Really excited to see more of this. Maybe motorcycle parts, like MC brake pads/shoes. And possibly trans gears. Or of course off the shelf centrifugal clutch from a small engine. Or if all else fails you can buy friction material and make any style/size you choose
Thanks Craig for your comments. Motorcycle parts is a good idea for somewhere to look. I'm trying to avoid a centrifugal clutch as I'd like to rev the engine with clutch disengaged. Where can you buy frictional material?
@@mrmechanical3423 www.mcmaster.com/friction-material/ I have had some trouble in the past searching for "friction material" I saw the idea on youtube as well from another guy. Of course It might be possible to source locally from clutch repair places. Another kinda of risky thing I saw on YT is a fellow that simply cut off the friction material from a brake pad by hand. Obviously a person would want to avoid asbestos pads, but even I have considered the last option as I have a local scrap yard that often has large brake shoes I can buy for dirt cheap
@@mrmechanical3423 also if it helps, a person could probably mod a centrifugal clutch to function as a manual if that approach is simpler. There are many options, its just a question of what works best for you. Also if you like please feel free to email me graystang88@hotmail.com
This is just awesome. I can't wait to see it come together. I wasn't sure the scope of the project before - whether it was just a non-driving model or a remote controlled unit or .. But it sounds like you're making a full on driveable mini car. Awesome.
You can use a planetary gearbox set up to give you the reduction ratio and as a clutch . If you drive the sun gear , have a braking arrangement like a disc brake on the planet gear cluster driving the ring gear -when the brake is free the planet gear cluster can orbit the sun gear removing the drive from the ring gear . When the drake is applied the planet gear cluster is locked so they cant orbit the sun gear and will transmit power to the ring gear . This is basically how an auto transmission works when you go from park to drive except they use a torque converter like a clutch . If you make the disk brake so it activates slowly it will slip a little and give yo a similar effect to a proper manual clutch.

Yea.... It could take some time 😔
@@mrmechanical3423 It'll be worth the wait. Cheers, Craig
excelant video can't wait to see where this goes
Check out a bicycle coaster brake for a design idea for the clutch, it should give you some ideas if not components.
Thanks Don I'll take a look

Thanks Ian, someoneelse suggested this to me too. I've been looking at the model ford t gearbox.
