    Nicely done! I love how you used the plumber's putty to allow the oil to SOAK into the wood up top.

    Mate, good job! Can I just suggest that where you're doing the forming work with spokeshaves and rasps at what appears to be your router table, you really need to raise that surface up! You're bent over like an old man there, and if you don't find a better working position, you will be permanently bent over like an old man! Trust me, I'm an old man. ;)

    someone explain gravity to me. why did hitting the bottom of the hammer with a mallet make the head of the hammer go up the handle?

    • @lukereed3415
      @lukereed3415  4 роки тому +1

      I think it's basically a combination of the hammer head not wanting to move due to it's inertia, the momentum of the handle after being hit, the wedge shape of the handle, and the wood yielding some to the harder metal. It's like hammering a nail into a really bouncy surface.

    I don't know what kind of framing you do, but I would never trust that handle on the kind of framing I do. Aside from that, you are an excellent craftsman and that is a beautiful handle!

    • @lukereed3415
      @lukereed3415  7 років тому

      Thank you! I don't do much framing, and I didn't make the handle with a specific purpose in mind. Regardless, I will be curious to see how long it lasts.

      The thing about skateboard wood is the layers are usually bounded with resin (I think)so this could make for an interesting handle possibly get best of both worlds bad thing is that head isn't a framers head its a finishing or homeowners head framers hammers have flater nail puller and heavier head with a waffle pattern

    What type of band saw are you using? I wanna start working with boards any advice on what tools I should get first ? And equipment?

    • @lukereed3415
      @lukereed3415  5 років тому

      Its a cheap Delta 9in bandsaw. It works pretty well for cutting up boards since their shape is so weird. A 9 or 10 inch bandsaw would definitely be a good starter tool. A bench top belt sander is also very handy for making things flat. A table saw is also a very versatile tool that I find indispensable. It all depends on what type of things you want to make, but a bandsaw, a belt sander, and a table saw would be a great start for working with boards.
