Might want to mention that all of these studies were on healthy people. Except for one study where 7% had a current mental illness diagnosis. Most of the interest in micro dosing is for treating things like depression and anxiety. So reaching the conclusion that its a "scam" seems very premature. It's like saying antidepressants are a "scam" because they don't make happy people feel even happier.
I’m actually pretty upset without enough research something like this was presented as a scam when there could be potential to keep studying it and help people.
I’m so glad for this comment, I love asapscience but for them to call out the psychedelic industry for how much money is going into it but use such a drastic and clickbaity title is icky
They should probably try starting with an amount that would have an impact, instead of 1/75,000th what he said was a recreational dose, and 1/7,500th what he said microdosing was.
I’ve been on antidepressants for 10 years. I’ve tried microdosing. It was much more effective to just take 3.5-4.5 grams on a Saturday. It reduced my anxiety in a material way. You realize the absurdity of the things that fill our minds and stress us all out. Idk - I’m not a dr, but i feel better.
I understood perfectly what you were trying to say. Taking a regular dose every once in a while is much more efective than microdosing 3-5 times a week. The former is actually scientifically proven, and way better than placebo.
Psilocybin mushrooms have definitely had a positive impact on my mental health. They've been really helpful for me in dealing with anxiety and depression.
I struggle with Manic-Depression and taking a full dose of LSD or Shrooms once every few months to half-a-year has had profound effects. Never tried microdosing, but can definitely attest full doses work wonderfully. I used to he hospitalized constantly for depression, but now its rare.
You can use a microdose to refresh the neural pathways that were activated during the trip. I’d avoid microdosing frequently or you could develop manic episodes. I have similar issues but not to that extent.
I know microdosing works (at least when combined with meditation) in exactly the same way you know macrodosing works. We're immune to these clickbait scare stories.
I am so sorry for your loss, and I totally understand everything you have said, I too lost my daughter 24 years old absolutely beautiful girl, I use mushrooms every 2 weeks to help me, they have saved my life! Without them I couldn’t go on much love to you ❤️
@@FullFledged2010it’s hard to explain unless you experience it yourself, but I did manage to speak to someone whom I have never heard before, a soft male voice who guided me into letting go. Honestly I can’t explain it and everyone has a different reaction to microdosing or taking a heroic dose. I can say it was more of a mini heroic dose. Maybe all this was already in my head and the mushrooms just let me visualize it better I don’t know but i do feel better.
Psychedelics are just an exceptional mental health breakthrough. It's quite fascinating how effective they are against depression and anxiety. Saved my life.
Can you help with the reliable source I would really appreciate it. Many people talk about mushrooms and psychedelics but nobody talks about where to get them. Very hard to get a reliable source here in Australia. Really need!
Yes, dr.sporees I have the same experience with anxiety, depression, PTSD and addiction and Mushrooms definitely made a huge huge difference to why am clean today.
Microdosing made my years-long depression, anxiety, and PTSD all but completely vanish in a matter of weeks. These results are too concrete and too dramatic to even possibly be a placebo effect. And believe me, I was NOT expecting it to work. I actually thought it was going to be just another in a very long line of different and ineffective treatments I had tried over the last 30 years.
chances are you're taking doses larger than a microdose. Microdosing means you take too little to have an effect so almost by definition it's ineffective.
After I got laid off from work, I started taking drugs and alcohol, I became a shadow of myself, isolating from the world, not until I went on a trip and tried out shrooms I cried like a baby and since then I've been the best of myself then I can say.
I don't know about microdosing, but psilocybin mushrooms absolutely do help if you take a couple 1-2g trips a month. I lost my dad a year ago and gained 40 lbs and just over all became sad and not myself. I hated my new appearance and I was just sad and different. I took a small dose of shrooms, about 1 gram, and it was such a great experience. I looked at myself in the mirror and felt so beautiful. My mind was sharp, I loved how silly I was. I did things without hesitation. If I needed to clean, normally I would just sit and procrastinate. But on shrooms, my body immediately moved for me to complete the chore... And happily! I feel silly and bubbly on shrooms. I feel weightless and content. Even if I feel sad... It's like my brain knows I'm sad, but it makes being sad feel happy and you feel like everything is okay. It's hard to explain. But yes, shrooms changed my life and I will continue to take a 1 or 2 gram trips once a month. ✨
I've definitely been insanely productive on 1g after feeling effects. Things I would feel to depressed to do (especially cleaning!), I would just do. It's helpful.
I was wondering about if you just took a pretty light dose instead of a micro dose. I get panic attacks from smoking too much weed sometimes(although weed causes very specific thought patterns I just have a hard time dealing with, my body feels twitchy, and my thoughts also feel "twitchy" is the only way to describe it), I worry about dealing with a full on trip.
I can’t even express enough how microdosing changed me. Year ago I was in a mental mess and constant brain fog. Now, I feel great. I moved and discovered the real self. It’s worth it. We need more studies. This shit works
na, for me, big doses scare me and make me super anxious and trigger my hppd. small doses (depending on strain) so like 0.2g works for me, it's good to remember that different mushrooms have different potencies though, I grew a bath once that was super week and 2g wouldn't do much, so it's difficult to give someone an accurate recommendation for dosage. @Shaman196
@@voixlavoix very true. we can't even see the full wavelength of the electromagnetic spectrum which means we're certainly deluded every day of what else exists in the world behind the visible spectrum. people really have to be hopeless to think that psychedelics do anything more than entertain your mind for a brief period of time. with that said, i find it incredibly interesting that we are able to discover consistencies within our "delusion" like in sciences, because if we can at least be detect things outside of our natural perception with technology instruments, then it proves at least some level of capability to control our world, and who knows how far it can go? it certainly hasn't stopped yet.
It works. I've had a RADICAL change in my mood, less swings and I am vastly less angry. Also, my fiancé was on depression and anxiety medication for years before I met her. Since we both started at the same time, she no longer takes depression and anxiety meds anymore. Now, we did the large starter dose, then followed the instructions for micro dosing, and every few months we do a large dose again. And Micro dosing requires MONTHS of use, not just a one time event. Anyway, its a natural alternative to shoving pills down your throat from Big Pharma where you usually will have some kind of side effect. In our situation, it works and I highly recommend people doing it, but the right way.
