  • My Frigidaire side by side refrigerator was not cooling. Mod: LFSS2612TF4 The freezer was working fine but the fridge was up to 50 deg. I realized the wire wasn’t blowing in the fridge from the freezer. I found the fridge air damper was stuck clicking and not moving. I’ll show you how I replaced the part and give you a couple tips. The part number of the new damper is 242303001. Unplug your refrigerator before repairing. You should not repair any appliance while plugged in

My fridge looks exactly like yours. Mine was freezing the food in the fridge side. Following your guidance I was able to take the control panel out. Found that the damper had become detached from the control lever. I was able to reattach it and the fridge is cool, not freezing. Thank you for the help.

Note to self: If your damper motor is malfunctioning and has the door stuck CLOSED but all else is good with your refrigerator, a simple way to keep the food in the fridge compartment from spoiling or going bad much sooner is to just loosen the three screws that hold the damper and it's styrofoam securely in place. That way, it lets air from the freezer compartment through to the fridge compartment through unusual means but it's a good hack that works. Another key takeaway is if when you replace your damper motor, and it comes in two styrofoam halves, if they're not glued together, then just tape them together for easier placement behind the casing.

Mine makes a clattering noise when I open the fridge door but will stop if I press the door switch , can’t seem to get it to cool down under 40 degrees, I have already replaced the fan motor and defrost control board, I think the damper linkage may have a loose connection at linkage

Yeah, I'm about to ram plastic spoons up my old style Kenmores... Too much playing, I'll prop it open, lol. It has the actual knobs.

I just did this replacement, thanks for the video btw, but the damper stays wide open no matter the setting. Ever experience this, bad motor?

@CutaiaHVAC it's working fine now, I found out it stays open until the temps drop to a certain level. Thanks for the reply.

Ice formed on the lever after power outage. I guess condensation formed and when the power returned after 2 days it froze in place, jamming the door shut

Repairman wants to charge $500 for 30 minutes of work to replace this part. I'm totally doing this myself.
