BC baby orca: Stuck in lagoon for weeks, killer whale calf is finally free

- At 2:30 a.m. Friday at high tide, B.C.’s orphaned orca whale calf, Kwee-sa-hay-is or 'Brave Little Hunter,' swam past the sandbar where her mother beached and died, towards Little Espinosa Inlet, and onto Esperanza near Zeballos.
The calf has been stuck in a shallow lagoon since March 23, when she and her mother swam through a narrow channel connected to the ocean.

Orcas (also known as killer whales) are indeed dolphins. They are the largest members of the dolphin family (Delphinidae) and are closely related to porpoises. While they are often referred to as “killer whales,” this name is a misnomer, as they are not actually whales, but rather dolphins
they are however really good at killing; they exist on every ocean, which means that they are probably the most effective predator on the planet - never mind being highly intelligent and capable of teamwork, they are the dominant rulers of one entire realm of the earth; no other animal comes close to that claim. 25 feet long, 3 tons or more and they can jump 10 feet clear of the water just as easily as Flipper, chasing Flipper at 40 miles an hour, and they have a lifespan similar to humans . . . . they are truly amazing creatures

Orcas life span and maturity are fairly similar to human standards, so does this mean the Orca calf is essentially a 2 year old child, lost, alone, with no one to care for it like if a 2 year old human child would be in the same situation?
Weeks of nothing but waste of time and money. The calf just didn't want to leave it's morher. They are smart. Unlike the pople around the calf.

Why did Global News join in on reporting this story to make it into an indigenous "rescue" mission? After all of the "rescue" efforts that failed, the little whale left that lagoon without anyone's help. Couldn't find any stories about a cat needing to be rescued from a tree or telephone pole by the local fire department or telephone linesman? This one dragged on for weeks!
It wasn’t “trapped” if it eventually swam out on its own. Another non-story.

What are the odds she will survive. Satellite tracker anyone ?We put them on all manner of sea creatures. Why not her?
She's young and under a stressful situation as it was. She's smart and already evaded the attempt to put her in a sling. They didn't want to risk adding to her stress by tagging her.
I'm happy the whale got out. But all the people in this video have something about them that really creeps me out.
