I love my 97 vmax 600 triple sx deluxe and my dad has a 02 sx viper 700 and now he sais he likes the new four-stroke viper and he wants to sell my vmax and save up to buy a new viper and I get his old viper I will miss my vmax
Yamahas of these years had oil injection setup way too rich. They were the only manufacturer offering a three year warranty. I think Yamaha deliberately set the oil injection that way to avoid engine problems. Problem was they ran like shit, and fouled spark plugs. If you recalibrate the oil pump, rejet the carbs, thinner head gaskets for more compression, and get rid of the heavy, restrictive exhaust can you will have a fast sled.
I have a well maintained Vmax 700 SX and it still runs like a charm two decades later
This was the year Yamaha got it right and things were great
My 97 vmax 600 is still running strong!
Love the old sleds, fire passion and romance.

I still have this same videotape from when I worked at a Yamaha dealership.

Make sure you have spare trailing arms , they fold quicker than a cheap cardtable.

Know a guy with a mm800 cool sled
