I'm glad people are still complaining about the dex cut, unironically. People just accept that it is what it is and I've always found that depressing. We deserve better as fans of the biggest franchise in the WORLD. Obviously our complaints will probably go unheard, but it's good to see people are still passionate about this.

@@Hadvar the cool thing about Gen 6 was that if you own X,Y and ORAS you could get every single Pokemon available, excluding starters ofc but still you could get them through the GTS.
I've been thinking about this for years. It feels like they're actively avoiding making the 1000th pokemon by making regional variants and megas/ gigantamaxes and fewer new pokemon each gen. My reasoning was that it would feel like Pokemon got too old, but this makes sense too. I'm not convinced we'll get 1000 pokemon this gen, maybe they're saving it up for gen 10 and then lining everything up.
There were 88 new Pokemon in Sword and Shield after the DLC. There were 85 new Pokemon after USUM in Gen 7. After you add in Melmetal line and the Legends Arceus newbies, we are at 905 Pokemon. So you may be right, but it will be extremely close. The estimate will be 85 new Pokemon in this Gen I think. That would put it at 990. Some spin-off game will probably add the last ten.
They don't want you to transfer out all your Pokemon to a local game and cancel your Pokemon home subscription. This is the real reason the national dex will never come back. It's a conscious business decision.
I’m more willing to pay for Pokemon HOME indefinitely to have all my cherished Pokemon in one place than buy Pokemon games I don’t want. Legends Arceus and BD/SP are the only Switch Pokemon entries I’ve wanted so far, and I’m content having many of my old mons continue to sit on HOME until a better game has them in their Pokédex. Featuring certain favorite Pokémon of mine that aren’t in Arceus/BD/SP is NOT enough of a draw for me to buy garbage like Sword/Shield or unfinished disasters like Scarlet/Violet

I understand and I was like you but ultimately I realized that it forces player to have more different team from a game to another and it reshape the strat meta game each with game , it give region different feelings because the Pokémon that are there . match the region inspiration last one is like that when a new game come out your exited because your fav pkmn is in . So for me it’s ok ( even if I stil miss my boy greeninja for exemple)
After Sword/Shield I think everyone pretty much expected this would be the norm moving forward. That's why you don't hear anyone talking about dex cuts this time around even though I think most of us are still disappointed.
You are not alone, man. I want the National Dex back too. It's bad enough the Gen 7 game with my whole collection in it crashed and I was forced to move it over to Gen 8 even though I didn't really want to, but now, half of the entire box of shinies I've caught during my years of playing Pokemon can't even come over. Gen 9 looks good, but what Pokemon can't make that trip? My legit shiny Giratina that is my favorite Pokemon I have? The shiny Beautifly I caught as a Wurmple in the original Ruby on St. Patrick's Day one year? None of my Hoopa/Arceus will probably still be able to make the trip, and I don't like wondering what Pokemon I can have in Sword/Shield that will be left behind this time. Pokemon needs to change the "Gotta Catch 'em All" slogan if they're going to keep this up, or sell the brand to Bandai Namco and let them give us everything we want. So sick of this nonsense and shameless money-grubbing that they're doing. The thing is, they've really marketed themselves into a corner by touting this generation as the open-world experience we've all wanted, so if it flops, maybe it'll be the wake-up call they need. Sadly for you The Pokemon Company is part-owned by Game Freak (means they'd have likely exclusive rights to original mainline regions and promotional priority for their games), Nintendo (which why it's exclusive), and Creatures Inc (whose main head is actually the TPC CEO), so it's up to these 3 to brush themselves up to a higher standard - we may get a Bandai Namco make off a remake but a part of me wonders if there's restriction that only GF can do original stuff and third-party has to be as faithful as possible... EDIT: No, they do allow original material, as seen with Orre, so I have to think there's more the restrictions than being third-party.
Its honestly such a damn shame with what pokemon has become. I think deep down ive just accepted that its not gonna be that same as the golden days. Ive stopped caring abt their games, but i don't understand how so many ppl keep buying them when the games are bad

When Pokemon started it always has the ubiquitous 3-digit code for its species. It started with #001, rather than #1. As new gens come by, the dream of maybe going over that 3-digit code begins to form. Gen 4 came with 493 and I think "maybe 1000 isn't impossible". Gen 5 had +156, which while I wasn't fond of most of the designs, still added to the count. Gen 6's better designs IMO but limited count balanced it out but I still hoped there were more. Then came Gen 7 and they started to trickle new species and you wonder if that becomes the norm. The same happened with Gen 8, which while shows low new Pokemon count is to stay, it wasn't a talking point as much as the removed old Pokemon. I doesn't make sense why a much larger system than the 3Ds had only as close Pokemon of Gen 3 at the start and there's not much interesting content to at least make it an understandable sacrifice (but it's a console so it's impossible to think of any). We are closing 1000 now, and that collector's dream number will sadly unlikely continue. Anyway, it is very sad we aren't gonna reach that milestone 1000 in a single game, as they would rather get quick buck every year from casual players who probably just want that quick joy of breezing through an easy Pokemon game. You do you in whatever playstyle but it's disappointing how few appreciate the deeper gameplay aspects of Pokemon. I get the ratio of casuals are much higher with this game series but I hope they try doing a Regional Dex completion once. Appreciate the uniqueness of the Pokemon having that large of a roster.
Pokemon from the start was about being ambitious. Never before had a game had 150 different playable party members when the game came out in 95. And that trend has just been what pokemon has been known for ever since. Breaking boundaries with each game as to how many pocket monsters you can have to play with in every single title. But... the pokemon company couldnt keep it up anymore, or at least, they refuse to, because it costs money. 2:54 yeah people have given up, I dont blame them. Ive given up myself. Anyone who still refuses to buy a game without the national dex probably left pokemon behind completely, so they dont talk about it.

Let's cross our fingers so that gen 9 will only have 999 pokemons in total so that we can reach two milestones at once and have a chance to be able to have 1000+ in gen 10 games. 🤞 Maybe even have a special pokemon as the 1000th instead of a starter (like Victini, it's d'ex number was before the starters'). 🤞🤞🤞 And maybe also if we're lucky being able to really catch 'em 1000+ all in the game even though that would take more time but with another main game done by others like BDSP, maybe GF will have two years and enough to do it (but really, let's not home too much for this last one.) 🤞🤞🤞🤞🤞
@@bog4ntkd8932 Unfortunately, I don't think the years are gonna line up like that. Pokémon has been on a strict 3 years between generations schedule (even when it absolutely makes no sense and they should be devoting more time to the games). That'd put Gen 10 in 2025, three years from this year.
It's very depressing thinking about the fact that people aren't talking about having all past Pokemon in the newest games anymore. It's like people are at the final stage of grieving: acceptance. I don't even care about having to catch every single Pokemon in one game. What I care about is having my most favorite Pokemon in the latest games! However, everyone's favorite mon is different. Therefore, you'd kinda have to add every one in the games so that nobody feels left out.
I think a lot of the silence of BBND comes from all those that did fight the good fight moved on from Pokemon. I know I did. At the end of the day it just isn’t worth fighting the endless ocean of apologist AND people who don’t care about the National Dex despite it being a noble fight. Its utterly foolish because SwSh was the second best selling Pokemon game of all time. Its time to pack it up if you’re a long-time dedicated hardcore fan of Pokemon. The games aren’t for us anymore.
Well there should be a new fight for quality, but people seem too enamoured about PLA even with a lot of its flaws (especially compared to other quest open world and similar games) and seemingly are back to hype SV again...at least they could've waited to #1000 man, but we know that's just one of their big problems.
Company wants to make money -> Falls into a cycle where yearly releases make the most money -> Have to struggle between game quality and number of Pokémon to meet the one year gap Game Freak isn’t some indie passion project, like any company, they exist to produce profit. They’re not going to lose money just to make strangers happy. The fact that they’re a billion dollar company, or that it’s a powerful console doesnt apply cause it’s mostly a time thing. That’s the business model, either play the games or don’t but until they start losing money, they can’t be concerned about making the next chart topping game.
There is still no excuse for Gamefreak to not include all Pokémon to be transferable when they are part of the highest grossing media franchise of all time and it’s not the Switch and switch game cards can’t handle it when they can. If a 3Ds can do it then I don’t see any problem for the switch.

