Oh yes, keeping this beautiful history alive is key. Cherokee blood running thru your veins? I would be shouting that from the rooftops. I get excited that I am a descendant of Vikings. I spent a summer with my mom's best friend on the Onandogan Reservation in Syracuse NY, Cristi it was and is one of my favorite memories. I was treated so good, I was so welcomed and the land! Well I guess I don't have to tell you. Thanks so much for sharing this! Bev from Brooklyn!

OMG Jul!!! This is crazy, I'm from Brooklyn so please don't mind my excitement! I have never heard of Percy until this video right now! I have always had a connection in my heart to Appalachia, I don't know why. Maybe I lived there in another life, but the stories, culture, family love, hard work that most people couldn't do on their best day. I can't leave out my favorite part, when mountain people party! It is a sight to behold, the food, the shine, the laughter and most of all the dancing, I call it clogging but I think there are different names for it! Sorry to talk your ear off but I can't believe your comment, I am truly impressed, have to find out who Popcorn is! Thanks so much, Bev

Sure wish more businesses operated with a mind on employees and community. I just don't know how I feel about an illegal operation. the government made it illegal so THEY could have more money.. it was once said, "the government doesn't have money, they have OUR money". I know a lot of good comes from our taxes, but that doesn't mean I enjoy paying them. Great story, and as always, great sound track.

Feeding the school children epic praise! The poor kids could rely on a decent meal at school! Thank God. Hey JD! Imagine my surprise when I saw this story! When I was 6 years old, we lived on the road between Mr. Percy and Mr. Jimmy's stores. I could walk to Mr. Jimmy's store. Mr. Percys granddaughter road my school bus. We went to Archers Lodge Elementary School. It's long gone now. But Flower's Plantation covers several miles between 96 hwy on 42 hwy almost to the Clayton city limit. All housing developments and huge apartment buildings, shopping malls, schools, you name it, it's there. I remember both these men and their beautiful hounds. We live a few miles away towards Wilson just off 42 hwy now. There is still a Percy Flower's store on 42 hwy 😊.

There was a bakery in Bluefield WV named Flowers Bakery. After watching this I wonder if there was a connection there.
Thanks JD for another great video. I am in Florida but I was so glad that damn Hurricane got out of here. I lost power for two days and had to run the big generator. It cost me about $150.00 just for gas. But I was one of the lucky ones here in Citrus County. Parts of Crystal River is still under water. I hope you didn't have to deal with that. Have a great day JD.

Percy's peach brandy was world famous. Where his store was located is a new store with a NC ABC store. That store will never sell as much liquor as Percy old store sold. My uncle was friends with Percy and I remember going in store in Johnston County to see Percy.

    Good one,
And the lesson here is most good guys will do all they can to support their communities. And are a ton better at it than the government is. I really like these (rest of the story) style stories. Keep’m coming.

I live in Johnston County NC right down the street from the old Flowers farm. Percy may have been a generous person that was kind to his neighbors, but I can tell you his daughter isn't! She even told Arnold Palmer to go "F" himself when she tried to hire him to design a golf course for her and he gave her his price. She REALLY didn't like it and didn't hesitate to tell him so! I can also tell you that most of the acreage that Percy acquired has now been developed and turned into communities. I say "most" of the acreage because some of it still hides evidence, and that land is not only NOT being developed but you can't go taking a walk around there either! There's a very mysterious pond that no one is allowed access to on one of these plots of private land.
