They're amazing, yeah. I've seen em twice now. The first show was prior to Spirit of Ecstasy, and it was a more "traditional" set, while, at the more recent one, they played the most insane set I think they could've conjured. Lots of new songs and they picked super chaotic old ones, it was almost more like a noise set than a metal show, because of all the blasts and the improv sections. My partner and I were right against the barricade and got our faces completely melted off. And covered in champagne of course 😂
They're incredible live, it'll be so worth it. Seen em twice, and I hope to hit that tour, too. They're one of those bands I can see over-and-over again.

great top man. You mention a lot of album I didn't listen to and by checking the comment under your video I definitely have to listen some of the bands/albums you talked about : Imperial Triumphant, White Ward or Blut Aus Nord. What a shame Blut Aus Nord are from my country, a lot of people always recommend me this band but I never tried this band...
Looking like a young and healthy Ozzy with those glasses lol. Perfectly fine list too! I would have added Ultha - All that has never been true and Nocturnal Triumphs self titled somewhere. But that’s just me. Cheers!
Loved your list, by the way. We shared picks on a lot of albums. Venom Prison, Imperial Triumphant, Blut Aus Nord, and Artificial Brain are all in my list, too. Undeath also made mine, and I loved Revocation, Dream Unending, and Voivod
Good list. Mine if we only count metal albums (cause I listen to basically every genre so top of those would probably be, like, top 100 for me): 1-Ashenspire- Hostile Architecture 2-Fleshwater- We're Not There to Be Loved 3-Holy Fawn-Dimensional Bleed 4-Chat Pile-God’s Country 5-Wormrot- Hiss 6-Blut Aus Nord-Disharmonium- Undreamable Abysses 7-Greyhaven-This Bright and Beautiful World 8-The Devil Wears Prada-Color Decay 9-Gospel-Loser 10-Saidan-Onryo II Her Spirit Eternal 11-Imperial Triumphant- Spirit of Ecstasy 12-Artificial Brain-Artificial Brain 13-Bad Omens-Death of Piece of Mind 14-Watain-The Agony and Ecstasy of Watain 15-Rolo Tomassi-Where Myth Becomes Memory 16-The Callous Daoboys- Celebrity Therapist 17-Counterparts-A Eulogy for Those Still Here 18-Cave In-Heavy Pendulum 19-Candy-Heaven is Here 20-The Dear Hunter-Antimai 21-Immolation-Acts of God 22-Septicflesh-Modern Primitive 23-Asunojokei-Island 24-Dead Cross-II 25-Astronoid-Radiant Bloom These aren't all metal albums I enjoyed this year but my top 25 would be like this probably. Hoping that 2023 also gonna be good year for music
A good chunk of albums on your list are also featured on mine :) But man, I REALLY wished I could get into that Imperial Triumphant album as much as you and Metal Trenches, but I am very happy that both of you love it as much as you do.
Loved the drip, Dark Prince, and loved the list you cooked up here and will give some of these the attention you feel they deserve. Looking forward to Anna and Twompy's picks as well!
Great video! I’m completely with you on Bluenothing being EP of the year. I’ve got some catching up to do with some of your picks though. My top 10 for metal: - An Abstract Illusion - Conjurer - Cult of Luna - Holy Fawn - Kardashev - KEN Mode - Lorna Shore - Rolo Tomassi - Wilderun - White Ward Other non-metal pick: - Billy Woods - black midi - Denzel Curry - Dance Gavin Dance - Kendrick Lamar
Great list. What I heard on here I definitely loved and what I didn’t I’ll check out. My honorable mentions are: Deceivers-Arch Enemy Goddess-Slaeget Digital Noise Alliance-Queensryche The Knocking-Doldrum The Great Below-Kvaen And now the list! 1. False Light-White Ward 2. Synchro Anarchy-Voivod 3. Pathos-Conjurer 4. Blackbraid I- Blackbraid 5. 劇變 (Jubian)-Ripped To Shreds 6. Sacred Rights And Black Magic-Stormruler 7. The Signal Heard Throughout Space-Parius 8. The God Machine-Blind Guardian 9. Days Of The Lost-The Halo Effect 10. Spirit Of Ecstasy-Imperial Triumphant
oh boy! What an intro! Are there so many negative comments as to warrant a disclaimer on every 'Best of...' list? I guess so, everyone seems to get uptight about lists... that being said... GREAT LIST!! Cheers!
Great video! Here is my list of my favorite releases: Wormrot-Hiss Artificial Brain- Artificial Brain Exhumed-To The Dead Imperial Triumphant-Spirit Of Ecstasy Worm-Bluenothing(ep) Pestilent Hex-The Ashen Abhorrence Voivod-Synchro Anarchy Darko US-Oni Sigh-Shiki Immolation-Acts Of God
Mine: DIR EN GREY - PHALARIS White Ward - False Light Unlucky Morpheus - evolution Blind Guardian - The God Machine Electric Callboy - TEKKNO An Abstract Illusion - Woe Asunojokei - Island Sigh - SHIKI Autonoesis - Moon of Foul Magics Wormrot - Hiss
