From the book Alcoholics Anonymous: "In spite of the great increase in the size and span of this Fellowship, at its core it remains simple and personal. Each day, somewhere in the world, recovery begins when one alcoholic talks with another alcoholic, sharing experience, strength, and hope."
What is the Twelve Step Model? How is it a "treatment for alcoholism" or "alcohol abuse?"
From Wikipedia: "A twelve-step program is a set of guiding principles (accepted by members as 'spiritual principles,' based on the approved literature) outlining a course of action for recovery from addiction, compulsion, or other behavioral problems. Originally proposed by Alcoholics Anonymous (AA) as a method of recovery from alcoholism, the Twelve Steps were first published in the book Alcoholics Anonymous: The Story of How More Than One Hundred Men Have Recovered from Alcoholism in 1939. The method was then adapted and became the foundation of other twelve-step programs. Twelve-step methods have been adopted to address a wide range of substance-abuse and dependency problems."
You can find out more at: www.aa.org - Alcoholics Anonymous Official Site (And as should be blatantly obvious, we are in no way affiliated with them or any other 12 step program. We are just looking to provide hope to those suffering from alcoholism or addiction.)
It is important to note there are several ways for one to address his or her "alcohol abuse treatment." "Substance abuse" is a very serious condition. Many need inpatient stays or counseling. The importance and purpose of this video, and all our other videos, is to show that recovery IS possible and to give hope to those who are struggling with substance abuse issues. Help IS out there! :)
From the Big Book of AA: "Most of us feel we need look no further for Utopia. We have it with us right here and now. Each day my friend's simple talk in our kitchen multiplies itself in a widening circle of peace on earth and good will to men."

5 years in... bobs talks saved my life... still in. Bob, thank you - god bless you.
I hope you are at 11 years now! 🙏📖
Whether its like a "lecture" or a "share" (still don't know the difference, it seems like he is sharing a lot of his personal experience, strength, and hope) this tape is one of my favorites, and carries an extremely powerful message! Namaste :)
listening again today for the 4th time thanks!
Maybe greatest explainer of the program ever. Important to have guys like him.
At nine years sober I’m realizing only now what it takes to be genuinely sober and working the program. I’m fortunate to now have an excellent by the book sponsor. I’ve come to realize how many people in AA with many years sober are very “dry”. 😢
Bob D just through his online shares has given me more help than anyone one else. I don't know if Bob ever will read this, but you helped a hopeless cocaine addict to live a free life for more than 3 years now.
agree with you

He described so many things I've experienced myself on my sobriety journey thank you
I need to listen to this often.
I’m on day 3 after a relapse coming up on 13 years
I needed to hear this.
How are you holding up?
Bob D. God knows how many lives he has touched, saved.
Grateful for AA. Thank you God and thank you Bob D 👍
Thank god for this. I'm more hopeful than I was an hour ago.
Cunning, baffling and powerful. Only granted a daily spiritual reprieve contingent on me doing something every single day to treat my dis-ease. Never underestimate the power of this disease. This is another reason people still go to meetings after 20, 30 years sober. A true design for living.
It's never easy man. People spend months and years working that fickle step.
One guy I knew got through it by keeping some 3x5 note cards with him everywhere he went. Whenever something popped into his head, he wrote it down on one of those cards. A year and a half later, he went to meet his sponsor with a stack of cards as long as your arm. They worked through it and soon enough he was on his way to the fifth step.
I wish you all the best, man. Good luck.
Powerful messages, everyone should listen to this weather one is alcoholic or not!
I need to hear this EVERYDAY!!!!
This is so beautiful and life changing... describing the real disease of modern times and why we need to escape ourselves: we feel this huge void
Thank you so much for posting all of these marvelous talks.
I am an 80 year old AlAnon with 35 years in 12 step programs; with a 57 year old son in prison for parole violation and a big bad bunch of DWIs 15 years ago.
I want to send printed versions of these talks because I have not found any books or written stuff that comes near this speaker gold. Texas prisons don't allow anything but black and white stuff or books from top seller online book stores ..
Anyway, if anyone can make suggestions I'd greatly appreciate it.
Thanks again..
To all and to all a good day.