Every mic ive done was around .25g - .5 g which is obviously enough to feel some effects. I think clinical studies are too contained. For one. Everyone knows that one friend who gets a "contact" high. Yeah, a mic does work, but someone can easily fake or manufacture that they are also feeling something.
@@mbaxter22 That's a lot of maybe's lol. One problem is that everyone has a different tolerance, so what could be a microdose for one person is a trip for another. It's likely though at .25 - .5 that they experienced change. It's much more rare to be born with tolerance like some are.
Bro I don’t think u understand how drugs work. Even a week of microdosing would have u see some effect. If it takes multiple months to feel a change when u don’t change ur pattern of intake means it’s not working and it’s an external factor that’s causing the change
The fact that u mix large doses every month with microdosing literally destroys any point you could have proven. For the next few months only take the large doses and see what’s different if u really want to prove the usefulness of microdosing
My recovery journey was supported by the therapeutic benefits of psilocybin mushrooms. Other psychedelics like DMT, LSD are exceptional as well when it comes to mental health treatment.
Psychedelic mushrooms are truly remarkable. A few years ago, I was struggling with severe depression, mental health issues, and was diagnosed with BPD. My friend suggested I try psilocybin mushrooms, I still can’t believe how much better they worked compared to traditional medicine. It was a lifesaver, it honestly healed me.
Can you help me out with a source? I suffer from severe anxiety and depression and have been on prescription meds, but they haven’t really helped. Where can I find psilocybin mushrooms?
DMT, LSD, and psilocybin mushrooms are truly remarkable. A few years back, I was grappling with severe depression and mental health issues, and was diagnosed with BPD. It wasn't until a friend suggested psilocybin mushrooms that things began to change for me. It was a lifesaver, and I've been completely clean for 6 years.
Congrats on your recovery. Most persons never realizes psilocybin can be used as a miracle medication to save lives. Years back i wrote an entire article about psychedelics. They saved you from death bud, lets be honest.
Hey mates! Can you help with the source? I suffer severe anxiety, panic and depression and I usually take prescription medicine, but they don't always help. Where can I find those psilocybin mushrooms? 🙏
Sometimes hearing that something might only work as placebo really bums me out, because if I just didn't know that, then it would probably work for me. However, now that I know, it probably won't.
@@beepboop204 Great advise! That can kill you from serotonin syndrome. Imagine screaming and vomiting whilst having insane hallucinations. So, pretty peaceful way to go.
micro dosing isn't supposed to be a single dose ordeal, it is the practice of taking consistent does alongside practicing mindfulness. i took small doses of magic mushrooms for about 2 months and as someone with a major anxiety disorder i can attest that it most definitely changed the way my brain functions for the better. I no longer suffer from my chronic panic attacks.
Still, the burden of proof would be too show clinical efficacy over long-term use. Does any data exist demonstrating this beyond anecdotes? I feel like people are trying to counter this claim and maybe the UA-camr shouldn't have made such an assertive term like it's a scam. But at best it's a working hypothesis that has never been proven and should not be monetized as a viable solution.
And I don't mean a discount. Your personal anecdotal experience, after all. That's all we have as individuals. But a sample size of one doesn't really mean anything, there could be infinite variables that explain your difference in mood including placebo, confirmation bias, you being focused and auditing your mental health in the first place..... Some people report benefits of SSRI as long before they should make a difference. Probably because they took some agency over their life. And started to do something about their depression and that alone can have a strong impact in your mood. But the point is if long-term usage has clinical benefits over time, that would be pretty easily demonstrated with a study of long-term usage. I do recognize studies are not especially easy to do given the legality of some of these drugs. But in any event until we see them, this is nothing more than a working hypothesis. There our countless anecdotes of people saying it works, but people say the same thing about all sorts of pseudoscience.
@@michaelcorcoran8768 Agreed, but the issue I see with the tests above it that they administered the microcode and tested after a few hours. That's not how it works and is a pretty shit test tbh
It shouldn’t have taken 2 entire months to see changes. It literally cannot work like that. If you microcode, the amount of fun chemicals in brain will remain the same low amount the entire duration of the 2 months, none of the fun chemicals will change. Your brain detects that change and immediately changes to use those chemicals. It wouldn’t take 2 months to see results, that is the definition of a placebo effect
1:04 there should be a disclaimer here that it's 2 grams of mushrooms and not psilocin, if you were to take 2 grams of psilocin you'd be seeing God and Jesus
The best thing I’ve ever microdosed in my life is Iboga. I’ve done all of them, except mescaline. Literally permanently changed my brain chemistry for the better.
Placebo or not. The 30 day microdose protocol I followed had such a profound effect on me that is still with me 8 months later. I was on anti depressants for years thinking the next one will finally help me and I never got a placebo effect with that. So for me personally, I can’t deny the benefits of psilocybin in any dose
For me as well. Been microdosing 10 mo. now. I use the Stamets’ Protocol: 4 days on/3 days off. Plus take supplemental niacin and Lion’s mane. It’s been a miracle.
I watched my friend suffer from neuropathy in her feet for years. Weeks after microdosing she hopping, skipping, jumping up and down the stairs like I had never seen her do before. She was much more active in daily life and she was very much happier. So i call BS, i saw them working with my own eyes. It was life changing for my friend and has continued to help her since.
Is 1g not 1000000mcg? If so then the referenced study was using a microdose to a microdose. In my experience a typical microdose is closer to .10g or 1/10th of a gram, which is like (again I might be an idiot) an order of magnitude larger dose.
@@ZenAndPsychedelicHealingCenter Mix the two over time. I microdose 2-3x a week but I rotate it on and off over time, but I will also do a macro like once a quarter when I really want to focus on something specific that has been bugging me. I've included others in this experience over the years and it has been incredibly impactful not just for me, but for friends willing to give it a shot in times of need too.
once people started to realize they could make money off of trying to help us self medicate anxiety, depression, adhd and the like, they will claim anything to sell you whatever it is. i hope that psychedelics will be able to benefit people in the future :
There are a lot of people who think they need drugs, whether it'd be anti-depressants, other pills or things like micro-dosing, who could actually start feeling a lot better already by living a more healthy life style. Just having a healthy diet and getting enough physical activity can make a huge difference. I've first hand experienced many times before on how much better I can actually feel by merely just eating healthy. But usually this is not the answer people wanna hear...