Allright my top albums without order cuz they're all fantastic - Deathspell Omega - The Long Defeat, if I had to choose AOTY it would be this one, it grown on me over the year and from being bored by it now I love this shit - Artificial Brain - self titled - Blut Aus Nord - Disharmonium - undreamable abysses, I fucking haven't ever heard something like that - Truchło Strzygi - Gwiezdny demon and - Owls Woods Graves - Secret Spies of the horned Patrician, both albums I love for the same reason, they're the best mix of black metal and punk i've heard in a long time, love the energy and wibe. I also I've been recently to Truchło Strzygi concert and holy shit I cant move my neck now - Decapitated - Cancer Culture, DECAPITATED IS BACK BABY, I worried a lot about this one before it came out but maaan it slaps hard, their best since Organic Hallucinosis easily - Immolation - Acts of God, IMMOLATION IS BACK BABY and it's actually their best record since Majesty and Decay imo - Imperial Triumphant - Spirit of Ecstasy, the weirdest album of the year but I love that shit - Khold - Svartsyn - Sothoris - Wpiekłowstąpienie - Durbatuluk - Erzahle Baba Jaga - Tribal Gaze - The Nine Choirs - split of Angrrsth and Czort - W czeluść, only 4 songs but all are incredible Some honorable mentions: - Megadeth - The sick the dying and the dead - Behemoth - opvs contra natvram - Meshuggah - Immutable - Bloodbath - Survival of the sickest they're not outstanding records but in my humble opinion all of them shows that those, let be honest, old bands, still have something to offer - Ripped to Shreds - Jubian, here's some interesting death metal shit, I didn't listened to it too much so that's why they're not in main list - Fallujah - Empyrean, same thing as with Jubian - Midnight - Let There Be Witchery - Wilderun - Epigone, well done prog metal - Varnheim - Aura So now some really bad ones: - Five Finger Death Punch - AfterLife, MY EARS ARE FUCKING BLEEDING WHEN I LISTEN TO IT - Motionless in white - scoring the end of the world, just pure cringe - Machine Gun Kelly - Mainstream Sellout, boring af, nothing interesting to offer - Sabaton - The War to End All Wars - I'm gonna piss off many people but shit, listening to Sabaton makes me want to cut my ears and put them to ass or something And now my biggest disappointments - Kreator - Hate Uber Alles, pretty boring - Amon Amarth - The Great Army of kurwa something i dont remember, BORING AS F0000CK - Lorna Shore - Pain Remains, allright it's actually listenable and even has some fantastic moments like opening track but overall I'm bored in half of the record, all songs sound really similar and i have really big lack of variety. Also I think it's worse than Immortal and even Flesh Coffin, shit, all 3 songs from EP was better than this one. Except of that Lorna really must understand that not every song needs a breakdown or solo because they're most repetetive elements in this, already repetetive album
I whole heartedly agree with you're take on Lorna shore because as a fan of the band yeah I can for sure say that the song writing flaws in that alb are GLARING to say the least. Like it's way to repetitive to it's own detriment.
Nice list my dude. Going to check some of those out today. To name a few of my favorite albums of the year... Hath - All that was promised Warforged - The Grove Carrion Vael - Abhorrent Obsessions Allegaeon - Damnum Fallujah - Empyrean
Haven't finalized a top 10 of my own yet, but I completely agree on Voivod, Devil Master, Imperial Triumphant, White Ward, and Dream Unending. Those five records are some of the cream of the crop this year for me as well!
It was extremely tough to rank my top 10 best metal album this year, but this is what my list looks like Honorable mentions The Agony and Ecstasy of Watain - Watain Resentment Is Always Seismic - A Final Throw of Throes (mini-album) - Napalm Death The War to End All War - Sabaton Hiss - Wormrot Days of the Lost - The Halo Effect Ecstasies of Never Ending Night - Devil Master the list proper 10. Joint - Undead Corporation 9. A Vámpir - Denevér 8. Deciever - Arch Enemy 7. Celebrity Therapist - The Callous Daoboys 6. Illusions - Borealis 5. Pain Remains - Lorna Shore 4. Disharmonium - Undreamable Abysses . Blut Aus Nord 3. The Alchemy Project - Epica 2. Spirit of Ecstasy - Imperial Triumphant 1. MOGARI - Shi E Fukeru Omoi Wa Rikujoku Sura Kurai, Kanata No Sei Wo Aisuru Tame Ni Inochi Wo Tataeru (Yes, still, thats the title of the album) - Imperial Circus Dead Decadence This year was extreemely full, both in a good and bad way, the honorable mentions and a lot of the albums on the list can basically be interchangeable, Except Mogari, To me that album is perfection on a whole new level Can't wait for the other top lists though. because my God, i can feel it already that they all gonna be really fun to watch
So, I was a little late to watching this video, but, even though you have determined your rankings for the year, I would highly suggest checking out the new Frowning EP, "Of Void". Some of the most heavy, yet also beautiful, funeral doom I think I've ever heard
Like Voivod for our host, I have a strong bias, except it's for Autopsy. Is "Morbidity Triumphant" the most original album of the year? Of course not. But it is pure old school greatness. On the other end of the spectrum, Wilderun delivered an epic masterpiece with "Epigone". Respect to Mike Patton and the Dead Cross gang for delivering a heater.
