All the E-Flite X-Vert VTOL needs is a crop dusting mode and with that cork-screw you did, I'm sure X-Vert could take on a locust invasion. It's fun to watch, especially with the incredible Avionics, as you said, because it slides into transition without any hesitation and proves again Hi-tech Avionics will fly anything that's in your imagination. Great flight Dave..! PS: I agree too many products are down sized, and in your case, it's like buying a car without a battery. Ssh! SemperFi, Bud
You still have gyro assist in 3D mode. AS3X is still working behind the scenes. Going into 3D mode just turns off the accelerometers, which are different pieces of hardware, and disables the bank/pitch angle limiting SAFE stuff.

So far I've haven't had any prop issues (got spares anyway) but apart from that your video matches my experience to a T, including the late evening outings when all is quiet but kinda dark.
Thanks for a great review and the prop mod tip. I am waiting for the BNF version price to come way down before I buy one though. Too rich for my shallow pockets right now.
Always enjoyed your video Sir! Your 5x4 prop looks bigger than stock prop. Any chance measuring the amp flying with your modified prop? How did the control board handle the extra load, like temperature wise? Great review, thanks!
No way to measure amps easily and it is of no concern. The prop has a wider root and may be a bit wider, but its still a 5x4, and as you saw it fly's fine with them. The board never even got warm, and I never ran the battery dead. Believe me if you fly stock props you will break them eventually, even when it tips over on landing. If you click on the link in the description box, you will see them there. Please do not guess they are not. Indoor flying works best in hover mode. I never fly mine indoors much at all. This is very fast and hard to see in forward flight, so hang on.

