Hint for 2nd-coating (from someone with a LOT of experience): tint the paint (or better, use a different color) so places you missed will be easily spotted.
I have to admit, I’m such a huge dork. When I saw your new vid, yelled out loud: “WINDOWS?!! No way!” I really enjoy following the progress you two are making, thanks for the smiles and, self realization of dork status🤪
It appears you put the slider window backwards? Windows with a nailing flange (new construction) are installed from the outside, so they drain to the outside. Right now, all the water that hits the window will drain to the inside and in to your straw. Look for the drain slots.
what a spectacular sunset! Congratulations on each post painted and each window installed. That much closer to your goal. It caused me a chuckle when you said re removed the weeds from the house. You don't hear that everyday.
Tip. Use two toys when teaching your dog to fetch. When he brings the first one back show him the second one in your hand and he will drop the first one. I've taught many dogs this way.
I was glad to see that in the end you put the black window in right. The first part of the video was screaming windows get put on from the outside then you put it in from the inside but in the end I see you corrected it and changed it so alls good great job
Windows are supposed to be secured by the flange from the outside of the frame. Then taped off/sealed to prevent water leaks.... I hope y'all catch that before it's too late.
Wow, you two have almost broken 100k subs. I've been praying for you. The build is moving right along. I appreciate your perseverance. I'm looking forward to seeing how the thermalmass of the straw bails compares to the cob bags of the dome. ❤ Heep up the great work.
It is to bad that you don't have enough friends close by to be able to take turns helping each other out. Hopefully you can stay strong & healthy enough to finish you dream house. You are working hard & doing a great job. I wish i could help. Happy New Year.
Wow! Your place is really coming along. You two are an inspiration! Happy New Year! Wishes for health, peace and prosperity in the days and months to come!
Are you gonna make a livable section in your greenhouse for a sitting area. For morning coffee and and a few flowers around to smell . That would be a nice space to relax Dearing the day ??????? . That would be a cool place to get togater in a sarin place while planing for next projects . Also a nice place to have lunch and dinner tea time . I would love to have a greenhouse + the sitting tea time 😊❤🎉😊😊😊
kind lady.your old man's eternal happiness is is infectious. you are looking happier. keep it up sir. always sending good thoughts out for you to grab when ever. just reach up and grab. you'll feel it. o k no more woo woo.
So excited to see the windows in. You have the most beautiful sunsets. God blessing for 2025 and may you accomplish everything you set out to do for the year. Greetings to Peter too. Have not seen or heard from him in a while. 🙏❤️
@@elainedegoede6276 … and while we talk about absent friends, when you first moved up there you had a lady on your team, too. What became of her? I seem to remember she had health problems?
So happy to see Jess's tender love and care for creamhead worked out and she is already back with the flock with no issues. Your rooster really is such a handsome fellow and he's got some impressive dancing skills. Loved the big smiles from Jess seeing the windows installed, it's got to feel great to see your hard work paying off Jim. She's getting that cob work on the bales so smooth and even it's looking so good! She definitely has the knack for mixing and applying it. I think I'll pass on watching the paint drying video lol but I know that painting all those boards has to be tedious to do. I'm still wondering how you're going to work around the root cellar, flooring inside, the greenhouse and that unfinished rounded end of the house I know you'll have a plan that ties it all together. Have a great week ❤
Here in California I bought used windows from Habitat for Humanity warehouse. Super good deal. Not sure if they or a recycler are available for you. Looks great. You guys never lose sight of your objectives.
"The Domestead". I like it! Thanks for sharing this weeks video with us here on You Tube! Love your channel. You are very good caring people and it's nice to see..............
Dude, use a mini roller and a 5 gal bucket. Use a roller screen in the 5 gal bucket. Not a finger roller, it's full size but shorter. End of the day simply put the lid on the bucket with screen and roller inside. A mini roller and 4 inch brush I'll knock out all that painting in a couple hours.
I thought they would finish the dome inside and out, including the downstairs bedroom, and make it livable so they could move in full time with kitchen, bath and the whole nine yards before moving on to other projects.
Original plans had a second dome, but the straw bale structure went up so much faster, and is better designed for things like kitchen appliances and greenhouse panels both of which are based on rectangular architecture. I think they made a good choice.
All of your work is making more & more sens, pls do'nt change anything (or at least not to much) ....No doubt the "suite" is going to be "touching" our heart more & more too Be good & happpy new year to all ..
Love what you're doing on your channel. Missed content opportunity, Jim singing the song, 'Tumbling Tumbleweed' when he was cleaning out the tumbleweeds from the house!!
Best to install them now instead of leaving them sit around where they could get broken. You can clean them after all is said and done. Maybe putting Bible wrap on the glass panes will help protect them against blowing debri if a wind storm comes?
Checking in! We are coming from Va to the Gem show.. then off to Austin... We might have a day to visit and help out on the way. ( FEB 20th) IF interested, reply!
i dont know how much sun that side with the windows sees but your going to want to watch that . dry straw and sun light through glass sometimes gets a little warm . maybe im wrong dont know but would hate to see a fire now that you have done so much work .
Have you considered holding a cob training workshop? I recently saw “Tiny Shiny” do one on earthbag construction. They had a good turn out. Seems like the need in your area would a win/win.
I used to paint houses inside and out and you could probably tell I'm going to say "use a roller for instead of a brush, it goes faster. It's just a suggestion. you look like you have your habit of painting in check and that's all that matters.
It's looking so good. I'm sitting here thinking 🤔 WOW 😳 when did all of this happen. I don't miss many of your videos but dang I feel like I'm behind somehow.
Ugh I lived in AZ for 4 years and I do not miss the tumbleweeds at all. Those things just explode out of the ground and they scratch you like crazy when you pull them. No thank you! Of course I'll take the haboobs and dry heat over the tornadoes and humidity we have here in the deep south. 😅
Hey buddy how you doing today looks like you're doing a good job keep up the good work hey Jess how you doing hope you're doing a good job you're doing good God bless you
You’ve been painting for at least two weeks. Seems to me you spend more time playing with the dog and taking walks than you do working. I imagine you take quite a few naps in the day too.
I'm curious about the window install method. Looks like you installed the windows with the flange on the inside. I've always seen that on the outside. Is there a reason for that?
Yes, normally that would be a great suggestion but this construction is so "unorthodox" that there is absolutely no place where that tape would make any difference. That black window appeared to be installed "from the inside" initially but was "on the outside" at the end of the video. In spite of that, there is no "sheeting" on the outside of the perimeter walls to tie all of the framing together and no "membrane" to repel moisture so I'm patiently watching to see what "miracle" is going to be applied to make this structure "water tight" ??? For someone with any building experience, this is kinda "painful" to watch. There are so many "no-no's" being done here where they experience very heavy rains and strong winds. I'm hoping for some "saving idea" to materialize but the mold is cast I'm afraid with the almost flat roof, almost no bracing, and very minimal framing in general. Hope it all works out !!!
Hint for 2nd-coating (from someone with a LOT of experience): tint the paint (or better, use a different color) so places you missed will be easily spotted.
Great idea ..I'll do that on mine !
I thought it was supposed to be white for the greenhouse.
I have to admit, I’m such a huge dork. When I saw your new vid, yelled out loud: “WINDOWS?!! No way!” I really enjoy following the progress you two are making, thanks for the smiles and, self realization of dork status🤪
Yes, I'm far more interested in the building than I am in the dog. Probably in a very small minority, I guess.
Yeah shoulda installed Linuxes instead 😂😂
Enjoy your Sunday posts. I hope your home becomes everything you want it to be.
Wow, with those windows it's starting to look like a real house! Nice work!!!!
Great job. I grew up in an adobe house and every summer we had to re-plastered the walls. I missed that and the smell of wet earth. 😊
It appears you put the slider window backwards? Windows with a nailing flange (new construction) are installed from the outside, so they drain to the outside. Right now, all the water that hits the window will drain to the inside and in to your straw. Look for the drain slots.