Nice work this year dude. Have a great new year. Particularly thank you for your review of Sighs Shiki which inspired me to check out what became my fave of 2022👋👍🖤....I also got their amazing debut and couple of other albums since. My list is just my top albums list any genre... But some more metal is indeed within.... My 2022 top list... 1 Shiki by Sigh 10/10 2 The Tipping Point by Tears For Fears 3 Innate Passage by Elder (just out and amazing!!) 4 Halo by Amorphis 5 Never Let Me Go by Placebo 6 Omnium Gathurum by King Gizzard and The Lizard Wizard 9.5/10 7 Fossora by Bjork 8 The Long Road North by Cult of Luna 9 Impera by Ghost 9/10 10 Lightwork by Devin Townsend 11 Immutable by Meshuggah 12 Closure/ Continuation by Porcupine Tree 8.5/10 13 The Long Long Road by Arthur Brown 14 Epigone by Wilderun 8/10 15 True North by Aha 16 Sweet Evil Sun by Candlemass (it's only a 7/10 for me as it's strangely bland compared to their classic albums, but I enjoy it) Haven't listened to Spirit of ecstacy (or any on your list lol☺️☺️) so will check your no 1 out
My list (a mixture of rock/metal) 1. Cave In - Heavy Pendulum 2. Church of Disgust - Weakest is the Flesh 3. Revocation - Netherheaven 4. Imperial Triumphant - Spirit of Ecstasy 5. Acephalix - Theothanatology 6. Undeath - It's Time to Rise ... 7. Dead Void - Volatile Forms 8. Ken Mode - Null 9. Mortuous - Upon Desolation 10. Cloakroom - Dissolution Wave EP of the Year: Blood Incantation - TimewaveZero
*GASP* A Metalhead with different opinions and biases to my own?! Say it ain't so! Sarcasm aside, this was a great list. While only one of those albums broke my top 30 (Blut Aus Nord), I can say that all the albums listed I've enjoyed and appreciated in some capacity. My top 10 is: 01: bloodywood - Rakshak 02: Fellowship - The Saberlight Chronicles 03: Devin Townsend - Lightwork 04: Bloody Hammers - Washed In The Blood 05: Seventh Wonder - The Testament 06: TrollfesT - Flamingo Overlord 07: Dynazty - Final Advent 08: Electric Callboy - TEKKNO 09: Motionless in White - Scoring the End of the World 10: Druid Lord - Relics Of The Dead It's pretty obvious I have a taste for the cheesier, goofier side of metal, but it's what helps me get through the dark times in my life. Bloodywood is special because it represents what I love most about metal: transcending cultural boundaries and bringing in regional styles to tried and true metal formulas. Plus it has a song about beating the shit out of rapists. That alone makes it worthy is respect, IMO! As for the rest of my list, in descending order: Ghost - Impera Blut aus Nord - Disharmonium - Undreamable Abysses Acid Witch - Rot Among Us Power Paladin - With The Magic Of Windfyre Steel Enterprise Earth - The Chosen Sabaton - The War to End All Wars Threshold - Dividing Lines Tallah - The Generation Of Danger Zeal & Ardor - Zeal & Ardor Dream Widow - Dream Widow Cosmic Putrefaction - Crepuscular Dirge For The Blessed Ones Star Eternal - Atlas Static Abyss - Labyrinth of Veins Vorga - Striving Toward Oblivion Exocrine - The Hybrid Suns Protector - Excessive Outburst Of Depravity Brymir - Voices in the Sky Lord Belial - Rapture Evil Invaders - Shattering Reflection Ritual Dictates - No Great Loss P.S: I loved the opening gag about "So *that's* how you make toast." Fucking nailed it, good sir XD
I'm getting my notes ready for the 2nd Annual Golden Wheel Awards video celebrating my personal best releases of 2022 that is coming out sometime in January. I also have a script of another unrelated video on my external h-drive that still has yet to be filmed because I have been putting off setting up my room to do future videos in. ARE YOU AND ANNA READY FOR SOME DEATH METAL ON FRIDAY AT HISTORY???? I WILL! SEE YOU TWO GOOFBALLS THERE!!!! 🤪
YEEEEE mad pumped. Obituary and Cattle Decapitation always put on a great show, Carcass haven't been to Toronto in almost a decade and Amon Amarth... will most certainly also be there lmao.
I watched this earlier but forgot to like and comment. Splendid list, boy are we metal fans spoiled this year! It was quite the sweaty task coming up with my top 25. I listened to like 475 albums this year, I got to do 25. Aeviterne - The Ailing Facade An Abstract Illusion - Woe Arkaik - Labyrinth of Hungry Ghosts Aronious - Irkalla Artificial Brain - Artificial Brain Ashenspire - Hostile Architecture ASUNOJOKEI - ISLAND Ataraxy - The Last Mirror Bekor Qilish - Throes of Death From The Dreamed Nihilism Blut aus Nord - Disharmonium: Undreamable Abysses COURE - Inversum Nema Dream Unending - Songs of Salvation Grima - Frostbitten Hath - All That Was Promised Hissing - Hypervirulence Architecture Imperial Triumphant - Spirit of Ecstacy Inanimate Existence - The Masquerade Innumerable Forms - Philosophical Collapse Kardashev - Liminal Rite Krallice - Crystalline Exhaustion Peklo - Crowned by Plagues Ultha - All That Has Never Been True Wake - Thought Form Descent White Ward - False Light WORM - Bluenothing
Man, Pain of Oizys is fucking amazing. That chorus gets my dander up something fierce. "BOW! TO NO ONE! OFF! YOUR KNEES! I FIND PEACE IN THE ROUGHEST SEAS!"
First of all, gotta say thanks for the great year of content and recommendations. I've no idea how you manage to listen to this much music, make vids and have a job to provide for your better half and your better Chompy! Now onto mine: Honorable Mentions: Battle Beast - Circus of Doom Shadow of Intent - Elegy Rolo Tomassi - Where Myth Becomes Mystery Sabaton - The War to End All Wars The Hu - Rumble of Thunder Slaegt - Goddess Lorna Shore - Pain Remains And my top 10 this year: Venom Prison - Erebos Amorphis - Halo Ghost - Impera Tzompantli - Tlazcaltiliztli Arch Enemy - Deceivers Seventh Storm - Maledictus Bloodywood - Rakshak Electric Callboy - Tekkno The Halo Effect - Days of the Lost Blackbraid - Blackbraid I

