    don’t need the sim, i’ve got several years as a heli pilot in battlefield 4 lol
    edit: aha. it’s been like a year and a half since i left this comment. ended up getting a tinyhawk 2 just a few days ago. never realised that i had always piloted in battlefield 4 with yaw and roll inverted, so that has still gotta adjust lol

    I love this whole series Steele... great job ... I got into the hobby a couple months ago so this series didn’t exist but luckily I followed your instructional series without even knowing it. QX7 -> simulator -> brushed whoop -> goggles / charger ... I went to a 3” first (babyhawk R 3”), then a mobula7, now I’ve got some flight time under my belt, and Now im collecting 5” parts

    Thanks for this video series! Watching your videos back in 2017-18 inspired me to get into fpv. I purchased all the best equipment and built a great spec quad, for the time, and went out and flew it.....and I was terrible at it. Never tried a sim, never new really where to start and got discouraged quickly and gave up. After watching this series i have decided to try and learn to walk before i run. I appreciate all the info

    I jumped straight into a 5” alien with quality parts, a taranis, fat shark dominator HD’s and an icharger. My friend creeped into the hobby with multiple radios, goggles, cheap builds and cheap chargers. At this point we have been flying the same amount of time but he has spent nearly double what I have l and isn’t as good because he switched equipment so much. Sometimes diving right in and going for it is the best option!

      I have a UR65, Mobula7, an Beebrain lite. The lite flys just like the UR65. But it gets better flight times. And nano brushless motors have bushings not ball bearings. They wear out after about 10hrs, and are $40 to replace. The brushed motors last 5hrs and are $20. So the cost is the same. Only big difference is turtle mode. But having to get up and flip your quad is how you learn not to crash. Making things easy is ok, but removing the frustration of learning doesn't help.

      Ye, Steele gives bad advice time to time, he doesn't look from others perspective and only gives advice on what is best for him. Like the time when he was helping a guy making his quad lighter and took his motor bumpers because they added weight to the quad..
      Here is a message for you Steele(don't take it serious): Everyone crashes with their quads, some more then others (even my self).
      Some have money to replace their motors every day, some have sponsors( like your self), but most of us/your viewers aren't so fortunate like you.. Direct hit on the pavement, a bumper will make the motor almost indestructible. Without it, you can pretty much sign off the motor( ye some times you can get away with replacements, it's a hassle and aren't cheep either). I'm telling this based on my own experience: in few months i broke/bent three sets of motors (two of the crashes were free falls from no more than 20 ft), since i'm using bumpers i didn't bent one motor. i became way comfortable flying my quad thus drastically improved my flying skills over short period of time.
      I'm not saying your intentions aren't good, they just might not be good for the majority..
      Peace!

    Another good thing about the whoop class, at any stage in your doc is you have a lot more opportunities to fly it, if the weather is bad or you don't feel like driving somewhere you can just zoom round your house or your garden, garden being weather dependent

    Just asked and got a diatone d90 for christmas, glad I went the right way on that, going to get a 5 inch soon.
    On a side note, I had bought a flysky fs-i6s for sim, and had a lot of issues with it. Remembering your video, I bought a qx7 and wish I started with that. It has had no flaws, and is way more responsive and tunable. Keep the videos coming! Hope I can catch something like that before I miss it!

  • @CaptainSloose

    Also about brushed whoops, they lack the punch and recoverability of a big quad - brushless leaves more room for error. I might recommend the tinyhawk or mobula7. I feel like the mobula flies a LOT like my bigger stuff just without the inertia and mass (and more propwash)

    • @thelazerproject
      @thelazerproject 6 років тому +1

      Jim Reinknecht yep, and now the eachine trashcan is even better, I don’t know why he recommended the brushed ones

    • @CaptainSloose
      @CaptainSloose 6 років тому

      Jk231 I’m waiting for my trashcan to make the call on better vs the mobula... the mobula isn’t without its issues (fragile-ish frame) but it takes a beating, and it’s a rocket. If I could just sort out the battery sag, I’d actually prefer it over my 3” stuff

    • @kenchenfpv3568
      @kenchenfpv3568 6 років тому

      @@thelazerproject it is the durability and all-rounded usability for especially new people coming into the hobby that Steele is getting at. There is a lot that a Tiny whoop can do, some it cannot do, but it teaches you to become a better pilot--it flies well, but you need to for instance avoid propwash bc brushed motors freak out in propwash--something you can apply to when you go into FPV in real life. It also allows you to explore more and fly more things, underneath the couch, through the struts in a stool--things that you don't notice usually, but then in the goggles you soon gain that confidence and awareness to fly them--same thing done on a five inch is like finding a tree split that you can pull a sick knife edge through.

    Man Steel, these brushed motor haters are strong here. I have a BBlite and know of what you speak. Brushless indoor FPV is hard. With all that power comes a need for good control. Something a beginner lacks. You start banging around the house with a 75mm TinyHawk, Mobula7, or even a UR65. Your going to break stuff. 6mm brushed whoops are the best indoor FPV rig hands down. And the Beebrain lite is the best 6mm whoop ever.

    I enjoy my Acro bee. It has all of the FPV features of a larger quad and flys very well indeed. I go through brushed motors rather quickly so buy spares, props and a handful of batterys too. My next step is a brushless nano probably a Tiny Hawk but I doubt I will ever stop flying the Acro bee, it's brilliant.

