I have done this workout so many times and every time you say "You're in the right place, you made the right choice," I practically yell THANKS SHANE! Such perfectly timed encouragement. Thank you for these!
Was rowing for several months with the idea "I'm in shape, I don't need to do much warm up and cool down stuff" and then my knee started hurting and it took 3 or 4 months to get back to normal. Now I'm starting over and just following along. No use for an ego in this stuff. Thanks for another great video.
New rower here at the age of 52 years young and am loving it! As of today I've done 5 days straight. Thank you Shane for your excellent coaching and for incorporating stretching. I have joint issues and a low back injury from my youth that started bothering me a decade ago. This has been so easy on my back and joints with no pain. Rowing is a keeper and the best decision made. My chiropractor agrees!
Thanks for incorporating the warm up and cool down as part of a complete workout! It always helps to have someone walk you through each step. Also...this is the first time anyone has successfully communicated the benefit of a cool down to me (yikes). Most appreciated!
Rowing has become not only my all time favorite workout nowadays, but it’s helping me to feel stronger both physically and mentally. Realizing that my form is getting better and better with all of your videos. Thank you for your continuously educating and supporting your dark horse family along our own journeys! 🐴💪🏻
Awesome thanks perfect for me just got my new concept 2 last week. Rowing definitely tough but know it’s going help my journey was 430 6’ 2 56 yo now 335 was always in shape but let my fall, off wagon. But excited to add concept 2 with my walk/jog routine. Was a lot easier to row before with out belly but all good it’s going down lol
I got away from rowing, ended up with a knee injury and an ill-advised surgery. It has been a nightmare. But last night when we were moving all my equipment to a new workout room we had finished, we set the rower up and I thought, “Dang, I miss rowing.” This morning, back to it and I’m wondering if this might be the answer to my knee struggles. Then, “You’re in the right place. You made the right choice” and I knew, I KNOW I’m on the right track!! Thanks, Shane!!!
That slow recovery on a sculling boat is so good for working on balancing the boat, especially at the catch position. It's such an integral part of rowing practice.
Thanks for this! I’ve been stringing together a coupe of the beginner workouts, then adding your cool down. This is nice to have it all together when I want to make it simpler. Been following your workouts for almost 2 months. Love them. Thanks!!
I'm so grateful that someone directed me to your workouts! They are very doable and I appreciate your detailed instructions. They are amazing and you are a very pleasant kind of guy. Thank you! I"m in my very late 60's and loving these workouts and hoping for great results! :-)
Day 2 of this workout and I already feel my body moving through the various movements correctly. 👌💃 looking forward to a few more weeks of this workout before moving on. Thank you!🙆🏼♀️💥💛 The slow strokes were brutal yet brilliant!💥👌
Thank you for getting me started on my water rowing workouts! Your teaching is very easy to follow and glad you can carry on a conversation throughout. Bring on more new workouts!!!
I had a pacemaker fitted 5wks ago following a year of heart problems and a heart attack - I find this the perfect routine for getting back into training - thank you Shane
Thank you Darkhorse! I made it through with your encouragement. Your timing is perfect, your reminders to check my form, breathe, slow down and cool down. . Perfect. I look forward to my next rowing session! (I’m use a Schwann, but my goal is to upgrade when I move up to intermediate.)
I’ve been out of it for about 7 years now. Got my Concept 2 rower in today and hit this workout. Going to get my 500 time in the morning before work, and my 2000 time after work. Also planning on hitting this one 3x a week. I’m at 323lbs and aiming for 240. Thanks for these videos!!
This is my first week with a rowing machine and your explanations are EXCELLENT! THANK YOU! I also sneeze loudly out of the blue, so I laughed out loud at this analogy!
OMG thank you for this!! I didn’t think I needed it but it seemed fun and I only had a short time for a workout so I tried it out. The continual focus and course correction on my form (which was absolutely terrible until I found your videos this week!) helped me shave 45 seconds off my pace even though I was going so much slower than usual, and it was really enjoyable plus I was less sore 🙌🏼. If I had more time, I would have loved to just keep on going!
This is excellent, excellent, a tough tad for beginners... managed 2530 after the 10 min main workout, although I wanted to do 5k afterwards so the stretching was perhaps better for later.... thanks, it really improved my efficiency with the 24spm, back to 1:44 or thereabouts...
Awesome beginner workout just got rower last week. Followed u today pull by pull really helps focus on form. Plus I got nice little sweat going like I said previously this is my second concept 2 had one 20 years ago man forgot how great 👍 they are thanks again hopefully I can jump up soon to your intermediate workouts.
Just got my concept 2 a week ago! I use this workout with your two other learning to row pick drills. Form and stamina first. Later comes the real challenge when I graduate up to intermediate. Once I match you stroke by stroke then I will see feel I am ready to move on to more challenges. Thanks so much.
How does a guy with a gut perform proper technique? I can't keep my knees together on the contracting part, my legs have to bow open so I can have a full cycle to pull through. Should I just keep doing that?