Song Of Salvation is awesome. I'd possibly put Cave In's new album up in my top ten, as well as Dreamkiller from Sumerlands and quite possibly DNA from Queensryche as well. Really nice list!
Maybe I’m weird, but my 2 favorite metal albums this year were Hostile Architecture by Ashenspire and Hiss from Wormrot. 🤷♂️ Disharmonium was great too
My personal list: Ithaca - They Fear Us (my aoty. This grabbed me both by the throat and balls from the moment I put it on. I would be listening to other albums and go “I wanna listen to that again.”) Oceans of Slumber - Starlight And Ash Sylvaine - Nova White Ward - False Light Deathbell - A Nocturnal Crossing Moonlight Haze - Animus Venom Prison - Erebos Cloud Rat - Threshold Casket Robbery - Rituals of Death (latest addition) Red Handed Denial - I’d Rather Be Asleep HM: Hath - All That Was Promised Artificial Brain - Artificial Brain Visions of Atlantis - Pirates Shattered Sigh - Through Dark Veils Imperial Triumphant - Spirit of Ecstasy When Nothing Remains - As All Torn Asunder (favorite I found this year not from this year)

The 10 that moved me in 2022 Sigh Satan Toxik Meshuggah Loudness Soreption Doomocracy Avatarium Decapitated Revocation Candlemass and Hath would have been in the top 10 had the production not sucked so hard. Honorable mention to Ibaraki, A-Z, Temple of Void, Megadeth, and Obsidious.
I gotta say Hath still is up there for me as my views on production are more on the "ignorance is bliss" side of things. For me with production, it's either god awful, or it's NOT God awful. So now after reading ur comment even if I listen to all that was promised again with my mind on focusing on the production, I'm pretty sure I won't hear it as God awful. Man I really hope I'm right.... I mean.... It was promised!
@@DavidQuessy Yeah I wish I could not be bothered by it because it is a kick ass album. Hath seems to be on the verge of something unique in metal and that is rare. I wont go into detail with my sonic nit picking because if you are not hearing what I'm hearing I don't want to give you a red pill and mess up the "ignorance is bliss" enjoyment of this awesome record.
10: Arch Enemy: Decievers 9: The Devils of Loudun: Escaping Eternity 8: Hath: All that was Promised 7: Sylvaine: Nova 6: Falls of Rauros: Key to a Vanishing Future 5: Needless: The Cosmic Cauldron 4: Krallice: Crystalline Exhaustion 3: Venom Prison: Erebos 2: Amorphis: Halo 1: Vorga: Striving Towards Oblivion This year was exceptional in every way

While we have some similarities, I could not disagree more with Devil Master. That, for whatever reason, did not click with me whatsoever. Like, at all. I can't explain why either. I guess they're just a band I can't like. Maybe the next one will win me over, but only time will time. Oh yeah, my Top 10. Guess I can reveal that earlier than planned. 1. Imperial Triumphant - Spirit Of Ecstasy 2. Lorna Shore - Pain Remains 3. Electric Callboy - Tekkno (btw some of these songs are getting played at my Senior Prom and there's nothing anyone can do to stop me from making that happen.) 4. Worm Shepherd - Ritual Hymns 5. Venom Prison - Erebos 6. Véhémence - Ordalies 7. Revocation - Netherheaven 8. Darko US - Oni 9. Sigh - Shiki 10. Tallah - The Generation Of Danger
Yeah, hence why they're on my list. Also wanna shout out Artificial Brain's self-titled, that grew on me a LOT as the year went on, just barely missed my Top 20.