Not to mention the New Bee Drone guys are huge contributers to the hobby and deserve our support! I went the micro way to start out. Got an inductrix for Christmas and put an aio cam in it. I skipped the simulator and learned to fly acro on the inductrix, got pretty good and eventually upgraded to a babyhawk r 3 inch during the summer because im in canada and wanted to stay below 250g and wasn't ready to build my own quad from scratch. It took me a while to get used to the power of a brushless quad on 4s so i limited my throttle curve on my transmitter to 35% to start out. Its a big jump from being used to flying at 80% throttle just to stay in the air, to being able to launch into the sky at 20%
    Flying via monitor isnt too bad either, ive been flying off of a 4.3inch monitor mounted on my transmitter for a year and i find it is a very easy to focus. I just ordered my first pair of box goggles with a removable screen yesterday after trying a guys goggles at an indoor flying event.

    Hey dude, i started getting into fpv with this series, first i wanna thank you. I've been trying to get into fpv for years but always felt like it had to be a multiple months/over $1k commitment, which always turned me off. Until you separated that into the steps you did. So far i got a Taranis Q X7 and i've been flying on lift off for 3 days. It's amazing i am starting to feel more confident about it. I've been looking into the drone, unfortunately the drone you have listed here and linked is sold out. I visited a local hobby shop and the guy said he had nothing that would pair with the Taranis and he doubted anyone did since it was and i quote "Trash" i figured it was just the sales guy in him so i ignored it. However it left me in a weird place where i dont feel like i know enough to buy a drone and have it not even pair with my radio. could you point me in the directions of a few drones that would work easily with the Taranis brand. Thank you and keep up the hard work i love the content and it makes me more excited to have my full set.

That was in horizon mode though, next outdoors flight Il try it in acro, but that'll require more fiddling as the rates ive now set feel aweful in acro

    Hey Steele, question for you!
    I already got a 5'' quad. I also got an Inductrix pro to fly indoors.
    I love the 5'' quad and will continue to fly it of course. However, I want to fly in the house too, but my inductrix is very problematic... the VTX is broken after a major crash, and the thing even has problems to liftoff now, so I can't even fly it in los. Even when it takes off, it sometimes start making a weird noise and start to descend pretty rapidly, it's like one of the motors has a seizure. I would have to put money into that thing, but I'm not sure I really want to repair it.
    The new bee drone looks nice, but I was thinking of getting a tiny indoors brushless drone. I hate brushed motors. Would you have any recommendation for a brushless, indoors quad? Ideally with prop guards because I don't want to ruin everything in my house whenever I crash lol. Ideally something that runs of 2S batteries as I hate the little 1S's connector with a passion. Plus I need a dedicated 1S charger as my regular lipo charger only does 2s and up...
    Second question I would also like building a

      @@KlownFPV Don't rush yourself mate, I have only been flying about 6 months, spent a lifetime in the simulator, I prefer Freerider recharged, they have just added a course builder its great. I only use it as my PC is old and low performance graphics and it runs freerider perfect. On my first genuine flight I was doing split s's and power loops. I still have a long way to go, but the longer you stay with the sim and the more confidence you build the more you will save in the long run. Money that is. Remember crashing in the sim doesn't cost a penny . :) And think about it if your a gamer and comfortable with the games controller maybe you would be better of with the Xlite transmitter. Its Frsky same as the QX7 and it has Hall effect gimbals worlds apart from the analogue ones in the QX7.

    ok, i've got the taranis qx7 and the newbeedrone acrobee... i think it bound them correctly, as the red blinking led suggests... but from there on, nothing happens - i can't get the propellers to rotate... I can't make anything move... i must be missing a step... I've got the battery plugged on the acrobee, and on the QX7, i've set a model (active, with the star next to it), and in that model, page 2, i gave it a model name "acrobee", and on the same page, i set the internal RF mode to "D8", and the ch.range is untouched "ch1-8" and the receiver [Bnd] beeped until the solid red led started blinking again... then i press exit a few times... and then nothing happens, whatever i do. I can move all commands, switches in all combinations... nada. Any help for anyone who ever reads this in the next 50 years will be welcome.

  • @danacandella5416

    Regarding the hair. It's not the drone flying into hair. It's hair flying into the drone. If you turtle it a lot which is something you will do when you are new and flying indoors, hair and carpet threads gets sucked into the props and winds themselves around the shafts. I had to pull the props off to remove hair and carpet threads after almost every battery change during the first couple of days. If all 4 props are not spinning equally at idle after arming then you probably have hair or carpet threads stuck between the prop and the motor. It doesn't take much to make it unflyable. Also if flight times are low one or more props are most likely getting hung up.

      From what I've seen about those they aren't much better than what you'd get at wal-mart it might work to get your feet wet but, I would recommend if you can spend more get something like a jumper t8sg v2 or qx7 with a multimodule to be able to fly anything out there and have a decent tx you'd then need some sort of quad and goggles there is an endless amount of cheap box goggles and tiny whoop style quads out there just do some research I know a lot of people like the eachine ev800 for a cheaper goggle and I think betafpv make some good cheaper whoop style quads but, in the end it'll be around $200 with the jumper or $250 with the qx7 minimum but, you'll have a tx that will allow you to grow in the hobby and you really can't get a good experience in FPV for any less than that, you could maybe save a little bit more if you can DIY some stuff but, not much and I wouldn't recommend having to tune, solder etc. for someone that hasn't been into rc for some time and knows their way around a soldering iron and what kind of things they'd need to buy.

      Zach Curfiss damm, you should have bought the wizard x220hv, a 6s newer version, and lower the rates so you dont get the “DEATH ROLL”, yep, it makes everything better than the x220, since you bought it, first of all, change the camera, its too narrow on the normal one, and then you can upgrade it, to the point you become a good pilot and then you buy a better one ;)