You could use a text to speech app on your phone and play the video to it
At 8 years, I needed to hear this today. Thank you for this.
One of my favorite speakers - he just connects...
thank God for Bob d...
After going back on a 8 month bender im glad i heard this i needed to hear this
It spoke to my soul. So beautifully and simply explained. Thank you Bob 🙏🏾
This is my favorite AA speaker!
We can only keep what we have by giving it away.. As you know we can't give away what we don't have.. I have met Bob and he is actually my favorite speaker.. I see we see things differently and I am ok with that. :)
I agree, but what is "it" were does it come from? Allot of folks think they have it because they have managed to be dry for a bit and are transmitting what they think is it.
The other thing is our fellowship has become so diluted you can have your own it and I can have mine and you can't tell me it isn't it.
7:49 7:52 🎉😅😅😢😂🎉😢
7:57 is great that
😂
Most people who call themselves alcoholics nowadays might not be REAL ALCOHOLICS. They quit drinking and everything is excellent. REAL ALCOHOLICS experience alcoholic torture while sober unless we work the steps daily THOROUGHLY
This is so true the worst depression I ever had was being totally sober without a program..today I work this program right out of the book and carry the message to other alcoholics the depression and the obsession is totally gone I never thought this could be possible such a amazing program 🙏 ..thanks for posting this
AMEN.
Maybe I’m not a real alcoholic, I went two months without drinking and life was great, work was great my relationship was great I got in shape, all without a program until one day I ended up drinking losing my job and motivation to be happy and went back to drinking
Real alcoholics also ALWAYS pick up a drink again no matter the necessity or wish to leave it alone (without program). They also cannot control the amount they drink once they pick up because of a manifestation of an allergy that doesn’t exist in the average drinker. I highly recommend checking out a meeting and seeing if you can relate if you are still struggling to leave it alone.
A vision for you talks about the boy whistling in the dark. I feel better already, don’t miss it at all.
GRATEFUL FOR YOUR HELP...TY KINDLY
The 120 people who dislike this video are people who still want to run the show
Or maybe it does not apply to them. It applies to me.
Lol!
Bob D is the man...man he is good.
Gotta talk to him x
This really hits home with me. Thank you.
Iv been sober and in AA 19yrs and never heard anything like this before. It is so sad 😢 xx
The very best of the audios that there is.
wow i got 3 and half years in sobriety and he just describe me,
Bob Darrell I would love to hug u and tell u thank u for ur experience strength and hope!
wow that last half of his speech was really powerful damn
...Bob is RIGHT, ECONOMIC FREEDOM HAS NOTHING TO DO WITH QUALITY SOBRIETY....WORKING THE STEPS PRODUCES QUALITY SOBRIETY...IT IS A PROCESS, SOMETIMES A LONG ONE !
Gr8 message thanks for your experience, strength, and hope!
This is brilliant. Thank you.
6 months into recover I'm doing well
Wasnt sure myself...
Heard alot of non bigbook therapeudic talk in meetings from people not sponsored or working a program
Eventually I absolutely needed the daily work
Didnt know
Oh well
Being SO uncomfortable in meetings/between meetings/made me really question how others said they came to aa and found their people or felt like they were home...”
the fellowship of the crazy eventually drove me right into other meetings with recovered alchys.....
Showed me the daily actions described in the book.....from On Awakening, thru the day constantly reminding myself I am no longer running the show, til Nightly review and meditation and thanks.....
Wow THAT is the daily reprieve from ME!!
Bob your share has really sent such a strong message to me today I thank you so much as I better understand myself.
many thanks 😊😊
The night of the dark soul can go for all time, what is wrong, some one asked me a question, are you prepared to go to any legend to stay sober.".? Answer YES, ,can totally agree with with you, 33 years. Ago to day was my last drunk, .inside job for an outside Life.
any legend?.....what? I'm just fudgin with ya. I know you meant girth.
Wow. Wow. Wow. Just wow.
This is spot on. That's why we have to not only work with WET DRUNKS , but also with DRY DRUNKS, to truly understand the power of alcoholic thinking DRUNK or Sober.
Remember Sobriety is only the first step to recovery, recovery is ALL 12 STEPS.