My list (not in any order), with reasons for every pick: VENOM PRISON - EREBOS (Wales) Holy fuck, shit slaps. Didn't like the cold production at first, but holy shit the performances and Larissa's voice. One of the most listened too cause it came early this year. CELESTE - ASSASSINE(S) (France) So fucking violent, I love this. There is almost a shoegaze/onirc atmosphere feel to it, even though the riffs are pure crushing hardcore. PURE WRATH - HYMN TO THE WOEFUL HEARTS (Indonesia) Classic black, perfectly executed and mixed. Shoutout to the lyrics about one of the worst political purges in history against the Indonesian communists and minorities, who died in milions. ESOCTRILIHUM - CONSECRATION OF THE SPIRITÜS FLESH (France) Holy shit. The fucking dude trimmed it. It's not 10 days long, and it's beautiful! Plus I guess his hamster died or something, 'cause he's piiiiissed. ASHENSPIRE - HOSTILE ARCHITECTURE (Scotland) Definetelly leftist, sperimental black metal with "theatrical" lyrics. Weird but couldn't get enough this summer. PILLAGING VILLAGERS - PILLAGING VILLAGERS (Usa) A hidden gem discovered though AMG. The dude imagines a peasant revolt that actually succeeds. The crust punk/dropckick murphys salad I didn't know I needed to cheer me up. DE PROFUNDIS - THE CORRUPTION OF VIRTUE (England) Old school death with tech death influences. The production is phenomenal, and the warm fretless bass remarkable. I had a ton of fun with it. CHAT PILE - GOD'S COUNTRY (Usa) I feel this sludge album needs to be listened by anyone loving metal's provocatory and political potential. For real, this is not libtard-dem jargon, it's intense pain, poverty and suffering on a social and personal level. "grimace_smoking_weed.jpg" , as painful as it is to sit though, is my song of the year. Plus it's a flawless album full of hooks. GAEREA - MIRAGE (Portugal) I loved their previus albums, but this is their masterpiece. New wave of european black, with so many layers of sound and song structure it's a joy for the ears. The dude screams like he's desperate and you can really feel the darkness, the intimacy of the performance. Really emotional. TALLAH - THE GENERATION OF DANGER (Usa) This guys are making me appreciate something nu metal-ish, which I generally hate. This thing is fun af. I don't have a favorite one, but Gaerea and Chat Pile are way better compared to the others, I just can't choose between the two. Great picks, great channel and thanks for all your videos Robert! Cheers from Italy and GRAZIE
My 3 favorites are 1. Watain Agony and Ecstasy Of 2. Imperial Triumphant Spirit Of Ecstasy 3. White Ward False Light. I don’t know which of those 3 will take the number 1 spot for me. It will come down to a final listen of all three. Great video and I am really looking forward to your top 10 worst albums of 2022.

'Imperial Triumphant' also nail it live! Chaotic live show, bassist puts in work.
Yep! Seen them in Gdańsk! Amazing gig! Taken photo with basist, great guy!
Saw them in Toronto a couple months ago with Zeal & Ardor, great show.
@@themetalmeltdownofficial same tour i saw them on! Sylvaine was surprise, i will admit
Istg I always wait for these lists way more than I should😭 excited for this one especially.
I’m so happy to see Imperial Triumphant get so much praise.
I’m seeing theme live on February and I cannot w a i t.
Seen them with Immolation and Mortiferum, what a cool night.
They're incredible live, it'll be so worth it. Seen em twice, and I hope to hit that tour, too. They're one of those bands I can see over-and-over again.

This has already changed. Take out Gaerea switch with Blind Guardian. Take out The Halo Effect switch with Dream Unending. That's my final answer.
Haha! Awesome dude, you look like Ozzy with the glasses on.
I think that’s how he drinks wine too.
great top man.
Cheers!
I discovered Cloud Red through your video about Threshold, so thanks dude! :)
Loved your list, by the way. We shared picks on a lot of albums. Venom Prison, Imperial Triumphant, Blut Aus Nord, and Artificial Brain are all in my list, too. Undeath also made mine, and I loved Revocation, Dream Unending, and Voivod
Imperial Triumphant put out my favourite album of the year by far...great list...thanks

Tons of great albums here. Excited to record TOP 10 BEST NON-METAL ALBUMS very soon...
@@themetalmeltdownofficial Nice
Ashenspire
Have you and Anna ever gone to see Imperial Triumphant perform live?
What do you opinion about "an abstract illusion-Woe"
Really good album
Incredible record.
Kind of pretentious and over use of blast beats and droning bass drums as a compositional tool, but still pretty good...The production is fantastic!
Nice list, a lot of my faves for the year as well...and no crap!
A good chunk of albums on your list are also featured on mine :)
But man, I REALLY wished I could get into that Imperial Triumphant album as much as you and Metal Trenches, but I am very happy that both of you love it as much as you do.
Loved the drip, Dark Prince, and loved the list you cooked up here and will give some of these the attention you feel they deserve. Looking forward to Anna and Twompy's picks as well!

