- A rare educational short film made to teach the masses about the dangers of Auto Theft, featuring of all things Johnny Five from the Short Circuit movies. The film even takes place after the events of Short Circuit 2, so it's kinda of a Short Circuit 3.
Original effects supervisor from Short Circuit Eric Allerd returns as well to work on the scenes with Johnny Five. It's a real curiousity piece that is a must see for Short Circuit fans. But I do have to warn you though. It's fairly lame and the short is desperately missing Tim Blaney the original voice of Johnny Five.
The short stars Gina Revarra, John Hugh, Donald Bishop and Russell Turner as the voice of Johnny Five. Russell Turner also directed the short. This is also the last known on camera appearance by Johnny Five.
We are from the department of Car Stereo repairs. We take em out of the cars, clean them up and stuff and then we put em back in the cars and everyone is happy! But we have to do all these cars today, we dont even get to go home and see our little babies and stuff.

Isn't hilarious how he doesn't understand why someone would steal his car despite stealing Stephanie's food truck and 2 Nova trucks, one of which had a hostage. Then again he did this in Short Circuit 2 when he took the radios out of an entire block worth of cars.

Johnny 5 can’t remember the make, model, or license plate number? Looks like he needs to upgrade that 500MB hard drive he had installed.
All the other inconsistencies aside, I refuse to believe Johnny 5 hasn't memorized his own license plate.
I also refuse to believe Johnny 5 would be living a happy suburban life without being married to Stephanie.

This totally emphasizes how amazing the puppeteering is in "Short Circuit 2". J5 really feels like a living, "breathing" character in that film, while here his performance is very ... er ... robotic.
The budget was also a bit different between this public service announcement and a major motion picture.
True but it was the same prop. You'd think they could do better than this
a different crew running the controls, it was the guys who made the machines in the movies, i think its just some random people they had on staff here...
If they ever do make a short circuit 3 they should add in a line in the film as a throwback to this. Something to the effect of his truck being stolen once or something.
Sadly, there won't be a Short Circuit 3. Just a remake.

While as 80s-90's as this short is, car thefts still do happen and it's horrible. Some of the info could be useful in preventing it. I do love how almost no one treated Johnny 5 like he's a robot.
I buy old cars for £500, my current one doesn't even lock. Never had a problem with theft. Theives go for flashy cars.
If this story takes place after Short Circuit 2, then he was legally a person so I guess they weren’t allowed to treat him like a robot anymore

Can we just take a moment to appreciate that the thieves gently popped the lock on Johnny's truck and rolled it out of the driveway in neutral, as opposed to smashing the windows on his neighbor's car and driving it out at high speed with zero F's? This is in stark contrast to his comment at the end of Short Circuit 2 when he finds out that while he was nearly beaten to death, Ben and Fred were just kidnapped and stuck in a freezer. "Kidnap the humans, DESTROY THE MACHINE!"

Man I hate part 2 was a let down at the box office.. I been on JV since I was young. Even though part 3 will never be made, Johnny V will always be in my heart. That's my robot right there. I always go back and look at 1 & 2 every now and then. Plus this is my first time watching this, I haven't seen this one. Didn't know this was even out. But I'm pretty sure it's good. I'm excited to see my dude again!
Googled a possibility of a 3rd movie and discovered that there is a short film. Happy to find this little gem going to sit and watch with a nice cup of tea and bacon sandwich 😃

Johnny 5 was gold at the end of Short Circuit 2 when he became an American citizen.
Gold gets dirty and dark fast + I would assume gold plateing to him is like a tux.. Stupid to wear if you plan on being home all day or cleaning the garage...

the voice ruined it for me. i just can't watch it. if there was ever going to be a short circuit 3. i would set it more than 30 years after the events of the second film where a private military company hired some people to create new versions of the SAINT robots but also with artificial intelligence. they would succeed for a bit until lightning strikes 2 of the robots who would both gain some form of AI where one would see the world for what it can be while the other sees it for what it is and wants to destroy things. the good robot and its creators try to hide from dark forces as they learn about the original SAINT program as well as johnny 5 who has been presumed dead but in reality is more than just alive. he's evolved into a robot that understands both ways of the world and wants to help the good robot as he also is aware that the bad one is beyond reason. we would get appearances from newton crosby, stephanie, benjamin, fred and sandy from the 2nd film as they would help be the ones to keep johnny 5 hidden. it would be a mixture of ideas from the films of the MCU!!!! but also to reach the spirit of those films.

I pictured it modern day. Family buys an old abandoned piece of farmland. Child finds secret room under the barn. Newton moved away, but kept the farm for Johnny. Even with Johnny being a citizen(Nova replacement...generic.Government Baddies) came looking for him on the farm, and he was forced to hide in a secret vault of his making, but ran out of power. The movie can be the 2 (him and kid)unfolding mysteries, since Johnny is Johnny, but memories missing. Towards the end they find a back up disk in the computer in the barn, and Johnny retrieves his memories and defeats baddies. With memories recovered: He lets Stephanie and Newton know he is alive and visits them (cameo), but with a new relationship bonding to the kid, Johnny stays w the kid. setting up an optional sequal.

I SOOOOO BAD want to see a new short circuit... IDK if I would rather see a reboot or a sequel. Probably a reboot of the original story but maybe change it up a little. There was a picture online of a guy who wandered into a broom closet at a Universal?or some other theme park type place and there was the gold johnny 5 sitting there, It was cool, it was like johnny 5 was asleep.

It's surprising how relevant most of the tips in this video are today. Shows that car theft has hardly changed at all. Of course it's even better with Johnny 5.

What I would give to have the skills to build my very own replica of Number "Johnny" Five and if I could, I would build my replica to look exactly just like how he had appeared of the 1986 and 1988 films down to the last detail and I would give mine the additional head and face coverings that would be attachable and removable and a switchable laser and toolbox.
Fun fact: Johnny Five was provided by the All Effects Company, which is, in fact, the same company that also provided the turtle costumes and Splinter puppet for the 1993 martial arts superhero comedy film "Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles III", but I think the people who worked for Jim Henson's Creature Shop did a much better job of providing the costumes and puppets for the first two films that were released in 1990 and 1991.
Ever since I had came across this short film, I had often wondered why the people who worked on it didn't have Tim Blaney voice as Johnny Five again for it too.
It might have been a budget or scheduling issue, Blaney was active as a puppeteer at that time, and he probably couldn't squeeze it in, or they simply couldn't get him for whatever reason.

Short Circuit 3, Life - What is is all about. Start with Johnny Five in a new place. Somewhere that is full of life. Create a counterpart for Johnny, a female . Call it Stefanie 6. Alley Shepherd as Stephanie. Make her pink, with hot red treads. The point of the movie is Johnny learns about whst it is like to live as a family. Show basic living conditions , like how to buy a house, going to work, going to school. This would show us the audience, a new spin on things. Bring back Nova Robotics. You need to bring back the characters which chased Johnny Five. Steve Guttenberg, definitely needs to be in it. Make it like an adventure, with comedy, music, animals , and of course, little Johnny Fives. This could be a great movie that returns to a classic. Peace, boozos. Needs work on the script. But, would make a great project. I wish I could help.
