- In this video we’ll show you how to replace the rocker panels in a Chevy cobalt. This technique can be applied to almost any vehicle, and these are some tips and tricks to help you get it done on your own. Total expense is around a couple hundred dollars, and if you have a welder and a harbor freight angle grinder you can do the correct repair on your vehicle as well. This isn’t a video of how to fill the rockers with spray foam, and then hide it for the next guy. This is the correct way to repair rocker panels for cheap, that is safe and will pass any inspection. Someone just gave me a 2010 Cobalt with this exact problem. I want to get this done ( I am NOT a body guy, at all ), so I am hoping I can get it done for a few hundred (especially since I literally got the car for free ). The one I got is white, so I hope that it will not look horrible.
Jeremy H. There are cheaper ways to accomplish the look and pass inspection. However it will not be as structurally as sound. Rockers are cheap metal. If you have access to a welder it’s not too crazy hard. The cheap way involves spray foam but I do not recommend it.
@@justthetipgarage5305 My dad was a welder / fabricator for over 30 years. Thing is, the car I got use to be his, but he doesn't want anything to do with it hahaha. I figured they wouldn't be super strong. I would just like it to look better for a couple years ( maybe! ). I can't weld worth a shit. I am honestly not afraid to spend a couple hundred to have someone do the work, I could even give a hand if they wanted. Considering I got the car for 0, I know the complete history of the car and know it's been mechanically maintained top notch, it would be worth it for me. And yes, I have heard absolute horror stories about the spray foam from more than a few people! I am just trying to get a ball park idea of what it would cost. Thanks for the response though! If you got them cut and ready to weld in I’m sure you could find someone who’d come over and weld them in for a couple hundred. Then you take back over and sand and paint.
