The guy in the car park had right of way over you. His entire car was in the roundabout before you got to the give way. You shouldn't have entered the roundabout when the roundabout wasn't clear.
The part of the highway code you must have forgotten about "watch out for all other road users already on the roundabout; be aware they may not be signalling correctly or at all look forward before moving off to make sure traffic in front has moved off. "
@@ashley_neal I'm surprised, you are usually bang on point on these sorts of things. They happened to be going where I was, so when we had both parked up, I informed them that they had got got both FRONT & REAR fogs on. Their reply was 'I KNOW'. I then informed them of the highway code, which stated that visibility has to be 100yds or less. They then said that 'it was raining', which it was, but only a light drizzle. I left them to it, I was totally bemused at their stupidity, if they deem driving conditions like that merit having BOTH front & rear fogs on, they must have VERY poor eyesight. I even phoned 101 to get their take on the use of fog lights and they informed me that, 'If a driver feels they need to drive with their fogs on, they are well within their rights to do so as the highway code is only ADVISORY'. I even informed them of the current weather conditions and they repeated what they had just told me. And, as luck would have it, I came across 2 'PCSO's' and proceeded to question them, which they told me, 'There's a police officer there', he had come to pick them up. I then repeated what I had told the 101 number and he basically said the same. So, my question is, why do we even bother with the highway code as driving in conditions other than in fog causes a danger to other road users as they can dazzle others and possibly cause an accident. Sorry, rant over.
It's why rear fog lights should "self cancel" or "self reset" next time either the ignition is turned off, or the main lights switch is turned off. This would take care of the careless clods who switch on and forget.
Never seen it before, but I just knew that micra indicating right, was going to turn left, lol. Years ago, it was safe to assume anyone indicating right was actually going to turn right. That’s no longer the case.
If I add my own swear words, am I limited to English? I can swear in English, Latin, Welsh, French and Turkish, plus some Polish and Czech. Which would you prefer?
Regarding the last clip with the 'P' driver. How long should new drivers keep the 'P' on their car? I would assume that it would be 3 years as that is the length of time we are given the 'probationary period' where if we obtain 6 or more points we can loose our license!
In America there is a driving law that no one follows where when you’re making a turn, you turn into the nearest lane. For example, when making a left turn, you would turn into the left most lane. Do you have that in Britain or no?
In Germany we have lanes for turning left, right and for going straight (oftenly) BUT, when you have multiple lanes for left you always take the right most one except for if you are going to turn left again right after that turn
orange light is a sign that it's going to become red, that's just an indication to me whether i should speed up or slow down. it's not illegal to drive through orange lights.
Not illegal to drive through amber lights? AMBER means ‘Stop’ at the stop line. You may go on only if the AMBER appears after you have crossed the stop line or are so close to it that to pull up might cause an accident
Hocs, Higher order cognitive skills. That's what I use on a daily basis. This is where the driving instructor is not seen as the expert on everything. Every day is a learning experience for me as well as my clients.
Hello Ashley. The point that I am trying to make is as follows.Your video clips are very good as they are informative. The lorries and buses that are jumping red lights have a different purpose of journey and they maybe under time pressures from their employers as I have family working in these driving positions.I ask my clients how they would deal with traffic lights when they are tired, under stress, driving late at night ,peer pressure from fellow passengers and having fellow passengers in the car who are under the influence of alcohol or drugs. This is the bigger picture and dealing with the post test environment. This is what is meant by Higher order cognitive skills where a driver self reflects on a near miss and how they would overcome this when driving themselves with no input.
I drive truck with trailer, roundabouts are a nightmare! People will do frightening moves just to get past you, taking the 1st exit from the right lane on a dual is becoming a popular one. plus they don’t realise how long it takes to get a heavy vehicle moving off from a roundabout.
MrStreetboy80 yeah that's one is used on most roundabouts and they turn left from the middle lane(straight on) when i'm in the bus lane going straight ahead at traffic lights, i had a van driver last week take the front of my bus off doing that! then has the audacity to blame me for ramming him even though he had a vaxhaull corsa infront of him which was level with me yet he blamed me 😂
My sons driving instructor told me about a car behind honking many times taking the consentration of the student. The student stept out (very big young man) and took the driving school sign of thr car and smashed it on the window of the car behind and yelled "can you read the sign" repeating it and ending it with a calm take it easy. The driver behind shaked shit scared.
What does "elderly drivers" have to do with this video? Perhaps the cammer could tell the age of other drivers, but in most of the clips I could only see poor driving skills, not age of driver. One of the drivers, near the end, who started to turn right before changing his mind and going left, demonstrated the type of confusion we often associate with older drivers, but could be attributed also to unfamiliarity with the streets. The only clip where I could see the driver clearly, the final one, the woman driving hardly appeared elderly. Middle age, perhaps. Why call your videos what they apparently are not?
