This was very informative, thanks man. For the many years I've been using RA, I've never messed with the latency settings. Latency has always felt fine to me on my PC and G-Sync monitor. Turns out that NES and SNES have a tiny bit of latency. Using run-ahead by 1 frame actually makes a noticeable difference. TurboGrafx-16 has 2 frames of latency, so pretty wild improvement there! Later today I'm gonna see how much latency I've been suffering from on arcade games. N64 and PS1 instantly crash when I use run-ahead, but that could be due to the CRT shader I'm using. It's the HSM Mega Bezel Reflection shader, and it is super heavy. It's by far my favorite shader. With a bit to tweaking, it can look absolutely stunning. I'd be happy to share my preset. EDIT: Had to switch from BSNES to Snes9x because run-ahead was causing lots of stutter. This sucks because I like to use 2x resolution in Mode 7 games like F-Zero. Oh well... Small price to pay. What kind of gamer would I be to pick resolution over control response?
I use BSNES HD for Super Metroid because I decided to try the widescreen version (wish I'd just played the regular in hindsight, because it makes some secrets too obvious). Anyway, it was totally perfect until I was literally at the end of the game. Some of the large rooms stutter when I use the grappling beam, otherwise the run-ahead is totally fine, but still better with SNES 9x. I haven't played any of the other games with bsnes lately, so I'll have to check out the 2x mode 7 thing... see if I can get it running with run ahead, lol.
Runahead is awesome. Thanks for making this video! I've got a couple things to point out. Runahead latency reduction does not remove all input lag it only removes the lag baked into the rom. You are still going to have lag from the emulator, display and controller. It might look like you have removed the lag when you pause emulation and advance frames but if you start up the emulation again (play the game) all the other forms of lag are going to be there. I use a crt, a wired controller and runahead and I typically have around 3 to 4 frames of lag. It's best to test with a direction input with runahead instead of the jump button. Direction buttons typically have less input lag and you will lose frames of animation if you set runahead too high. There's a bunch of other stuff you can do to limit input lag like disable v sync, sync the gpu and use frame delay.

I like to use the sharp-bilinear-simple shader for a sharp pixelated image without scrolling artifacts. It's a good option if you don't like the small image size of integer scaling.
I think I remember playing bomber man for SNES with up to 8 players online using a program called zbattle. My childhood was amazing 😂. Got to play with people around the world before lobbies were a thing. With voice over IP even. Good times. Last I saw it was dead tho.

I believe the PS2 had 5 ports. Controller Port 1 + Controller Port 2 w/ Multitap that had 4 additional ports. Although I never considered the possibility double multitaps

Can anyone explain to me why you can't do a simultaneous multiple button press on Android RetroArch???? On a wireless Bluetooth video game controller. For example sega Genesis Golden Axe 2 , you can't perform the back attack by pressing the attack and jump button at the same time. I emailed the developer but he ignores me, every single time. This is a ongoing issue. This makes most games freaking unplayable, especially fighting games like Marvel vs Capcom. Mame4droid 0.139 doesn't have the issue, why does RetroArch??
playing online with retroarch is an absolute nightmare you can see players hosting games you want to join but can never join them because the settings have to be exact so if your core list does not contain the same core your screwed and chances are your file names dont match and its a pain to change it to the exact same name as the other player.
I'm on android im an advanced user I like to search for my own cheat codes and make them myself one question I have is floating pointer I'm use to being attached to cheat engine so it had floaters ik on the android version doesn't have that option to choose to search are there other tricks that would work with finding pointers

So I'm building a new PC soon. Old PC is going to get repurposed as an emulation station. What OS would you recommend? I'd like to be able to run REW easily, so I'm thinking windows because I don't want to mess with dual booting on an emulation station. However, I would need to run REW so infrequently that I could simply install a ssd with windows on it for when I need it and run a different OS for every day emulation station usage. It won't really need to do any HTPC duty, because I have a plex server and a Nvidia Shield for that.
When I play SNES games on here, they look like pixelated trash unless I play at a tiny little resolution. How do I make it render the way an actual SNES would?

Hello my friend. Im messing with retro arch lately and i have some problem with controllers. I tried a official playstation4 controller and it works well except the rumble do not work in retro arch but works very well in pcsx2 emulator and i dont understand why . Ive installed the ds4 driver and every thing works except the vibration in retro arch. Also i tried a xbox 360 wired controller and retro arch seems to detect it but its not working but in others emulators like pcsx2 it works well. So maybe a video on how to make few different controller on retro arch could be a good idea if you like the idea . Thank for your good retro arch over view , i learned many good tips.

I can never get thumbnails for ps1, psp, saturn, and a lot of other systems to download. Most disc based systems. Even if i manually scan .cue .m3u etc. I can create playlist for the systems but it's as if there aren't any thumbnails in the database for them.

I wonder if Retroarch supports driving wheels. I have tried running Outrun through Fireburn Neo or Cannonball with my Logitech wheel to no avail.