@@Aomicplane If you live in places like the US, most people are seriously incentivised to be unhealthy. I honestly see no reason to be alive if I have to fight urges constantly from eating addictive garbage-quality food everyday that surrounds us since being in the womb, and to go out of the way to make myself feel bad (exercise) because I ate that garbage food and I must sit in a car to go anywhere instead of being able to *walk* anywhere I need/want to go (good exercise that isn't out of the way), and then go back to places we hate like work/school for most of our remaining time. I'd rather safely take my drugs that have minimal side effects that take the load off than deal with the BS for the sake of being strong-willed. I applaud those that go out of the way to be healthy. But I don't care to, and don't think we should have to.
For me, micro dosing helps me articulate my thoughts better. When I’m sober I forget words easily and sometimes can’t form the proper sentence I’m thinking of. When I’m high on mushrooms the words flow easily and effortlessly.
@@ShantyIrishman is it really a placebo if it's having THIS much of an effect? As a person who struggles with mental illness myself, it's very hard to believe that a placebo will have this profound of an effect. Make you "feel better"? Sure, I can believe a placebo could do that. But to have life changing effects on someone who struggles on the daily, like what I've seen so many people describe, does not seem realistic. But, even if it WAS a placebo, is the placebo that bad if it makes a person feel that much better?
@@cubanita365ignore the one word man, he just likes saying “placebo”. Your issue with word placement and word recognition will almost certainly be down to dyslexia. I’ve struggled with the same problem as so many with dyslexia do. Mushrooms, microdosed or otherwise will certainly help with that. They fire up parts of the brain that wouldn’t normally function that well. It’s helped me with so many things, including dyslexia, dyspraxia and ADHD, among other things.
Mushroom completely turned my life around and my anxiety and panic attack disappeared and my personality changed into a much more generous loving person
I would just like to add my experience, number one I consider myself a scientific person also very depressed. To the point I’ve written ten page college papers EXCLUSIVELY on the placebo effect. Recently I started micro dosing with heavy skepticism because I had tried basically every antidepressant with higher expectations for it to never work. About 6 months ago I started microdosing shrooms, eventually found out like hey this is actually working I can’t put it into words but I just feel better and more importantly other people say my personality seems better too. I ran out of shrooms and what do you know those effects eventually wore off after a few weeks. I got more mushrooms and within 2 or 3 days I was back to “myself”. I’m watching movies and TV again, going out with friends, communicating with people I haven’t in years, cleaning my house much more and getting more school work done. I feel like I’m one of the first people to assume something is a placebo but I don’t see how at least for me that is what’s going on. I am doing it much differently than the study however, and hey studies might just need to test it differently to find results. I’m actually taking probably more like mild doses daily opposed to micro, as much ground mushroom as I can fit into a 200 mg capsule. What I really like about the small dosages for me is that I was depressed enough and experienced with psychedelics enough to worry high doses might make me feel bad as the trips can be volatile.
Yea im in the same boat where i was skeptic and i did have profound changes, and i especially noticed it wearing off right around the 6 hour mark on my first few days, even with me not knowingly keeping time. i feel we need more studies on this because i have a hard time believing its just a placebo. ive used other antidepressants too with little to no change.
I started MD 100mg Psilocybin 2/wk about 6 weeks ago and am now up to double that amount and am soon quitting and going back to psych meds. I do feel it is both a placebo and partially effective maintenance of serotonin. Although I no longer feel the long term relief in a depression, it seem to hold me over for a few days and needs reuptake after 2-3 days.
Another possible counter evidence I want to give was when I grew my own mushrooms and microdosed I noticed super good benefits and then when I tried some friends that I had bought I didn’t really get anything from the same dose with the same high expectations. I think the batch I grew had better quality or higher psilocybin count but I definitely noticed how I didn’t feel an effect but who knows could be a mix of both placebo and some chemical activity
@@leorainard2731 yes. psilocybin is light sensitive too, and potency varies by batch sometimes idk if its due to the nutrients in the soil or whatever, or just genetic variation
As someone who is not a professional. I recommend going to a higher dose sometime soon, and focusing the 'trip' on thinking about what's changed to make you feel better, both internal factors and external, and any other improvements you may need. This could help you to feel better even if you were to stop microdosing, and something else to consider is usually a bad trip means theres something wrong like trauma, or you're in a bad setting, like a party or god forbid dealing with police. A tripsitter is extremely useful here, as they can help you identify things in your setting that may be messing you up, or identify if you're entering a thought loop, which is the most common way to balloon a bad trip
I can't find a source anywhere for any good psychedelics in my area. I suffer some pretty bad depression and i got a chance to try K and man it was a miracle substance, I felt free, the only high or euphoria was from the relief of my vices being released, that's exactly what it did
Psilocybin saved my life. I was addicted to heroin for 15 years and after Psilocybin treatment I will be 3 years clean in September. I have zero cravings. This is something that truly needs to be more broadly used in addiction treatment.
Please does anyone know where I can get them? I put so much on my plate and it really affects my stress and anxiety levels, I would love to try shrooms
Psychedelics saved me from vears of uncontrollable depression, anxiety and illicit pill addiction. imagine carving heavy chains for over a decade and then all of a sudden that burden is gone. Believe it or not in a couple years they'll be all over for treatment of mental health related issues.
I was almost in tears reading about the traumas people have overcome through the use of psilocybin and other psychedelics. I was so overjoyed how so many people have had such a positive experience in being able to move forward through life. The same for myself, saved my life.
I’ve been microdosing on the batch of mushrooms I got from Myco saint for the last few months for depression and the results have been immeasurable. The world has beauty again whereas before it was grey and painful.
Psychedelics definitely have the potential to deal with mental health symptoms like anxiety and depression, I would like to try them again but it’s just so hard to source here, I hope this link here helps out!!!!
I would like to see more longitudinal studies on microdosing. I’m not convinced of either possibility. But I think it’s hard to determine what the benefits are after one exposure. Self reports are always tricky in research. I think the placebo effect is evidence enough that humans aren’t always the best at accurate self reporting.
