Lassi Kinnunen A cute theory but completely ridiculous. The Chinese don't have to use just one character to represent one word any more than English is restricted to using one morpheme per word. The English language manages to invent new words by combining morphemes (like helicopter, which combines two morphemes meaning "helical" and "wing") and the Chinese are just as capable. In Chinese, helicopter is written 直升機 which combines morphemes meaning something akin to "direct ascent machine" or "vertical ascent craft."

Remember that part in 'Batman Trilogy' when Batman (George Clooney) has a street fight with the Mad Gear gang. How awesome was that helipcopter chase? Best moment in cinema history. Ever.

That makes sense, especially when you consider that many dictionary translations don't seem to be using the sorts of dictionary that shows each word used in a sentence (with the sentence in both languages), so they will use synonyms without any consideration to whether the context is appropriate for that synonym.
Do you know, I was just thinking "I wonder whats happening with Ashens and his crazy Popstation watch?" I was about to search for some old show I may have missed but yes - this "popped" up! Wayhey!