It's called jumping to conclusions, admittedly the driving skills where a bit iffy, but to me it looked like they were out of their area and looking for an address....but hey! I guess all those ''perfect'' drivers out there don't have those sort of 'moments'....NOT!!
I'm glad I'm not alone in asking the same question. It's a cheap shot, it's ageist and biased, and I wonder how elderly people get an HGV licence. Last time I heard (my brother had his HGV class 3) HGV drivers over a certain age were subjected to an annual physical fitness examination, so I was surprised see that obviously elderly driver in the artic, jumping a red light, or the two clearly elderly gents, duking it out in their company vans. Then of course, the elderly youth in the little silver car with the windows blacked out, so obviously elderly, and driving like a brain dead tit en route to his first date, with a promise for that night. . .
he was guaranteed off roading from the dealer and you are complaining... HE WANTS HIS MONEYS WORTH IN NORTH WEST! If you have complaints against drivers, offer them your business card and say "just in case you need a change" it says more than what an ear full would do
@@ashley_neal it would be a double negative as 'ir' means not and 'less' means without so essentially you're saying not without regard, which would be a long winded way of saying with regard.
The people in the last two clips should have their licence revoked. And then last clip, how do you pass a test when you're that bad at driving. Make her resit the test. Disgraceful.
you know she may not have passed the test in that specific car right? besides that ive seen worse drivers on the road that supposedly have years and years of experience.
@@Edvard.Munchkin i am aware, my point was that there are worse drivers on the road with years and years of experience, compared to that new driver. sorry for the confusion
Well done to Ashley and all other respectful drivers.✊ Courtesy, manners, safe driving, consideration appear to have vanished from our highways - & even culture some may argue. The political class has allowed the disgrace & criminality on the roads. Police, logically, do not stop crime as the incident has already occurred: All the Police can do is deal with the after effects. And as we observe, the results are mixed.✊
Uh, she just passed? Literally EVERYONE stalls after first passing, and if you trying to go on like you never, if you can even drive, then stop lying to yourself. I stalled on a roundabout when I first passed, I put my hazards on and started from the top again, stalled, and did it again until I got going. Big woop, we're human..
@@viennafray5187 Exactly, the issue is when people have driven for several years if not decades yet have such poor car control and awareness is beyond me
I've always wondered why the P pass is not mandatory in mainland UK, as in Northern Ireland a Newly passed Driver has to mandatory display the R (Restricted) sign for 12 months and can't go over 45, or he will have to resit his/her test. this gives the driver time to get used to driving, and seems safer.
@@ashley_neal My point exactly, and I would have thought around south London, hazard perception, anticipation and forward planning would be number one on the drivers survival list.....or do they have a 'different' standard for the driving test there? I think not! lol
Hello Ashley.None of those drivers that you are talking about are actually doing a driving test. There could be multiple reasons why that silver car is going so slowly ,I do not know why that's happening as that's being too judgemental. Driving instructors are far too test focused and not talking about real world driving.
There's no such thing as "real world driving" there's driving obeying the highway code and then there's driving disobeying the highway code. Yes most people pick and choose what bits to follow but obviously a driving instructor must teach driving to the highway code 100% of the time.
Well, I take exception to the title of this video, either that or you have a lot of active and busy elderly drivers, running red lights in articulated lorries, and plying their trade in signed-up business vans. I was surprised to see the granny/grandad in the little silver Peugeot? with blacked out windows. It'll be Hell's grannies next, on Harley Davidsons! I was amazed at the absence of young and middle aged drivers in this video! - Apart from the one who coughed at the roundabout! Okay, so you were there and had first hand sight of "some"of the drivers whose driving you highlighted, but where is the evidence they were all elderly drivers? - Or are you simply ageist and biased? No, I'm not an elderly driver, not yet for a while, but I see no reason to pick on a small segment of society, when in reality, there was only one driver in the video who actually looked like she was an elderly lady. Sorry Ashley, I like your videos, but this one was a cheap shot at older people, and was uncalled for!