Just like on most model airplane engines, the prop shaft are round, so no slot on the shaft is needed. Round is also better because if it hits something, it will spin on the shaft some and may not break. This style motor shaft is why the blades also break easily. Round can give some. The round prop hole fits right over the slotted shaft and it has worked for me since. Thanks. Good question.
@@NightFlyyer I'm having trouble understanding what you wrote. The motor shafts on the X-VERT are slotted. So what you're saying is you screwed in non-slotted props and they work fine?
@@Snecho Exactly! I show it clearly. Cut out slots don't make the shaft bigger, and most of the shaft is still round, so the prop centers. The screws tighten the props down as they screw into the shaft. The props aren't threaded and don't screw on. If you had one, you would understand it better. This video proves it works anyway. Hey Andy. At the moment, not ready for the UMX as it is similar to my Skipper which flies off snow and water, plus I am in a big building project with my 1/4 Scale Nitro Cub with 4 stroke engine. Thanks for the comments and you have a great day and a few extras too.
Greetings Dave ..Yes I like this video of a great flying machine . I was wondering if you have seen the Eachine E 500 .. That's the P.M.V of this model (poor mans version). It would make for a great comparison video. Happy Landings Chris...
I already had a crash with a tree, but the props didn´t break; they deformed only a little bit. But the problem was, that the gyro got a wrong information, because the props wobbled. So I bought new one from the same kind, and the x-vert flies like a new one. So I saw the green one, as you demonstrated in the video. Are they stronger than the white one, do the make a better drive; that´s what I wanted to know. Thank you very much.
You got lucky. Yes they are stronger. If you look at the video the stock props (maybe they changed them now) are thin at the hub. Many many told me they broke their stock ones, including me.
So I thank you for the information and I would do it like I do: don´t start from the meadow or other surface. Take it in your hands and start it from there...the same for landing...catch him, he will never fall over and you have no stress. Even my propeller protection broke.. Thank you! ua-cam.com/video/Vu3Rhx0X1Ck/v-deo.html
Thanks for upload, sir I have made tailsitter vtol my self, I found problem that plane unstable in cross wind and unstable in vertical landing if done more fast. Let me known, Is there same kind of problem in your vtol.
I love my X-Vert, but when I go through the acro mode switching procedure, after taking off and going to mode 2 the motors quit and it drops out of the sky. I know I am doing the procedure correctly. Is there a hack on the main control board for this?
I guess I am not sure what you mean. Does it crash. It is supposed to go back into hover mode to land. If not, your TX is not set up to the program parameters in the manual. If it is, better call horizon. Good luck.
After I go through the procedure to enable acro mode, you know, power on the radio (the Spectrum that came with it) and the X-Vert, then hold the sticks down and in while trowing the mode switch three times, this is what happens: The X-Vert does go through the initialization quivers and tone to signal the mode change, I take off successfully in VTOL to a safe altitude where I throw the switch for airplane mode. The motors quit and it falls to the ground. There is no transition to horizontal flight. I'm beginning to think they sold two variants, one with acro capability and one without.
That is definitely not right. Call horizon help line and tell them. Something is wrong. I am not using the radio that came with it, as I am using my DX 8 Gen II, so don't know about your TX. I'm sure they can figure it out. Let me know. Good luck.
I also have a Taranis QX-7 with and IRX-4+ plugged in the back I use with my UMX Timber. I'd try the QX-7 but I can't find the channel assignments for the X-Vert.
Yes, I have had quite a few Lou Andrews Aeromasters over years, as I won the Multiwing Nationals with them twice. I love the way it looks and flies. The Xvert is definitely an orientation challenge, and why I put lights on it as I show in later vids. Thanks much and happy flying;.
Nice video, I hoped to get one before now but I havent. I hope to soon I think it be fun in the yard or at the park. thanks for the tip on the better props
I appreciate your comments. You will find those green props I used are hard to break. The stock props break when it tips over on landing, and the green ones never have, as they have big roots. You will love it, as it is something different.
its baltantly the most simple design for VTOL(seem not more complex than quadcopter) so the question is why usmc developed tilt rotor & not this (who existed in the 1960 Ryan X-13 Vertijet) is a con for they release a 1S 3.7V model ? what the vertical autonomy ? how crash the frame can sustain (i guess critical size is more than 30cm 100gram) i broked a same material & size plane after less than ten crash on grass (despit wings got an carbon fiber insert) when syma X5 clones resisted dozen of 20m full throtle crash on concrete without a blade broken (never reached to break X5's at all in fact)
mr herbert. how can i send you a 90 nitro helicopter? i dont use it any more .i live in greece. please if you are intrested answer me so we can Exchange info .thanks in advance.
Not strange at all, as it tips over all the time when landing in the grass and easily breaks the props. See my other videos where I explain it more and show where you can get stronger props. It is plenty fast and not for beginners.
Yes, that was all me and a blast. 10 rolls and you dont know where you are when you stop, so just have to keep flying to see where it goes and compensate. It wont hover in switch position 2 ( 3D mode) as it's just full elevons and motors, like my flying wings. In switch 1 position, you get some gyro assist and it makes for very smooth flying. It wont roll or loop or hover in that position either. Switch position 0 is only for hovering and there is a lot of gyro control there for sure. Those elevons really work!. Thanks again.
well, just looked it up and to me all it does is hint to that the accelerators are off though gyros aren't mentioned: Acro Mode (switch position 2*) Acro mode is intended for experienced pilots who are comfortable flying the aircraft in any orientation. • Receiver LED green and red • No bank angle limits • No self levelling when the controls are centered • Fully aerobatic capable I have no AS3X Model with "Save" only a FBL heli (180cfx) which has no level mode but only gyros doing their job. That's why I am asking^^
There is very slight assist in Position 2, but believe me you need to know how to fly in that position, as gyros, will not save you. I learned to fly helicopters before there were gyros 40 years ago, so flying this for me was a piece of cake, but fast. It glides very nicely too. IN Switch 1 position, it will not roll or loop, so you cant get in trouble like you can in position 2. Guess you will find out soon enough. Good luck.

I just might get there UMX FQ7 Striker do you have any plans on reviewing that plane? Bty great video hope you have a good day.
Happy Landings
Chris...
Again a question: What´s the advantage of the modified props? (Faster, more safe, stronger) ? Thank you!
They don't break as easy as the stock ones, that break when it tips over on landing in the grass or hard surface, as it tips over very easy on grass.
Thank you!