I miss the national dex ... Since I saw the Pokemon video from Tamashi, regarding not being able to catch all Mons, which really seems to be an underground marketing scheme for the company, to make the fans buy all the available games, so they can play with their favourites again, I lost all hope :(
I don't even want a completable national dex objective, I just want to be able to use them all in some capacity. It's what makes the Pokémon world an actual WORLD with traveling trainers with their beloved partners. When the reason that the Sinnoh starters can't be brought to Galar or Paldea is "they are not in the game," the suspension of disbelieving is shattered. I didn't mind PLA not having this as I consider PLA a side-game and nobody is missing much on not being able to transfer everything (seriously, it's just a shiny Pokémon-catching game and nothing else when you've completed it). I miss Pokémon
A theory that’s been in my mind for a while is that gen 9 will end on Pokémon 1000, and that’ll be it for the first set. They’ll then start with a new 150 (finding some way to include the most popular Pokes of course for branding) but adding mostly new ones. They’ve run into an issue where there’s too many to handle now, especially with going to 3D, and doing a whole new set would just make things easier.
That would probably make sense if they make a new engine and new models and Animations for gen. 10. If they somehow choose to continue using the 3DS engine and models on the next system while all other Nintendo franchises jump to PS4 graphics, then things are going to be very sussy.
@MrHG100 Not all Pokemon are loaded once so it shouldn't be a problem, like can you explain how it lags when the Pokemon are stored in the hard storage than RAM anyway? Also, if there are 800 now, can't we say the same as before with 500+ or 700+; National Dex completion is optional for main story completion so I don't know why it would be a problem to have that.
@MrHG100 I mean you talked about lag so I'm wondering how the number of Pokemon affects the technical processing of the game...a 3DS was able to make Gen 6 games in particular work well even with 700+ Pokemon (ORAS is a great Pokemon game IMO) so I don't know why 1000+ in the much more powerful Switch can't... 800 was about the most number we can have in the game which is USUM, so why stop there, why not continue to even a milestone of 1000, maybe push now to 1500? Also I feel part of the game is the full roster availability, being able to play with any Pokemon you want, update with the newest features, and interact with them there. I think it's a good game if it has that capability.

I can't help but be disappointed as well. I cannot help but think what might've been if gamefreak weren't so lazy. Catching them all would be fantastic! I love pokemon! Oh, how the mighty empire has fallen. It is too sad. I, for one, would love to catch all of the pokemon and complete my pokedex. Then I could turn my hat backwards and say, "It's all part of being a pokemon master!" If only they'd give us the opportunity to catch them all. I would take it. I guess all we can pray for at this point is for them to let us catch more in future generations. Then we can finally say without the shadow of a doubt that we have indeed caught them all. It's on my bucket list. Hopefully things will work out for the best in the future (in a good way)!
At least Masuda is out from Game Freak and is now in TPC seemingly to rake more on merch money by being a concept guy - Ohmori though is an iffy successor especially some design choices like forced Exp Share and railroaded story (which aren't time dependent) seemingly comes from him.
I would argue that Ohmori is a slightly better director then Masuda even if there both objectively bad at directing games. I think my real question is who is going to direct remakes? Ik that remakes will most likely be directed by Ohmori if we are talking about Bw remakes but Ohmori wasn’t around during the creation of the johto games so if we do get a johto remake idk if Ohmori would direct it considering the fact that he most likely wasn’t around during its creation, maybe shigeki morimoto will direct it like he directed HGSS. I think shigeki morimoto was making games and directing games since the very beginning of the series so it’s only fitting that he would direct johto in 3D once more.

@@zjzr08 Actually the reason why is because every remake directed by Masuda has been horrible, the only good remake he has ever directed was FRLG. The only good games he’s ever directed was BW and XY and arguably RS. X and Y was good in terms of having a lot of diversity in its route designs and city designs although the villain and story wasn’t that good the story of AZ was arguably well done in X and Y. X and Y had arguably one of the worst casts and unmemorable characters although it does have underrated music. Sun and moon in my opinion was worse then X and Y in terms of having too many cutscenes and having a horribly linear region. Ruby and Sapphire was really good in both region design, city designs, Route design. Although the evil teams in ruby and sapphire weren’t well thought out and the story didn’t make much sense. Normally when it comes to a Pokémon game I don’t expect a good story but I do expect one to atleast make sense. For example I think that the story in Johto took a backseat and wasn’t a good story but it atleast made logical sense narratively even if it didn’t have much of a story to go by. So while a good story isn’t something I expect out of a Pokémon game I atleast expect it to make sense and to take somewhat of a backseat instead of trying hard to be narratively driven and failing miserably. But I think that being said I don’t actually know if Ohmori is better then Masuda, we haven’t seen enough of ohmori’s track record to know. What we do know is that the only good game Ohmori has directed was Omega ruby and alpha sapphire. The rest of the games he has directed was mediocre like Swsh and SM and we don’t even know how good or bad Scarlet and violet will be but knowing his track record with sword and shield and sun and moon it may just end up being another mediocre product. Like I can see nonlinearity being scarlet and violet’s strong suit but how long will the cutscenes be? Will the game have overly long useless dialogue? Will the tutorial be skippable or atleast be a fast tutorial not an overly long unskippable one? How much post game content will be in the base game? Will the battle tower be as weak and disappointing as the one in sword and shield or as good as the one in bdsp and/or sun and moon’s battle tree and how many Pokémon will be in the game? What Pokémon will be in the base game? They still haven’t shown us most of the returning Pokémon.
(sigh) It's moments like this that makes me wish that they just "reboot" the entire Pokédex. ...of course, by doing so, they might think about retaining a Pokémon out of existence.
I'd love for them to eventually bring back the full dex. Also, in the future new games, i'd rather they have 50-70 new pokemon that are actually well thought out, as opposed to having 60% of the new pokemon being dex fillers like pika clones, uninspired fish/birds/bugs, and pre/post evolutions of already bad mons.
Honestly even if Gamefreak cared about these Games there would be a point where we just wouldnt be able to have all existent Pokemon in a single game, it is just sad that Gamefreak made this come earlier Ok now that im halfway through the Video, I just wish the 1000th Pokemon would be a Mew Evolution, i just think it fits, and yeah it is sad we probably wont get a Celebration about 1.000 Pokemon, the only Hope is if Gen 9 caps of at 985 or Something and then Gen 10 is Just one big game with all 1.000 Pokemon with no barely New Pokemon, but i doubt that