Jim and Jess good to see the progress you are making. Hope you will get to move in this year.
Wow, you guys just keep going, so admirable! Literally sculpting a home with a green house and cisterns in the middle of the desert! So impressive!

This is another exciting day on the homestead. Y'all are getting things done. It sure looks amazing.
I'm glad you puzzled out that windows are usually installed from the outside. - Tony.

It's so fun to see the progress happen as you both bring this dream to reality!! It's going to be awesome when you're done!
Don't forget that the Chicken manure is gold for your garden.
Here in California I bought used windows from Habitat for Humanity warehouse. Super good deal. Not sure if they or a recycler are available for you. Looks great. You guys never lose sight of your objectives.
I’m glad to see creamhead made a full recovery and is back with the flock 🐓
Great work. I really enjoyed watching the progress you two make. Thank you for sharing your progress.

Been with you all since you started building the dome y'all have come such a long way but I really miss the longer videos

Looking great love when you guys have a new video wish i could be there helping
I like to see paint dry. You pull up a chair and drink a beer. It is awesome!

I really enjoy your videos I wish you could make them longer. You two are great narrators. Great looking house.
It's looking more and more like a house! So exciting :)
i dont know how much sun that side with the windows sees but your going to want to watch that . dry straw and sun light through glass sometimes gets a little warm . maybe im wrong dont know but would hate to see a fire now that you have done so much work .
Omg windows wow that’s awesome can’t wait for that finish line
The windows should be put on from the outside so you can seal the edges
Have you considered holding a cob training workshop? I recently saw “Tiny Shiny” do one on earthbag construction. They had a good turn out. Seems like the need in your area would a win/win.
Hun I think you still should make headers for those
Just finished painting deck timber grey we will oil the top decking boards. I used a small roller it was so much quicker. Love your work
Paint drying lol nope I know your joking. It is coming together so fast. Happy New Year❤
Love to see you hard work paying off ❤
Time saver tip…At end of day wrap your brushes in plastic bag & place in freezer..saves cleaning brushes..
You have accomplished so much in this cold season! It is really coming along!Great job guys! Happy New Years!😊
Great progress and I love desert sunsets. Thank you for sharing ❤
If you consider decluttering the same as deweeding, then, yes, I seem to do that a lot 😁🤣 Thanks as always for sharing
Thats a mating dance. All Bantams do it! Is so cool
Good progress but a lot of work to be done. Spesiale the clay work. Stay strong❤❤❤❤
You are getting a lot done. It's looking great!

Hi Jim & Jess. I was wondering if you will be stuffing straw in the gaps? Or using sections of bales? I might save on mud plaster that way
That sunset was GORGEOUS!
Lookin good!

My thoughts too. All the windows I’ve ever saw were installed from the outside.

Comment prior to watching: hoping that you will use that window waterproofing tape before installing the windows themselves. 🤞🏽