I do not understand spoken English, so I'd like you to explain better how to adapt the new propellers at the X-Vert
Directional Thrust? For some reason I could barely hear you.
Yep. Sorry. Sometimes the program adjusts the volume automatically wrong. I hope you got the point though!.
Thanks again.
NightFlyyer trekka
reminds me of those 1950s, 60s, and 70s tailsitter VTOL designs.
That thing is cool great vid
Thanks very much David!
It's a cool idea looks like fun👍
You have an Aeromaster. Why bother with anything else? I think the X-Vert needs a fin - for orientation.
You will love it, as it is something different.
its baltantly the most simple design for VTOL(seem not more complex than quadcopter)
so the question is why usmc developed tilt rotor & not this (who existed in the 1960 Ryan X-13 Vertijet)
is a con for they release a 1S 3.7V model ?
what the vertical autonomy ?
how crash the frame can sustain (i guess critical size is more than 30cm 100gram)
i broked a same material & size plane after less than ten crash on grass (despit wings got an carbon fiber insert)
when syma X5 clones resisted dozen of 20m full throtle crash on concrete without a blade broken (never reached to break X5's at all in fact)
also will 5040 props fit? whats the difference between 5040 and 5040R ?
Looks fun but I am concerned about breaking it.
what prop mod did you use?
mr herbert. how can i send you a 90 nitro helicopter? i dont use it any more .i live in greece. please if you are intrested answer me so we can Exchange info .thanks in advance.
Flies like an Air Hogs Switchblade (2009)
Haha. Maybe in forward flight, sort of. I did a product review years ago for Airhogs on the Switchblade.
serious skills
Thanks Robert. I appreciate that!
Strange that you left the prop guards on, thats for indoor flight and reduces overall thrust when outdoor that you could use ! Gr8 review tho thanks!
Not strange at all, as it tips over all the time when landing in the grass and easily breaks the props. See my other videos where I explain it more and show where you can get stronger props. It is plenty fast and not for beginners.
This is 1 lil bird I've gotta have!!
You will love it. Thanks.
where did you get the good props from?
i saw where. thanks for your time

@@NightFlyyer thanks.do the prop adapters com with the props??
@@jamesturncliff5960 Yes, they did with mine.
the machine you invented 30years ago seem more atractive (else cosmetic)
why you do not commercialised it ?
Are you sure there is no gyro assist in "3d mode"?
Yes, that was all me and a blast. 10 rolls and you dont know where you are when you stop, so just have to keep flying to see where it goes and compensate. It wont hover in switch position 2 ( 3D mode) as it's just full elevons and motors, like my flying wings. In switch 1 position, you get some gyro assist and it makes for very smooth flying. It wont roll or loop or hover in that position either. Switch position 0 is only for hovering and there is a lot of gyro control there for sure. Those elevons really work!. Thanks again.
Ps. The manual also points out there is no gyro assist in position 2😊
well, just looked it up and to me all it does is hint to that the accelerators are off though gyros aren't mentioned: Acro Mode (switch position 2*)
Acro mode is intended for experienced pilots who are comfortable flying the aircraft in any orientation.
• Receiver LED green and red
• No bank angle limits
• No self levelling when the controls are centered
• Fully aerobatic capable
I have no AS3X Model with "Save" only a FBL heli (180cfx) which has no level mode but only gyros doing their job. That's why I am asking^^
will unbox mine and look/hear for elevon movement in Mode 2 when I wiggle it around... I guess that's the easiest way to find out.
Good luck.
My Airsrew is broken and no one is able to deliver a new one !
So it became useless !
I tell exactly how to replace props in this video and you can also buy stock ones from Horizon, which will make it fly again.
No, sorry, airsrews are not available !
( not here in europe / germany )
It´s a shame.

This vid is fake, no one can actually activate the motors.
Haha. I assure you I do not fake videos and this one is genuine. Shame on you for that comment. I can do everything I said and this is living proof. You obviously do no watch my videos. What do you mean Activate anyway? Is that a PC term? Turning them on is activating them!