I love your videos, informative and inspirational. I've went from a pack a day smoker to quitting smoking and having more energy and feeling better at 40+ than I did in my 20's. I've been working out with a rower three days a week for the last two month and doing a variety of your 20 minute workouts. However, I getting discouraged because I haven't lost any weight, by split times aren't improving and inches off my waist aren't improving. I was working out 4 days a week but I was getting weaker each week so I cut back to give my body more time to recover. Any suggestions on what to change because I do love rowing and love how I feel after a workout.
Hey DH thank you so much for the awesome workout routines, just got my rower a week ago,by using ur expertise and info pushing to be the best in shape rower I can be . I wanted to see how i stacked up against u physically can u tell me what’s ur height & weight ?
Your workouts are great! Your banter is fabulous. The problem is, if you do the same workout over & over, which is a good thing to do, it’s a bit of a pain listening to the same spontaneous banter over & over again. Would you be able to copy & edit the workouts, so there is a quiet version that just says what you have to do & when. Minimal words & no music? I would love this…
Doubtful I’ll get an answer but I have a new iFIT Nordic Track Rower. I’m 69 years old and don’t know as a beginner what my resistance should be. I don’t want to get discouraged and I’m not looking to gain huge body changes…I’m 110 lbs. looking more for a gentle strength challenge w/aerobic benefits. Ive had three shoulder surgeries on the same shoulder but actually feel like rowing is helping it strengthen. Any input? Thx. Love your workouts.
Thanks for the great video, ive been doing a few of your beginner videos for almost a month now and its been a great learning experience. While doing the workouts I've noticed I have an imbalance with how my shoulders move on the pull back (one goes back farther than the other). Any suggestions on how I can fix that with either mobility training or exercises would be appreciated.
This user here is in needed help. I got a nasty knee injury and I'm not allowed to run but I have the alternative to row. So here comes my in need help: got 5000m to complete in 25mins. What techniques, strokes I could use to complete this quest? A good app to record the workouts?
Hey. Just took delivery of a C2D rower. Have had rowing as a foundation of my fitness regimen for 35 years. But I have only done 5,000 and 10,000 workouts. (I should say that the rest of my regimen is a mix of HIIT resistance workouts, running very long stairs, mobility complexes and about six hours of yoga a week.) I'm going to give some of your workouts a go, including this one. But here's my question (and apologies for maybe bending commenting protocols): As I have other things going on in my regimen, I've shoe-horned C2 workouts into my system for every four days. Which is really turning things upside down, but I wanted to do something entirely different, to shake things up in this age of COVID-19. So, what do you think about me putting the HIIT stuff aside for a month and rowing M-F? I should mention that I'm 60, so recovery is almost paramount in my concerns. Thoughts?
Hi been doing this video for 2 weeks now and loving it. However have/ had lower back bulging discs. Rowing technique going great ( no pain) but the stretching at the end hurting me. Are there any other stretches you would recommend. ( I do basic stretches before workout plus the warm up and try the cool down ). Thank you. 😁
Question...recently added a concept 2 rower to the mix. Old guy trying to add cardio. Finished this video. Good workout. My lower left ribcage is in some pain though after a couple rowing rounds. Problem to be concerned with or normal? Not debilitating pain but annoying for sure.
Thank you so much for an easy to understand workout. You explain everything very clearly and why we do what we do. Look forward to staying with this workout for at least a month then move on. To the next level Just wondering though what level do you set the flywheel to. I always have mine at 1 for now
I've seen a number of videos mention setting the damper to the 3-5 range to begin with then adjusting as intensity or endurance increase. Should be enough resistance to "grab" the handle at the catch but still low enough you don't mess up the mechanics of the whole stroke by fighting it all the way until the release.
What resistance are you running during this workout? I’m on 8 and I seem to be off by about 1 or two points per speed. But the lower resistances are too easy for me.
The sneeze analogy got me! Laughed aloud. My husband does the same. I switch into fight or flight but what I really want to do is slap him! Never a warning, just a jarring scream of a sneeze!
im new here so i dont know if the he ever acknowledges the comments here and replies to viewers questions. my question is, if you absolutely want to have ads in your videos could they at least be at the beginning or end so the workout isnt interrupted so much for us with regular yt? every ad is over a minute long and they cant be skipped. it messes up with the rhythm and concentration to say the least. please? im grateful if you reply
Beginner? Intermediate? Advanced? I choose a workout based on my time, energy level and current goal. As my Tai Chi instructor always says: "Never skip a chance to work on the basics. Fancy stuff looks cool, but the basics will save your life!"
I have done this workout so many times and every time you say "You're in the right place, you made the right choice," I practically yell THANKS SHANE! Such perfectly timed encouragement. Thank you for these!
Meanwhile, I've memorized the "sneeze" anecdote.

