When a modern game has most of what I'm happy with, I give it praise. These last few years have given us so many bangers, like RE4 remake, RE Village, Anger Foot, Teardown, Pepper Grinder, Hunt Showdown, Control, Doom Eternal, Valfaris, Katana Zero, Amnesia: The Bunker, Quake 2 Enhanced, The Evil Within 2, Half-Life: Alyx, I Am Fish, Kill It With Fire, Lifeslide, Little Nightmares 2, Nex Machina, Powerslave: Exhumed, Severed Steel, and so much more. These deserve a ton of praise! Great games should be talked about way more often. I really have to make time for others I haven't played yet, like Alan Wake 2 and The Talos Principle 2.
One reason I think these games are not gettting enough attention is Retro Gamers like their Physical Copies... I just ordered Contra from Ebay since I missed it on Limited Run, I do have Iron Meat pre-ordered from Strictly Limited, waiting on the GI Joe Beat em Up to start presales for Limited Run, Marvel vs Capcom I am waiting for the physical release, I don't know if the Power Rangers beat em up is going to release physically on day 1, etc. etc. All these games look great, but I have not played our bought them digitally as I am waiting for the physical release in hand before I play.
Another retro styled game that I personally enjoyed this year was Abathor. 2D side scrolling action adventure that plays like Rastan crossed with Golden Axe with a little Castlevania sprinkled in.
Thankfully channels like Game Sack, Happy Console Gamer, and yourselves exist. It’s refreshing to hear a positive spin on the industry and modern/retro gaming.
Honestly I think this is just a case of people who like the games are busy playing the games and those who don't are angrily making content online. Once you say a game is great and that you loved it, what more is there to say? On the other hand someone can build an entire personality and fanbase around their hatred of a single game they've never even tried.
Good morning young men. 53 Year old man who's retired. Love retro gaming and own PS 2 , WII U, VITA, 3ds XL. Xbox series X. Game room filled with older games. So buying old school modern games is tuff in this economy. The struggle is Real. I watch y'all for Intel on retro games and just hearing y'all talk.
I really wish trends were different. “Top 10 WORST ___” gets more clicks than “Top 10 BEST ___” almost every time. And when something great does get praise, everyone and their dog gives it praise when so many other great things don’t get acknowledged.
I love retro games and physical media. But, I have to admit that thanks to digital stores, a lot of indie developers can release amazing new retro inspired games. I love playing these new titles that draw inspiration from the classics.
I personally have been supporting retro games on new consoles . My PS4 collection is full of old ip and new ip retro games - Capcom Fighter Collection - Capcom Belt Action Collection - Ikaruga - Panzer Dragoon - Batsugan - Shakedown Hawaii - Broforce - Dodanpachi - Deathtiny - and much more. On the Xbox One I have the two Capcom Arcade Collections (incidentally I have the Capcom Collections volume 1 +2 on the original Xbox). I have always supported and will continue to do so old school games. Especially arcade games as the arcade is where I cut my gamer teeth 40+ years ago. Apparently enough people are despite what you may hear or not hear on youtube about them - that the game companies are responding.
Guys please keep banging the drum for these kind of topics - I’ve been following your page since 2k subs for this exact reason - in this day and age we are so quick to bury games yet when it comes to celebrating a successful release things get brushed under the carpet - let’s keep real gaming alive 👏🏼
This is why I made an effort to buy Astro Bot first week in store. It was my first ever new PS5 game purchase. We finally get a good mascot platformer that was PS5 exclusive so I had to show them I was a customer.
I think for me, with there having been a number of disappointments in recent years and rising costs, I've just become hesitant to buy games too quickly. So, these games are coming out and I haven't bought any yet. But after your recommendation I'll have a look at them. Thanks!
Give yourselves credit to your efforts and your reach: I'm in Canada, and until I saw your videos about them, I didn't know Operation Galuga or Cygnii existed; I righted that wrong and bought physicals of both right after. I would say this though: where does the responsibility really cross? All the pressure is on people with UA-cam channels and then the buyer, so when is it on game companies to market effectively, or to make the games readily available? Operation Galuga: Limited run and then through their retail partners. Cygnii: Amazon exclusive? It's hard not to feel like some things are made and then set to fail by design (Inter-office politics saw Sega of America and Sega of Japan engage in this in the past, for example), like, "See, we made it but they didn't come..." Anyway, I think there are a good number of us trying to show support, but I think that's a two way street is all I'm trying to say; there's room for improvement all around. Great video, boys!