@@katiebarber407 that’s certainly a possibility. But psychedelics are very intense drugs. It is possible to still feel the euphoric effects that have to do with the serotonin receptors. Acting as a type of antidepressant. It just depends on the dose. I think 1/20 is way too little. 1/10 may do something. But 1/5 I could see working to some level. Many people take half a dose for the first time and don’t get visuals, but feel the euphoric and “loopy” sensation. Divide that by 2.5, you may have a milder high akin to “happy pills”.
Psychedelics have the potential to make a significant impact on mental health issues like anxiety and depression. They've been incredibly helpful for me personally.
Micro dosing and occasionally full dosing on psyilobin has greatly improved my memory after I had a major seizure episode that affected a lot of my short term memory and core childhood memories. It also in my experience has allowed me to manage my epilepsy without medication. Also noticed my short term memory being much more reliable. For neurodivergent individuals there is undeniable results that need more research
They video only provides evidence that LSD microdosing is most likely doing nothing which is really irrelevant since almost no one is talking about LSD when they day microdosing. We’re talking about psilocybin. They study he mentioned for that is also irrelevant because it wasnt double blind. The video should be titled “why microdosing LSD may be a scam”. 🤦♂️
what i think is interesting is that the microdose test ammounts were in the double digit range and they say there was no difference, but i can take 5 micrograms and feel it really strong within an hour. maybe im just sensitive to psychs but my personal experience is drastically different.
My experience is different too. I have some memory issues where I’ll sometimes just forget I took psylocibin, and I’ll feel noticeably better and more confident, not always, but often.
to clarify, i am referring to lsd levels, i have not had the chance to accurately microdose mushrooms but if it's similar to what their lsd levels are i would say 100 to 200mg is probably the equivalent "strong" microdose for me
I had been seeing two psychiatrist and tried many different ssri's and additions. I had a severe depression that lasted two years. I cried 217 days in a row at one point. Once I started microdosing under supervision, Within three days, My depression was significantly better and each day got easier until it went into, what I call, a remission. I had tried tons of different med combos and my meds at the time of microdosing where unchanged for at least six months. Sometimes those new pathways need a lil help to get started.
Sorry but I have to tell you it isn’t a SCAM. I micro dosed for the first time and it really amazed that I now think of the present instead dwelling on negative past experiences. That’s just one dose. THIS IS MY PERSONAL EXPERIENCE.
I hope research continues in this field. I would like to see a study where they cover a range of doses from the micro to the macro. I would like to find out where that line is between the hallucinogenic properties and the medicinal properties. It could be that microdosing, as it currently stands, is too low of a dose to receive the benefits.
@@leandrolopez6093 That, and I'd be willing to bet a little money that a substance that works because of increased neuroplasticity and neurogenesis (to e.g. help shift negative patterns of thinking in depression) is bound to have perception-altering effects in any effective dose. I may eat these words in the future, but I believe that the idea that you can get the benefits without the "drawbacks" in the case of psychedelics won't lead anywhere promising. It's just how they work.
@@leandrolopez6093 I mean yeah, but that's no different than for any other pharmaceutical, so the same study design considerations will just need to be accounted for when creating dosage guidelines
this is poor scientific journalism. That first study used doses of 13-26 mcg compared to 100-200 mg that is generally recommended, which is a tiny, tiny fraction. Then you didn’t discuss dosing for the second study... Also, these studies only discussed infrequent dosing of 2-3 days, which is 1/2 to 1/3 the total dosing that many people take, specifically people who were trying microdosing before it was a hot trend (which is admittedly an anecdote on my part). You completely failed to acknowledge the limitations of these studies (dosing, small sample sizes) and the fact that they only apply to microdosing at these doses, with these frequencies, with these durations. You all can do better than this. Don’t rely on clickbait and disingenuous reporting to make your points. It can reduce the validity of science in the eye of the public, which is an ever increasing problem, and reduce the credibility of this channel.
I think it's important to note that the science of psychedelics is still in it's infancy in many ways. Research is extremely difficult to do in a controlled manner, and many studies are forced to rely on self-administration and self-reports, which are not the most reliable ways to construct experiments or collect data. For this reason, dosages used in various studies are not uniform, and may not be representative of actual use by those reporting benefits given the difficulty of determining dosing in the real world. Weed has a similar issue where the cannabis available for research purposes comes from a few sources and is not at all representative of cannabis being consumed by the public in terms of genetic/chemical composition or psychoactive effects. Additionally, there have been several recent studies showing significant effects of microdosing. While there is probably a placebo effect, I think it's too early to definitively conclude that is the only effect it has, as there are lots of contradictory findings. Claiming that the claims of microdose supporters are invalid or more difficult to test because they are broad doesn't really make sense. For one thing, macro doses of psychedelics also have a hugely broad range of effects, so we'd expect similar to come from smaller doses. Additionally, science is literally built to take broad phenomena and distill them into measurable quantities. The problem with this video is that it does not acknowledge the fact that this kind of work takes time, often decades, and that's in a situation where the research is not nearly impossible to conduct, as is the case with psychs. For a great overview, see the UC Berkeley Center for the Science of Psychedelics paper on microdosing, as well as Polito and Liknaitzky, 2022 (The emerging science of microdosing: A systematic review of research on low dose psychedelics (1955-2021) and recommendations for the field). I'm a little disappointed with the definitive (almost closed-minded) tone this episode took, but I would love to see a video on science history and how long different sciences took to fully understand the landscape of their fields, and compare that to research on psychedelics. Thanks as always for your work!
as some one who has adhd and has microdosed during work it has helped me focus better and gave me a little bit of energy almost as if i drank coffee but definitely didnt have the negative side effects of coffee. just kinda came and went and i felt the same after. i am unmedicated with my adhd but microdosing was similar too if i used a stimulant! ive done it since october 2022 and all ive noticed was while on it, it helped.. but once it wears off i dont feel it did anything else except help me stay more focused and maybe make music hit a little harder😂 (also i was microdosing psilocybin for those wondering)