This is the guy who ‘taught’ me how to row by watching his videos. Workouts are amazing, thanks coach.
I think the sneezing analogy is what's going to help me come back to this 3 times a week 😂
😂

Still one of my favorite lessons ❤

Hey man, just joined the channel and I'm on my second workout for the week, hopefully see you in the intermediate class real soon.
How's progress going, you on to intermediate? I'm 2 weeks into this beginner one
Love it! Especially loved the sneeze analogy. As a loud scary sneezer myself, I can relate. 💥
Amazing video and I love your personality on camera.

Loved this workout this morning! This one and the intervals are my favorite
Just got my new rowing machine for Xmas and I love your videos! Low impact but effective I’m a beginner and I feel the sweat 😍
Done this three times now and really starting to see a difference in my mechanics - thanks!
1st time rowing since September ... Thanks Shane! You’re the best!!!

Awesome. Ended up here rather than the “didn’t see it coming” rowvember workout which just looked too terrifying!
Would love to see more videos with the warmup and cooldown built in
Thanks. My first ever rowing workout went great!
How does a guy with a gut perform proper technique? I can't keep my knees together on the contracting part, my legs have to bow open so I can have a full cycle to pull through. Should I just keep doing that?

daniel watts, you need to vary your rowing, endurance and hit sessions using body weight exercises, also monitor your food intake
Thanks!

Thank you so much for your instruction! Keep up the good work, I appreciate it very much.
Big fan of Dark Horse Rowing!!!

Have you made videos about the more meta decisions of rowing? Ex: when to work out, relative to when you eat. Weekly schedules, etc.
Thanks for the great video, ive been doing a few of your beginner videos for almost a month now and its been a great learning experience.

Or hit "Just Row" and go as long as you want. I did 30 minutes this morning. 4,250 meters. Not bad for first time.

I reached 724 meters in 3 minutes at the gym. Getting better!
Do you have a video about just the mechanics of breathing? It not, would love one. When to breathe in, when to breathe out. Thanks!
Burned 152 calories. Thank you!
Thanks a lot 🥰🥰
What resistance are you running during this workout? I’m on 8 and I seem to be off by about 1 or two points per speed. But the lower resistances are too easy for me.
This is great. How many watts should I be targeting at 16 strokes, 24?
Just did first one. 65 yrs young.
What is the Stoke rate during the cool down
🔥🔥
The sneeze analogy got me! Laughed aloud. My husband does the same. I switch into fight or flight but what I really want to do is slap him! Never a warning, just a jarring scream of a sneeze!
Can anyone recommend an app for the monitor on concept 2 please?
How much calories you calculate you can burn with this workout?
how often per week should you do a rowing workout if you are just starting out?
Try every other day to begin with, I pretty much row every day now, the odd day or 2 off, it helps I have my own rower at home though.