@@zjzr08 I mean, back before the switch, that was a realistic conclusion to come to that the storage of handhelds couldn't keep up with with amount of pokemon. But now with the switch, they have way more space and power to do it and nintendo's systems probably could keep up with the amount of pokemon. If pokemon did stay on dedicated handhelds I'd say gen 12 would've probably been a good place to stop with natdex but now we're on the switch its safe to say that they could implement the natdex at anytime.
@@Linx9214 Yeah, like it's not like they're introducing new species every day. It's averaging around 35 species per year, which is constant while technology GROWS rapidly. If the issue is people then hiring 20% more for that isn't asking much as they increased demand price by 50% from $40. And it's not like it actually takes 20% of their income to hire that many.
It’s a big part of it as a franchise now. they aren’t taking the time to take it slow. it’s understandable in the sense that- we are accustomed to see the capitalistic greed in wanting financial growth but it’s just sad to think that so many things get scrapped with no way to go back.
My biggest problem is how close we were in Sword and Shield. A little over 200 remain. I remember seeing mods that added all the cut Pokemon in the base Sword and Shield. If fans can do it just out of passion then I don't see why the company can't. Especially when models are reused. It's definitely one of my favorite things to do once I'm done with the story and post game. It's so fun to search all around and see what you will find. Having the 1000 would be such a fun thing to do. I remember the New Super Mario Bros. 2 challenge of getting a million coins, I spent so much time getting that and I really enjoyed it. I know I'd have the same joy catching 1000 Pokemon as I did collecting a million coins. The only good thing about dexit is that it made me appreciate all the Pokemon that I may have overlooked. I remember getting so happy seeing Sunflora in Scarlet and Violet because he was unable in Sword and Shield.
I think Sunflora got exposure because it's been a while when it was in a regional dex, not exactly because of Dexit IMO - you could've gotten Sunkern's line in the past games, but I think can be obtainable through transferring only (as Gen 6 and 7 barely had post-game Pokemon except for Friend Safari and QR).
i don't mind not every pokemon being obtainable in the game, but they should allow every pokemon in the game. it really sucks when you can't use your favorites in a new game. i understand excluding some older pokemon to give the newer pokemon a chance in ranked, but just ban them from ranked instead of not programing them into the game!
If they are going to keep doing this they need a backup for players. Pokémon home should have functionality that allows you to still battle friends with mons that aren’t usable in the games. Maybe even some kind of battle tower too. It could be kinda a standalone game solely focused on battling, no story gameplay.

You were spot on on everything. They did in fact celebrate the 1000th pokemon via a special video which was pretty cute too (it even featured most of the alternate forms but not all of them unfortunately) but it dared to end with the phrase along the lines of "did you catch them all?" and well people finally remembered that they cannot do that anymore in game. If the games were Tears of the Kingdom quality level and if Home didn't suck I'm sure people would have accepted Dexit, but we got atrocious scams on all fronts AND Dexit.
Personally, I would love it if in gen 9 we would get up close to the number 1000 and then two or three years later they would release a big celebration game where you can catch all the mons plus some new legendary celebration Pokemon, so that the new game then would have precisely 1000 (or a little more than 1000) Pokemon to catch. But this is so very unlikely that it will most probably just remain a wish.
I do think that they'll market "catch the 1000th pokémon" so much we'll get sick of it, but "catch 1000 pkmn" might be reserved for PokémonGo or something like that
I dont mind for one reason They have most of the pokemon in sword and shield and then 7 in hisui just add the ones that aren't in either game and you can complete the dex without having to use the ds games
Quite simple really, I can't seem to care. Game freak can barely be expected to give the bare minimum, or be competent in the slightest . They have all the money in the world and can't be expected to put even the slightest effort forth. I doubt they even consider re introducing cut Pokemon, and if they tried they'd most definitely fuck it up. Besides I doubt they will add 90+ pokemon at this point, even porting over old pokemon models is too much work for them.
Kinda feels that way...although a part of me feels some big grumblings will be back when datamine of the games come out and we officially do know which Pokemon gets excluded.

Legends Arceus has so much to it and with SV they have created a living breathing Pokemon World which feels way more alive with all sorts of interesting biomes, towns, cities, wilderness, deserts, bogs, rivers, lakes, ocean, forests, caves. Everything you could possibly want in a Pokemon region and it is fully open world with no borders separating the towns from the wilderness and a story that doesn't limit you, gyms you can tackle in any order. This is the Pokemon game many have wanted for years and it's very exciting!

Every single video from this channel continues to be one gut punch after another to my hopes and dreams of there ever being a good pokemon game post S/M. Maybe the franchise can do something like Sonic Mania, but considering how much of a strangle hold Nintendo and GF has over the series... a SSBU-style 'everything' game sounds less and less likely by the decade. There was also no reason why this video should have aged this well, but here we are in the worst timeline.

Forget about spitting in the face of the fans who have followed the series for a long time, they're spitting in the face of their own employees too. Their creations, their effort -- thrown away to make a quick buck. A Pokémon like Purugly is quite literally rarer than some legendaries due to the fact that it has only been available three times in a game without the need to trade it from a different game.
The rule of thumb in massive long-running franchises is that the franchise goes downhill once you turn 13. If not, then the franchise goes downhill once you turn 18, if not then it goes downhill once you're 25.
No they aren't. nothing is thrown away, Game Freak have made it clear that EVERY Pokemon will get a chance to shine at one point or another. Also Purugly appeared in Legends Arceus.

@@lol-ih1tl A lot of stuff I loved has had this happen quite a bit. Pokemon isn't an exception. The writing was on the wall for me personally once the 5th gen came and went and as much as I loved B2W2, I knew that going forward they couldn't hit that bar much higher.
I'd have preferred remasters of the old Pokeraps to commemorate the occasion of reaching no. 1000 in Pokedex after 27 long yrs & 9 gens, & go on to create new ones for the regions that dnt have it, but the 1000 encounters video was made in place of them. Oh well, it was cool in of itself.
The National Dex is no longer a major concern. Why? It's because most Pokemon fans have made peace with it and returned to consooming Pokemon products.

