Sage advice Ash. Autumn is here, out comes the tweed jacket, Loake Bedales - burnished to a mirror shine. Plus the perfect climate for Aramis, that masuline yet refined fragrance. Leaving a trail of women swooning in its wake! I love Autumn, in many respects the best season for stepping up ones style! I must confess I am envious of your burgundy/ ox blood broagues Sir. That colour is superb!!

Nothing beats a Harris tweed jacket with a pair of khaki chinos or grey flannel trousers during the autumn months.
I like to wear flat caps, berets, or a grey felt Fedora to protect my head, brown leather Dent gloves lined with cashmere to protect my hands, and a pair of full brogue brown Oxfords on my feet.
The fall is the time to bring out wool ties, knitted ties, and silks or silk-and-wool blends that incorporate autumn colours of brown, red, gold, and green.
I'll often wear a light weight wool scarf, or sometimes even a patterned silk one, around my neck, with the material just showing along the lapels of my jacket.
For outerwear, in my opinion, nothing beats a traditional trench coat in khaki, or a waxed trench coat in green with a subtle windowpane pattern in red or yellow for a splash of colour.

Thick wool jumpers are impractical. You can't wash them in the washing machine (apart from maybe a gentle cycle which doesnt wash properly) you can't tumble dry them and you can't ring them out and you have to dry them flat.
I strictly buy 100% cotton knitwear. You can do all the above and it doesn't itch.

My problem with dressing for the English weather is that, generally speaking, the autumn/winter/spring months are wet but not particularly cold. The clothes however, and coats in particular, seem to be made for sub-zero conditions. This means that i rapidly overheat when out for a walk. Breathe-ability would be nice but i haven't found it yet.

They are very stylish, collected and beautiful. The company that makes them keeps their patterns and colors in constant rotation. I happen to know a gentleman who has a collection of more than 30. No two are alike and each one is terrific and rare. To some they have become investment pieces and are quite valuable. Look them up. Cheers.

Pendleton. "Board" aka surfboard, is just a marketing name for a two pocket wool plaid shirt not meant to be tucked in. Popular with West coast surfers. They used to make their clothing in the USA now the fabric is shipped overseas to be made. Plaid is also said to hide a concealed handgun easier, you may note it is popular with Hispanic gang types in East LA. @@TheChapsGuide

Might resole one pair of my Chukkas with Dainite... I'm loathed to do so as I love leather. Also picked up a New Old Stock pair of hand stitched/handmade pigskin Dent's gloves for fairly cheap. Got a few caps, my pride and joy is a lovely Lock & Co dark dark navy flat cap that my middle brother gave me as he had others he prefers.. It looks the dogs dangly bits, even on my ugly mug.

For autumn I usually go with tweed jackets, but this year I have ordered a suit in a brown/khaki corduroy to see how this will complement my autumnal choices.
In the same autumnal vein I'm also expecting a Norfolk jacket in grey tweed to arrive sometime in the next weeks.
(also in the same vein of something not arriving: the pen I sent you happened to try to arrive right when you where on holiday, it's ensured and on it's way back and then will be turned around again...thanks DHL for taking forever...😐)
If it gets a bit more cool in the mornings I will be breaking out the Burberry trench coat again, but it's still much too "late summer" for that here.
I'm less of a "sweater"-bloke, I tend to wear my shirts (also the colder it get's the heavier my shirts, there are some lovely non-Canadian-woodcutter-in-the-Yukon-flannel shirts to wear😉) complemented with sweater vests though I love my roll-neck cashmere sweater.
Shoe wise I'm too suburban/urban in my usual environments to truly change a lot, maybe if it's truly wet and cold I break out my brogue boots but I remain with Derbies (the more robust veering into Blucher territory though, but I built them to be sturdy...) and Oxfords with the occasional Monkstrap.
On top of the classic Dainite and Commando sole (Vibram makes great ones if you have to get new ones on your boots, used them upgrade a crappy cheap boot of my fiancée) also consider boosting your leather soled shoes to winter usability (under urban conditions mind you) by sheathing the leather soles in a hard rubber upper layer and having the heel blocks changed to something from hard rubber - doesn't degrade the elegance substantially but makes your shoes a bit more weather resistant.
Hat wise I'm insanely happy once the summer is done, while I like my various Panamas and other straw hats, event he occasional newsboy cap in linen, my majority of hats are more winter appropriate, I can break out my diverse tweed caps, my collection of Coke hats and Fedoras as well as the occasional Homburg all have spent time waiting in my closets and now are ready for deployment^^.
And I truly love my gloves - most of them a various unlined leather dress gloves, there's a pair of peccary gloves, and yes, I also have some lined ones, but I rarely use them, I spent most of my everyday workdays inside or commuting.
Ah Aramis, I feel it's a bit weak in it's default EDT concentration but I still love it, was my first choice of a winter fragrance back when I started my journey to Chap Nirvana (didn't know it then though 😆), today it has been supplemented by too many to list but most of them in EDP concentration with some outliers like the extremely powerful Quorum or the classic Drakkar Noir in EDT.
In short: I absolutely love the colder season!
    Best regards
    Raoul G. Kunz

Do they use rock salt in the UK? We use it here on sidewalks but they have gone more with salt brine for the roads. Rock salt can be a real killer on footware once the first snow falls, be sure to clean it off and not let it sit as it will suck all moisture out of your boots in no time.

What do you do about places that are scent free?

Scent free? That is not something that I am conscious of.

It's an North American thing, We have Scent Free signs on our offices, does not apply to the warehouse. One person I know is militant scent free and a bit of a kill joy about it. @@TheChapsGuide

Is there a particular brand or manufacturer of flat caps that you would recommend?

I do not favour any particular brand - other than Kangol for the more stylish models.

Can someone help me, I need to choose between 92% wool vs cashmere and wool blend sport jackets? I am planing to wear them daily.

Wool will be more robust over longer periods, but cashmere is more refined. For a daily, I would go for wool.

@TheChapsGuide Thank you for the prompt advice. Cashmere is relatively cheaper in my region. But i will opt for the wool for better durability. A fan of your content from far away Mongolia.