I think you have to view it from a couple of different angles. 1. For big time content creators, stuff like Iron Meat may represent a risk to their brand or might not align with typical content on their channels. It’s unfortunate, but the stuff that gets the big views just isn’t Iron Meat, Contra, or Castlevania. 2. For some of the remakes like Silent Hill 2, it is pretty hard for content creators to create compelling material while streaming those games because they are single player, alone in the dark experiences. 3. For corporations like Konami, the proof is in the sales. Regardless of internet content, if the sales figures exceed expectations then that type of software will continue to release. If sales figures don’t meet expectations, then we can probably expect more modern gaming experiences that focus more on mass appeal.
Ha! I’m in my bedroom, doing the same thing. The room is okay, but I’m really needing a new station in life. We would be friends if we knew each other IRL.
Good topic! One retro game I recommend that didn’t come out this year but is awesome if you like Shmups is Aleste, which is a game gear game/collection that I think includes a newly developed Aleste game using game gear specs. It’s so much fun
I feel like I'm in a rut with collecting. I pretty much have anything retro I care about. I'm honestly thinking about down sizing. I have totes of games and consoles that have been in my closet for years. Anything I'm interested in playing gets played. I feel like I'm finally getting some use out of my ps5
Personally I can't afford the newer systems. I play my retro systems, but the newer systems are out of my price range. Putting food on my families table and keeping on the lights are way more important than the newer $400 plus systems.
I'll tell you why they're not there. The opinions on SH2 Remake are extremely divided! Also, I don't think Galuga is quite as good as it's Contra source material.
The Castlevania collections are amazing and Contra Operation Galuga is the bomb! Also Resident Evil 2 Remake is my favorite horror game. I don’t stream but I do plan on making videos on my channel about these.
I will always appreciate the classics. Nothing against newer games, but I do often find myself going back to playing old games and a lot of them still hold up to this day.
Iron Meat is such a bad ass game. Loved watching you guys live stream that a few weeks back. Really made me miss the old days of sitting with your buddies in a room and playing til you win.
I’m here with you man! The sparkster collection that was released this year was great as well, and the fact that we’re getting Suikoden 1 & 2 HD next year is insane! I guess that’s just how the algorithm is, more negativity brings in more clicks.
I think the physical scene for most of the titles you mentioned are big. Iron Meat for example sold out so fast. I buy almost all old school style 2D games so I’m loving all of this.
I am a retro/modern gamer. Currently not really focused on modern games because I cannot stand woke BS, but there are some incredible indie titles worth playing. I am currently collecting PC engine games because they are fairly inexpensive and the library is excellent.
I'm right here, i play both retro and modern and i do support the companies by buying the games. But i have such a backlog that i can't get find the time to get to them
How do you guys feel with most modern retro games? I this weird issue with wanting to play more retro games and discovering I struggle with the old controls or other issues in some games, but modern retro games have the feel of old games with some quality of life improvements as well as affordability that has made them grow on me considerably.
I personally have to say for me, with the limited amount of time I have to actually play and enjoy games, when I go into a store it really comes down to I love the retro games so much that I choose the retro games. I am glad that these companies are pumping out these games still, but given the choice I tend to go for nostalgia over new and exciting. Great debate video guys. Keep up the good work. Cheers
Shredder revenge was a great title and I had alot of fun with it. This week we have the return of Legacy of Freaking Kain. A series i thought was left to dust.
Big retro gamer here with my CRT’s with my AV Famicom, SNES Jr, Non-TMSS model 1 Genesis, Core Grafx, PSX, Saturn and N64 hooked up via HD Retrovision cables with Everdrives and ODE’s.
