This is my quarantine project today. I am officially at the end of my rope trying to compensate for the drift. Surgery time. If it dies, it dies, and I'm heading out into the contamination zone for a new one.
Thanks for the advice about swapping the joysticks! Another thing I found that helps is cleaning the actual joystick bases and necks thoroughly with a q-tip and rubbing alcohol. With the necks, it removes all the grit, grime, any stickiness, AND the worn plastic from being rubbed in all directions from being used so much. It makes a difference in the smoothness and fluidity of joystick usage. Thanks again!!
THIS WORKS. I can't thank you enough. This video was tremendously helpful. I'm not tech savvy, and you could say I've never seen a screw driver in my life. This video is easy to follow and it fixed my problem. no more stick drift! THANK YOU
Thanks for this. While I didn't fully open my controller, I popped off the left panel, then blew out the area with compressed air, and that so far did the trick. Testing it in Windows Controller Setup, and though my controller is not fully centered (its not exactly new nor seldom used), the drift issue that was fairly constant only a few moments ago was resolved.
Awesome. I had 2 controllers with really bad stick drift. I've been just dealing with it for a couple months, but recently the drift got so bad it was unplayable. Followed the tutorial (used rubbing alcohol and cue tips) and now both work like new. Thanks for saving me 60 bucks.
Joseph Mckeown she just mashes it more into the controller causing more problems when she does that. Then I get mad and hit her. Now she has a permanent gimp eye. I would prefer to just clean it myself
Everyone please try blowing near the LB or RB depending on which analog it you are having issues and maybe both of the triggers before taking it apart. It saved me trouble and possibly damaging the controller. This video would be helpful and is very informative.
dude i was about to just go and smash my controller and wait the 2 weeks out to be able to buy a new one but with this i pretty much fixed it completely thanks soo much youve earned my like and sub
Mohammad Zain You have to buy a new sensor for the analog stick, or just get a new controller, for some people wd 40 and rubbing alcohol ( 70% ) works, for me it didn't but for a lot of people it does, it's simple, just get a cotton swab for the alcohol dip it in and go around the inside part of the analog stick and make sure you press HARD.
Hey this actually helped my controller man! I blew into the stick instead of using the air can (dumb I know) and it cleaned it! I actually found hairs inside somehow. You're right about the gunk that builds up too. Great tutorial man. You helped me save a lot of money lol
Just tried this...Had a little tiny fraction chip bit in the left stick. So swapped them around after cleaning and put a tiny piece of rubber string tighten the gap when putting it back on upside down. Hopefully this works, really flimsy pieces inside the stick caps. Though I have been playing a lot of Fifa co-op:) Thanks for this dude. Might have saved me 50 euros! EDIT: YEP this worked!! switched the sticks and put a tiny piece of rubber string inside before I put it back on the stub with the controller upside down and its a fix for me. Thanks again dude!. Really appreciate the video!!
Little easier tip without having to take your controller apart, take a small straw and place in on one of the sides on the joystick and slowing blow in it , works just the same . But it will not clean it out just keep your joysticks from sticking
Wow. Man you made my controller mess up than it originally was, the triggers won't work, and the left trigger was locked. So my character looked retarded blocking, But now it seems to work.
Thanks for being a part of "UA-cam UNIVERSITY". I have been struggling with both of my 🎮 's doing the same thing, was very close to buying a new set till I saw this.
My controller is wired and i was so confused as to why mine didn’t open up the same way. The entire back panel comes off of mine rather than in pieces but this tutorial still helped give me a basis on what to do!! Stick drift is completely gone now
For anyone that doesn't have his exact tool to take off the screws, I used a small slim flat head screwdriver, it comes with plenty of others, small tool box, it's called Stanley, I believe you can get it at Wal Mart or Lowes, I'll have to update on that when my bf gets home. Anyways, it worked at taking them out.
Tyler Arnold As stated in the video, it kind of depends how bad your drift is and how worn out the sticks are. This tutorial will fix the issue for most people or at the very minimum improve the severity of the stick drift as long as you follow along and really clean it out.
Thanks. Had a slight stick drift problem and it was very annoying. Gone now. Also figured i would get a new face plate for it in the process. Now it works better than ever and looks awesome. Great tutorial.
