Good job, you will do a lot better with a regular pneumatic rock drill (blast hole drill). It will cost you a bit to hire the drill and compressor but you will slam down the holes compared to an electric drill. Take care that you do not breath any of the stone dust and protect your eyes and lungs when using the dexpan.
@thekayfamillybuild Would you recommend Dexpan or Sierra Blaster? My case would be more for stand alone boulders and the occasional rock outcropping that sticks up above grade maybe 10sq ft. I don't think i will be tearing into any hillsides like this
Both are good. Sierra Blaster is definitely the faster/ more satisfying option. But I've had some frustrating times with the Sierra Blaster. Stuff not breaking the way I hoped. Dexpan is just slow. Drilling holes filling everything and walking away for the rest of the day kinda sucks but when you come back, it will be broken up. I've had stuff start breaking up in 3 or 4 hours, but I'd give it at least 12 hours before you start trying to remove anything. What your describing sounds right up Sierra Blasters alley should work for that but you might have some frustrating shots that don't do as much as you want. All that being said, Dexpan is pretty cheap but slow. Sierra blaster is faster but not as good with certain types of rock and situations. I personally like having both. If you want to test out Dexpan on something before you spend the extra money on Sierra blaster, that won't set you back much. There is something very satisfying about blowing up a boulder though! Hopefully, my long-winded response helps. I should probably shoot a comparison video and walk through everything.
@@thekayfamilybuild Wondering how much more effective the 3 head is than the 1 head? Are you able to "direct" the cracks by using the 3 heads effectively? The 1 head is about 1/2 the price.
@joetaddeo1130 for the most part, you can. I've got a 4 head setup and will set up a line to split a rock, and generally it works. There is definitely an art form to blasting that I haven't mastered. The guy's at Sierra blaster are great to work with though. I actually sent some pictures of what I was blasting, and they gave me some pointers on what to look for and how to get going. I would say get more than 1 blast head, even 2 will make a difference.

1: eye protection for the lad, slaked lime can blind you.
2: use a funnel and blow out the holes beforehand, dexpan is expensive