I feel like Game Freak should have stopped making new Pokémon at around Generation 4 or 5 because it is making GF think the console video game system games can not have around 900 Pokémon despite having more capabilities than the handheld video game system games. It is already tedious in trying to get (not just catch) that many Pokémon. GF can still make new Pokémon games. The games can be set in different regions, and have new gameplay features and maybe new characters.
Honestly, they should make SV hit exactly 1000 and include the full national dex or only add around 45 new Pokémon plus the Pokémon currently missing from Switch and then do 50 more to get to 1000 for one last game before the switch is replaced. I mean, it is 1000 yes, but you would have the base models for all of them on Switch.
It's really sad we'll never get every pokemon from every gen in a new game ever again. I'm sure gamefreak will make some bs up about not having enough time, even though they've used the same 3d models since 2011 only recently very slightly enhancing them. Corporate greed has ruined and killed many a franchise and pokemon is one of the best examples of this. Idk why I'm complaining though it's not like it's even gonna change, I've long since stopped caring and focus on actual good franchises like zelda+mario and cool indie games.
I've always said that Kalos region Pokémon were the last best designs. Alola had a few but nothing special. They need to chill on making dozens of new Pokémon every gen.. 7-15 at most. And I detest with a passion region forms. Also, the fact that the pidgey line hasn't been since Gen 2.. they're bloody pigeons... When saying about episodes...why did you forget Pokemon anime itself with 1000+ already hehe. Funny enough Japan didn't celebrate I think, but America did albeit in a seeming forced way. Happened in Sun & Moon to be precise. But yeah, kinda interesting omission.
Japan did celebrate it! But what is considered the 1000th episodes are different in Japan and the US. In japan the episode "Mission: Total Recall!" is considered the 1000th however in the US "The Professors' New Adventure!" is considered the 1000th episode. Personally I think the latter is more fitting for a 1000th episode as it's quite a celebratory episode featuring the Wedding between Prof Kukui and Prof Burnet.
I used to be really upset about the fact that not all Pokemon will be obtainable in future Pokemon games. But over time my hatred for it was lifted when I realized that for every Pokemon that's missing in a game, there'll be another Pokemon that's just as cool as that one to fill in that empty spot. I still prefer all Pokemon being obtainable in newer games, but at the same time I understand that there are too many Pokemon at this point. Having to cram them into every game is way too much work.
To celebrate 1000th Pokemon, you can buy a bundle containing Pokemon RB/GS/RS on Switch eShop for a month. Those games will never return to Switch after that.
They just need to balance a regional dex and just have them play in the official tournaments, that's not that big of a problem IMO, although knowing fans, they'll die trying balancing all of this (and balancing schmalancing, Yu-Gi-Oh! allows every card since the start and it still functions fine, and Forbidden cards aren't deleted or anything).

Gen 10 is the 30th anniversary I have this crazy theory they’ll get ScVi to 999 Pokemon then introduce 1 to bring back all the mons for one game and never do it again.
When I was 6 and Pokémon dropped, 151 was a perfect number for my young brain to cling onto. It was plausible that I really could catch them all(and I did many times over) but … 1000? No way 6 year old me would ever give a crap about that.
Most of the Pokémon fanbase will buy anything GF makes, I think they like being treated like shit by the company. All that I can do is not buy the games and continue pirating them thanks to Yuzu, Pokémon Company isn't getting a cent out of me until they make a game as good as BW2 (they most likely wont).
A big issue is that all these games run off similar code so it never made much sense for pokemon to be cut out given all the reused animations, models, etc. Pretty much the only reason why they are doing this is to cut corners and meet deadlines they forced themselves into that used to not exist in the past. We all know Pokemon makes the most of its money off merchandise, so why not invest more time into spin offs and putting more effort into the main series games?
Mario despite of its spin-off faults as of late is giving the mainline room to breath with its spin-offs that are given to teams that are now established as regular allies. Pokemon had a lot of spin-offs in the past, and I'm not sure why it isn't a regular thing now. I get they aren't as profitable as mobile games but something like digital only games like what Kirby is doing could be done IMO. Problem is they kinda did that already with BDSP and they still released PLA and SV months after it when BDSP could've been the games that just tide the fanbase to wait.
A spinoff seems like the kind of thing that could roll with the milestone. Just start piledriving Twitter like usual. If nobody on this end cares then nobody on their end cares.
@@marrow1243 Even they still don't complete and we still have ~200+ missing in SwSh and ~500 missing in BDSP...like the only reason they're doing this is to make HOME an essential app and/or make you buy different games to play them there (unlike in the past where you theoretically can have all Pokemon you want in one game if you just migrate or trade).
One thing I want to mention is that all those models and other data can't be cheap, especially with so many. I can see the Pokémon company cutting the dex in part to reduce game sizes. I'm not trying to excuse them though, since there's a painfully obvious solution if the games weren't fully sandboxed, at least for digital copies: shared files. Why does every single copy of (Ultra) Sun and Moon need to bundle all 700 Pokémon in one ROM when only a small fraction are actually obtainable in-game? I also happen to have Pokémon X and Omega Ruby, both of which also contain completely separate bundles of the exact same Pokémon data. The best solution I can think of is to separate the Pokémon data from the games themselves and make it a separate package, or set of packages, that can be installed. Each game only bundles to Pokémon that can be obtained normally. When seeing a Pokémon not obtainable in the game you're playing, it would instead pull its data from another game installed or download it from Nintendo. What would this actually accomplish? The Switch games would be exactly as large as they already are, but also able to download optional packages containing data for normally unobtainable Pokémon for when you transfer them in from another game. As for Pokémon not being available in the wild in a given game, I don't actually have a problem with that. Keep each region's available Pokémon tight and focused, but still keep that option open for people who want to bring over their old teams.
The games you said literally have the all Pokemon data in them. When a Pokemon from X is traded between OR for example, they don't download each other's Pokemon assets. The assets are present on each other's games and are just read by those games. Like apparently the ~2 GB XY games have 749 Pokemon in them + Megas too.

When was the last time when you could actually complete nat dex in one pair of games? Gen 1. Since then you either needed transfers, special events on several spinnof games, so it doesn't matter, because the only way to complete dex would be transfers from 3ds.
Yeah, I really did hope that the 1000th Pokemon would be a big celebration. But you're right. It's probably just going to be in Gen 9. Even if it was in Gen 10, Gen 10 itself would probably not be announced for Pokemon's 30th anniversary.

Mate Junichi Masuda confirmed during the Sword and Shield period that the National Dex won't EVER be coming back, even in future games. That's why people gave up on it.
Completing the Regional Dex would be fine since it tedious in trying to get all of the Pokémon. Even in SM/USUM, it would have been nice to have an extended PokéDex with entries. The Illusionary Pokémon have PokéDex entries in HOME only-a shame.
10th generation: we have them all Then a glaciation happens 200 years in the future, glaciation is done, most pokemon become extinct or adapt in other forms. We only have 151(or 251) again. We start all over again.
Unless you count shiny and, event specials and forme variants, broke 1000 years ago. Even with Home holding 6000, it fills up fast. At least Home integration allows you to transfer in a bigger selection. It'd be nice to have larger in game storage
The thing is they have the technology to have a lot of boxes in a Switch game (each individual is basically less than an MB) - I mean LGPE had like 10000 Pokemon storage - but IMO they don't choose to because segregating features is just more profitable.