Just bought an XB1 controller less than two months ago, never dropped it, and the right joystick drifts left. Haven't even dropped the thing and it's already broken.
fixed My controller with this excellent tutorial, couldn't see any dust in the analog sticks but blew them out regardless, swapped them due to one more worn than the other and reassembled. like new!
gone through 3 controllers already(all bought new) i still have all 3 of them, 1 of them is literally unplayable and the other 2 have joystick drift and i cant fix it
the screws on my controller have little peices of metal in the middle of space where the drill bit is supposed to go so i cant get it in there Edit:turns out the screw i have is called a tamper resistant TORX gotta get a different type of torx drill bit
Yea those suck. If you get a small flathead screwdriver sometimes you can snap it off to use a normal one, but not always. I just bought a screwdriver kit that had all the specialty bits personally. Nintendo, Xbox, etc
It may be on here already, but was not going to read thru 400 + comments. Just an FYI XBOX does not warranty controllers past 90 days. Thanks for the video though.
About 300/360 degrees of my stick movement would result in the stick just staying where it was. I used the duster and the alcohol. Now it works like new. Thanks!
My 1/16 and 5/64 screwdriver can't unscrew the 5 screws because there is a little dot in the middle of the screw blocking me from unscrewing it. How do I get past this? Do I need a special screwdriver or something?
I just did this my self .. With a small Allen key jam the the key in there and use leverage and pressure (constant not forcefully ) to break the dots in the middle of the screw takes time but works and the key will be able to turn the screw
I did exactly as you mentioned (although I wasn't prepared for the hex screw with a pin inside - whatever that is actually called - did I miss that detail). Resolved my drift issue by 90%!!! I'll redo and see if second pass. Ultimately, my controller has returned to usable, so as a casual player you helped save me $50+. It was also created a fun activity for my brother in-law and I, so thanks for that too.
@@xenko-6204 you need A Torx T8H T6 screwdriver, as was stated in the video (I missed that part too).... Or, as I did, apply force to the pin that is in the middle the screw, using a small flat head dcrrwdriver. The pin breaks off. Then you can use a small flathead or hex key... Good luck McGuyvering it.
This isn't "broken" as the title suggests, this is great for cleaning though. If you can link a video for replacing the analog stick entirely that'd be nice.
excellent! I have to admit I was a little sceptical as to whether this would work, it did and I can finally get back on world of tanks and eso, thanks for the upload
This is cleaing, not fixing. To fix stickdrifting you need to solder a new ALPS analog stick to the pcb. If you don't now how to do that just buy a new controller.

I'm currently crippled and my employerr is trying to fire me even though I got injured at work. I didn't watch the video because it was throbbing so God damn badly.
Matthew Cross What a roller coaster your comment is. What do I start with? The unnecessary origin of your back pain, the fuckall assumption that your back pain somehow correlates with your eyesight and attention span on a video, or how you failed to see that “solder” was mentioned in the comment in the first place rather than in the video. Funny.
In addition, sometimes the problem can be in the game itself or way easier than you imagine. Examples: 1) Blow into your stick and clean it up with the 70% alcohol napkin. Worked for me. 2) Zero % death-zone. Most of the times your death zone needs to be configured in the game's settings, else - random movements do happen 3) In GTA V, for example, if you picked up people who are doing "adult thing" right in the car - the handling will get worse and the car will drift, because of... ew, let's not go further, alright? And if you deliver them to the ending point before the action finishes, or you are drunk and you get to the ending point before the effect wears off - the game will not disable the script, it will spread across all of your saves and nothing will help. Except: Simply become drunk somehow, drive a car and wait for the effect to wear off. Worked for me once, disabled the script. Hope this helps!
I actually used the Huge Compressor... the one use to Pump air to vehicles.... it worked well... all you need to remember is that when using a compressed air.. be sure it's not wet or stuff.... also try spraying it to tissue paper or some cotton to check if it has other substance like water, dirt or stuff.. that way you can avoid breaking your crap..

Wow, thanks a lot my man. Just the disassembly bit is already useful enough. My right stick sometimes get stuck in place (physically), turns out one of the gray bracket was detached. Thank god it was not broken/snapped and all I did was snap it back into place. Thanks again!