To be honest I don’t care what the studies might or might not suggest, micro-dosing worked for me and I recommend it to all my friends and family members who similarly struggle
The study mentioned wasn't done on individuals with illnesses of any kind, wich is usually a starting point for doing microdosing. If off topic studies are used for proofing a point I can't really recommend this channel to anybody tbh. However I like your guys approach so I will continue to listen myself once in a while, but with more caution and my own research in mind...
Idk man, it's either taking a small amount of hallucinogens for the rest of my life to treat mental health, or taking unnatural chemicals with nasty side affects, also for the rest of my life.

@AsapSCIENCE Could you guys please do a video about HPPD (Hallucinogen Persistent Perception Disorder)? I had it really bad for almost two years after one year of taking a full dose of psilocybin every week, I would increase it for my tolerance but never exceeded 5g of mushrooms. Once the HPPD started to hit me I lost the ability to think coherently or form logical thoughts which was terrifying and the visual snow/other waviness in my vision continued at almost full force as if I was tripping for year after I stopped taking any psychedelics. I was also on an SSRI when I did all those mushrooms so I was being irresponsible for sure but still I didn't know how dangerous tripping that much could be or that I was putting my ability to think coherently at risk. I just want more people to understand how psychologically dangerous psychedelics are and I hope people exercise extreme caution when using them outside of a clinical setting!
Taking SSRIs with any serotonin-stimulant drug is very, very bad. HPPD is a serious thing, I seriously hope you've gotten better, remember, there hasn't ever been a case of permanent HPPD! It will go away eventually.
Next time you experiment on yourself like this, try to do some basic research first. 30 seconds of googling would tell you NOT to do shrooms on SSRIs. Firstly, the SSRIs are likely to prevent the desired effects of psilocybin, and also you are at severe risk of serotonin syndrome, which can be lethal. Don't be idiots, folks.
I hope you feel better now. Definitely taking any drug and SSRIs at the same time is no good and I discovered it the same way as you did. I didn't have the same symptoms but had extreme paranoia a delusions for at least two weeks and still have mild symptoms from time to time. It'd be interesting if they do make a video about it tho!
It's important to be very well informed on drugs and their risks before taking them (psychonaut wiki is an incredible resource for anyone thinking about taking any drug). Some tips as relates to your experience: - Don't mix tryptamines with SSRIs, they tend to counteract the effects (in some cases even fully negate them) - speak to a doctor about weaning down your dose if that's what you want to do. Don't go cold turkey, don't try to wean yourself without medical advice and supervision. - The typicaly advised reset period for macrodosing tryptamines is (at least) 2 weeks. You shouldn't have to develop a tolerance and I think the developing of a tolerance is a sign of overuse. Better to bring your tolerance back down to your dose than your dose up to your tolerance. I'm not trying to bring you down/blame you at all, just sharing the advice that I've heard that might help anyone else avoid having to go through what you went through.
I've tried microdosing on mushrooms and what I felt and experienced regarding my mood shifts and productivity was def NOT a placebo effect. First two times I could even feel it in my body and noticed really drastic effects in my day-to-day life. I could sleep better, my muscles felt relaxed as if after a full-body massage. I was inspired and motivated (and still am). But the thing with microdosing is that it builds up your tolerance fast, even if you take it every 3 days, so by the end of one month they stop giving you any noticeable effects. But I do feel at a much better place mentally right now after this month that I've done it. Make sure to keep a mood diary if you decide to try it!
Started microdosing sclerotia of psilocybin mushrooms at the age of 61 to see if it would help with my lifelong migraine and a decade old rheumatoid arthritis and psoriasis. Used the “1 on - 2 off” method. Didn’t notice any changes for 3 weeks at was ready to drop it, but my health practitioner suggested I continue for another week. And indeed, something happened. Now at age 62 I’m mobile again and the arthritis is as good as gone. The migraines have drastically reduced in strength, duration, and frequency. I’m not a scientist and to be honest, I really don’t give a 💩how and why it works 😂 it works for me. That’s all I care about. And since the sclerotia of psilocybin mushrooms , AKA magic truffles, are not illegal in Europe, I’ll stick with them 😊
To call microdosing "a scam" based on the presented evidence is extremely flimsy at best. First off, we know that the benefits from psychoactive substances can be extremely broad, having profoundly different (healing) effects depending on who is taking them and at what time in their lives they take them. So to suggest that the reported benefits are "too broad" to fall under proper scientific scrutiny only proves this point about psychedelics. If anything, it shows a lack of categorical understanding on the part of the scientists. Secondly, to suggest that the effects of microdosing are no better than a placebo at improving cognitive functions and well-being based on tests and questionnaires after only five hours isn't very convincing: we know that even taking a microdose can be a profoundly disconcerting experience, for example when it confronts one with things one didn't want to face about oneself. The real benefits can often be seen only days, weeks or even months later, as one integrates the experience and its meaning - even more so with full doses, of course. Five hours hardly seems to cut it. Moreover, to equate a sub-perceptible dose of psychedelics to a placebo can only be done by one solely looking at the results of test and questionnaires. To those familiar with the psychedelic experience, the difference between no dose and a microdose, and the characteristic affinity between a microdose and a full dose will be glaringly obvious: the innate character of the substance shows itself, even at so-called sub-perceptible levels. We don't need science in order to prove this. I, for one, have repeatedly experienced a breakdown of the complete light-spectrum into it's constituent colors on only a tiny dose of LSD. Give me a placebo that does that any time. Your sensational use of words such as "scam" or "lie" based on this flimsy science I honestly find to be reprehensible. One would be well-advised to exercise a little more caution.
Correct me if I heard wrong, it sounds like those studies were about short term use. I'm curious to see if there will be any studies about long term use and what those results will be. Mostly because of the neuroplasticity effects of full doses
I feel like it worsens my focus and ADHD (at least while I’m on a dose) but dramatically helps my social anxiety, even when I’m not on a dose. I just notice that I’m not overthinking socializing. I no longer need or want a drink while hanging out with someone.
I've always been of the opinion that an occasional big dose is way more effective than regularly microdosing, especially if you're defining microdosing as a sub perceptual dose (meaning you can't even feel it). I think light doses are good for if you want a creative boost but still wanna be able to function, if you're comfortable with psychedelics you can take like 1/4 of a dose rather than a 1/10. I think most of the reason microdosing is so popular is people want the benefits of psychedelics while still being able to have a 9 to 5 and be able to take care of their other responsibilities and if you take a full dose of psylocybin or LSD you pretty much need a whole weekend just to yourself in a calm environment and nothing you have to do but trip and unfortunately that's not practical for a lot of people. That's why I think we really need psylocybin clinics that regular people can go to and have a calm environment with someone to watch after them and help them process the trip, this is gonna be the best way moving forward cause not everyone is like me and can take 8 grams of mushrooms and dance naked in my kitchen without worrying about my neighbors calling the cops.
