Debbie Mucarsel-Powell: We Must Protect Our Democracy

“Republicans have created chaos,” Debbie Mucarsel-Powell, the Democrat who is running to defeat Republican Sen. Rick Scott in November, told Floricua during a one-on-one interview.
The former Congresswoman who served Florida’s 26th congressional district from 2019 to 2021, blames state Republicans for attacking fundamental civil rights, including a woman’s right to choose.
She also calls out the state’s Republican-majority government for the high cost of property insurance, the lack of affordable healthcare, the lax gun laws that endanger Floridians, and inaction in dealing with climate change.
“People need to understand that most of the policies that are affecting families here are the result of state laws that have been passed over the past 20, 30 years and that’s been under Republican control,” says Mucarsel-Powell, who says she will work to protect Floridians’ fundamental freedoms, as well as protect Medicare, Social Security, and the Affordable Care Act.
