    As a woman I appreciate this demonstration. It makes a good case for carrying a revolver. Paul has said many times to think about circumstances you might need to use a firearm and realistically point blank contact defense is something every woman should consider.

    • @Nipah.Auauau
      @Nipah.Auauau 6 місяців тому +9

      One thing I'm wondering is how hard do you have to press to push the firearm out of battery? At least for some of them it looked like he had to lean into it pretty hard. If it's point blank against, say, an inch or two of soft clothes and skin or an inch or two of fur is that enough to risk out of battery?

    • @trevorgray4852
      @trevorgray4852 6 місяців тому +13

      @@Nipah.Auauau good question. I would say yes even though you are correct he seemed to press into some of them kinda hard, but think about if a person/animal is charging you at contact distance,they going to be moving fast and with harmful intentions and most likely going to be throwing there weight into you and your most likely going to pull your pistol and stick it into them or they will run into your muzzle probably before they even realize you have a gun(if it's a person) up close fights are usually fast and violent and one of you is most likely going to be throwing your entire weight into the other if not both of you slamming into each other kinda like sumo wrestler style lol. Of course every situation is different but your likely going to be crashing into one another one way or the other plus your going to be gripping your weapon pretty tightly most likely with tons of adrenaline and a death grip, maybe literally 😮 not to mention you may be falling or your weapon may be twisted in a odd angle and that could increase/ Change the contact surface area. In sort surprise attacks at point blank range are fast and violent and will probably have a winner in less then 10 seconds, if you've ever been in a fight they usually turn into wrestling matches/on the ground and a true fight is usually over very very quickly, a true 30 second fight is very very long and tiring and even the winner will probably be huffing and puffing from physical exertion and or a huge surge of adrenaline

    This is a great video, and it brings up a valid point. I recently sold a .44 Mag revolver. I didn’t get a whole lot for it because there isn’t a huge market for them at the moment. What surprised me was the buyer said everyone is using 10MM auto loaders, to which I responded, “They are definitely awesome, until you accidentally eject the mag during an adrenaline dump trying to shoot a bear or your auto loader goes out of battery.”
    Pros and cons to both platforms.

    There's a trick you can do with the 1911. With the safety on, place the firearm against the target, hold the trigger down, and the release the safety. It will fire before going out of battery. Obviously that's not practical when you've got a bear or mountain lion in your face but it does work.

    • @HopeisAnger
      @HopeisAnger 6 місяців тому +15

      True, but test it in a safe environment first. Had a burr in the safety divit on the slide. The safety hung up on that when the slide was in contact with target.
      Additionally, if you remain in contact, the slide will almost certainly not return to battery. Furthermore, the likelihood of a feed issue is drastically worse than normal.
      Expect to take an administrative action immediately to return weapon to a functional state.

      Very true. I am not sure, however, if the same is true for other guns with an external safety. Also, on mine I found that I need to press the trigger hard to make this workaround work. If I just press the trigger lightly to just break, the gun will go out of battery as soon I depress the thumb safety. So it’s true: “know your firearm “.

    this was fascinating and a far cry from what you see in the movies
    also really appreciated the team hitting the range in that drizzle - especially when all the weapons would need a bit of extra maintenance from being out in the rain

    The 1911's safety locks into the slide. This allows you to be in contact with the object you intend to shoot. You press the 1911 into your target with the safety on while applying a pull on the trigger, as soon as you disengage the safety with the pressure applied elsewhere the 1911 will fire. If the safety does not lock into the slide then you may be compromised in point blank distance...

      Everyone, test this technique with your equipment first. Just in case there is a tiny little burr in the safety divit which locks the safety into the slide when in contact. Which, best case scenario, will make you feel kinda dumb. Personal experience, thought I'd share.

    Wow! Thanks for covering this Roy! A thought that had never crossed my mind. I can see being in a non-animal self defense scenario that is very sudden where the tool that you have trusted your life on will not actually function. Regardless of most expensive or top tiered branding, if out of battery, your chosen firearm may not serve you. This is a good point to consider when choosing self defense firearms and as pointed out, responding to the situation prior to proximity closing to zero.
