The Dash 8s were a favorite in my childhood. I do hope some of them will be sold to railway museum’s to remind fans like myself of the glory day of Dash 8s.
Several have, such as UP 1848 and NS 3563. BNSF 539 and CN 2150 were recent donations, and supposedly, BNSF 871 and 888 are being held for preservation together.
Lol I could've used someone like you on one of my wikis a few years back. I enjoyed your sense of humor and how well documented everything was. However, I no longer regularly edit on the wikis (Locomotive Wiki and Trains And Locomotives Wiki), but I still enjoyed this video.
As for CSX, 7300-7396 were sold to GECX. FCCA units 1033-1034 is ex-CSX. Pan Am Railways had 6 units, which is ex-CSX. Some set to be rebuilt as a C40-8WM. For UP, some C40-8Ws and C41-8Ws were sold to GECX. More here about C40-8: en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/GE_Dash_8-40C
Enjoyed the video! The B40-8Ws still show up from time to time on the Thayer Sub (Springfield, MO to Memphis,TN ex-Frisco mainline) on BNSF trains. One Dash 7 you omitted at the beginning of the video was the C36-7 which are very cool locomotives in their own right. Also enjoyed the funny bits you added there to. For a minute there I thought you were going to pull a Masakox and yell UNSUBSCRIBE, lol! Can't wait for the GP60 video! Subscribed to your channel too!
Understandably, they are getting a little bit old. Railroads seem to prefer the newer and more efficient Evolution Series or even some of the older Dash 9's. Still, these C40-8W's have had a good long run, and to some they will be dearly missed.
Awesome video I really love this series and I can’t wait to see what it brings I have really loved -8s for a while now and my favourite engines are standard cab C40-8s thank you for sharing!
THERE WAS ALSO ONE GENERAL ELECTRIC OWNED TEST BED 4 AXLE LOCOMOTIVE AS WELL! IT WAS IN AT&SF BLUE AND YELLOW, BUT DID NOT HAVE THE SANTA FE NAME ON THE ENGINE ROOM DOORS!! I AM THINKING IT WAS EITHER 7400 OR 7401!! I WAS WORKING AT THE ARGENTINE DIESEL SHOP AT THE TIME ALL THIS STARTED HAPPENING! I ALSO GOT TO TAKE A ROAD TRIP ON THE 7410 WHEN IT WAS BRAND NEW!! WE MADE ONE STOP ON A DOWNHILL GRADE MAKING HEAVY USE OF THE DYNAMIC BRAKES! IT WAS QUITE IMPRESSIVE WITH THE DYNAMIC BRAKE GRID BLOWERS SCREAMING LIKE BANSHEES!! KEEP THEM ROLLING BROTHERS!! 👍👍
I've always believed the standard cab dash 8-40Cs were some of the most handsome looking locomotives ever designed. They had classic locomotive looks with a high tech futuristic next generation construction. They told the railroad community a change was coming, and soon a new king would be on the throne of locomotive dominance. I will always be a hard core EMD fan......but I always new the dash 8 was the beginning of the end for EMD supremacy.
6:57 that's the loco I chose as my profile picture! The ATSF Warbonnet wide cab Dash 8s and Dash 9s are some of my favorite locomotives. Particularly 533, 910, 642, 670, and 838. The B40-8W being my favorite of the three since ATSF was the only original owner
We now have a B40-8W in preservation! BNSF donated 537 to the railroading heritage of Midwest America museum. I hope a C40 variant from BNSF will meet the same fate.
A b40-8w in BNSF warbonnet bright red and silver was on a BNSF freight yesterday in Temple Texas posted here on UA-cam from the texas railfan UA-cam account
Cool video dude 😎👍 the General Electric dash 8 is the coolest locomotive they ever made 🙂👍 it's cool that Norfolk southern, Burlington northern, union pacific, LMX, southern pacific, Santa Fe, Amtrak and other railroads companies got all the different dash 8 locomotives 👍 it sucks that the B40-8W wasn't selling good 😔 but at least the train companies kept the locomotive 🙂👍 and that part with triple C's reactions was funny 😂😅😆🤣😹 and awesome 😎👍 and the Leslie RS3L air horn sounds cool 😀 but overall no matter what happens to these dash 8 locomotives they have served the railroad through the years well and they will be in the hearts of the ATSF and BNSF railways 👍👍👍👍👍👍
And i missed the c40/41-8ws they made up my childhood and the most favorite is up's but no matter what happens to those legendary dash 8s whatever they are put into storage, sold to another operator or leasing companies or scrapped and there are some still in service as of today they still live on as part of a railfan's memories and also me.
Hopefully atleast one of these wide cab units if spared for preservation and if so, returned to its original livery(whether it be a faded unit receiving their first fresh coat of warbonnet paint in a while, or being reverted back to Warbonnet livery).
See I knew I remembered seeing GE engines with EMD trucks when I was little. It's just that back when I was 8 I had no idea that EMD made the trucks and GE made the locomotives lol. Or maybe they are GE trucks that look very similar to the EMD HTCs
That you showed for a sample why railroads are not satisfied with B-B deiseil locomotives instead they are favouring C-C deiseil locomotives from both EMD and GE
Great information I'm a die hard ATSF fan and not to happy with the orange ( sa la ve). Thank you for explaining the wording of GE locomotives unlike EMDs it's not easy.
BNSF decommissioned all C40-8W's during 2014 & 2015.They didn't want to rebuild them. Originally they were up for retirement in 2010,but then in 2013 more power was required.Tons of them for only two to three years were pulled out of storage and rebuilt for the time being to see more work. BNSF has kept a handful of B40-8's & B40-8W's active for only local and yard service at most.Aside from SD40-2's,SD60M's,GP60M's,or C44-9W's to just list a few. The oldest main locomotives on their rosters is the C44-9W's and SD70ACE's,most of the SD70MAC's and SD75M's are all in storage or have been junked. I have also personally been to the deadline that was briefly mentioned, out in Galveston Texas. There is literally a city block of C40-8W's sitting out there awaiting to be scrapped.BNSF has none of those in still service otherwise I'd come across more often. The ones that still run C40-8W's in good numbers is CSX,but all of theirs are modernised as C44-8W's since they have been changed to C44-9W standards.
Thanks for making this video! I really like BNSF locos but i never understood the naming of them. Can i ask you something? If yes i tried to analyze a BNSF loco, could you correct me where i was wrong? Ge es44ac Ge is general electric, es has something to do whit the wheels, 44 means 4400 Horsepower, ac is the body and cab design.
The Dash 8s were a favorite in my childhood. I do hope some of them will be sold to railway museum’s to remind fans like myself of the glory day of Dash 8s.
dash 8s are cool but my fave is the Conrail U23's
Several have, such as UP 1848 and NS 3563. BNSF 539 and CN 2150 were recent donations, and supposedly, BNSF 871 and 888 are being held for preservation together.
The dash 8s have been one of my favorite locomotives for both passenger and freight. My favorite paint scheme on a dash 8 was NS's whitestripe scheme.
Wow thanks for telling me that Amtrak's dash 8s and band's dash 8s had different paint schemes, I would have never noticed
Ikr I thought they had the exact same paint scheme