There was nothing in this video that is any way derogatory towards older people. Being a good driver is all about being a pessimist and thinking of the worst that could happen. Have you seen my other Driving Fail videos named "The stereotypes" or "So-called professionals"? These videos are also highlighting potential dangers on the road that you need to look out for, by focusing on a specific group of drivers. There are also many others. It is also really interesting of your previous comments on my mobile phone video (ua-cam.com/video/Rc-bu7A30UA/v-deo.html), you have been quite derogatory towards a specific class of road user. These are your words:- "Cyclists (so called cyclists, whom I differentiate from the few sensible riders) are, in my eyes, the worst offenders of all. Teenage gibbons in the main, who ride with no hands on the handlebars, earplugs blocking out the real world, eyes fixed on the phone, totally oblivious to what's going on around them, and barrelling headlong into a junction, or roundabout without a care in the world, but when they stack it into the side of your motor, it's you who is cautioned and breathalysed, whilst the gibbon gets an ambulance ride to A&E at taxpayers' expense." One thing I have always done and will always continue to do, is always look at myself rather than point the finger. In this instance however I would like to ask you a question. You asked me whether I was simply ageist and biased; My answer is categorically no. What is your answer to your own question? Kind regards Ashley

So, my question is, why do we even bother with the highway code as driving in conditions other than in fog causes a danger to other road users as they can dazzle others and possibly cause an accident.
Sorry, rant over.
There's a difference between paying attention to the Highway Code and taking it waaaaay too seriously! 😃
It's why rear fog lights should "self cancel" or "self reset" next time either the ignition is turned off, or the main lights switch is turned off. This would take care of the careless clods who switch on and forget.
The learner behind that gray mini has the patience of a saint, I'd probably have been honking even during a lesson lol.
that silver micra...
Never seen it before, but I just knew that micra indicating right, was going to turn left, lol. Years ago, it was safe to assume anyone indicating right was actually going to turn right. That’s no longer the case.
They will be getting an angry letter from the Volvo Owners Club for breaching their copyright.
Ashley did you do the analysis video?
If I add my own swear words, am I limited to English? I can swear in English, Latin, Welsh, French and Turkish, plus some Polish and Czech. Which would you prefer?
Regarding the last clip with the 'P' driver.
How long should new drivers keep the 'P' on their car?
I would assume that it would be 3 years as that is the length of time we are given the 'probationary period' where if we obtain 6 or more points we can loose our license!
Should? there is no law on it, they are not legally required.
That is a good idea, but I although they are voluntary I used them for a year after passing my test.
I didn’t use them at all, as you tend to get mugged off with them on
I had the P on my car for about 3 months until I went to my car one time and it had gone lol.
The mini roundabout, he was on it first. So surly it was his road ?
4:00 I thought no way they're overtaking here but people still manage to surprise me.
That last clip , beautiful clean fiesta !!
In America there is a driving law that no one follows where when you’re making a turn, you turn into the nearest lane. For example, when making a left turn, you would turn into the left most lane. Do you have that in Britain or no?
Filip Majewski In theory and in law, yes. In practice, not always it seems.
In Germany we have lanes for turning left, right and for going straight (oftenly)
BUT, when you have multiple lanes for left you always take the right most one except for if you are going to turn left again right after that turn
3:12 am I missing something? Why on the floor is there a sign saying turn right?
on roundabouts you have to be in the far right lane if you're taking an exit that goes right.
orange light is a sign that it's going to become red, that's just an indication to me whether i should speed up or slow down. it's not illegal to drive through orange lights.
orange lights lol Got memes! Amber mate Amber lights
Not illegal to drive through amber lights? AMBER means ‘Stop’ at the stop line. You may go on only if the AMBER appears after you have crossed the stop line or are so close to it that to pull up might cause an accident
Simon Abbott
Red and amber means get ready to go.
Amber means get ready to stop
Red means stop
Green - GO BABY GO!!!
If i stopped on every amber light, i would have to replace the brakes on my car every year.
not sure about UK but atleast in other EU countries orange is the exact same as red (unless you dont have enough distance to stop safely)
People just lose their minds on mini roundabouts and forget every rule in the book!
Hocs, Higher order cognitive skills. That's what I use on a daily basis. This is where the driving instructor is
not seen as the expert on everything. Every day is a learning experience for me as well as my clients.
KGS Driving School none of your comments lead on from the others. I don’t have a clue what you are going on about overall. Please explain clearly!
Hello Ashley. The point that I am trying to make is as follows.Your video clips are very good as they are informative.
The lorries and buses that are jumping red lights have a different purpose of journey and they maybe under time
pressures from their employers as I have family working in these driving positions.I ask my clients how they would
deal with traffic lights when they are tired, under stress, driving late at night ,peer pressure from fellow passengers
and having fellow passengers in the car who are under the influence of alcohol or drugs. This is the bigger picture
and dealing with the post test environment. This is what is meant by Higher order cognitive skills where a driver
self reflects on a near miss and how they would overcome this when driving themselves with no input.
if you think that drivers are bad to learners you should drive a bus it's a whole new level of c##tness!