Remember when Nintendo celebrated the living shit out of Smash Ultimate back in 2018, to the point of not one but two DLC characters were revealed in The Game Awards? (in 2018 and 2020 respectively); Almost every newcomer reveal was treated like an event......................almost. -People didn't made that much of a big of a deal on any of the echos (except maybe Daisy or Dark Samus), Isabelle, Incineroar, Terry (only because he was leaked just before), Byleth, Min Min or Pyra/Mythra but that's besides the point, and even then you know what some people say "once you get in smash, you may as well be a gaming icon for life at the very least within their own franchise if not genre in case they aren't already"- Rather or not you liked the roster (let alone the game), you can't deny that they celebrated it like it was special (also the game is called Smash Bros Special in Japan)
as Regional Variants don't count, there might be fewer than 95 new numbered pkmn in Pkmn SV. Kalos, for instance, only had 69 new pkmn. Maybe Gen 10/ Gen X will reach the 1,000th pkmn mark, but I do agree with the Korean Oil that we certainly will not have 1k pkmn in one game.
Looks like Pokemon fans just don't care. As they kept presenting SWSH trailers, the whole thing just fell out of grace until it was gone entirely. I still haven't forgotten that half-assed message about it that pretty much just said "better luck next game, sucker" and everyone complied and swoop it under the rug to go buy BDSP and PLA. As long as it's recognizable enough, who cares about quality? And naturally, it isn't just relegated to just SWSH or just the NatDex. Ever since they went 3D the games have been slowly stripped away of their content, and this is the final result
Personally I don't think gen 9 Scarlet / violet will reach 1000 mons. I expect gen 9 to reach high 900s like 990 - 999. I think they will wait until gen 10. 2026 will be pokemon's 30th year. Imagine gen 10 in 2026 and that reaching over 1k. that would be the time to celebrate.
im just upset that they never decided to make it where you can at least catch all pokemon in 1 generation. Been waiting for Blitzle and Zebstrika to become accessible in the games, with its last possible catch location being a post game island of ORAS. Starting to think its not going to be in SV too, considering GameFreak said other pokemon would be available in future games... whats the point when they clearly arent fairly choosing to include EVERY pokemon.
Personally I'm not that mad about the dex cut as there's more than enough pokemon to choose from in the games anyway. I do understand the frustration of people who liked to bring in pokemon from previous games, and for those that liked to catch em all, but I just never cared for either of those things. Digimon has never had its over 1000 monsters in a single game so does pokemon need to? Catching em all was viable back in gen 1 when there was only 150, but now with reaching possibly 1000 you'd have to be a masochist to even bother. The main thing i want is just good games again. All the switch Pokemon games up to this point have been pretty garbage, dex cut or not, and I just want a good game again.

I'm glad people are still complaining about the dex cut, unironically. People just accept that it is what it is and I've always found that depressing. We deserve better as fans of the biggest franchise in the WORLD. Obviously our complaints will probably go unheard, but it's good to see people are still passionate about this.

ORAS was the only game in which I actually completed the Nat Dex. It felt so good to hang that certificate up in my secret base!

I've been thinking about this for years. It feels like they're actively avoiding making the 1000th pokemon by making regional variants and megas/ gigantamaxes and fewer new pokemon each gen. My reasoning was that it would feel like Pokemon got too old, but this makes sense too. I'm not convinced we'll get 1000 pokemon this gen, maybe they're saving it up for gen 10 and then lining everything up.

There were 88 new Pokemon in Sword and Shield after the DLC. There were 85 new Pokemon after USUM in Gen 7. After you add in Melmetal line and the Legends Arceus newbies, we are at 905 Pokemon. So you may be right, but it will be extremely close. The estimate will be 85 new Pokemon in this Gen I think. That would put it at 990. Some spin-off game will probably add the last ten.

They don't want you to transfer out all your Pokemon to a local game and cancel your Pokemon home subscription. This is the real reason the national dex will never come back. It's a conscious business decision.

I’m more willing to pay for Pokemon HOME indefinitely to have all my cherished Pokemon in one place than buy Pokemon games I don’t want. Legends Arceus and BD/SP are the only Switch Pokemon entries I’ve wanted so far, and I’m content having many of my old mons continue to sit on HOME until a better game has them in their Pokédex.
Featuring certain favorite Pokémon of mine that aren’t in Arceus/BD/SP is NOT enough of a draw for me to buy garbage like Sword/Shield or unfinished disasters like Scarlet/Violet

After Sword/Shield I think everyone pretty much expected this would be the norm moving forward. That's why you don't hear anyone talking about dex cuts this time around even though I think most of us are still disappointed.
You are not alone, man. I want the National Dex back too. It's bad enough the Gen 7 game with my whole collection in it crashed and I was forced to move it over to Gen 8 even though I didn't really want to, but now, half of the entire box of shinies I've caught during my years of playing Pokemon can't even come over. Gen 9 looks good, but what Pokemon can't make that trip? My legit shiny Giratina that is my favorite Pokemon I have? The shiny Beautifly I caught as a Wurmple in the original Ruby on St. Patrick's Day one year? None of my Hoopa/Arceus will probably still be able to make the trip, and I don't like wondering what Pokemon I can have in Sword/Shield that will be left behind this time.
Pokemon needs to change the "Gotta Catch 'em All" slogan if they're going to keep this up, or sell the brand to Bandai Namco and let them give us everything we want. So sick of this nonsense and shameless money-grubbing that they're doing. The thing is, they've really marketed themselves into a corner by touting this generation as the open-world experience we've all wanted, so if it flops, maybe it'll be the wake-up call they need.
Until then, sadly, Gen 8 will probably be where my Pokémon journey ends.

Sadly for you The Pokemon Company is part-owned by Game Freak (means they'd have likely exclusive rights to original mainline regions and promotional priority for their games), Nintendo (which why it's exclusive), and Creatures Inc (whose main head is actually the TPC CEO), so it's up to these 3 to brush themselves up to a higher standard - we may get a Bandai Namco make off a remake but a part of me wonders if there's restriction that only GF can do original stuff and third-party has to be as faithful as possible...
EDIT: No, they do allow original material, as seen with Orre, so I have to think there's more the restrictions than being third-party.

Now this is personal
When Pokemon started it always has the ubiquitous 3-digit code for its species. It started with #001, rather than #1. As new gens come by, the dream of maybe going over that 3-digit code begins to form. Gen 4 came with 493 and I think "maybe 1000 isn't impossible". Gen 5 had +156, which while I wasn't fond of most of the designs, still added to the count. Gen 6's better designs IMO but limited count balanced it out but I still hoped there were more.
Then came Gen 7 and they started to trickle new species and you wonder if that becomes the norm. The same happened with Gen 8, which while shows low new Pokemon count is to stay, it wasn't a talking point as much as the removed old Pokemon. I doesn't make sense why a much larger system than the 3Ds had only as close Pokemon of Gen 3 at the start and there's not much interesting content to at least make it an understandable sacrifice (but it's a console so it's impossible to think of any). We are closing 1000 now, and that collector's dream number will sadly unlikely continue.
Anyway, it is very sad we aren't gonna reach that milestone 1000 in a single game, as they would rather get quick buck every year from casual players who probably just want that quick joy of breezing through an easy Pokemon game. You do you in whatever playstyle but it's disappointing how few appreciate the deeper gameplay aspects of Pokemon. I get the ratio of casuals are much higher with this game series but I hope they try doing a Regional Dex completion once. Appreciate the uniqueness of the Pokemon having that large of a roster.
Pokemon from the start was about being ambitious. Never before had a game had 150 different playable party members when the game came out in 95. And that trend has just been what pokemon has been known for ever since. Breaking boundaries with each game as to how many pocket monsters you can have to play with in every single title. But... the pokemon company couldnt keep it up anymore, or at least, they refuse to, because it costs money.

