    Great video ... at last .. one that delves into the complexity of the 910's controls. It would be very helpful to have a video that describes the function, and more importantly, the interaction of ALL the controls on the feature driven flash, many thanks for a great start!

    You should try Aperture mode on the flash; all you have to do is set the ISO being used and the Aperture. There is a sensor on the flash and when in Aperture mode it will output the correct amount of light based on the flash settings and the light sensor reading. If shooting on the hot shoe of some bodies, the body will transmit the ISO and Aperture settings for you while the flash is in Aperture mode -- if not just set it on the flash. I normally use iTTL; however when using a modern flash that does not support TTL on a film body then placing the flash in Aperture mode is all one needs to do; plus, it will also handle situations where you are bouncing the light off a wall or ceiling.

      So: I put A mode on the Flash and 1/60 on camera, then the flash says me what aperture f stop I have to use ?

      Not really. Set it before hand for an f8 exposure at your most commonly used distance. Adjust the power as necessary.

    Very informative and good explanantion.
    I have Nikon D7200 and SB910. I have never used SB910 as I am not able to get the settings right.
    I have Nikon 16-85 f2.4-4 lens. Interested in wedding photography. Aperture varies according the photo. What would be the optimal setting. I plan to use ISO 100 or ISO 200. All indoor and night photography. Any tips ?
    Thanks

      Hi Shahidr, first of all, you'll want to keep the ISO low, so 100 would be ideal. However, what would happen is you'll get a well exposed subject with a dark background. Sometimes this effect works, sometimes it doesn't. It's really your call. The advantage is you get separation from the background and high resolution (low noise).
      If you want the entire scene to be well illuminated, you could go for a higher iso, but I wouldn't venture over 400.
      With digital, you can play around with flash power and angles. Try to bounce your flash and see how that looks. Adjust the flash power accordingly. If you can't bounce the flash, use a bounce card (the sb910 has one built in).
      If you can, scope out your locations before hand to get a rough idea of what flash settings you'd need.
      All the best :)

    Hello there! At 3:12, you intimate which setting you've got to utilize, but I don't know which of the right-most two circular buttons you're pressing to make the ensuing changes you aimed for. Would you mind explaining, when time permits? I missed the choice in your speedy explanation. Thank you! :)

    • @photobite5698
      @photobite5698  7 років тому

      Hi, you've got 3 circular buttons at the top. The leftmost one determines the focal length of the lens, the rightmost one determines the aperture and the one in the middle changes the power of the flash.
      At 3:12, I didn't press anything, I was just hovering my thumb. Hope that helps :)

    I say nikon to nikon should be able to read all settings, and act accordingly. You had to tell it the ISO and more. Somehow this should be much more automated. I'm an engineer type (Mechanical) I become gobsmacked as to how much available techknowledgy they (Manufacturing Co.) Forgo/neglect to add as features or software updates. Now we run into an insurmountable obstacle? Marketing, Must Always leave room to upgrade and of course , charge more. It's simple really, just upsetting as I run into this when changing hobbies, learning something new. As an engineer I see it pretty darn good. As I know most of you do. Just a rant.. id prefer to have the best for cheap of course, but that won't pay those CEOs bills now will it? Peace out, happy photography.

    can i do all that via radio transmition? granted easy to do with flash on camera, but when using strobes a pain in the butt, or you have a different suggestion?

    • @photobite5698
      @photobite5698  8 років тому

      I haven't used Nikon's own radio transmitter (or even a good one like a pocket wizard), so I can't say. However, if you're using multiple strobes, it's best to experiment using a digital camera.

    Iso is not a word! It is I.S.O. ....ok, ok, ok!

    • @photobite5698
      @photobite5698  2 роки тому

      I thought it was both, as in you can use them interchangeably. It’s an abbreviation of the Greek word, isos, meaning equal.

    • @ponymoore6140

      @@photobite5698 just my pet hate, Im afraid. I.S.O stands for International Standards Organisation.

      @photobite5698  2 роки тому

      @@ponymoore6140 Yeah, I get that, however, I’d counter that it’s become an acronym in its own right, like laser, scuba, PIN, IMAX, etc.