//Look up the name description ⬆️🔝⬆️ they got lsd, DMT, all strain of shrooms, and chocolate bar and other stuff. Ships discreetly and globally ⬆️.....
For me it's go big or go home. I prefer the occasional profound experience to feeling a slight pick me up every day. I tried the Stamets stack for three weeks and got nothing out of it. Sorry Paul.
@@jasonlemrise I totally agree, I think unfortunately so many people can't fit an intense mushroom experience into their life because of work or family or where they live so microdosing is the trendy thing. I do think small doses can boost creativity, help focus and it also relaxes me and relieves pain. I can still function fine to play guitar, garden, draw, paint, or mountain bike on like half a gram of mushrooms but taking like a quarter or less just feels pointless. And for mental spiritual healing you can't beat the occasional good ol 5 dried grams in silent darkness, like Terrence McKenna says "Nature respects courage and if you dive into the abyss you'll find it's a feather bed"
@@Emile.gorgonZola One of my long term goals is to run a psylocybin clinic one it's legalized. I wanna have a zone for guided high dose trips to do inner work and a more party/social zone for low doses where people can hang out and jump on trampolines, dance, play music, paint, etc. So keep a lookout for Mad Max's Magical Mushroom Manor and hopefully I'll see you at the grand opening.
it's cool to have the science explained in a video, I never really thought it was the 'Micro' dose that got me calm, I always assumed you took a small dose over a heroic dose because you were trying to still have a day while tripping (maybe not balls) on mushrooms.
Both microdosing and macrodosing have changed my life tremendously over the last 10 years. Each specific dose used as a tool to target specific intentional aspects( Got off of antidepressants and ADHD medication). So no, I don't believe they're a scam. ------> you also forgot to mention that these studies you're referring to were done primarily with healthy people, not people who actually deal with mental health.
I always love your whiteboard animations!! Such a perfect way to display information and keep the attention of everyone as always keep up the amazing work!!
Tolerance is also an issue. Most psychedelics temporarily loose their power after using them; it takes at least a week to reset their efficacy. I know there are microdosing patterns designed to compensate for this, but I doubt anyone can really beat tolerance.
@@snaxgalore5764 Sure, tolerance probably happens gradually: High dose - high tolerance pushback, low dosage - low tolerance pushback. But the end result is the same: the effect of the substance will disappear, especially when taken on a daily basis because the tolerance will likely increase every day if you don’t take tolerance breaks of at least one week.
@@snaxgalore5764 Maybe, but than you also won’t benefit from the claimed effect that is supposed to happen when _actually_ taking the dose _frequently_ . Hence: microdosing most likely does nothing. But of course the placebo-effect should not be underestimated, so let’s not tell anyone 😉
I’ve personally noticed a positive change after microdosing. It’s definitely improved my life and mood for sure. I’m glad there’s more research coming out now
It doesn't change the shape or density of your brain, so it shouldn't. Even if you saw a difference, we already know there were ultimately no effects on behavior, mood, or performance at those dosages.
@@ZadamanimEven if there isn't a difference in the placebo test, I just think it would be interesting to see the neuroimaging of a microdose or a even full dosage of magic mushrooms.
There are many studies showing the MRI impact of various hallucinogenics on the brain. I’m sure you can find clips on UA-cam. There are also some great shows on Netflix about fungi & medical benefits.
@@Zadamanim I disagree. I think there would be minor differences in how the brain communicates just as there are with a macrodose. Microdosing works, but the amount of microdoses it takes to "work" is multiple microdoses.
Every single person i have spoken to that has micro dosed mushrooms or even had a good amount have said it helps with depression and mental health. Ive spoken to quite a few people as well, i have seen many videos of testimonies as well, i have seen research in to this and the positive always out weighs the negative which in every case i have seen the negative is almost non existent
this is probably his worst video imo. just clicked cause of the insane title. and cool info but this is weak and very inconclusive, and potentially detrimental to the progress that it has going for it. this guy has a big platform and he’s missing the point that microdosing works. these few small studies prove nothing in the way of them not working it just slows progress.
@@mycatrita Also every continent on earth had people using mushrooms for thousands of years, From africa, to europe to australia and india, Every single one. We cant die from intake, cant get addicted, they are harmoginous to our bodies, and the benefits are undenyable.. People like this with an agenda that spew false information, Like in the 70s when they said weed causes violent criminals, they also said weed makes white girls love black men lol, Put it in with mushrooms and lsd, But it was also about money, Look in to the reason why weed was banned, It was american government officials trying to make a big buck
Hmm idk if this was accounted for in the study but I think the microdose itself varies from person to person and you can't simply give everyone the same dose and expect the same thing to happen. There is no general microdose, only individual microdoses. Taking the example of alcohol, different people will have different reactions to the same amount. If we conduct a study where everyone is given the same amount, we won't get any meaningful results.
Yes, some may take 300mg of dried psylocibin and barely feel a thing, but I take 65mg(1 days on 2 days off) and it is the sweet spot for me. I started at 125 mg and it was way too much
@@maximepelletier7712 My point exactly. And I just remembered that even with alcohol, there are so many variables. Are you taking it on an empty stomach? Have you eaten fatty foods beforehand? This doesn't sound feasible to me.
I know for a fact it has helped myself & several other people struggling with PTSD & depression. I also know it helped me stop procrastinating with goals I had. If it's a scam I wonder what was going on with my Antidepressants that had such bad side effects?
I started microdosing almost 3 years ago after multiple failures with anti-depressants . I too have been able to rebalance my life and outlook . There is no placebo effect .. if I don't take those meds every 3-4 days my depression starts closing in again . I am grateful for these plants working so well .. and so is my doctor . He prefers to have me alive . I am in my 60's and live with 3 fricking auto-immune diseases . Golden teacher was an excellent shroom to start with imho .
@@dilaisy_loone2846 I recommend trying it your self. It's definitely not a placebo. Iv taken quite a few strains in mild doses and micro doses. The heavy body I get is sometimes a bit overwhelming even in microdoses. Maybe some people are more sensitive to the mushroom then others. Everyone is different
Yeah like I'm not trying to lose my cool but these studies aren't studying people with mental health problems, of course mocrodosed aren't going to affect you nearly as much if there's nothing there to fix to begin with
The results of the study where they gave 4 microdoses to participants kind of feel expected. I didn't feel any improvement before at least a month of microdosing. I've microdosed on and off, and I always found that I either needed to actually get high on a 1000-2000mg dose first, or microdose for a couple weeks, before I felt that the effects worked again. Then again, it might all be placebo
I tried acid and shrooms. Shrooms arent so good for microdosing, but acid is different story. I was taking a dose big enough to feel it just a little. It worked and it definitely wasnt placeboo. Needed dose varies, also does the place where you get it from.