@@bog4ntkd8932 Unfortunately, I don't think the years are gonna line up like that. Pokémon has been on a strict 3 years between generations schedule (even when it absolutely makes no sense and they should be devoting more time to the games). That'd put Gen 10 in 2025, three years from this year.
It's very depressing thinking about the fact that people aren't talking about having all past Pokemon in the newest games anymore. It's like people are at the final stage of grieving: acceptance.
I don't even care about having to catch every single Pokemon in one game. What I care about is having my most favorite Pokemon in the latest games! However, everyone's favorite mon is different. Therefore, you'd kinda have to add every one in the games so that nobody feels left out.
I think a lot of the silence of BBND comes from all those that did fight the good fight moved on from Pokemon. I know I did. At the end of the day it just isn’t worth fighting the endless ocean of apologist AND people who don’t care about the National Dex despite it being a noble fight. Its utterly foolish because SwSh was the second best selling Pokemon game of all time. Its time to pack it up if you’re a long-time dedicated hardcore fan of Pokemon. The games aren’t for us anymore.
Well there should be a new fight for quality, but people seem too enamoured about PLA even with a lot of its flaws (especially compared to other quest open world and similar games) and seemingly are back to hype SV again...at least they could've waited to #1000 man, but we know that's just one of their big problems.
Also there’s plenty of games better than Pokémon such as BOTW and TOTK
Company wants to make money -> Falls into a cycle where yearly releases make the most money -> Have to struggle between game quality and number of Pokémon to meet the one year gap
Game Freak isn’t some indie passion project, like any company, they exist to produce profit. They’re not going to lose money just to make strangers happy. The fact that they’re a billion dollar company, or that it’s a powerful console doesnt apply cause it’s mostly a time thing.
That’s the business model, either play the games or don’t but until they start losing money, they can’t be concerned about making the next chart topping game.
Let see how much of their business model gonna last.

There is still no excuse for Gamefreak to not include all Pokémon to be transferable when they are part of the highest grossing media franchise of all time and it’s not the Switch and switch game cards can’t handle it when they can. If a 3Ds can do it then I don’t see any problem for the switch.

I miss the national dex ... Since I saw the Pokemon video from Tamashi, regarding not being able to catch all Mons, which really seems to be an underground marketing scheme for the company, to make the fans buy all the available games, so they can play with their favourites again, I lost all hope :(

I don't even want a completable national dex objective, I just want to be able to use them all in some capacity. It's what makes the Pokémon world an actual WORLD with traveling trainers with their beloved partners. When the reason that the Sinnoh starters can't be brought to Galar or Paldea is "they are not in the game," the suspension of disbelieving is shattered. I didn't mind PLA not having this as I consider PLA a side-game and nobody is missing much on not being able to transfer everything (seriously, it's just a shiny Pokémon-catching game and nothing else when you've completed it). I miss Pokémon
A theory that’s been in my mind for a while is that gen 9 will end on Pokémon 1000, and that’ll be it for the first set. They’ll then start with a new 150 (finding some way to include the most popular Pokes of course for branding) but adding mostly new ones. They’ve run into an issue where there’s too many to handle now, especially with going to 3D, and doing a whole new set would just make things easier.
Please search up about how assets are futureproofed (including animations) that a lot of the work has already been made for them.
That would probably make sense if they make a new engine and new models and Animations for gen. 10. If they somehow choose to continue using the 3DS engine and models on the next system while all other Nintendo franchises jump to PS4 graphics, then things are going to be very sussy.
It's weird that Pokemon Sun & Ultra Sun didn't get the National Pokedex despite the ability of having all the Pokémons not registered.
@MrHG100 Not all Pokemon are loaded once so it shouldn't be a problem, like can you explain how it lags when the Pokemon are stored in the hard storage than RAM anyway?
Also, if there are 800 now, can't we say the same as before with 500+ or 700+; National Dex completion is optional for main story completion so I don't know why it would be a problem to have that.
@MrHG100 I mean you talked about lag so I'm wondering how the number of Pokemon affects the technical processing of the game...a 3DS was able to make Gen 6 games in particular work well even with 700+ Pokemon (ORAS is a great Pokemon game IMO) so I don't know why 1000+ in the much more powerful Switch can't...
800 was about the most number we can have in the game which is USUM, so why stop there, why not continue to even a milestone of 1000, maybe push now to 1500?
Also I feel part of the game is the full roster availability, being able to play with any Pokemon you want, update with the newest features, and interact with them there. I think it's a good game if it has that capability.

But yes, at least with Gen 7, they allow use of any Pokemon but will have no dex entry. Still, very odd when every Pokemon did have an entry in past gens and adding text wouldn't have taken that much time.

I can't help but be disappointed as well. I cannot help but think what might've been if gamefreak weren't so lazy. Catching them all would be fantastic! I love pokemon! Oh, how the mighty empire has fallen. It is too sad. I, for one, would love to catch all of the pokemon and complete my pokedex. Then I could turn my hat backwards and say, "It's all part of being a pokemon master!" If only they'd give us the opportunity to catch them all. I would take it. I guess all we can pray for at this point is for them to let us catch more in future generations. Then we can finally say without the shadow of a doubt that we have indeed caught them all. It's on my bucket list. Hopefully things will work out for the best in the future (in a good way)!

Pokemon will never be great as long as Ohmori and Masuda exist and continue pulling the strings behind new heads at Gamefreak.
At least Masuda is out from Game Freak and is now in TPC seemingly to rake more on merch money by being a concept guy - Ohmori though is an iffy successor especially some design choices like forced Exp Share and railroaded story (which aren't time dependent) seemingly comes from him.
I would argue that Ohmori is a slightly better director then Masuda even if there both objectively bad at directing games. I think my real question is who is going to direct remakes? Ik that remakes will most likely be directed by Ohmori if we are talking about Bw remakes but Ohmori wasn’t around during the creation of the johto games so if we do get a johto remake idk if Ohmori would direct it considering the fact that he most likely wasn’t around during its creation, maybe shigeki morimoto will direct it like he directed HGSS. I think shigeki morimoto was making games and directing games since the very beginning of the series so it’s only fitting that he would direct johto in 3D once more.

@@zjzr08 Actually the reason why is because every remake directed by Masuda has been horrible, the only good remake he has ever directed was FRLG. The only good games he’s ever directed was BW and XY and arguably RS. X and Y was good in terms of having a lot of diversity in its route designs and city designs although the villain and story wasn’t that good the story of AZ was arguably well done in X and Y. X and Y had arguably one of the worst casts and unmemorable characters although it does have underrated music. Sun and moon in my opinion was worse then X and Y in terms of having too many cutscenes and having a horribly linear region. Ruby and Sapphire was really good in both region design, city designs, Route design. Although the evil teams in ruby and sapphire weren’t well thought out and the story didn’t make much sense. Normally when it comes to a Pokémon game I don’t expect a good story but I do expect one to atleast make sense. For example I think that the story in Johto took a backseat and wasn’t a good story but it atleast made logical sense narratively even if it didn’t have much of a story to go by. So while a good story isn’t something I expect out of a Pokémon game I atleast expect it to make sense and to take somewhat of a backseat instead of trying hard to be narratively driven and failing miserably. But I think that being said I don’t actually know if Ohmori is better then Masuda, we haven’t seen enough of ohmori’s track record to know. What we do know is that the only good game Ohmori has directed was Omega ruby and alpha sapphire. The rest of the games he has directed was mediocre like Swsh and SM and we don’t even know how good or bad Scarlet and violet will be but knowing his track record with sword and shield and sun and moon it may just end up being another mediocre product. Like I can see nonlinearity being scarlet and violet’s strong suit but how long will the cutscenes be? Will the game have overly long useless dialogue? Will the tutorial be skippable or atleast be a fast tutorial not an overly long unskippable one? How much post game content will be in the base game? Will the battle tower be as weak and disappointing as the one in sword and shield or as good as the one in bdsp and/or sun and moon’s battle tree and how many Pokémon will be in the game? What Pokémon will be in the base game? They still haven’t shown us most of the returning Pokémon.
I don't.... think we are going to get to 1000 this gen but overall I agree about the dex issue. :/

I'd love for them to eventually bring back the full dex. Also, in the future new games, i'd rather they have 50-70 new pokemon that are actually well thought out, as opposed to having 60% of the new pokemon being dex fillers like pika clones, uninspired fish/birds/bugs, and pre/post evolutions of already bad mons.
What about a Diglett clone that the Japanese don't want to hide it's a clone with its name (literally Sea + Diglett), haha.