Great video! Here is my list of my favorite releases:

Sigh and Electro Callboys! Hell yeah! The most catchiest albums of the year! Every song is a banger!
Allright my top albums without order cuz they're all fantastic
- Deathspell Omega - The Long Defeat, if I had to choose AOTY it would be this one, it grown on me over the year and from being bored by it now I love this shit
- Artificial Brain - self titled
- Blut Aus Nord - Disharmonium - undreamable abysses, I fucking haven't ever heard something like that
- Truchło Strzygi - Gwiezdny demon and
- Owls Woods Graves - Secret Spies of the horned Patrician, both albums I love for the same reason, they're the best mix of black metal and punk i've heard in a long time, love the energy and wibe. I also I've been recently to Truchło Strzygi concert and holy shit I cant move my neck now
- Decapitated - Cancer Culture, DECAPITATED IS BACK BABY, I worried a lot about this one before it came out but maaan it slaps hard, their best since Organic Hallucinosis easily
- Immolation - Acts of God, IMMOLATION IS BACK BABY and it's actually their best record since Majesty and Decay imo
- Imperial Triumphant - Spirit of Ecstasy, the weirdest album of the year but I love that shit
- Khold - Svartsyn
- Sothoris - Wpiekłowstąpienie
- Durbatuluk - Erzahle Baba Jaga
- Tribal Gaze - The Nine Choirs
- split of Angrrsth and Czort - W czeluść, only 4 songs but all are incredible
Some honorable mentions:
- Megadeth - The sick the dying and the dead
- Behemoth - opvs contra natvram
- Meshuggah - Immutable
- Bloodbath - Survival of the sickest
they're not outstanding records but in my humble opinion all of them shows that those, let be honest, old bands, still have something to offer
- Ripped to Shreds - Jubian, here's some interesting death metal shit, I didn't listened to it too much so that's why they're not in main list
- Fallujah - Empyrean, same thing as with Jubian
- Midnight - Let There Be Witchery
- Wilderun - Epigone, well done prog metal
- Varnheim - Aura
So now some really bad ones:
- Five Finger Death Punch - AfterLife, MY EARS ARE FUCKING BLEEDING WHEN I LISTEN TO IT
- Motionless in white - scoring the end of the world, just pure cringe
- Machine Gun Kelly - Mainstream Sellout, boring af, nothing interesting to offer
- Sabaton - The War to End All Wars - I'm gonna piss off many people but shit, listening to Sabaton makes me want to cut my ears and put them to ass or something
And now my biggest disappointments
- Kreator - Hate Uber Alles, pretty boring
- Amon Amarth - The Great Army of kurwa something i dont remember, BORING AS F0000CK
- Lorna Shore - Pain Remains, allright it's actually listenable and even has some fantastic moments like opening track but overall I'm bored in half of the record, all songs sound really similar and i have really big lack of variety.
Truchło Strzygi rozp****la!
Kreator was definitely the biggest disappointment of the year. It wasn't terrible but it has to be the worst album since the 90s period.
Ah man that Devil Master album is a chef's kiss. We have quite a few overlaps. Kinda surprised I didn't see Comeback Kid or Cancer Bats on here.
Both great albums for sure though
Sumerlands - Dream Killer deserves some love,it's one addicting album,I can't stop listening to it!
Yes it does, a great album.
Nice list my dude. Going to check some of those out today. To name a few of my favorite albums of the year...
Hath - All that was promised
Warforged - The Grove
Carrion Vael - Abhorrent Obsessions
Allegaeon - Damnum
Fallujah - Empyrean
Not sure how Damnum isn't on more lists but it's def in my top3
@@DavidQuessy too much good shit this year
Anything below my personal top 3 could get replaced by shit not even on my list tomorrow
Did you ever check out the Hulder ep? I can’t see you not liking that one
I... dont remember. Maybe? I guess this gives me a good excuse to revisit it lmao
You should do a retro review of acid bath and agents of oblivion albums. Nobody has ever reviewed agents of oblivion album not even thralls of metal.
Haven't finalized a top 10 of my own yet, but I completely agree on Voivod, Devil Master, Imperial Triumphant, White Ward, and Dream Unending. Those five records are some of the cream of the crop this year for me as well!
It was extremely tough to rank my top 10 best metal album this year, but this is what my list looks like
Honorable mentions
The Agony and Ecstasy of Watain - Watain
Resentment Is Always Seismic - A Final Throw of Throes (mini-album) - Napalm Death
The War to End All War - Sabaton
Hiss - Wormrot
Days of the Lost - The Halo Effect
Ecstasies of Never Ending Night - Devil Master
the list proper
10. Joint - Undead Corporation