The Burlington northern B units are actually still at the ge erie plant i saw them on a drone footage of the storage yard
What a great way to start a series. This makes me want to learn more about North American freight diesels. Nice job.
5:36 The Leslie RS3L is probably my second favorite horn alongside the Nathan K5LA
ITS FINALLY HERE YESSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSS
Correction: It was Burlington Northern Santa Fe when they merged. They changed their name in 2001 to just BNSF.

Nice video. It's sad to see the remaining of the BNSF C40-8W's get sold off for scrap.
Haase's House O' Science hi Haase

There getting WHAT?!!!!!!!!!
@Zeta0001 I doubt that'll ever happen.
871 and 888 might be preserved
I am honored to these beauties on CN, some with RS3L, some with P5.

Locomotive numbers 560-582 were returned to the lessor
563 and 570 are the only 2 remaining B40-8s left on the roster
In heavy voice. “ yes I like this.”
I see you are a Mann of class
Ah I see you’re a man of classics
6:56 Those were at my local railyard Murray Yard. Seen them before. They were recently hauled off.
only if they could be rebuilt
It’s finally here! Heck yeah!
I just received a HO scale BNSF C-40-8W #812 of the Bachmann Spectrum line with the DCC On Board feature on Tuesday 9-6-2022 !
2:24 I like that part!
That would be me 😂

My favorite General Electric locomotive
Amazing video, when are you going to cover the ES44C4/ET44C4 locomotives?
That will probably be later this year
I had a black ATSF shirt with #809 in front of it when I was a kid! Ah the nostalgia!
Amazing video. Greetings from Indian railfan. Keep in touch always. Happy and safe railfanning.
Dash 8-has DC traction motors, yet has trucks representing AC traction.
One of these C40-8Ws NEEDS to go to the Illinois Railroad Museum.