@@AsapSCIENCE this is poor scientific journalism.
I must say I am unsure about the studies you linked in the description. In two studies, they only administered one dose, and in one study, they administered a total of seven doses over a period of three weeks, which was the longest duration studied. Only one study reported benefits. I always thought that you need to microdose for an extended period (e.g., 6 months or more) before experiencing any benefits. I find it hard to imagine that a single microdose would be of any help.
I never expected it to work and I had almost given up after trying several SSRI and.. other things. But it does. No more anxiety waves/episodes for about a year now. I am 37 and 2022 was the best year in my whole life.

I've been microdosing alcohol, which is a poison for years. But it didn't give me immunity to it, I'm a full blown raging alcoholic now and full dose every day. /s
Been microdosing for a few months now, honestly the way I can work out of lifelong ruts, ptsd, and essentially have a lot of the benefits of adhd medication without losing myself as a person is insane. Maybe its all placebo, but I cant deny what its done for me so far.
My experience is that microdosing benefits more over time and has become more effective for me and preferable to my ADHD medication. I’m not sure how long these studies lasted but I noticed the best results after three months.
Microdosing changed my life tremendously helped me heal some weird full body nervous system fibromyalgia typa thing, im still working at it but soooooo far from where i started
Whats currently being called a microdose i think is too small, when i "micro dose" i take a quarter - half tab of acid. Id like to see studies around that dose range
Goal Guys did a video called “I Tried to Scientifically Test Microdosing” where he did what I thought was a reasonably controlled test with little variable. I recommend watching it.
I started microdosing a few months ago, and was really disappointed with the results. I honestly thought I'd been sold something that has no psilocybin. There was definitely an effect when I took higher doses, but the microdosing offered nothing substantial. Maybe I did get something of value, just microdosing it is ineffective. Thanks for this!!!
Everyone is different, and have different tolerances. In my experience microdosing does work, and so does having a bit larger doses too, psychedelics are a gift from nature 😊
This reminds me of being prescribed Ritalin in grade school. I told my Dr. it wasn't helping me maintain control over my actions so he doubled the dosage, but when I said it still wasn't helping he told me that I still have to make the choice to be in control... I stopped taking the drug immediately and took more conscious responsibility for my own actions. I decided it wasn't worth relying on placebo when it was up to me to believe in myself anyway.
It's really hard to have MDD, I've had it for around 33 years (since I was 23, and I'm 56 now). You spend a lot of money and never find a solution. Always promising things, but never a solution. During that period of time, many of your relatives suffer because of your ilness, others die, etc. It's super difficult. And of course, many commit suicide. I believe that it's better to always continue living, despite the difficulties. You never know what you'll live, and what you can do for others. Also, suicide hurts your relatives worse than your ilness. It's better to live and fight, even if it's for many years. Shows you're a warrior.
I had severe depression and didn't want to get trapped in the pharma system with shitty anti depressants so I decided to grow my own shrooms. I experimented with different doses. .25, .5, .1, 1.5, 2.5 and 6g lol each trip has taught me something. I started breaking patterns. Doing things differently. Evolving. Yes they do work. BUT you gotta read and understand how they work so you can get the best from them. They are just a tool like a gym. You still gotta know what exercises to do to get the best gains.
@@Mannsy83 What's up brother. The medicine definitely increased my intuition. I remember the first time I tried to drink a beer after my first treatment. It was really difficult to drink it, my brain would keep asking me why are you drinking this? And then I would realize it was just a routine I had. Same thing happened with food when I would eat until I was really full to the point of feeling sick, I'd get the same question from my brain, why are you eating this much if you will feel this horrible? Is this what you want? So my answer was "I want to feel better". Another cool thing the medicine showed me was possible consequences for my actions. Consequences of drinking, not working out and eating too much. Then it showed me the consequences of keeping my body clean. exercising, eating healthy. And again it would ask me which path I wanted to follow, I always had a choice. It was a really beautiful transformation, I'm still mastering myself and continue clean, exercising every day for 30m and eating as healthy as I can. The exercises that have worked the best for me are a foundation of 3 main points. Mind, body and spirit. The exercise for my mind is to read every day a chapter of a book that would increase my awareness, right now I'm reading how to win friends and influence on people (really recommended), for my body I exercise in my basement for 30 minutes every morning utilizing intrinsic motivation rather than extrinsic motivation, I do it because it makes me feel good and not because it will make me look good. And for the spirit I do different things like meditation by always asking WHY? Breathing exercises to bring clarity and connection between my mind and body, I work on music which feeds my soul and gives sense and purpose to my life, relationships by practicing mindful listening and connection. Right now I'm pursuing a new career path to become a certified Health and Wellness Coach so feel free to ask me any questions brother. I've been there and I completely understand the feeling of isolation. You are not alone, we are all connected, we are one and we are here to help each other.
Back in 2018 I was suffering from extreme anxiety, depression, PTSD, and panic episodes so I started microdosing mushrooms. I did this for about 3 years straight following the 1 day off 1 day on regiment and honestly it changed my life, personally. I had used large dosages in the past and they always helped but microdosing is meant to be done long term. These studies seem to be very short term.
This is a very important distinction and I hope more attention is paid to it.
I’m actually pretty upset without enough research something like this was presented as a scam when there could be potential to keep studying it and help people.