9 min... i hung onto the bright spots and always thought i had no problem... until kaboom
I do not believe selfishness and self-centerdness is the root of our problems. I think a lack of connection with other human beings combined with alcohol is the problem.
what prevents a connection with other human beings? selfishness and self-centeredness.
Rat park
Fear and previous failure
lol when he said "I'm Bob D and alcoholic" I almost answered "Hey bob" :/
i just did on purpose bc i read this first :) lol
Great share
if I feel a need or want a drink or substitute I just play the tape thru and it always ends the same its always pain
Keith Yack same, always ends in disaster. Such a cunning illness tho.
today, being recovered, it means love.
Never ends well, ever.
@@pauldavidhaynes8243 it does on occasion. ok not often but sometimes you will get thrown a bone and everythings ok. That's what I used to focus on not the hundreds of times it was awful.
Remarkable share..
I love bob D
great thanks needed to hear odomology & Bob love AA. anyone remember the speaker bob or Carl back in the 90s????? that was on point also - thanks le & ky
FYI Scott this is a steps come alive seminar...
Bob makes sense to me.. He says the problem with him is that after a few weeks, months or years of sobriety, he starts to get his god damned opinion back.... Truth... Just read the comments.
Self love or self respect is good.It is different from being self absorbed and self centered
I agree some scot, medication"out side issue"& talking about others from the podium, I m confused about what he is saying., yet I agree to many of us are committing suicide , by being unable to ask for help : (... not just him, but some of "our" favorite speakers are coming off kinda from a point of looking down (I am sure must be doing the best they can) yet "talking about others like hes coming from a righteous place holier than thou sorta. YET I learn how I want to give my witness talk.
im 22 years sober and listening to bob its more like a lecture than a share....you knowe the program is service and love. bob and bill told us please keep this simple..percentages,,,,, our book is ment to be suggestive only we realize we knowe only a little god will constantlydisclose more to you and us,, deppression is a disease not untreated Alcoholisim,,god is love and my rock,,
This term " untreated alcoholism " kills people. Depressive illness is just that an illness, as distinct from depression. We are not doctors .
Outside issues,...... who are we to judge other peoples mental health issues? or quality of sobriety?
First part of this tape with his judgements about suicides just goes to show Bob D is only human too. and his words are just his opinion. The rest I find very helpful.
Thank you Bob.
Denise.... 35 years sober and happy joyous and free just for today thanks to my higher power.
Agreed. Depression is a disease...I doubt recovering alcoholics that started "taking happy pills" increased the suicide rates in AA. His sponsor won't let him take meds......?
4 through 9 are critical to sobriety and sanity and then you get to do 10 11 and 12. And most people wont complete 4. Its sad.
16:44. If I’m defending justifying or rationalizing anything then I’m wrong.
7 days in
as he gets going he backs off some
16:35
This is indeed a lecture. Has some merit and found ways in which I could relate. Lost me when the vanity kicked in ( always seems to find a way in ). Names all his cars, motorcycles, etc by brand name, model, "He" got the first one! As a member of A.A. I am careful to notice something that is written in the Bible, which is "Man at his best is vain."
Did you even listen to the talk?? He was referring to those things as being meaningless in regards to spiritual development. The entire point, if you listen to the whole talk, was none of those things (vain pursuits) made him happy and he was still empty inside...
+Brian Stilwell Hi Brian, Alcoholics come in all shapes & sizes - some are high rollers, some from the gutter. I am also a member of AA, I take what applies to me (i.e. I look at the similarities) and discard the rest. The principles of recovery remain the same whether you are rich or poor, and the disease will ruin you emotionally, socially, and/or physically (one way or the other, sooner or later depending on your drug/habit of choice). If you do not like it, alternative programs to AA are also available. Ciao and good luck to you, L
Put Bob in your 4th step. 🙄
Scott Boatright Hi Scott, that is a good one, great recovery! Ciao, L
"We are not saints" ❤️ I am grateful to grow along spiritual lines today

NO LOVE LIFE THOUGH.HMM.BESIDES HIMSELF.
listening again today for the 4th time fantastic!
He's so good,,!!!I was in the rehab on the Central Coast 10 y ago
That's where I discovered him, it actually called me out of a catatonic state, and I'm just getting it now what he's saying🙏🙏
