This song just brings me to tears, it makes me miss my father who passed almost 3 years ago before me and my twins birthday. My twin sister played this and I loved it S/O MAYER HAWTHORNE! FOR AWESOME MUSIC!

It's become so hard for me to listen to this over the years. It makes me think of my dad and how much I've spent my life trying to live up to be the kind of man he is. I can understand why Mayer was hesitant to put it on the album at first. It's hard me to listen to it without crying. I can't imagine how hard it was to record it.

Had honestly never even heard of Mayer until I saw the performance at the Winter Classic. And all I can say is what a perfect first impression! Will be buying the new CD (yes, I still like to physically own media) as well as older albums. Thanks for making fantastic music to warm me up during these long Winnipeg winters!

Quite interesting reading the comments to this video and the comparisons with Steely Dan. I don't know why anyone should be surprised as Mayer Hawthorne is very open and honest about his love of Steely Dan and their influence on his own music. As he said in an interview with Spin magazine when discussing his 'Where Does This Door Go?' album...
“So much Steely Dan in this album. My motto’s always been: ‘If you don’t like Steely Dan, I don’t like you.’ Steely Dan is a great divider among music fans. Either you love it or you don’t. I don’t know anyone who kind of likes Steely Dan. It’s very divisive. Fortunately everyone who I worked with on this record really appreciated it. I think even people who like Steely Dan as much as I do can admit that there’s nothing sexy about Steely Dan. And so basically what I tried to do on this album was to take Steely Dan and make it sexy.”

I get your point but that's just not a fair comparison Temptations have 32 years on their side and total song recognition/name recognition.
I love this, this is SOOOOO Pharrell, you can hear his signature and formula all over this, from the predictable but lovely chord progressions to the clumsy lyrics.

um... wow I wasn't being rude at all, simmer down sweety. "that Peg song" has very clear similarities or so many people wouldn't make the comparison. There's nothing wrong with the fact it is similar, clearly many of his songs have similar rifts etc from songs in the past. You're probably just too young to realize that.
Sorry, but you're wrong! Pharrell Williams is a talented guy but this isn't his song.....this is directly based on "Peg" by Steely Dan. Mayer Hawthorne has publicly stated this in interviews. Plus, you don't sound as if you even know the first thing about Steely Dan.......so you aren't qualified to determine whether this sounds like Steely Dan or not...........and it does!

Pharrell Williams produced and helped write the song. It's definitely influenced by the song "Peg" but it bears some trademark features of a Pharrell produced song as well.

This song is great and slept on. So is the album. Weird, and not normally my cup of tea, but great!
It may be weird to you but his sound it not foreign. He has a heavy motown influence along with 70's/80's rock. Listen to "The Walk" and "Long Time" you can easily see the similarites in the sounds. This guy gets it and for once someone who has actually tried to break out in the industry he's trying to keep those amazing sounds of the past alive.