Retro and modern gamer here, actually on my channel I have made a list of the 3 Castlevania DS games walkthrough, I'll upload for the GBA games in December due for having quite some work. Also, I did not know Iron meat had a physical version for ps5, I'm waiting for my copy of Tomba. SH2 I've bought it and really loved it, although I did not like how the characters looked. Salutations from Mexico.
I'm so busy with a backlog of games I haven't even had time to catch up to remakes 😂. Like I was a huge dead space fan when that came out in 2009 or whatever, and I have yet to play the remake. I need time to stop to allow me to catch up.
It has been so long since Konami was good company. That since then, I have travelled the world, had many relationships, lost people, tripped on acid, become a hippie, understood the evils of materialism and capitalism, come down off my trip, spent 10 years working to support education in southern Ethiopia for a non profit organisation. …… and now Konami make a good game and I have I have no idea what life is anymore. 😭
The state of retro style gaming is way better currently than modern generation style gaming. The most recent new games I have bought are iron meat and the castlevania dominus collection. The most recent modern game I have bought is probably final fantasy 16 over a year ago.
Remember how everyone bashed Konami when they let go Kojima and do Pachinko machine. People didn't realized how hemorrhaging Kojima wasted so much money without no sight of ending the game. I was with them. They have to make money back somehow. That's why they do compilation games. I am excited to get Suikoden 1&2 combo next Spring 2025.
100% agree too much complaining and not enough research. It’s easy to fall into negative patterns in life let alone gaming and keep harping on about the “good old days” and not keep an eye out for good new modern retro titles. It sucks in the UK as we got a really limited run of iron meat physical but I really wanna play that game! Huntdown is another modern retro banger. Hard as hell when you get further in but so good
We are in the midst of arguably the best shmup generation with indie devs and M2 ShotTriggers just killing it, and Konami not releasing a Gradius, Salamander/Life Force, and/or Parodius complilation yet is absolutely criminal. Same with their other classic shmups. Heck, I'd buy a standalone release of just Gradius Gaiden. I love the Contra games and Iron Meat, of course, but bring us the shooters, please! That's my two cents.
I don't think it's necessarily people don't want to get behind them, It's just more people now don't have money. Everything is more expensive and more people have to make tough decisions now with their money, On my end I really want to buy these games and year ago I could of, But now? Its not the case, That's just the reality for most people now. Times are hard.
I've been saying for years that if you love gaming to just stop getting excited for the AAA games out there, and go all in on Indie, because that is where the best games are these days. Iron Meat is great, for example. I bought it on Steam and it certainly is one of my most played games right now. I just bought Kill Knight and that game is brutal but a lot of fun. Next on my list of games to eventually buy is Rogue Flight; an awesome game that is very similar to the Afterburner series. I think our wallets will speak to more than anything else. It is great to see people talk about them, but if we actually buy these games that will be the ultimate decider on whether or not this stuff keeps getting made.
I really hope the Konami games do well. If they do, hopefully, there will be a new Castlevania release in the future. I enjoy the re-release titles, but a new, open world Castlevania would be a dream come true. Or even a new, old school style game. Based on it's lore, and rich history, I think the possibilities would be endless.
You guys said it perfectly, we need to praise things that are good 🙂 I just purchased story of seasons a wonder life remake, I really do enjoy seeing remakes of games from my childhood. I’m all in on classic collections and remakes, hopefully companies keep on making them. Top video gents 👍
Retro streamer/gamer here. People just crap on everything, the reality is toxic sells and because of that there is NO demand thus no impressions for positive reviews of anything!
Shame since silent hill 2 remake was better than DS and the RE2-4 remakes. This is coming from someone who’s typically been pretty negative on modern remakes. They kept the spirit of the original game
Not sure I agree. I see RE2 Remake talked about frequently still. One of the best games of the PS4 generation. I suspect SH2 Remake will be a similar story. RE3 Remake wasn’t good and Dead Space was remaking a game that arguably didn’t need a remake, as it’s still not a very old game.
