    I can remember not that long ago when the 2+2 models from the 60's were dirt cheep. For me tho I have always liked the four seaters. I'd love to have a 412 someday. I guess I'll have to settle for my '05 CL55 for now though.

    • @stevendaly110
      @stevendaly110 3 роки тому

      Yes, I can remember when a local car dealership had a tatty, dark green Series 1 330 GT for sale for $25,000 (Australian). That was the early 80s. I asked my dad to take me to see it, because, as a teenager I was fanatical about Ferraris. Not having any money, nor a driver's licence, it was just to check it out. But yes, at that time, no one was really interested in such cars. Both the Series 1 and Series 2 were considered ugly and, in a way, they were; aesthetically so very different to the values of the 80s. Although I loved the 330, I thought it was ugly too. Not any more, though, of course. We see them with different eyes now.
      But on the question of lost opportunities, yes, I've always wanted to own a Ferrari and never have. I love my 2002 Porsche Boxster and am happy with that. The lessons I've learnt, though, as I've watched the used Ferrari market for 3+ decades are these:
      If you want a Ferrari and your budget is modest, go for the model no one wants at the time they are considered ugly or inferior or both. Those models will one day have their day. I've been close-but-not-close enough to being able to afford a Mondial, a 308GT4, the 400 series and a 365GT4 at various times, yet not quite been able to make the stretch and now, of course, such cars are way out of my reach.
      Don't buy it unless you can afford to spend 25% of the purchase price again on straightening it out in the first few months of ownership. Or you can do everything yourself.
      Be content with what you have. Yes, Ferraris are special cars but something cheaper, more common and more reliable might just provoke more smiles and less tears in the long run.

    There are some underrated Ferraris from back in the day. The 250 GTE and the 330 GT 2+2 are just two great examples for that. Underrated in a sense of you're getting all the luxurious feeling and amazing design and engine art of Ferrari, but you're not fully breaking the bank. 200 - 250k EUR are still a s*%&load of money but in the greater scheme of things compared to a 250 SWB or even a Daytona...is it really worth the premium, if the main reason to buy them is to drive them?

    Nice video, my complements.
    Driving the old ones is an event, daily or occasionally. From a performance standpoint, the modern ones are superior but to what end? The 330 GT 2+2 Series 2 had an original build total (from 1965-1967, both RHD & LHD) of 455. Probably 250 remain. Although it's 'old fashioned' with a live rear axle, it's the same chassis as the 500 Superfast and very similar to the 400 Superamerica. I think Mr. Ferrari may have been onto something using the 2+2s as his regular drivers while leaving the racers on the track. Although they sort of were on the track in period; I believe a 330 GT 2+2 Series1 was used as the marshal's / pace car at the 1965 running of Le Mans and a 330 GT 2+2 Series 2 was used for the same purpose in 1966.

    Before I watch this. Disclosure. I have never driven a Ferrari. It would seem to me that they are two different animals. One is an occasion of an older time. A throwback to sporty gentlemanly Grand Touring. The other is an occasion of doing it in a modern way. Faster and overall it is probably better in every way. Except, that the 330 is probably more of an occasion for the senses. More engaging. Imo. After watching I stand with my viewpoint. The Lusso makes muvh more sense to me. But, the 330 stirs something deep inside of my 57 year old soul. I can imagine a tingle coming over me as I approach her for a drive together. Preferably just the two of us.

    Lusso's a do-everything practical machine with that N/A imperious V12 and rear-biased four wheel drive.
    The GT's also practical in terms of accommodation and comfort but with the addition of sensational classic design.
    Both have excellent qualities in terms of driver involvement and sound.
    The GT's 300 horse power and 150 mph is still an awful lot of performance for the public highway if not of the comparatively lightning-quick level of the Lusso. Probably also needs very high levels of specialist servicing to keep it sweet but it also demands much higher skills to drive very fast.
    The GT wins for sheer visual theatre. A true thoroughbred from a golden era.

      Reluctant 2nd gear when cold was a Ferrari thing on virtually all models from the early 60's (maybe earlier) through the late 90's when they first introduced F1 (paddle-shifting) on the 355 (where it had to be fixed because skipping 2nd wasn't possible). It should only take about 10 minutes of driving on the 330GT for 2nd gear to be fine. It takes about 20 minutes of driving for the engine oil to come up to full operating temperature.

A Ferrari should be a thing of beauty, a rolling sculpture that gets used on special occasions. A piece of escapism from the drudgery of life. When it becomes an everyday car you bring it down to the same level of daily drudgery like everything else, sitting at traffic lights, trying to find parking spots, stop start city driving .........ughhh!!

    @yaluaka 4 роки тому +1

    I owned a 330gt for about 20 years and put 30,000 miles on it. I loved it but, the maintenance on a Ferrari of that era was a killer. Close to $3 a mile on rebuilding absolutely everything multiple times. There really is nothing practical about it. Plus the car gets quite hot in the summer. Most people who own Ferraris of this vintage actually use them sparingly. Either their worried about the cars value or they don’t find it makes sense for many long trips with out a ride along mechanic. Loved loved the car, hated how many times I ended up on a tow truck. One more thing the 330 2 +2 handles great for a car of that era but is a poor handling car compared to the 2 seat Ferraris. The engine is quite heavy and the car tends to plow if you really push it.

    100% I'd buy the 1966 car (assuming I could of course). And the reason is simple. Nobody is going to key scratch a 1966 masterpiece. Even the hardest cold-hearted scumbag would look at the 1966 car and think "Nah, put the key away, I can't do it." But the Lusso would be getting key scratched every day.

    Neither, my 412 GTi (manual) is a better compromise. Enough classic feel, Pininfarina style and last of the Colombo V12s.... But if I had to choose, the 330 GT every time; that Lusso is soooo ugly

    I think the Lusso is a fabulous car, but it can't hold a candle to the 330GT, you can't build that kind of character in any car today, there is little to no passion these days, cars are based on how many usb's and nonsense

    330 a masterpiece, and... the 330 gtc is one of the most beautiful Ferraris ever. The Gtc4 is one of the worst looking ones imho. Ps 3:53 and 4:53 look at the back of the Car

      @@2manycars713 the ff gets credited as ferraris first 4 wheel drive car but it wasn't there was a 408 built back in the 80s looked abit like a cross between a Honda nsx and Ford rs200 , this was there first 4 wheel drive car , but was cancelled , this 4rm 4 wheel drive system was then developed for the ff . But being a 4 seat ferrari it follow the 400 series , 456 and 612 and become a fairly cheap way to own a v12 ferrari . The overly complicated 4 wheel drive system will be horrendous when it needs replacing though .

      @@paulthomson9709 Yes I’m aware of the 408 RM but this was just a prototype so it doesn’t count. I wouldn’t say it’s a cheap way to own a V12 Ferrari, I paid £304,000 for mine. If you want a cheap V12 you could buy a 400/412i/Testatossa/512TR/512LM/456/550/575/612/FF/F12 all of these are cheaper than the GTC4 but nowhere near as good. And the Lusso is so well developed that I wouldn’t worry about their 4 wheel drive system. I know of guys that have smashed 60,000kms on there Lusso’s without a single problem. Just like mine, not a single problem. And with the 4 year warranty that can be extended if needed, and the free 7 years servicing I really wouldn’t worry. But above all this, no matter what, I don’t worry about what ‘could’ go wrong, because it probably won’t and if it did then Ferrari would fix it because they wouldn’t want to lose face. And you know what I’m going to buy when I come to get rid of my GTC4 Lusso? Another GTC4 Lusso because they’re just that good.
