- This is a Japanese port of an American port of a Japanese sequel.
Originally released in 1994 in Japan, Motor Toon Grand Prix 2, unlike its predecessor, had a version released in America and Europe as well.
The American port was then released back in Japan in 1996 as Motor Toon Grand Prix 2: USA Edition, making it one of the very few games ever made to be ported back (re-ported? re-imported? reverse uno? who knows).
If anyone knows the differences between the first Japanese release and this one, please write in the comments.

Oh, that is easy. There was the original Motor Toon Grand Prix in Japan. But it was more like something to toy around with, more like a tech demo, and no real effort to make it a full fledged fun racer. So it got worked around several corners and released as just Motor Toon Grand Prix in America. But it was still a different game at that point and bringing it to Japan needed the title addition "USA Edition". In Europe they got it released as Motor Toon Grand Prix 2 to avoid this confusion, when the actual first game was never released in Europe at all.
So there are technically two games. The real Motor Toon GP, only released in Japan. And the second game released under different monikers in different areas.
MTGP USA Edition in Japan.
Simply MTGP in the US since the first game never made it there.
As MTGP2 in Europe when they knew about the first game but also never seen a release of it.
Now that is confusing maybe.
Instead they should remaster it, build the stuff from the first game into it as bonus and extra tracks and call it Motor Toon Grand Prix the Real Edition, or something like that.

This game is one of those gems, happy I got this as a kid, really fun and pretty difficult game when going for the secret unlockables.
First game I ever played on the PS1. I remember treating the first circuit like GTA - driving around slowly over the entire island finding shortcuts and odd things. I picked up about 20 coins one time and managed to cheese the bomb symbol out of every spin. Lay all those bombs in one spot and drive into it = a trip to outer space. Thanks for the trip down ol' memory lane!

Never understood the purpose of "Power Up", still have no clue what it actually does.
I have 5 racing games for the playstation. Wipeout and ridge racer and jet moto and 1xtreme. And this racing game motor toon grand prix.