9. A Vámpir - Denevér
8. Deciever - Arch Enemy
7. Celebrity Therapist - The Callous Daoboys
6. Illusions - Borealis
5. Pain Remains - Lorna Shore
4. Disharmonium - Undreamable Abysses . Blut Aus Nord
3. The Alchemy Project - Epica
2. Spirit of Ecstasy - Imperial Triumphant
1. MOGARI - Shi E Fukeru Omoi Wa Rikujoku Sura Kurai, Kanata No Sei Wo Aisuru Tame Ni Inochi Wo Tataeru (Yes, still, thats the title of the album) - Imperial Circus Dead Decadence
This year was extreemely full, both in a good and bad way, the honorable mentions and a lot of the albums on the list can basically be interchangeable, Except Mogari, To me that album is perfection on a whole new level
Can't wait for the other top lists though. because my God, i can feel it already that they all gonna be really fun to watch
Very interesting year
Yooooooo. Thanks for putting Dream Unending on my radar.
You're very welcome my dude, such a badass album.
I still need to flesh out my top ten, but I know my favorite: Nite-Voices of the Kronian Moon. Check it out if you haven’t!
Great album and a great choice.
Your intro reminded me of when Steve from Blue's Clues would just talk to the camera haha
I unironically love that lmao
Great list,cheers dude!
Hell of a year for metal
Hell yeah it was
I'd love your reviewing every album format for a Voivod episode 🤟
They have a lot of albums so its quite the task lmao, but eventually it'll happen
I never listened to imperial triumphant must have missed your review of them heard the name a lot been meaning to check them out really gotta do that
Get ready to hate it, then respect it, then appreciate it, then love it xd
I honestly had no idea about Cloud Rat until this video. Wow fucking awesome
So, I was a little late to watching this video, but, even though you have determined your rankings for the year, I would highly suggest checking out the new Frowning EP, "Of Void". Some of the most heavy, yet also beautiful, funeral doom I think I've ever heard
The best time of the year! I live for this yo. Also, with that suit you look like an odd mish mash of Ozzy Osbourne and the Weeknd. Awesome
Best. Compliment. Ever.
Understandable, that Autopsy album was great
That fkn intro!!! AWESOME!
1 Shiki by Sigh 10/10
2 The Tipping Point by Tears For Fears
3 Innate Passage by Elder (just out and amazing!!)
4 Halo by Amorphis
5 Never Let Me Go by Placebo
6 Omnium Gathurum by King Gizzard and The Lizard Wizard 9.5/10
7 Fossora by Bjork
8 The Long Road North by Cult of Luna
9 Impera by Ghost 9/10
10 Lightwork by Devin Townsend
11 Immutable by Meshuggah
12 Closure/ Continuation by Porcupine Tree 8.5/10
13 The Long Long Road by Arthur Brown
14 Epigone by Wilderun 8/10
15 True North by Aha
16 Sweet Evil Sun by Candlemass (it's only a 7/10 for me as it's strangely bland compared to their classic albums, but I enjoy it)
Haven't listened to Spirit of ecstacy (or any on your list lol☺️☺️) so will check your no 1 out
Good list. Glad Devil Master got some love. My list definitely would have included Gaerea.
My list (a mixture of rock/metal)
1. Cave In - Heavy Pendulum
2. Church of Disgust - Weakest is the Flesh
3. Revocation - Netherheaven
4. Imperial Triumphant - Spirit of Ecstasy
5. Acephalix - Theothanatology
6. Undeath - It's Time to Rise ...
7. Dead Void - Volatile Forms
8. Ken Mode - Null
9. Mortuous - Upon Desolation
10. Cloakroom - Dissolution Wave
EP of the Year: Blood Incantation - TimewaveZero
Imperial Triumphant is also my number one. A masterpiece
For you:
“Slow cooked beef in red wine - Floyd Cooks” on UA-cam. From 1:17 classic! Such an awesome chef.
My top 10 is:
01: bloodywood - Rakshak
02: Fellowship - The Saberlight Chronicles
03: Devin Townsend - Lightwork
04: Bloody Hammers - Washed In The Blood
05: Seventh Wonder - The Testament
06: TrollfesT - Flamingo Overlord
07: Dynazty - Final Advent
08: Electric Callboy - TEKKNO
09: Motionless in White - Scoring the End of the World
10: Druid Lord - Relics Of The Dead
It's pretty obvious I have a taste for the cheesier, goofier side of metal, but it's what helps me get through the dark times in my life. Bloodywood is special because it represents what I love most about metal: transcending cultural boundaries and bringing in regional styles to tried and true metal formulas. Plus it has a song about beating the shit out of rapists. That alone makes it worthy is respect, IMO!
As for the rest of my list, in descending order:
Ghost - Impera
Blut aus Nord - Disharmonium - Undreamable Abysses
Acid Witch - Rot Among Us
Power Paladin - With The Magic Of Windfyre Steel
Enterprise Earth - The Chosen

You should check out bleed from within-shrine. My personal fav
3:39 you mean subjective?

