Man what a night that was. When Shabba scored that goal, I just raised my arms in the air as the Kop erupted around me. You could feel the stand actually swaying.
Trevor Francis's frustration comes from the fact that in the league cup final against Liverpool 3 months earlier no coin toss was made because the officials decided holding the pens at the Liverpool, citing safety reasons saying only there was more of a risk of crowd invasion at the Birmingham City end than the Liverpool and so passing the advantage to Liverpool. Fast forward to this game and the officials again held no coin toss because one end of the ground was empty (no risk of invasion then?) and held it in front of the PNE fans. I don't think I've ever seen another game live or on TV when tossing the coin to decide which end to take the pens didn't happen and we had 2 in one season.
A friend of mine recorded the game for me but when it got to the penalties she told me she hadn’t bothered recording them as she didn’t think they were important! 🙈
All Blues fans know this and I mean no disrespect to Preston but Birmingham were so cursed in the playoffs and on penalties around that time so it really didn't matter who the hell we were playing, we were fucked. You could have put us against a team of crippled old ladies that night and we still would have somehow messed it up. Still i guess it was shit like this that made our eventual promotion and the wins over villa and then I suppose years later beating Arsenal at Wembley all that much more worth it
18 minutes of unbridled joy 💪🏻 still remember the feeling these boys had it rocking
Cant believe so few comments on an amazing night, still sends shivers down the neck… a great team and manager then ,PP
I will never ever forget this game, best every game I ever seen at deepdale. My gut feeling is Moyes will return soon.😊
What a fantastic side North End were back then.
best night of my PNE life, Torquay 94 second....

This was such an amazing feeling.
This will never not be funny. Francis may as well have walked his team off, it would have done less damage than his little tanty.
Best night of my life 😀
My 1st born arrived this day and i kissed him and headed to watch the match 😢
What a night. Unforgettable!
Fantastic night. Never forget it. The whole of Deepdale was rocking

Best game Eva!! 💯💯💯 Such a buzz!!
‘1.5 million from Manchester United’ we would never spent that nowadays
Baffles me how Lucas ended up bumping into Moyes 5 seconds after Rankine scored if you watch closely 🤣🤣🤣🤣
Maybe one day we will get to the prem
This season pal
shadow of our former selves now aren’t we
Not really. Preston doing well this season & in the playoffs.
Not even a shadow, mate.
What a night
Lucas total hero...
In terms of parity, the open end shoulda been the end chided. Brum shoulda been all over this.
Francis lost Birmingham the tie childish behaviour
Lazaridis did by not taking into the corner in injury time

1999 vs Watford was another wasn't it
Blues absolutely robbed
Ha! You're kidding, right? Preston should have had a cricket score. Better and bigger club deservedly won.
Bollocks mate. Best team won.