Over here, in the basement building a second game room because I'm out of room for systems and TV's in my main game room. Still have every game and system I've ever owned since I got my Atari for Christmas in 1978. We crammed everything we could into the main game room and still have 11 systems and 14 Rubbermaid totes full of games in storage. I contemplated keeping the house I inherited instead of selling it just to use it as a 3 bedroom gaming location. 😂
I gave up on modern gaming during the PS3 era when all the nonsense started to happen, and now modern gaming is even worse. F these companies. There are more then enough Genesis, PS1, and PS2 games to last my lifetime, and they will always be playable in the future.
I think konami has being really trying and giving retro gamers what they want I really hope we get a silent hill master collection because we really need it them classic games are ridiculously expensive now to obtain
I can only speak for myself, but I’m not interested in anything I can’t easily purchase a physical version of. I’m done with limited releases. I’d rather just buy more Genesis games.
It's because new games don't have arcade machines that you had to insert coins in them. The jump was when these arcade games came to consoles nowadays it's near impossible to recreate this successful formula so everything feels underwhelming.
I have bought over 200 physical games for PS4 and Switch in the last few years, most of which are indie or retro-inspired along with a few mainstream titles. I really enjoy indie retro-inspired stuff much of the time, and say so with my wallet. I'm not a content creator, just a consumer. That said, I do hate most of the remakes/remasters flooding in. I'd be much happier if they'd do compilations instead, and I do purchase them when released (Contra Anniversary, Cowabunga Collection, all of the Castlevania Collections, etc.). I don't need a remake. I want either original new games or classics as close to the original as possible. I do support individual remasters when it's for games never released in North America, like the Romancing Saga 3 remaster. If I could get the original in english I'd prefer it, but if I can play the remaster in english, I can work with that, and at least bought a new copy to support it.
Star Fox 64 is one of my all-time favorite games, and subsequent Star Fox games were not as good IMO. I love Star Fox 64 3D on the 3DS, and I’d love to see an HD remake for the Switch.
I don’t want a remake of games, I have them retro , what I want is for companies to make new original content. All I see the company doing a remake is this is guaranteed $$$. In terms of the new contra game, it seems ok but looks like a 32 bit game on a modern console and I don’t want to spend new for retro type content.
Never played Silent Hill so have no nostalgia but did pick up Operation Galuga digitally and also Shadows of the Damned on PS5 physically. Was going to get Lollipop Chainsaw but opted for Astrobot after renting it on Gamefly since it was so fun. Will eventually be picking up the Soul Reaver 1/2 on Switch whenever that hits then circle back around to Lollipop. What I would like to see is a Dragon Age Origins, II, and Inquisition remaster with all DLC similar to the Mass Effect Legendary Edition trilogy from a few years back. Even if they don't touch Inquisition, just remake Origins and II with Inquisition engine because the graphics still stand up in my opinion.
I think as far as UA-cam and content creation goes, they're not saying anything about these games because most of them don't get them views or anything that would give them money from UA-cam. Basically, I think they forgot where they came from. To me, it seems like that's all MOST creators care about. Maybe I don't make sense here. But for myself, these are the only type of modern games I look for.
PLENTY OF GOOD GAMES in the current generation. But what do you and how many genres of games do YOU like is the question. If you like only 1 or 2 you're screwed.
I agree completely. There is a definite shortage of great stuff coming out but a shortage is not the same as nothing at all. Silent Hill 2 was fantastic all the way and completely alleviated my early concerns. Konami killed it in the best way.
Did these guys forget that Sea of Stars won an award for best Indie game at last years The Game Awards? It was made by Sabotage, the same devs that brought The Messenger.
Bystander effect probably. They assume another channel will praise the good games in a video so they don't bother to make a video. That possibly could be why. I'll be sure to tell Konami with my purchase of MGS3 that I'm happy with it :)
Maby it’s the algorithm or my preference but this is the first time I have heard of these games with the exception of silent hill 2. And I watch quite some gaming content. But when I do see gems I buy them: metroid prime remastered, octopath traveler 2, trails of mana oh and pretty old but the most overlooked masterpiece out there the rare replay collection
I’m turning into one of those guys who’d rather play the originals over remakes with Resident Evil being the exception. Sometimes the original does something that can’t be recreated. Also some of these collections are bad. TMNT has bad input lag, and most of the MM Collections are missing games. The Battle Network collection even sanitized the dialogue for some dumb reason
Retro/modern gamer here. I think with life being too expensive we have to be extra selective with our purchases 😅
100%
Amen.