@@themetalmeltdownofficial I haven't seen ANY of those bands live, so it'll be great!
I watched this earlier but forgot to like and comment. Splendid list, boy are we metal fans spoiled this year! It was quite the sweaty task coming up with my top 25. I listened to like 475 albums this year, I got to do 25.

Imperial Triumph for the win! So good. I met Steve in Seattle and what an awesome dude he is
Song Of Salvation is awesome.
Disharmonium was great too
Not weird at all, both were great albums and both came DAMN near close to being in this video in some form.
Days of the lost from The Halo Effect is clearly in my top from 2022

Revocation
Candlemass and Hath would have been in the top 10 had the production not sucked so hard.

Very good year in terms of new music. Hope that 2023 will be even better.
1. Imperial Triumphant - Spirit Of Ecstasy
2. Lorna Shore - Pain Remains
3. Electric Callboy - Tekkno (btw some of these songs are getting played at my Senior Prom and there's nothing anyone can do to stop me from making that happen.)
4. Worm Shepherd - Ritual Hymns
5. Venom Prison - Erebos
6. Véhémence - Ordalies
7. Revocation - Netherheaven
8. Darko US - Oni
9. Sigh - Shiki
10. Tallah - The Generation Of Danger
No shame in that bud, its all good. Plenty of great albums here irregardless. Vehemence and Sigh were great.
Yeah, hence why they're on my list. Also wanna shout out Artificial Brain's self-titled, that grew on me a LOT as the year went on, just barely missed my Top 20.
I think my problem is that there was too much good shit this year. I literally have option paralysis.

My list (not in any order), with reasons for every pick:
VENOM PRISON - EREBOS (Wales)
Holy fuck, shit slaps. Didn't like the cold production at first, but holy shit the performances and Larissa's voice. One of the most listened too cause it came early this year.
CELESTE - ASSASSINE(S) (France)
So fucking violent, I love this. There is almost a shoegaze/onirc atmosphere feel to it, even though the riffs are pure crushing hardcore.
PURE WRATH - HYMN TO THE WOEFUL HEARTS (Indonesia)
Classic black, perfectly executed and mixed. Shoutout to the lyrics about one of the worst political purges in history against the Indonesian communists and minorities, who died in milions.
ESOCTRILIHUM - CONSECRATION OF THE SPIRITÜS FLESH (France)
Holy shit. The fucking dude trimmed it. It's not 10 days long, and it's beautiful! Plus I guess his hamster died or something, 'cause he's piiiiissed.
ASHENSPIRE - HOSTILE ARCHITECTURE (Scotland)
Definetelly leftist, sperimental black metal with "theatrical" lyrics. Weird but couldn't get enough this summer.
PILLAGING VILLAGERS - PILLAGING VILLAGERS (Usa)
A hidden gem discovered though AMG. The dude imagines a peasant revolt that actually succeeds. The crust punk/dropckick murphys salad I didn't know I needed to cheer me up.
DE PROFUNDIS - THE CORRUPTION OF VIRTUE (England)
Old school death with tech death influences. The production is phenomenal, and the warm fretless bass remarkable. I had a ton of fun with it.
CHAT PILE - GOD'S COUNTRY (Usa)
I feel this sludge album needs to be listened by anyone loving metal's provocatory and political potential. For real, this is not libtard-dem jargon, it's intense pain, poverty and suffering on a social and personal level. "grimace_smoking_weed.jpg" , as painful as it is to sit though, is my song of the year. Plus it's a flawless album full of hooks.
GAEREA - MIRAGE (Portugal)
I loved their previus albums, but this is their masterpiece. New wave of european black, with so many layers of sound and song structure it's a joy for the ears. The dude screams like he's desperate and you can really feel the darkness, the intimacy of the performance. Really emotional.
TALLAH - THE GENERATION OF DANGER (Usa)
This guys are making me appreciate something nu metal-ish, which I generally hate. This thing is fun af.
I don't have a favorite one, but Gaerea and Chat Pile are way better compared to the others, I just can't choose between the two.
Great picks, great channel and thanks for all your videos Robert! Cheers from Italy and GRAZIE
Synchro Anarchy compared to Dimension Hatross! That is a bold statement.
One I stand by, its a great album.
I think synergy was the word you were looking for on the Imperial Triumphant part haha
YES, THANK YOU
Wiegedood, parius, and gaerea would be on mine. Extremely solid list though
Wiegedood and Gaerea had great albums, some of the best black metal of the year.