I drive truck with trailer, roundabouts are a nightmare! People will do frightening moves just to get past you, taking the 1st exit from the right lane on a dual is becoming a popular one. plus they don’t realise how long it takes to get a heavy vehicle moving off from a roundabout.
MrStreetboy80 yeah that's one is used on most roundabouts and they turn left from the middle lane(straight on) when i'm in the bus lane going straight ahead at traffic lights, i had a van driver last week take the front of my bus off doing that! then has the audacity to blame me for ramming him even though he had a vaxhaull corsa infront of him which was level with me yet he blamed me 😂
2:35 the car was on the round about before you even got there.
1:16 why did he get pulled out I couldn't see anything wrong
Speed.
1:15 a random policeman walking along sees them speeding..?
If you have complaints against drivers, offer them your business card and say "just in case you need a change" it says more than what an ear full would do
8:04 - The twat threw you a curveball... LOL!
I think a lot of those drivers driving like Pratt’s need to have points or disqualifications
Talk about running the gauntlet! I'm staying away from Liverpool!! 🤔
In fairness, I've got a convertible and light rain, I don't feel it at all :)
6:26 irregardless isn't a word.
Haha. I’ve had this out with one of my lads that doing an English degree. He was surprised when he found out it was a word also. Ask Google!
@@ashley_neal it would be a double negative as 'ir' means not and 'less' means without so essentially you're saying not without regard, which would be a long winded way of saying with regard.

8:03 lmao
The people in the last two clips should have their licence revoked. And then last clip, how do you pass a test when you're that bad at driving. Make her resit the test. Disgraceful.
you know she may not have passed the test in that specific car right? besides that ive seen worse drivers on the road that supposedly have years and years of experience.
@@zorgfleeter if you listen back to it at 8:38 he says NEWLY QUALIFIED DRIVER
@@Edvard.Munchkin i am aware, my point was that there are worse drivers on the road with years and years of experience, compared to that new driver. sorry for the confusion
@@zorgfleeter ah I see. Yes you're right. No problem at all have a good day or night wherever you are 😊
@@Edvard.Munchkin thank you, you aswell :)
And I thought people just cut ME up, tail gated and pulled out in front of me! It appears to be the norm of today, sadly.
If the person on the mini roundabout had been on test they would have failed.
8:38 "Hats off" for stalling twice in the middle of a roundabout? Dangerous, more like...
@@viennafray5187 Exactly, the issue is when people have driven for several years if not decades yet have such poor car control and awareness is beyond me
They shouldn't drive if they cant see

Your dash cam films some REAL idiots, doing some real bad driving , like my dash cam does. I wonder if the police get to view them , on here!
4:20 Shitting Peugeot!
Yep, in such a rush to get to his first shag, but that's it when you're elderly, you never know when the lights are gonna snuff out!
14 seconds in and Oh my gosh 😲😳😱
Hello Ashley. My point is that I see dozen of these situations around South London every day and none of these have anything
to do with a driving test.
KGS Driving School don’t you teach hazard perception? 😂
@@ashley_neal My point exactly, and I would have thought around south London, hazard perception, anticipation and forward planning would be number one on the drivers survival list.....or do they have a 'different' standard for the driving test there? I think not! lol
@@kenharding8437 In London, hazard perception is driving quickly past people with guns! 😛
Hello Ashley.None of those drivers that you are talking about are actually doing a driving test. There could be multiple reasons why
that silver car is going so slowly ,I do not know why that's happening as that's being too judgemental. Driving instructors are far too
test focused and not talking about real world driving.
Sorry. I don't understand your point in relation to the video? Ashley
There's no such thing as "real world driving" there's driving obeying the highway code and then there's driving disobeying the highway code. Yes most people pick and choose what bits to follow but obviously a driving instructor must teach driving to the highway code 100% of the time.
Remember at mini roundabouts always give way to.....idiots...🤗🤗
Bmw drivers🤦🏼♀️😂
These are your words:-
"Cyclists (so called cyclists, whom I differentiate from the few sensible riders) are, in my eyes, the worst offenders of all. Teenage gibbons in the main, who ride with no hands on the handlebars, earplugs blocking out the real world, eyes fixed on the phone, totally oblivious to what's going on around them, and barrelling headlong into a junction, or roundabout without a care in the world, but when they stack it into the side of your motor, it's you who is cautioned and breathalysed, whilst the gibbon gets an ambulance ride to A&E at taxpayers' expense."
One thing I have always done and will always continue to do, is always look at myself rather than point the finger. In this instance however I would like to ask you a question. You asked me whether I was simply ageist and biased; My answer is categorically no. What is your answer to your own question?
Kind regards
Ashley