I usually microdose several days after the trip when you get that natural slump.

Microdosing made my years-long depression, anxiety, and PTSD all but completely vanish in a matter of weeks. These results are too concrete and too dramatic to even possibly be a placebo effect. And happily!

na, for me, big doses scare me and make me super anxious and trigger my hppd. small doses (depending on strain) so like 0.2g works for me, it's good to remember that different mushrooms have different potencies though, I grew a bath once that was super week and 2g wouldn't do much, so it's difficult to give someone an accurate recommendation for dosage. @Shaman196

with that said, i find it incredibly interesting that we are able to discover consistencies within our "delusion" like in sciences, because if we can at least be detect things outside of our natural perception with technology instruments, then it proves at least some level of capability to control our world, and who knows how far it can go? it certainly hasn't stopped yet.
Maybe it’s just the big doses that are giving you the benefits. Maybe the microdoses you’re taking aren’t really doing anything…
For the next few months only take the large doses and see what’s different if u really want to prove the usefulness of microdosing

micro dosing isn't supposed to be a single dose ordeal, it is the practice of taking consistent does alongside practicing mindfulness. i took small doses of magic mushrooms for about 2 months and as someone with a major anxiety disorder i can attest that it most definitely changed the way my brain functions for the better.

Self reports are always tricky in research. I think the placebo effect is evidence enough that humans aren’t always the best at accurate self reporting.

the only thing we can do for a longitudinal study is wait a long time.
the logic is actually pretty simple. if you take too little of something, it does nothing. microdosing is a waste of drugs.

@@leandrolopez6093 That, and I'd be willing to bet a little money that a substance that works because of increased neuroplasticity and neurogenesis (to e.g. help shift negative patterns of thinking in depression) is bound to have perception-altering effects in any effective dose. this is poor scientific journalism.

I just had my first experience with golden teachers, it was really great! I loved it.

There's a lot of potential in psychedelics, I can't wait to try any of them mushrooms specifically but it's just so hard to find a reliable source over here, l'll be glad if anyone can be of help

Some tips as relates to your experience:
- Don't mix tryptamines with SSRIs, they tend to counteract the effects (in some cases even fully negate them) - speak to a doctor about weaning down your dose if that's what you want to do.
@@banehog Exactly.

One would be well-advised to exercise a little more caution.
i completely agree with everything you’ve said here.
Correct me if I heard wrong, it sounds like those studies were about short term use. I'm curious to see if there will be any studies about long term use and what those results will be. Mostly because of the neuroplasticity effects of full doses
Also some recommended a higher dose for psilocybin as well as there being different protocols. So, more tests please
8 grams?! DAMN I wanna party with you
@@Emile.gorgonZola One of my long term goals is to run a psylocybin clinic one it's legalized.
Whatever, insurance pays the medical bills anyway lol.
It’s such a small amount tolerance isn’t an issue
@@snaxgalore5764 Sure, tolerance probably happens gradually: High dose - high tolerance pushback, low dosage - low tolerance pushback. But the end result is the same: the effect of the substance will disappear, especially when taken on a daily basis because the tolerance will likely increase every day if you don’t take tolerance breaks of at least one week.
@@Slurkz with such small amounts you really only need a few days (supposedly, I’m not a scientist lol)

Loved this video, thank you for all the information. I wonder if an MRI of the brain would show changes with the micro-dosing vs the placebo.
@@afterdarkpainting He mentioned ECG in the video, and said there was some difference in the ECG activity but didnt go into detail.

@@AsapSCIENCE this is poor scientific journalism.

I must say I am unsure about the studies you linked in the description. In two studies, they only administered one dose, and in one study, they administered a total of seven doses over a period of three weeks, which was the longest duration studied. Only one study reported benefits.

Well he sounds like a great doctor. I don’t know many doctors who will say that
It's really hard to have MDD, I've had it for around 33 years (since I was 23, and I'm 56 now).
How do you know what exercises to do? Is it obvious things like therapy, exercise etc?
