    It will be great to see some more inspirational videos from you Simon, we love all your earlier ones. It was a pleasure to have you in our workshop making the new keel, you're a good bloke to have around....I think I learned more from you than you learned from me! Our new boat is only a few weeks away from hitting the water, (engine has already been running!) and when it does, we hope to catch up with you .

    Nice video. I used to sail my Noelex 30 in all winds. Great boat. Crank down back stay in high winds and put in a reef and she would charge to windward. That main is huge however requiring care when gybing single handed or with children. Ended up with a Magnum as it's easier to trail and launch and sails very well also. The Noelex 30 is twice the weight of a 25. Mine was 3300 kg completly empty no tackle nothing and it had an outboard. My 25 was 1800kg empty. Cheers

      Hugh, Thanks for the advice, I don't intend to tow it far only 15 k to my Humpy in the Whitsundays in the cyclone season. I will lift it out with a travel lift. I had to push the boat through the night into a twenty + knots southeaster close hauled wind against tide off the Percy's I expected it to suffer structurally it took a hammering, but to my surprise all stayed together. The more I sail it more like it. I won't sell Stratos the my boat to do the big lap. The Magnun is a very nice boat I crewed on one in the Bay to Bay. Safe sailing regards, Simon

      Simon Carter hi The 30 is a much stronger boat everywhere you look . I know 1 sailed to Hobart another to New Guinea from the Gippsland Lakes. Yours with the new Carbon keel should be much stronger. I think the New Zealand built boats were really well made. They are very much a smaller performance keel boat. Incredible boat. Ideally you want something like a Dodge Ram to tow. My Landcruiser did it but ... Once had it pull the cruiser down a ramp!

    What a lovely boat Simon. Whilst it's been a joy to watch you sail up and down the Queensland coast (must be one of the most underrated sailing areas in the world), it is a thrill to watch and hear about the new boat. Cheers

      Jim, thank you for the positive feed back it is a great area to sail I am liking my new boat mainly the space down below and the diesel engine which take some of the variables out of passage making. Safe sailing regards Simon

    Very pleased that you are doing videos again, and looking forward to your new ones. I'm still sailing a PY23, but considering moving to something in the 27-30' range. The extra space and headroom would be nice.

    • @simoncarteroz
      @simoncarteroz  6 років тому

      Peter, The extra space is nice but I still like sailing Stratos and it is easier to trail if my wife does not come out more I may park her up until she retires. regards Simon

    Hi Simon. $55,000 is still a good price for a Noelex 30, especially since it now has a brand new motor and sturdy keel. Doreen will love all the extra space. I noticed it myself, going from the Cole 23 to the RL28. Good luck with it all. Garry, Lyn and Amber.

    Good to see you back, I have a Triton 28 and I do 2800 RPM and I get 5 knots with a 15 hp that has only done 200 hrs ,so I was very surprise that you had to do 3200 RPM and only get 4/5 knots

      Thank you for pointing that out, It took awhile but I ended up adjusting the pitch on the Autostream propeller that made a big difference 2600rpm 5.5 knots 3600rpm around 7 knots , I wish I had your keel weight at times. Safe sailing regards Simon

    Welcome back Simon. Very impressed with the Nolex 30. It must feel like an ocean cruiser spacewise. How on earth did you part with Stratos?

    • @simoncarteroz
      @simoncarteroz  6 років тому +2

      I have not sold Stratos. It is in Hibernation, that is one of the great assets of trailer sailers. In the future I will need two boats, my kids will not want to sail with there parents they will be able to take Stratos with there friends, we will be able to still be able to sail together as a family. Safe sailing Leon regards Simon

    Great to see you back Simon. The boat looks great. Well done. What does she weigh on the trailer.?! Cheers Paul

    • @simoncarteroz
      @simoncarteroz  6 років тому +1

      Paul I don't know the previous owner had the trailer made at Belco Brisbane and had trouble get it down to 3 ton weight but removing rudder chain anchors every other heavy removable item placing back of the car got it down to 3 tons and towed it over to Perth and back ! with a Land-cruiser. I towed it a short distance with my UTE and the Electric Hydraulic Brakes on all four wheel pull it up safely read his blogs by google Artemis Noelex 30.
      Safe sailing, regards Simon

    So there is no metal in the drop keel? It is really a Centreboard? Does the boat have any ballast? Does the Sail Drive cause you any problems on launch and retrieval from the trailer?

    • @simoncarteroz

      Hi Colin the keel weight is 800kg 750 is lead down the bottom, ballast internal No sail drive does not cause any problems Safe sailing regards Simon