Xbox One controllers are cheap expect to buy more than one. this video seems helpful but cleansing the anolongs from the inside does nothing. don't take your controller apart
Anyone with basic common sense and intelligence could take a controller apart and do regular maintenance without ruining it. Hell I've seen twelve year olds take 360 consoles apart and repair the common manufactures defect with the disc drives. Its not rocket science.Hell I've taken my controllers apart to clean them out. Doing so made my 360 controllers last over 8 years. And I still have them, and they still work like new. I intend to do the same with my One controller, as I don't have the money to just keep buying new ones.
MrAnarchyMarine yeah but we're talking about taking it apart to clean the anologs that doesn't work. I'm not saying don't take it apart because it's hard .
Then you clearly don't know how over sensitive those controllers can be. A piece of dust or lint got in the right stick, and was making it to where I couldnt turn right. After I used one of those compressed gas electronics dusters on it. It works like new again. Also regular maintenance on them, like cleaning them from the inside out, can make them last longer as dust builds up and becomes a thick coating over time, and will cause extra stress on the sticks. So yea its a good idea if its a newer controller.
Granted the person in this video makes the mistake of turning the can on its side, you never do that as the liquid contents will flow out, and may cause frostbite on contact with skin, and that kind of liquid could damage the controller. But only someone inexperienced or stupid would do that.
Very useful video! Haven't tried it out yet, but very relatable. Comparable to fixing cars or patching wounds. Handle with care. Unfortunately, boyfriend has zero patients & goes through at least a controller a week. Thank you for the easy, common sense steps! I'll just have to "borrow" a controller, fix, & return it to him. Lol patients is a virtue. ✌❤☺🏁 Jay
Hey man, i just want to thank you for this, it really works on my controller and i was about to get a new one, well, this feels now like a pretty decent controller and im playing now. Thank you so much
Are the little joysticks the same for both analogues? Could I use the right one from one controller and replace the left one on another controller? This vid was great help... Thanks!
OMGG YOU SAVED ME 60$ my anolog stick is broken now I just need to find a screw driver to undo the front take out the anolog and put it back I LOVE YOU 😍😍
well.. im having this huge headache about controllers so i can play in a deadline short time, ando also short of money. Tried this tuturial, with an old xbox fake controller (wich i have 2!!) :\ and it worked. im amased, cant wait to try it on the rest of the controllers.. so much money wasted. thanks to whoever did this tutorial! i mean it!!!=)
Dont underestimate how well this works. I didnt have the money for compressed air and i just blew with a very dry mouth and it worked on my $280 scuf controller(prolly why i didnt have the money for air)
Here's what I did to fix mine
1 - took a hammer
2 - smashed it
3 - got my keys
4 - drove to the store
5 - bought a new controller

Wow, thanks a lot my man. Just the disassembly bit is already useful enough. My right stick sometimes get stuck in place (physically), turns out one of the gray bracket was detached. Thank god it was not broken/snapped and all I did was snap it back into place. Thanks again!
FAAAAAAAHK, I remember having lots of those little Torx screwdrivers, but I can't find any o them, HECK
OH MY GOD YOU ARE SUCH A LEGEND!!! My controller is fixed and I don't have to pay another 50-60 dollars.
Are you the "here in my garage" guy
red scout Tai Lopez?
Yay this fixed my stick. I wasn't able to Sprint in game. THX!
Xbox One controllers are cheap expect to buy more than one. this video seems helpful but cleansing the anolongs from the inside does nothing. don't take your controller apart
***** it is don't bother taking it your controller apart you'll just ruin it
Anyone with basic common sense and intelligence could take a controller apart and do regular maintenance without ruining it.

Use tweezers
Slide the tweezers between the crack and pop it out by going back and fourth in the crack
use a card
Just rip it out from the trigger it's strong ass plastic
Bitch hands
Before you open it, try to rotate the stick a bit, it solved the drift problem for me.
I used my hands to pull them bits off 😂😂😂
Joshua Holmes shit hurts lol
Are the little joysticks the same for both analogues? Could I use the right one from one controller and replace the left one on another controller? This vid was great help... Thanks!