"Have we gotten to the point where we just like being pissed? "
Yes. We are in the golden age of bitchin
I’m a gamer/collector from 1980-Now I have every console and tons of games what a life of gaming throughout the decades
I just play with my Iron Meat
LOL!!! As you should
I see what you did there......I see what you did🤣
Badaboom tsss
Did you beat it?
can u prove that?
I buy. I don’t know others aren’t. But I’m such a retro gamer, I’m almost ready to say goodbye to the new systems, altogether.
Iron Meat is AWESOME.
Thanks guys!! Just added Iron Meat, Contra Operation Galuga and Prison City to my Must Get list!

Excellent call out to the retro community. Ain’t no one talking about Galuga and it rocks.
Constructive criticism is important but equally so is praise. Great discussion guys!
Retro gamer here who also plays modern games. I played prison city, iron mea, Castlevania DS collection, etc. but those games were just too easy
Honestly I think this is just a case of people who like the games are busy playing the games and those who don't are angrily making content online.

That Marvel vs Capcom collection got lots of hype, well deserved too, it’s awesome.
Still waiting on Xbox here 🤷😞
There's UA-cam channels all the time talking about these remasters and remakes. CV ds collection comes to mind.
Marvel vs Capcom Fighting Collection is the retro collection of the year. Everyone deserves to have a copy in their collection.
I’m here, I’m here! Unfortunately, I’m beginning to believe that I’m part of a dying breed.

I mean, I don’t identify as a “retro gamer”. I’m just, you know, a gamer.
By retro gamer they mean gamers that were around when older IP’s were introduced, or younger gamers that enjoy older games from past eras.
I think the physical scene for most of the titles you mentioned are big. Iron Meat for example sold out so fast. I buy almost all old school style 2D games so I’m loving all of this.

OH i'M HERE BRAH! Just haven't gotten around to those yet.
Everything is so expensive. Can we talk about the price? They could all those games in one collection instead of 2.
Bought Iron Meat physical on PS5 (Switch was unavailable) almost 2 months ago and still waiting for it. Should be shipping any day now.
Too busy having fun playing sweet retro style games to discuss online.
TODAY: Retro Gaming Convention
TOMORROW: I retire, ya bastards!
Hard as hell when you get further in but so good
I'm right here. Retired. Watching UA-cam. 🙂
When a banger releases I never have the spare cash to justify a $70 pricetag hell these days I can barely justify $40
I'm just happy there are good releases out there for the people that can enjoy them!
Haven’t they also green-lit a new Silent Hill entry? I think Konami teased it when they revealed SH2 Remake.
I’m here. Did my videos on some of those games. Never played Silent Hill so I can’t speak to that one.
I think there are more rpg and arcade retro gamers, and they have been positive and vocal lately. Not as many action retro gamers.
Retro realms Halloween and ash evil dead amazing
Oh yes! Just started playing it last week
You guys said it perfectly, we need to praise things that are good 🙂 I just purchased story of seasons a wonder life remake, I really do enjoy seeing remakes of games from my childhood. I’m all in on classic collections and remakes, hopefully companies keep on making them. Top video gents 👍
Recovering from surgery, still retro gaming (easy when you're ordered not to do anything else) 👍😂
Retro streamer/gamer here. People just crap on everything, the reality is toxic sells and because of that there is NO demand thus no impressions for positive reviews of anything!
Unicorn Overlord is amazing and everyone should be talking about it.
Damn right, awesome game. Vanillaware does not miss.
Silent Hill 2 Remake will end up like The Dead Space remake and the RE2/3 remakes… hot for a New York minute and forgotten within a few months time.
REmake2 is the best selling game in the series. Nobody forgot, trust.
I’d rather just buy more Genesis games.
always a new retro collection, retro style of game, rereleases, remasters, and more. i think too much so people have to choose, what they like.
In terms of the new contra game, it seems ok but looks like a 32 bit game on a modern console and I don’t want to spend new for retro type content.
great topic boys
Two words: Crow Country