@@zjzr08 I mean, back before the switch, that was a realistic conclusion to come to that the storage of handhelds couldn't keep up with with amount of pokemon. But now with the switch, they have way more space and power to do it and nintendo's systems probably could keep up with the amount of pokemon. If pokemon did stay on dedicated handhelds I'd say gen 12 would've probably been a good place to stop with natdex but now we're on the switch its safe to say that they could implement the natdex at anytime.
@@Linx9214 Yeah, like it's not like they're introducing new species every day. It's averaging around 35 species per year, which is constant while technology GROWS rapidly. If the issue is people then hiring 20% more for that isn't asking much as they increased demand price by 50% from $40. And it's not like it actually takes 20% of their income to hire that many.
It’s a big part of it as a franchise now. they aren’t taking the time to take it slow. it’s understandable in the sense that- we are accustomed to see the capitalistic greed in wanting financial growth but it’s just sad to think that so many things get scrapped with no way to go back.

My biggest problem is how close we were in Sword and Shield. A little over 200 remain. I remember seeing mods that added all the cut Pokemon in the base Sword and Shield. If fans can do it just out of passion then I don't see why the company can't. Especially when models are reused. It's definitely one of my favorite things to do once I'm done with the story and post game. It's so fun to search all around and see what you will find. Having the 1000 would be such a fun thing to do. I remember the New Super Mario Bros. 2 challenge of getting a million coins, I spent so much time getting that and I really enjoyed it. I know I'd have the same joy catching 1000 Pokemon as I did collecting a million coins.
The only good thing about dexit is that it made me appreciate all the Pokemon that I may have overlooked. I remember getting so happy seeing Sunflora in Scarlet and Violet because he was unable in Sword and Shield.
I think Sunflora got exposure because it's been a while when it was in a regional dex, not exactly because of Dexit IMO - you could've gotten Sunkern's line in the past games, but I think can be obtainable through transferring only (as Gen 6 and 7 barely had post-game Pokemon except for Friend Safari and QR).
i don't mind not every pokemon being obtainable in the game, but they should allow every pokemon in the game. it really sucks when you can't use your favorites in a new game.
i understand excluding some older pokemon to give the newer pokemon a chance in ranked, but just ban them from ranked instead of not programing them into the game!
If they are going to keep doing this they need a backup for players. Pokémon home should have functionality that allows you to still battle friends with mons that aren’t usable in the games. Maybe even some kind of battle tower too. It could be kinda a standalone game solely focused on battling, no story gameplay.

They did in fact celebrate the 1000th pokemon via a special video which was pretty cute too (it even featured most of the alternate forms but not all of them unfortunately) but it dared to end with the phrase along the lines of "did you catch them all?" and well people finally remembered that they cannot do that anymore in game.
If the games were Tears of the Kingdom quality level and if Home didn't suck I'm sure people would have accepted Dexit, but we got atrocious scams on all fronts AND Dexit.
The only way for me to accept dexit is if they make a battle simulator and/or something similar to ranch
Personally, I would love it if in gen 9 we would get up close to the number 1000 and then two or three years later they would release a big celebration game where you can catch all the mons plus some new legendary celebration Pokemon, so that the new game then would have precisely 1000 (or a little more than 1000) Pokemon to catch. But this is so very unlikely that it will most probably just remain a wish.
I do think that they'll market "catch the 1000th pokémon" so much we'll get sick of it, but "catch 1000 pkmn" might be reserved for PokémonGo or something like that

Quite simple really, I can't seem to care. Game freak can barely be expected to give the bare minimum, or be competent in the slightest . They have all the money in the world and can't be expected to put even the slightest effort forth. I doubt they even consider re introducing cut Pokemon, and if they tried they'd most definitely fuck it up. Besides I doubt they will add 90+ pokemon at this point, even porting over old pokemon models is too much work for them.
Kinda feels that way...although a part of me feels some big grumblings will be back when datamine of the games come out and we officially do know which Pokemon gets excluded.

Legends Arceus has so much to it and with SV they have created a living breathing Pokemon World which feels way more alive with all sorts of interesting biomes, towns, cities, wilderness, deserts, bogs, rivers, lakes, ocean, forests, caves. Everything you could possibly want in a Pokemon region and it is fully open world with no borders separating the towns from the wilderness and a story that doesn't limit you, gyms you can tackle in any order.
This is the Pokemon game many have wanted for years and it's very exciting!

Yeah, I think we're getting around 80+ as of late, and if I were them, I would reserve #1000 in Gen 10...Base 10 for the win, hehe.
Every single video from this channel continues to be one gut punch after another to my hopes and dreams of there ever being a good pokemon game post S/M. Maybe the franchise can do something like Sonic Mania, but considering how much of a strangle hold Nintendo and GF has over the series... a SSBU-style 'everything' game sounds less and less likely by the decade.

The rule of thumb in massive long-running franchises is that the franchise goes downhill once you turn 13. If not, then the franchise goes downhill once you turn 18, if not then it goes downhill once you're 25.
No they aren't. nothing is thrown away, Game Freak have made it clear that EVERY Pokemon will get a chance to shine at one point or another.

I'd have preferred remasters of the old Pokeraps to commemorate the occasion of reaching no. 1000 in Pokedex after 27 long yrs & 9 gens, & go on to create new ones for the regions that dnt have it, but the 1000 encounters video was made in place of them. Oh well, it was cool in of itself.

I feel like Game Freak should have stopped making new Pokémon at around Generation 4 or 5 because it is making GF think the console video game system games can not have around 900 Pokémon despite having more capabilities than the handheld video game system games. It is already tedious in trying to get (not just catch) that many Pokémon. GF can still make new Pokémon games. The games can be set in different regions, and have new gameplay features and maybe new characters.
Honestly, they should make SV hit exactly 1000 and include the full national dex or only add around 45 new Pokémon plus the Pokémon currently missing from Switch and then do 50 more to get to 1000 for one last game before the switch is replaced. I mean, it is 1000 yes, but you would have the base models for all of them on Switch.
Technically SV won't be the last Pokemon Switch games. Unova remakes will probably be the final ones.
It's a shame that one of the most successful franchise of the world doesn't get higher quality main games.

It's really sad we'll never get every pokemon from every gen in a new game ever again. I'm sure gamefreak will make some bs up about not having enough time, even though they've used the same 3d models since 2011 only recently very slightly enhancing them. Corporate greed has ruined and killed many a franchise and pokemon is one of the best examples of this. Idk why I'm complaining though it's not like it's even gonna change, I've long since stopped caring and focus on actual good franchises like zelda+mario and cool indie games.