Perfect video
I was on the floor dying from that yelling... Hilarious!!!!!
Some C40-8Ws units remain today and they are CSX and CSX Still kept CSX 9280
Can’t wait for next episode. Absolutely amazing documentary! 🤩
Sadly now many of the numbers BNSF 800-866(CN) will soon join there siblings in oblivion as CN has retired them and sentenced them to Scrap

1:38 what about the C39-8 and/or the C32-8? Basically where are those guys and then again NS was also a big buyer of those guys so nvm
hey cameraman tbh the b40-8 came after when the c40-8 was introduced in 1987 which it makes it a 4 axle version of the c40-8
I love BNSF trains And Atsf
Fantastic video/ Great information * Well done
5:33 the Santa Fe horns were mainly p3 some p5
they still use some of these as yard power up in our railyard up here but most of the SD-40s and GP 38s have taken over that job
Ah the -8’s My favorite GE Diesel. Nice work.
Actually, the B36-8 was the first Dash 8 unit ever built; the B32-8 came a few months later.
I saw a couple “pink bonnets” out working today. Was any other locomotive painted like that?
Wow great video
Hopefully atleast one of these wide cab units if spared for preservation and if so, returned to its original livery(whether it be a faded unit receiving their first fresh coat of warbonnet paint in a while, or being reverted back to Warbonnet livery).
Santa fe and Amtrak were not the only buyers of the C40-8W's. Conrail, LMS, Union Pacific and CSX. Just so you know😉
True
This is a silly question, but LMS as in London Midland & Scottish Railway?
@@reesochacon1448 LMS in this case is a locomotive leasing company
Great video, love the Dash8's

We need MOOOOAAAAAARRRRRRRR!!!!!!
2:24 And 2:31 Are Funny They Make Me Laugh. 😆🤣
In my town of Newton KS we have as local switchers is ATSF 544 and as BNSF 504 are still in the game
Finally Engines of BNSF
That you showed for a sample why railroads are not satisfied with B-B deiseil locomotives instead they are favouring C-C deiseil locomotives from both EMD and GE
It's sad to see that they are gone
Are going to talk about the GP60 like you said in the end of this video
ha - I saw that unit 563 just this past Sunday up in Everett, WA pulling a mixed manifest just south of the Bayside yard
Note: BNSF 563 is one of one or two active B40-8s in active service and is the only B40-8 with its original horn.
Not anymore
Do you have a documentary of Newnan GA collision in 2006?
Nice video. I love the B40-8W’s
2:57 that's the Jointed rail model im downloading for trainz rn lol
It is!
The dash 8 is so common in freight train companies.
Not these days
I look forward to videos about the c44-9ws and ac4400cws
I've heard that some locos have 6 or even 8 axles and others have only 4. Does having more axles speed them up or slow them down ?
Great
You deserve 10K!
Love this!
All but one made it to BNSF
ATSF 576 was involved in the 1994 Cajon Wreck and was scrapped afterwords
crew: lets me get in cab
Me: time to go where no man has gone before
Great information I'm a die hard ATSF fan and not to happy with the orange ( sa la ve). Thank you for explaining the wording of GE locomotives unlike EMDs it's not easy.
What is the trailing engine on that BN train with the LMX leader at 1:36?
wow now we have the 3 locomotive series on youtube i love this
CameraManRailFan, Can you make more videos? I still didn't see more.
False C40-8Ws and B40-8W Rebuilds have been running on BNSF tracks still like just a few weeks ago I caught a BNSF C40-8W Warbonnet

What about the C39-8’s NS used!?
Good work
Do you have a video of the Dash 9's?
That is Burlington Northern GP38
Ppppppeeeeeeeeennnnnnnnnnniiiiiiiiiiiissssssssssss
C40-8ws must be using a Wii U!
difficult to tell the Dash 8's from the dash 9's if it wasn't for the bogie differences

Some came with Nathan K3LA horns!
Bnsf is my favourite railroad .and can you do the dash 9 next
Atsf 3751 is I THINK in california state Railroad museum. It look like it.
How many B40-8W’s weren’t retired
Not sure. A few were rebuilt and painted into the H4 scheme. They also renamed it into the B40-8WR.
Really CA Peninsula Railfan production also do you know if there are some unrepainted BNSF B40-8W’s
I seen a Santa Fe fake bonnet B40-8W before
