It's a line of sight system, so a pre-exposure burst from the built-in flash triggers off-camera Speedlights. Since the built in flash goes off a split second before the shutter, its light isn't visible in the picture when in CLS commander mode.
Thanks for this review - I just bought an SB910 to add to my SB900 - I think they're going to be a powerful duo!
Excellent overview. You presented exactly what I needed to know and quickly! Very good use of time. (So tired of meandering youtube videos...). Thank you!
I have not sold off my D810 and sb910 yet... so this video has come in handy...
@dawayen The first mention of the price is at 0:22 -- it doesn't make it cheap by any means, but there's no build-up for a let-down.
Mark Wallace always does a Great Job in his reviews, and his easy to understand explanations. … JP
I got three of them and I love them, Ian gonna get four more.
I have 2 and can't wait for the firmware from pocket wizard to work with my TT5 and SB-910
you guys are talking price, when this item has been out for a few months now. I have (2) of them and a sb-700, which i am getting rid. i just ordered (2) more sb-910, i will have (4) in all. these are great. but it would have been nice if Nikon would have recalled all of them and upgraded and added the extras free of charge.
great video informed me but still would like to see how to change some things on the flash, like the 3 illuminations modes
Got a SB-910. Best product from Nikon yet. Why? It comes with a lunchbox 8P
Got my answer from Nikon.com. Here it is for others.
Supplied Accessories are:
AS-21 Speedlight Stand
SW-13H Nikon Diffusion Dome
SZ-2FL Fluorescent Filter
SZ-2TN Incandescent Filter
SS-910 Soft Case
I really like this channel especially the learning stuff but this wasn't a review, it was a promotional video for Nikon. Is it worth upgrading if you already have SB900? Is a $500+ speed light right for enthusiasts?
all these options the SB700 had a year ago
I think i prefer the scroll button instead of the press button.
It really seems as though we can expect the next generation of cameras to have radio triggering built in.
The new Canon flash has this.
This unit is obviously not for me as a hobbiest,but still,it's great to see the advances that are taking place.
I think Nikon has missed a little on not having a RF system up for it's new line of cameras and flashes.at least I'm under the impression this doesn't have it.
So, they gave the 910 the same light-weighting capability, "gels" and case of the SB-700s? Too bad they can't give my 700s ability to use external batteries. :)
Ok info but confusing - it mixes what IS and what IS NOT different from the SB-900 throughout the discussion.
Did you keep your 600 when you bought the 910? I'm a budget photographer and thinking about getting rid of 600 once I have the 910. My local bestbuy doesn't have one on stock. I always buy online. If you don't mind, would you send me comparison between these two lenses?
Great videos! does the sb-700 have the same thermal cut out feature? How does it compare to the new 910? thanks :)
is there a difference between the preset illumination patterns VS setting the zoom manually to wide or tele?
@fjgindy You really hit the mark on this.
The word 'REVIEW' is in the title of this video as well as the desciption statement and is misleading as it is clearly a product introduction. A review should cover a products strengths and weaknesses from an unbiased standpoint.
I find it awkward to see these types of videos from Mark as I think of him more as an instructor.Now if he was to use these products in his One on One episodes making mention of their capabilities as well as showing them in use
I'm running a D800 and can't get the built in flash on the camera not to fire when, I'm using the 910 wireless as a speed light. Does the 910 strictly trigger from a master flash or, does the radio signal trigger it? If so, how?
Can you flash it with another flash it ?
Can you tell me what are the items included in the product box?
My SB-900 serves me just fine and the case that came with it is brilliant! I can put knife, fork, chopsticks, or even a small bottle of hot sauce. Goes along with the 'lunch box' quite well. Thank you Nikon!! XD
PS. I love Nikon though ;)
Is it worth upgrading from SB-600?
yes
Can I use this mounted on the godox X2T trigger?
Can you change the Af-area from single to Dynamic area?
Hi my SB-910 has just arrived from Japan. The booklet is written in Japanese. Farrr out, what about the english readers. Anyway I wanted to ask your opinion on the batteries. There are 4 slots for batteries of AA size. Can I just use the normal Energy batteries instead of going to purchase the re-chargeables...please advise
@dukoduli The comments section of these pages are here to voice our opinions, good or bad.You don't like my opinion? good for you,doesn't change my mind.
does it still show the distance range on the lcd when you move the head?
I just worked it out
Is it 150 W/s?
How much???😳
Sweet dreams: I got mine for $120. Used and very well taken care of….
If Mark doesn't mention the price during the first few minutes, expect a high price. Basic sales-talk. Justify the price before indicating the price.
great flash. saved my lunch money to buy one. blows my 700 away.
@bustersgotavmax
keep your opinions to yourself, trust me, its for the best
hey i have a question, i was going to buy the sb-910 and the country i live in it was discontinued since nikon came out with the sb-5000 but the reviews on line and others retailers are not the greatest. So, if you were to buy one, which one would you go for and why? thanks!
Just got mine on eBay. Check their feedback. In the states it was $200 more. So I went with someone from Japan
If both were available at the store, I'd go for the SB-910. Less money for a flash that can do the job just fine. I don't see enough reason to shell out more money for the gimmicky SB-5000 unless it's the only one available in stock. In which case you have no choice.
Yes it is you'll so love it I have the 600 as well, it's so more simple to use. Buy it at Best buy try it if you don't like take it back within 30 days and they'll give you a full refund
I wish I could afford one.
You talk about how it has 2 illumination patterns but dont show us how to change it.
mis respetosos votos de protesta por no sacar tuturiales nikon en español imidioma amplio y bonito que ?
500.95 cents. Best flash.
sounds like my sb700 with more buttons
i know you have to do your job and advertise for adorama but this is too much. feature such as the lunchbox is ridiculous . how peple store the flash is entirely up to the bag they have. and i have seen mmost people store it as a straight flat. it makes much more sense since you can stack them together nicely. why would a folded V shape is better?
@TheAleksander22
Since Mark's relationship with Adorama, he no longer provides unbiased "reviews". They are obviously all promotional video's for Adorama sales now.....
cheaper in Canada.... got mine for $449
You forgot the instructions in English and Spanish and a cheat book :-)
@bustersgotavmax
:)
@dukoduli Do explain yourself,Mr.Angry.
What a mess and this video that shows the flash but do not use? I wanted to see the difference of light that he has for other older models
@bustersgotavmax
So what you are basically saying is stop doing Introduction or Reviews because some people do not agree withe TITLE?
keep opinions to yourself buddy, as some of us appreciate any review or intro or any info, If you don't like a video why cant you just press back/forward button instead of being 'smart' here...
GOOEY?! 😂
it's blood clot expensive!
overpriced
yes
