Grant, you should do a series where you scout a course thoroughly, play at least one practice round, then 18 at that course to try and give yourself an idea on your score with the same prep the pros get. Maybe a trusted caddy like Wes

I was thinking the same. Most scratch golfers would be mind blown if they saw what they are capable of with a good caddy and proper preparation.
The problem for UA-cam golf is that the creators feel like they have to always go for the big shots to entertain people.

I think the main issue with playing on something like the PGA Tour is pressure and mentality. It's super high-pressure environment with, at times, your career on the line. Every pro golfer is insanely good, but it's being able to play your best under those conditions that separate them.

A pro once told me if I could break 40 playing “worst ball”, I’d know I was good. You’d have to make any putt twice, too. It could make for a cool video. Keep up the good work.👍🏻👍🏻

Yes. I think Grant could do pretty well with his shots off the tee on Par 4s and Par 5s, but the pros are going to get their approach shots closer on average, they're going to get their shots around the green closer on average, they're going to get their long distance putts closer on average, and they're going to make a far higher percentage of their putts that are around 5-8 ft.

Grant, your game is poetry in motion - but something that I think most amateurs don't take into account, that makes PGA events so very difficult? Course setup. Super-narrow fairways, super-long-and-think rough, and super-firm-and-fast greens make the challenge that much harder. Those guys are other-worldly! Cheers, mate 🙏🏻
P.S. I think you could absolutely make some cuts out there!

The friends I know who have given pro golf a real shot are all in the +4 and better range and say that in order to have even a remote chance, you need to be shooting in the 60s for most of your rounds at your home course. And even then it seems impossibly hard. The best amateur I know played on his country's national team as a college golfer and the closest he ever got to making a pro event was falling one stroke short of qualifying for the US open a few years ago. Such a high level. Grant is no doubt a fantastic golfer but I imagine the threshold is much higher.

I've become pretty familiar with your game after watching you for couple years now and the biggest holes I noticed is 1. Hammered putts here and there although your comebackers are top tier and 2. Trying to manufacture a shot when you can just play your natural shot shape to a decent spot instead of going for the ideal play.

I rarely comment, but feel you need to think of this round as proof you should try Q-School WITH a caddie. Your best use of mulligans were because you played the wrong yardage. Caddies would absolutely help with that. Your free feeling aggressive play is just confidence. Even on putting, you have a partner to help read. While it might not be as good as seeing the putt twice, it is still reassuring you have the right line. I hope you try next year. I’m chasing the senior dream.

Grant doing his best George B impersonating with the positive vibes and I like it. Swing is good enough to play on tour. Tighten up wedges a bit and fix putter a tad. That putter looks a little short putting with a claw grip. Also get a little stronger but don’t overdo it.

Love the content Grant, but as others have stated as well - if you put a mulligan in play then you play that ball. You can't just blast the putt past the whole and revert back to the first because it was closer. And I think most people like you for being genuine, so calm down with the clickbaits 😆

How about a mulligan on every green. Effectively making every hole a higher par. 3into a 4, 4 into a 5, etc. The putts is where you make your score.

Playing worst ball will drastically improve your game and commitment to every shot. A scramble with yourself and pick the worst of the 2 balls (excluding putts), [unless you want to]. It will give you a chance to think on the fly and hit a better second shot or give you pressure to pull off a hard shot twice. Be kind to yourself. Don't compare, don't expect too fast. and don't worry - tomo fujita

This is a great vid because it shows why great golfers are not PGA tour golfers. Its the little things- 125 yards and in, and putting. I played with a +5 guy once and he told me that 100 yards and in if he doesn't get the ball within 6 feet of the cup that's a failure. This dude was legit. He outscored Fred Couples on his home course and years later Jordan Speith.
I also spoke to Jerry Chang once (TW's college golf teammate) after he shot a 68. He said a big difference between him and a pro was the pros can take it low - like 62-65 regularly. And on the days where they don't have it they still can hang a 71. He said he could never go that low when he was on.
Grant -way to put yourself out there.

My man Grant… I think you should have taken that Mulli oomph the 1st tee and used it on the chip shot! I can’t remember if it was Jack or Arnie but after a round after missing a lot of putts they were asked what do they need to do to fix their putting… the answer… “hit it closer”… on that chip shot… you could have hit that closer after seeing your first one and made an easy bird… more so on Par 5’s then anything of course

I think having a caddy and being VERY familiar with the greens would get you a few strokes less. The way to really test your skills would be spend a week at one of the PGA event courses with a local caddy who knows the greens and helps with putting lines. Then see if you can finish 2-4 under on 18 holes after a few rounds. You will also have to factor in pressure. That will tense you up and suddenly what you normally feel isn't there. Need to chip 10 yards? Sorry, your hands will feel like concrete and you will have a hard time getting your brain and body to recall that feeling. That can be worked through with time and experience, but know that is a large part of the equation. I would guess the equation is Skill + extreme familiarity with the specific course + a good caddie for you + handling high pressure + time practicing almost constantly.

Grant, strictly speaking I think you should always complete the hole with the mulligan ball after you've used it. Also, what would be great would be to see you you fare with a tour level caddie. It would be interesting if he or she would save you as many shots :)

Love you swing. Love your attitude. All well suited for a tour of some kind. I’d say you would be middle of the pack on the Korn Ferry. You can go low but you do not usually put 4 low rounds together. Great golfers are incredible pitch and chippers. That’s what separate the pros. They do not make double bogeys and keep bogeys to none or one per round.

I'm not a lover of mulligans. My playing partners know I hate them , I'm an 18 hc and they are a lot better so when I've struggled to match them and get in touch with maybe 2 to play and they hit a bad shot it hurts when they claim a mulligan to stay in front ,.. I feel cheated. I never use them 😢

Play the reverse scramble, you always play two shots and take the worse. You even have to make two putts to finish the hole. When I was playing my best I broke 40 in 9 holes while playing this, and was super hyped!