In japan the episode "Mission: Total Recall!" is considered the 1000th however in the US "The Professors' New Adventure!" is considered the 1000th episode. Personally I think the latter is more fitting for a 1000th episode as it's quite a celebratory episode featuring the Wedding between Prof Kukui and Prof Burnet.
I used to be really upset about the fact that not all Pokemon will be obtainable in future Pokemon games. But over time my hatred for it was lifted when I realized that for every Pokemon that's missing in a game, there'll be another Pokemon that's just as cool as that one to fill in that empty spot. I still prefer all Pokemon being obtainable in newer games, but at the same time I understand that there are too many Pokemon at this point. Having to cram them into every game is way too much work.
Picture this: 32 people adding and testing 32 Pokemon each making it 1024 total, is 32 Pokemon too much to handle by one person within a year?

They just need to balance a regional dex and just have them play in the official tournaments, that's not that big of a problem IMO, although knowing fans, they'll die trying balancing all of this (and balancing schmalancing, Yu-Gi-Oh! allows every card since the start and it still functions fine, and Forbidden cards aren't deleted or anything).

Gen 10 is the 30th anniversary I have this crazy theory they’ll get ScVi to 999 Pokemon then introduce 1 to bring back all the mons for one game and never do it again.
When I was 6 and Pokémon dropped, 151 was a perfect number for my young brain to cling onto. It was plausible that I really could catch them all(and I did many times over) but … 1000? No way 6 year old me would ever give a crap about that.
Most of the Pokémon fanbase will buy anything GF makes, I think they like being treated like shit by the company.
All that I can do is not buy the games and continue pirating them thanks to Yuzu, Pokémon Company isn't getting a cent out of me until they make a game as good as BW2 (they most likely wont).

A big issue is that all these games run off similar code so it never made much sense for pokemon to be cut out given all the reused animations, models, etc.
Pretty much the only reason why they are doing this is to cut corners and meet deadlines they forced themselves into that used to not exist in the past.
We all know Pokemon makes the most of its money off merchandise, so why not invest more time into spin offs and putting more effort into the main series games?
Mario despite of its spin-off faults as of late is giving the mainline room to breath with its spin-offs that are given to teams that are now established as regular allies. Pokemon had a lot of spin-offs in the past, and I'm not sure why it isn't a regular thing now.
I get they aren't as profitable as mobile games but something like digital only games like what Kirby is doing could be done IMO. Problem is they kinda did that already with BDSP and they still released PLA and SV months after it when BDSP could've been the games that just tide the fanbase to wait.

One thing I want to mention is that all those models and other data can't be cheap, especially with so many. I can see the Pokémon company cutting the dex in part to reduce game sizes. I'm not trying to excuse them though, since there's a painfully obvious solution if the games weren't fully sandboxed, at least for digital copies: shared files. Why does every single copy of (Ultra) Sun and Moon need to bundle all 700 Pokémon in one ROM when only a small fraction are actually obtainable in-game? I also happen to have Pokémon X and Omega Ruby, both of which also contain completely separate bundles of the exact same Pokémon data.
The best solution I can think of is to separate the Pokémon data from the games themselves and make it a separate package, or set of packages, that can be installed. Each game only bundles to Pokémon that can be obtained normally. When seeing a Pokémon not obtainable in the game you're playing, it would instead pull its data from another game installed or download it from Nintendo. What would this actually accomplish? The Switch games would be exactly as large as they already are, but also able to download optional packages containing data for normally unobtainable Pokémon for when you transfer them in from another game.
As for Pokémon not being available in the wild in a given game, I don't actually have a problem with that. Keep each region's available Pokémon tight and focused, but still keep that option open for people who want to bring over their old teams.

The games you said literally have the all Pokemon data in them. When a Pokemon from X is traded between OR for example, they don't download each other's Pokemon assets. The assets are present on each other's games and are just read by those games. Like apparently the ~2 GB XY games have 749 Pokemon in them + Megas too.
the national dex cut was obvious to anyone who can do math. 1000 pokemon to catch for any reward is asking alot, and having to animate them [not even well!] is too much work, so a cut was inevitable.

When was the last time when you could actually complete nat dex in one pair of games? Gen 1. Since then you either needed transfers, special events on several spinnof games, so it doesn't matter, because the only way to complete dex would be transfers from 3ds.

Yeah, I really did hope that the 1000th Pokemon would be a big celebration. But you're right. It's probably just going to be in Gen 9. Even if it was in Gen 10, Gen 10 itself would probably not be announced for Pokemon's 30th anniversary.

Mate Junichi Masuda confirmed during the Sword and Shield period that the National Dex won't EVER be coming back, even in future games. That's why people gave up on it.
Completing the Regional Dex would be fine since it tedious in trying to get all of the Pokémon. Even in SM/USUM, it would have been nice to have an extended PokéDex with entries. The Illusionary Pokémon have PokéDex entries in HOME only-a shame.

At least Home integration allows you to transfer in a bigger selection. It'd be nice to have larger in game storage
The thing is they have the technology to have a lot of boxes in a Switch game (each individual is basically less than an MB) - I mean LGPE had like 10000 Pokemon storage - but IMO they don't choose to because segregating features is just more profitable.
I think that as you said, there is a pokemon fatigue and fans are less caring about new games because they are used to deceptions (sry bad english as usual)

as Regional Variants don't count, there might be fewer than 95 new numbered pkmn in Pkmn SV. Kalos, for instance, only had 69 new pkmn.
Maybe Gen 10/ Gen X will reach the 1,000th pkmn mark, but I do agree with the Korean Oil that we certainly will not have 1k pkmn in one game.

Looks like Pokemon fans just don't care. As they kept presenting SWSH trailers, the whole thing just fell out of grace until it was gone entirely. I still haven't forgotten that half-assed message about it that pretty much just said "better luck next game, sucker" and everyone complied and swoop it under the rug to go buy BDSP and PLA. As long as it's recognizable enough, who cares about quality?
And naturally, it isn't just relegated to just SWSH or just the NatDex. Ever since they went 3D the games have been slowly stripped away of their content, and this is the final result
Personally I don't think gen 9 Scarlet / violet will reach 1000 mons. I expect gen 9 to reach high 900s like 990 - 999. I think they will wait until gen 10. 2026 will be pokemon's 30th year. Imagine gen 10 in 2026 and that reaching over 1k. that would be the time to celebrate.

im just upset that they never decided to make it where you can at least catch all pokemon in 1 generation. Been waiting for Blitzle and Zebstrika to become accessible in the games, with its last possible catch location being a post game island of ORAS.

Personally I'm not that mad about the dex cut as there's more than enough pokemon to choose from in the games anyway. I do understand the frustration of people who liked to bring in pokemon from previous games, and for those that liked to catch em all, but I just never cared for either of those things. Digimon has never had its over 1000 monsters in a single game so does pokemon need to? Catching em all was viable back in gen 1 when there was only 150, but now with reaching possibly 1000 you'd have to be a masochist to even bother.
The main thing i want is just good games again. All the switch Pokemon games up to this point have been pretty garbage, dex cut or not, and I just want a good game again.
