol between Aberystwyth and Devil's Bridge in Mid Wales.
The loco running today is Ex GWR No9 Prince of Wales masquerading as GWR 1213. In the First clip we see the 12.30 Devil's Bridge to Aberystwyth passing through the tranquil Station of Nantyronen, and again passing through the crossing at Llanbadarn. Finally, we see the 14.00 service from Aberystwyth crossing the River Bridge at Llanbadarn Fawr on it's way to devil's Bridge.
Ah, a Steam fix....Great video our Bob...Looks like You had a good time Filming there...1213 looks very smart. A most enjoyable watch....Best wishes...Steve.-:)
We enjoy our Annual visit to this Line Steve, a different livery on the locos every year, coupled with stunning scenery...it's magical...Best wishes...Bob
What a great looking little engine Bob. A beautiful setting for the journey. Top filming. Mike.
Thanks Mike, the Countryside is so beautiful at the moment, and we try and do this trip every Easter Holiday...Regards....Bob
Excellent video Bob, very enjoyable. It's been many a year since I last visited the VOR. Regards, Dave.
Thanks Dave, you must visit again, it's a wonderful line...Bob
Lovely video to watch Bob. The loco looks & sounds superb. Geraint
Thanks Ger, this was a new livery for me, but they are always changing the liveries, which makes for interesting captures...Hope you're fully recovered now...Regards...Bob
Thanks Bob, getting there seeing Consultant in a months time, hopefully then I can wash my hair! Geraint
Very scenic line Bob and well captured to show it off at its best - hope you and your good lady enjoyed the day out! Best wishes. Ken
It's stunning up there Ken, especially at this time of year, and thanks for your kind comments...Regards...Bob
This railway is one of my favourites lovely scenery,I filmed on this railway for a week on Super 8 film,I called the film Whistling Valley, you can hear why as the train blows his whistle coming into Nantyronen, the echo goes on for ever.I had to laugh at one of the engine crew trying to get in the film at 3.36 as a long arm and hand waves over the cab roof.Great video Bob.......Best wishes Chris.
Thanks Chris, it's become a regular event for us over the Easter Period to make a trip up to Aberystwyth, to see the VOR and it never disappoints....You must visit again, it's well worth it ...Best wishes...Bob
Superb video Bob. Nice to see the engine in sparkling condition . Great selection of locations. Hope you had a great day. Best wishes C&A
Last minute as always C&A....but it was a wonderful sight crossing the bridge at Llanbadarn Fawr I must say..Regards...Bob
Great bridge shot, thanks Bob!
My pleasure Earle, glad you enjoyed it....Bob
Great one to visit again Bob .. nice footage .. Dave
We try and visit on an Easter time Dave, as the countryside is amazing....and with the ever changing liveries it's always a great surprise to see what turns up....Bob
Excellent capture and editing Bob!
Thanks again Rich, it's a wonderful little Railway and well worth a visit...Bob
Hi Robert. nice video from you and the landscape is wonderful Bosse
Hello Bosse, once again thanks you for watching my work, and I am delighted you have enjoyed it...Best wishes from Wales...Bob
Good shots Bob, especially the one crossing the river bridge
Thanks Austin, I had looked at the width of the track over the bridge, but was surprised how much wider that the coaches the loco was, but a great day out as always...Bob
Another very good video from you, yes, very nice to watch.
Thanks again for your kindness, which is greatly appreciated....Bob
Lovely scenes form a superb railway Bob. My Brother is going to Aberystwyth soon for a couple of days and is going to visit this railway but unfortunately i cannot join him. I will get there sometime though i am sure. Regards, Jeff.
Thanks very much Jeff, it's a wonderful line, but make sure he sits on the left hand side out of Aberystwyth, that's the side for the Best views....Regards...Bob
Will definitely have to visit the Vale of Rheidol when I take a trip to the UK.
This is one of Several Great Little Trains of Wales, all Narrow Gauge and very different in Character....Thanks for watching....Bob
Many thanks Bob....excellent videography as usual! The VoR is in fine fettle isn't it? I last rode on it during BR ownership in the 1960s when it was looking a little run down as BR lost interest (that part of Wales was 'dry' on Sunday's unless you had access to the staff member only railway club in Aber'!). Nowadays the railway looks very much loved...thanks for the up-date. Rob.
Hello Rob, you're right, both the locos and the stock are a credit to the Line, and are always spotless no matter when you visit. I often see the crews cleaning the loco at Devil's Bridge before returning to Aber. Regards...Bob
Great opening shot! Never done this line - must make an effort
Stunning Welsh scenery, steep gradients and unique locomotives, what more could you ask for...Bob
Very good Bob, last time I was there it was BR , You have seen my slides ...Dave
Thanks Dave, this was the last BR steam to run in this Country....Bob
Hi Bob , that's right. thanks for reply .Dave
very nice Bob, that is an interesting bridge there, all wood, must have been built to last a while.
Thanks David, it's a beautiful Railway with fantastic scenery.....Bob
I'd not seen much in the way of footage from this line before, Bob - very pretty!
It's a wonderful Railway Chris, with stunning views along the route....The last Steam Service operated by British Railways, even the locos were in BR Blue with the Arrows logo....Bob
I recall seeing a photo from the BR blue period with one of the steam locos in that livery - very strange!
She looks very nice with that repaint. I do wonder why they took the nameplates off in the interests of historical accuracy though; surely there could be no one who'd object to the name 'Prince of Wales'?
I was taken by surprise Andrei, as I wasn't aware of the re-paint. In all fairness to the Railway, they try and change the engine liveries every year which gives plenty of variety from just a few locos....Bob
